I love. LOVE. the wit and humor and snark that Chantal blesses her characters with. Not just the men either. She is sharing that far and wide in her books and I think that is what manages to make a fairly serious topic (i.e. meeting your biological father who you didn't know about for 21 year and basically accepting that you life has been a partial lie and trying to make a new extended second family within a MC or possibly the life altering situation a young woman finds herself in) and make it more light hearted.
Since I let the cat out of the bag above (sorta... kinda... Maybe not really) we obviously have a situation where Erin is walking in blind. She was raised the proverbial "good girl" but it never really fit her right, she always feels little out of place with her opinions and wit and stubbornness. She's gone to church every Sunday. She lived in a quaint and quiet small town. Both her parents are teachers... then BOOM, nothing is quiet as it seems and her ever present standing as the family Black Sheep starts to make more sense once she meets dear ol' dad.
With a father who is an MC president, she has a entirely new set of rules to learn and along the way she'll gain a new family that fits like a favorite sweater but it won't be without dangers, they are after all a MC.
With the possibility of being in danger Erin starts to wonder who has it out for her?
Sweet and sexy. With snark and sarcasm in practically every page Chantal delivers exactly what she's known for. A fun epicly entertaining read and the beginning of what will prove to be a new series. I'm very excited to see where she takes thing since we had a small cameo from the Wind Dragons own MC Princess Clover!
I received a copy of Ace of Hearts from the publisher, Pocket Star, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. As always, the following review contains my opinions and mine alone.
One of my guilty reading pleasures is definitely a quality biker romance. But I have to search high and low for the good stuff, not the abusive, cheating, drug addict biker erotica posing as romances but the bad boy with the teeny bit of good buried deep down under all the gruff and foul language. It’s even better if the female lead isn’t a simpering idiot or a classic definition of Daddy Issues. I managed to stumble across the Ace of Hearts digital review copy on NetGalley and thought I’d see if maybe it checked off all my biker romance checklist items. For the most part, it did.
The Leading Lady isn’t a DiD. If you’re looking for a damsel-in-distress romance, this is not the book for you. Erin is sassy, she doesn’t hide from her problems, she faces them head on. Erin is also pretty smart, she’s headed off to college in a short while to become a nurse and she’s determined not to let anything mess with her education. You go, girl! Erin’s also got it down that she needs to deal with things like an adult and compromise with others.
Our Main Man is quality material. He understands boundaries and, when given several different opportunities to have sex with other women, he doesn’t. Even before he’s actually in any sort of relationship with Erin, he’s quick to say “no, thanks” to any interested parties. While he’s torn between loyalty to his MC President and his interest in the newly found MC Princess, he tries to walk that fine line between respecting his Prez and loving his woman. When Ace messes up, he fesses up to his mistakes. There is one instance where I want to reach into the book and bop him on the back of the head Gibbs-Style.
Ace decided to practise unsafe sex without talking to Erin first. Dude. No. That’s never okay. The only good sex is the consensual sort – and that includes checking that your partner is on board with ditching the condom.
Ace of Hearts has a bit of mystery to it, some of it is glaringly obvious and other parts are a heartwrenching surprise. I’m not posting any spoilers, I’m not one of those people, but when Erin is poisoned at her Welcome to the Family party, I had it figured out lickety-split and couldn’t fathom why nobody in the story could figure it out. Also, dang, Erin. Follow Party Rule #1 – unopened beverages only! (Rule #2 is an addendum, if your drink is left unattended or out of your eyeline for a second, GET A NEW ONE!).
Erin’s reunion with her father is pretty much what every daughter with daddy issues dreams of. I’m not envious over it, really. I lied. I’m totally envious, I look great in green. But that’s supposed to get fixed in therapy eventually so moving on. As someone who struggles on the daily to balance a dad, a mum, and a stepmum, I know where Erin’s coming from in her tortured confusion of how to not end up hurting any of the parentals and still have all 3 in my life. I suck at it but, again, I have daddy issues. But Erin just puts it out there that this is how it’s going to be and everybody needs to deal with it. Of course, Erin has parentals that tolerate each other, so I AM JEALOUS.
