A great read about a new canine unit officer, Kit, who comes to a small town that’s been devastated just recently and the hits just keep coming to the small town making it hard for her new partner and fellow officers to trust her. Wes is a recluse who hides in his “tower” watching over the natural habitat around him, spotting fires and calling them in. He’s a genius and has many gadgets which catches the eye of Kit and has her mesmerized with him. Wes can’t believe his luck that the beautiful woman is interested an she goes out of his comfort zone to pursue her and Kit doesn’t mind at all. But with new murders taking place and her fellow officers not trusting her instincts, trying to fit in is harder than it should be and when her instincts prove to be right....will it be in time ?
A great read with some steam, suspense, murder, a recluse hot man and a quirky officer. I liked these two and how Kit took to Wes, not ignoring him and wanting to know who the man is. Wes was a bit awkward and remained somewhat of a mystery to me, I wanted to know more about him, his past, his past relationships, what drove him to be a recluse and stay away from society. Otherwise I enjoyed this read and found it very hard to put down.

This is the fourth and final book in the Rocky Mountain K9 series. And it does wrap up the mystery that began in the first book. The book introduces us to two new characters, Kit a female K9 officer and Wes, a ranger who watches for fires. And, of course, the characters we have met previously in other books return.

While the action is non-stop, to me, the best part of the book is the blooming romance between Wes and Kit. I love Wes, he is a gentle giant who has issues with personal relationships (possibly Asperger's). He wants so desperately to connect with Kit, and he does not want to screw it up. He goes to his sister for advice and their conversations are comical, heart warming, and incredibly funny. Kit gets Wes, and that makes for a great romance.

This was a great ending to a very well rounded series.

Received as an ARC from Netgalley.

Through The Fire is book 4 in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series and I do recommend you read the previous books in order but you don't really have to.

I very much enjoyed this book. Just like the previous books there is action and some interesting characters.

I have read this book pretty quickly because I was so into this book and I did end up staying up late just to finish it because I have to say this book was awesome.

I give this 5 out of 5.

A sweet story featuring two improbable and very likable protagonists, great for dog lovers, with a cast of secondary characters that somehow transform the snowy almost ghost small town of Monroe in an agreeable setting.
Wes and Kit are both great characters and they’re very good together, understanding and complementing each other.
Katie Ruggle delivers a wonderful depiction of the socially awkward, reclusive hero – an endearing shy bearded flannel-clad giant – who sports several talents. I loved this “wonderfully dorky lumberjack”, and the smart and sensitive heroine K-9 police officer is the perfect match.
I thought we were often more told than shown about Wes personality traits and his difficulty reading people and I wish we had more of the romance between Wes and Kit and less of the thriller plotline, which left me sometimes a bit incredulous, what with the villain always managing to avoid being discovered and the corresponding police officers ineptitude.

She knows who is responsible for the mysterious fires raging across Monroe, but Kit convince the locals to trust her. Wesley March is willing to help her prove she’s right.

Strong, convincing characters easily draw readers into this thrilling and explosive romantic suspense that keeps readers holding their breath in anticipation of what will happen next. The romance between Kit and Wesley is sweet and charming as both seem a bit hesitant in moving forward but the chemistry between sizzles with electrical intensity pulling them closer. Wesley is a bit of a nerd with some social issues that easily captivates readers while Kit is more outgoing and take charge which proves that opposites does attract sometimes and ensures that readers keep a smile on their face. There is quite a few emotional concerns that have to be overcome as well as all the danger surrounding them which makes this romance quite interesting.

The fast paced plot flows smoothly from beginning to end with lots of exciting danger, adrenaline pumping thrills and surprising twists that keeps readers guessing as well as ensuring that there is never a dull moment to be found. The well-developed story and characters is full of vivid details that make it easy for readers to connect and become caught up in each and every aspect as well guaranteeing that readers can picture each and every scene which in return means readers become unable to put the book down. I was certainly one that couldn’t put it down and I fell hard for Wes and his robot cat and I really like the explosive final battle with the bad guy as it had such realistic events taking place.

Okay so first, the cover to this book really gets me irritated. The main handler is a WOMAN!
This is the fourth book in the series, of which I've read two. You definitely want to read them in order because there is a lot of backstory going on here.
As the only female and a new transplant to the area, Kit is at a disadvantage. She's already out of the loop on most of the things going on in the small mountain town. But when trouble continues to occur her gut tells her they are looking in the wrong direction. And to make everything fun, let's throw in the reclusive but seriously sexy fire watcher Wes. He's a quirky love interest but I never got a real feel for him overall.