I loved meeting the different members of the Cursed Ravens MC. They’re so eclectic, from Mac the lovable hippie (who doesn’t love hippies?) to the crude Shack (I hope he turns out not to be as douche-y as he seems in AoH), to Rogue the Rock God and Knuckles the best friend a girl could ever have. Seriously, where can I find a Knuckles – I need a best friend!
I spent a couple of hours reading Ace of Hearts and I read it in one sitting. It’s definitely a book I’ll keep around for bookslump reading. It’s easy to read and doesn’t make me think. That’s not a bad thing. I tend to overload from never stopping with the thinking. Ace of Hearts let me read but I didn’t need a glossary or an appendix or a map or a character sheet like a lot of books today. It just let me read.
I was left wondering a few things and I’m hoping Book 2 clears those up but I really wish they’d all been cleared up before I finished Ace of Hearts. Mostly, Who the glarb is Clover?! It’s been bugging me since I read Ace of Hearts four days ago! I need closure here!
My favourite part would have to be when Erin broke a certain person's nose and settled the person's issue with her finally. It surprised everybody that she did it because Erin's not a violent sort but she got herself out of the situation without relying on anybody else to help her out of it.
Overall, I’m giving Ace of Hearts a 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked reading it, I look forward to Book 2, but some things were left hanging in the wind and other things (no spoilers) left me confused. As for the heat rating, let’s go with a 4. Things get spicy and descriptive. They’re easily skipped though so it doesn’t detract from the story if you flip a page or two past the naughty.
This was a hot biker book! Erin is determined to meet her biological father. The fact that her mother never told him her 'dad' wasn't really her 'dad' and that she had a father out there somewhere ticked her off. Hence the craziness of walking into a clubhouse unannounced and demanding to see none other than there prez! I laughed a bit at that part because it took guts.
There was a lot in this. The diving into the MC scene was an eye-opening experience for Erin and it was really fun to watch. The forbidden romance was hot. I really was sad at the end and being right about the bad guy. I wanted it to be someone else.
It was a 4/5 for me. I will read more about the Ravens!
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
This was an excellent read. Strongly written, great supporting characters and a thorough storyline. There were no gaps in the story, no fluff and was really engaging. Does not overly exaggerate the characters, storylines and MC as often a MC read can take on so I found there were no frustrations. Although written completely in the point of view of Erin, the heroine, the descriptions and interactions with the other characters, show in detail their thoughts and views, even though we don’t see it directly. Fabulous read – definite recommend - so great I had to look if there were others coming out and to my luck looks like there will be at least 2 more to follow. Can’t wait!
Erin has had her world shattered when she finds a second birth certificate and the father is Gage and not Brock. When she confronts her mother, the truth comes out. A visit to the Cursed Ravens MC will change Erin's life in more ways than one as she gets to know her MC family and take her place as the
"Princess" of the Cursed Ravens. I voluntarily agreed to review this book from Netgalley.
First we should say that we LOVE MC books and if you are looking for a good one, Chantal Fernando is usually the place to start! She writes a great motorcycle club series, like no other!
This story was filled with mystery, romance, and suspense and it kept us hooked until the end. Not to mention all of the side characters were so fun and likable. We will definitely be looking out for the other books in the series, because we quickly fell in love with not only Erin and Ace, but all the guys in the MC
4.5 Stars
I was so excited when I saw that Chantal was writing a new MC series. I have loved all her bikers in the past and couldn't wait to see what she could do with a whole new cast of characters. She did not disappoint. I loved the storyline right off the bat and how the characters handled it was so real I forgot I was reading a fiction book.
The entire cast of characters in this book were amazing. You loved them and hated them as soon as their stories were told. The men were rough and tough as nails but, weren't afraid to show their soft spots when the situation called for it. Erin was sweet and naive in ways but, also smart and tough. She entered into a whole new world for her and withstood what it threw her way.
All around and exciting start to a series that I can't wait to get more of.
Intrguing, intense, perfect no one write hot alpha bikers like Chantal , she sucks you into this world of sexy protective bikers that are loyal and will do anything to protect thier women and brothers this book was everything the writting was flawless I cannot wait for more of this series!!
The princess has arrived. This is the start of another great MC series by an author who knows how to incorporate humor, suspense, and lust into a book that you can’t put down. Erin is a person with a great sense of humor which will give you laugh out loud moments. Ace is a man that all the women want.
Erin bravely walks into the Cursed Ravens MC clubhouse and stuns them all by giving them their Prez’s full legal name and tells them that she needs to see him. All of a sudden the flirtatious air of the men surrounding her turns into something full of animosity and suspicions. She has come to introduce herself to a father that never knew she existed. It shocked her as well to know that the man who raised her was not her biological father and her birth father was a president of the Cursed Ravens MC.
I am excited for this new series because we are given characters that will touch your heart just like Ace, Erin and Gage have done in this book. Be ready for suspense and chemistry that we can only hope for.
I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.
Complicated, steamy and exciting. Girl fiends out daddy isn't really her father and heads out to meet bio dad. She's in for a shock because the life he leads is completely different than the one shes lived. It's sexy and entertaining and well written. I really enjoyed. I'm curious about the roommates story. Hoping shes next :)
WOW! Chantal is back and I am loving it! A new motorcycle crew that's oh so sexy and of course hilarious! I can't wait to read more- oh and don't be surprised by a few cameos- CLOVER! YEAH!
I received an ARC from Netgalley. First off, Chantal Fernando is one of my favorite authors. Especially her motorcycle series so I was super excited when she decided to another series after the Wind Dragons. The Cursed Ravens are a breath of yummy fresh air. Storyline is great and the cast of characters is superb. I look forward to the next in the series.
I love ALL of Ms Fernandos works (with the exception of that one errant blowjob in the WDMC, ahem, which we shall never mention again) and holy hell, the woman writes a mean MC story. After falling head over heels for her last series, I expected pure perfection with the Ravens and to a certain point she did not disappoint. Let me explain. Hot guys, warm fuzzy friendships, a quirky heroine, a wicked hot guy, danger, drama, dialogue.... all there in spades. But for me, I didn't *feel* the connection I was hoping between Erin and Ace. They didn't make me fall for them, falling for each other (does that make sense?). It was hot, yes, and clearly written that they had deep-and-meaningfuls for each other, but I didn't *feel* it. Maybe Faye and Sin spoiled me, I dunno. And speaking of Sin and Faye, we find Clover now all grown up as a college student?? and having a parent/kid space spat, which made me feel OOOOOOLD and kind of time-warpy.
I digress.
It was solidly written, with enough amazing minor characters to each get their own story (yay!) - so I'm going to chalk this up to chemistry between me and Ms Fernando on this one and sit on the edge of my seat til the next story comes out, with hearts in my eyes and room in my heart to love the next couple.
Thanks!
I received an arc from Netgalley. Ace and Erin’s story starts off with an order to stay apart. Love finds a way in this romance but someone doesn’t want that love to grow or the new found father relationship to begin for Erin.
Lots of twists and turns through this story but through it all you will be glued to the book.
Great read.
A great start to a new series by this wonderful author. This book had me from page one and I could not put it down until I hit the last page. Other work suffered so I could finish this book. Erin was hilarious! She had me laughing often. She reminded me of Faye from the Wind Dragons. She could be her daughter or her sister with all of that sass. Ace is an Alpha male, who is in a tailspin because he has never met a woman like her before. I fell in love with these characters. I know I am going to love all these characters in this world as much as I did the Wind Dragons. I cannot wait for the future stories. There are a lot of HEAs I want to see coming. This was a great read! I highly recommend it. If you loved Chantal’s Wind Dragon series, or even MC romance, then I think you will enjoy this book.
ARC given by publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Ace of Hearts is Chantal Fernando's first installment of her new series, The Cursed Ravens. The story brings her fans back to the MC world with this new club and follows Erin Dawson, the unknown princess of the MC.
I really liked Erin's character and thought that she was portrayed very realistically. She had a back bone and didn't back down from a fight, which I loved, but we still got to see those moments where she was unsure and hesitant to make waves while at the MC. I really liked that she was tough yet not in a unapproachable way.