Great story. Lots of action between all the characters. Kit has recently been hired by the Monroe Police Dept.. She feels like all her team mates don't trust her, due to the last person was crooked. Kit supects Elena as being a trouble maker from the start -- body language does not match the emotion that one would expect from someone who was suppossedly going through what Elena proposed she was. Alex (Elena) was attempting to inact revenge on her brother - who she believes she was killed by child trafficitors. She has kept tabs on her brother for all the years - and killed all the women he as attempted to help (in her mempory - he thought she was killed). Each woman was either burned / blown up / or shot as revenge against her brother. Justice (bloodhound) is not fooled by Elena - he tracks her back to the home she is staying at from the fire / body dicovered by the Monore fire and police deot. Kit's co-workers think something is wrong with Jutice - that he is not tracking the right person. In the end everyone realizes Justice and Kit truely belong in their dept and are real team players.

When I want a romantic suspense where just about anything can happen, Katie Ruggle is an author that immediately comes to mind. That's what I enjoy the most with her books. Nobody is safe. Heck, no building is safe. I love that she goes there. Through the Fire was a fantastic addition (and possibly closer) to Ruggle's Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series.

I adore Katie Ruggle's writing. Her romantic suspense books are action packed with a fun romance between two strong characters. I will say this, though. In Through the Fire, the romance took a bit more of a backseat to the suspense. The connection between Kit and Wes is there, but it felt a bit rushed and could have used a bit more page time. On the other hand, the suspense plot was well developed with a solid pace. If you are new to this series, I suggest starting from the first book. All four books in the series are connected in a way that'll make them more enjoyable (and easier to follow) if you read them in order. Plus Through the Fire relies a bit on information from the first book, Run to Ground. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Through the Fire. And if it is the last book in the series, it did a fabulous job wrapping everything up.

I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

If i am not mistaken, this will be the end of this particular series. And as ending goes, this was really something!

It was hard and it was funny at the same time. They have to keep secrets from Kit, at the same time be a good team mate to her. It had these moments that I want to throttle Theo and the rest of the guys...they were so..Uh!

Wes, on the other hand, is something else. I so love his bat cave...or tower? and the way he got close to the twins was also good.

All in all it was endearing and fun, and full of action! And i love it! Another good work with this series @KatieRuggle! I will be reading the other book!

Kit is a K9 police officer, after a problem with a member of her old team she decided to change location. She moves to a town she thought was quiet and with no real major crime. When she finally gets to Monroe, Colorado she is going to be late on her first day. Wesley helps her get her trailer in her new driveway because of the snow she was having trouble parking it. She couldn't help but notice that Wesley who ask her to call her Wes was big and beautiful. Something she didn't usually do, is being instantly attracted to someone. As the story continues there has been a lot happening in the town. With Kit being new is confused and her new partners are very secretive around her. She hopes after some time this will get better. Really its not till the last part of the book that happens. I liked that the women in this story are strong and competent. This is a really fast moving and interesting book I highly recommend it you will be on the edge of your seat the last few chapters.

The story line starts with officer Kit and her blood hound Justice moving to small town Monroe in Colorado to work in police station , where she meets the interesting people . Little does she know that soon action , suspense and intrigue and romance start . This story has a little of everything and a bit of humor . This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

While you can read this book as a stand alone, you will miss out on the many references to what has happened in the past and the biggest history that you need to know before reading is that Jules was very nervous about her father and stepmother finding her and her siblings after they ran from an abusive house. I have read the previous books in the series but read so many books that I don't always recall events in the series so I "felt" like I was reading this as a person new to the series.

Like I mentioned earlier, of the three books, all I could remember was Jules' situation and the Mysterious Mr. Espinosa which helped me understand why everyone was so suspicious of Kit when she was new to town and that the three police officers were so protective of Jules and any woman that stayed at the house.

I loved that we knew ahead of time who the guilty person was and that Kit didn't trust her and Sam was smart enough to do the same, plus Vicki. Everyone else was totally fooled by Elena/Alex and it was so frustrating for Kit that her fellow officers would not listen to her or even the evidence when it was so blatantly clear that Elena was not the poor victim of abuse that the previous women were.

It was so neat to see the hero as the woman, and the guy she falls for is kind of a nerdy woods man who is not all cool and self assured but a loner and socially awkward. Kit was so great at helping him feel comfortable when he was exposed to too many people!