Ace definitely took a backseat in this book but I still liked what we were able to learn about him. Even though he didn't get as much page time as Erin did I still felt like I knew him pretty well so I didn't mind that we didn't get a full backstory on him. He wasn't your typical biker manwhore and we actually got to see a lot of sweet times with him that made me love him. I liked the sexual tension he brought to the story when he was fighting the attraction to Erin and thought it added an extra dose of intrigue.
I love Ms. Fernando's MC books and this one is no different. I can't wait to see more from this MC and I'm already dying for a few characters to find their HEA. And as just a little tease to anyone that's a fan of the Wind Dragon MC series there was a character from it that popped up in this book that I think everyone will love.
Actual Rating 3.5 Stars
"People spend their whole lives looking to connect with someone. To feel that pull, that tether, and to be understood. To be loved. He might be a big tough biker, but he can't pretend that he's different from the rest of us."
When I first heard about Ace of Hearts, I was over the moon. I was ridiculously excited. I'm a huge fan of Chantal Fernando's Wind Dragon MC Series, so I couldn't wait to dive into this one. Ace of Hearts hits the ground running and had me totally captivated. My first impressions of Erin was she was one badass, ballsy chick. She had no fear when it came to confronting the father she never knew about. Suddenly Erin finds herself immersed in a world that she never knew existed and has the caught the eye of Ace. Ace is rugged, sexy and everything Erin should stay away from. But, the pull between these two is instant and wild horses couldn't keep these two away from one another. Will Ace and Erin pursue their connection despite her father's warnings? Will Erin be tough enough to handle the biker world?? There's only one way to find out...
Overall, I thought this book was an ok read. It's kind of hard for me to review because there were so many wonderful parts that I just loved and wanted more of. And then there were parts that were just rough. Let's start with the good: I loved the characters. They were everything I wanted and then some. They were bikers with a heart of gold. You could tell they were badass when they needed to be, but also had really big hearts. I loved Ace. He was real with Erin and didn't play games. He was sexy and swoon worthy; the total package. And Erin, I really loved her fearlessness. She had balls and was tough. I could definitely see her fitting in well with the MC world. Together, I thought Ace and Erin made a good match. Their chemistry was instant and smokin hot. The tension between the two of them was definitely palpable and made you want to see more of their story.
What didn't work: At times the story felt a little rough, like it needed to be developed a little more. I felt like the the intensity of the MC world was dumbed down at times for Erin and I would have liked to see it be a little more real. There were definitely some moments that felt a little cheesy to me. Also, I wish there had been a little more consistency with Erin. For most of the story, she is portrayed as this strong, badass daughter of the MC president. However, there were moments where she appeared bratty, weak even. I wanted to roll my eyes at some of her behavior.
So, while this book isn't a 100% slam dunk for me, I do think that this series has a lot of potential. For me, there were some elements that worked and others that didn't. And while I didn't love it, I still had a good time reading this book. Like I said there is a ton of potential here and in the end, the characters won me over and had me wanting to know more. I'm curious to see where this series will go next and would be open to reading more from it in the future.
4.5 Stars!!!
When I found out Chantal Fernando was starting a new MC series, I think I literally did a happy dance! I am a huge fan of The Wind Dragon MC series, so I had high hopes for The Cursed Ravens MC and I am so happy to say I LOVED Ace of Hearts! I absolutely loved premise and thought Chantal did a fantastic job with introducing a whole new crew of characters. Not only is Ace of Hearts a really addictive romance novel, but it’s also filled with nail biting suspense! I flew through the book in just one day because it was that good! I am really hoping Chantal Fernando makes this a long running series with many, many installments! If you’re looking for a romance novel that is both consuming and entertaining than check out this 4.5 star gem!
Erin discovers that her father isn't her biological father so she decides to locate her "real" father. It's quite a shock when she finds out her dad is the president of the Cursed Ravens MC. The MC world isn't like anything Erin has seen before and finding her place in it is harrowing. Ace, a member of the club, helps her and as their romance progresses Erin comes into her own. Great MC romance!
I loved this book! When Erin finds out her biological dad is not who raised her she is mad. She's always had a rebellious streak and she's determined to find the man who fathered her, even against her mother's wishes. What she doesn't know is his she will be received, but when has that ever stopped her?
Will she find her father and him accept her or send her packing?