There is non-stop drama and action as they search for an arsonist and a murderer and are not willing to trust Kit or her dog, Justice, when twice the bloodhound leads them straight to Elena/Alex. Who Alex turns out to be was a big surprise! Probably the only good thing from Alex showing up is that Jules' situation is finally resolved so that she and the siblings are now "free" and no longer fear being found.

Since I missed all the references to the destruction of the town, the Lieutenant who was bad, and can't remember much of Grace or Sarah, I am going to go back and refresh my memory.

The ending was great I loved that Kit and Wes were part of the group and no longer outsiders, but mostly that the guys were eating crow!!

After that breathtaking climax at the end of the last book and that teaser there in the last few sentences, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. New twist in a lady K-9 cop and her adorable tracker bloodhound to take up this exciting leg of the series.
Review

Through the Fire is book four in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. This is a series that must be read in order as each book builds on the others and is four interlocking parts to the overall series suspense arc.

The lead character in this one is Kit Jerrigan a female cop who left her last job under a bit of dark cloud and is starting over in the small mountain town of Monroe. She’s had a rough time since blowing the whistle on a corrupt partner and now hopes for a fresh start. Only, her first day in town and on the job is a doozy. Her new co-workers, Theo, Hugh, and Otto, regard her with suspicion and her cop sense is tingling when it comes to what they and their ladyfolks are hiding. Then, they respond to a fire call and a dead body crops up and the trail leads to someone the others refuse to treat as a suspect. On the bright side, she gets a good sort of tingly feeling around the awkward Forestry Dept fire spotter, Wes.

Like the last one, this one was full throttle in places and kept things really moving along in the latter part of the book. The set up at the beginning was not devoid of good stuff, but it does build slowly before it gets moving. I was startled when the murderer got several sections of narration along with Kit and Wes, but knowing what they were doing did not affect that surprise twist in the end. Whew boy, that was a stunner and yes, it did come out of nowhere.

This book, this book… It took me by surprise- in a good way, I think. Still processing, but I do want to share my immediate thoughts. Overall, I enjoyed it and enjoyed what I got.
Kit was a strong heroine and I liked her. She was up against a lot and had been in her past too. She could have gotten ugly and angry, but instead, she knuckled down and did her job and did it well. She was intuitive and smart, but genuinely kind and understanding particularly with Sam, Jule’s brother who was so fragile in his way. She took time out for troubled kids and her dog. Seriously! Justice was adorable and a colorful quirky character in his own right.
Wes was a cutie. So cute, all! He was socially awkward and struggled so hard to be around people and understand social cues, but he stepped up and tried hard when it came to Kit. And, Kit the darling! She saw the treasure that was Wes. But don’t be fooled, this boy was hotter than a firecracker when the clothes did go flying.

Now, don’t take this as a major criticism because its not. Once in a while, I come across a book that that doesn’t fit neatly in the box. I finished this one and felt like I was missing something. I wasn’t and the book wasn’t underdeveloped or missing anything, but I was left feeling this way. Why? Well, it was that ‘out of left field’ ending that was a stunner, but not actually that far out. Just wow! She got me and, on reflection, I loved being startled like that. And, this isn’t the first time she’s pulled a ‘gotcha’ in her twists and reveals through both her series.

Okay, so besides my weird feelings about the end, I loved how this story wrapped up this series arc wonderfully. Loose strings were tied off and a great deal of time was spent with all the regulars in this one. Newbies Kit and Wes were a good fit with the others even when I wanted to smack a whole bunch of people for being deliberately obtuse and ignoring Kit’s worthy concerns, but they were blinded by their own issues. If I had a niggle, it was wanting a little more of Kit and Wes because they were so great together.

I’m not sure if this was the finale to the series, but it felt like it. I know a companion story standalone is coming out next about a side character that was in the earlier series and this one, but I had the distinct feeling that there isn’t really anything left to wrap up (a story about Mr. E would be welcomed however).

So, there you have it. Another fab read from an autobuy author. If you love quirky small town mixed with action-packed romantic suspense, you need look no further.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Even though I felt conflicted about past characters, the MCs, Wes and Kit, managed to really click with me and I was 100% invested in their story. When you can connect with the characters so strongly, even when the story doesn't pan out how you expected, its still pretty awesome to see it through to the end. I've probably said it before but KR writes some amazing characters that you can't help but fall for :)

Kit and her loyal canine partner, Justice have just transferred to Monroe after she gained a bad reputation for ratting out her partner for illegal dealings. She's looking for a fresh start and determined to get along with her new team.

Her optimistic plans are kind of shot to hell right from the start when a arson in the area pits her against her fellow officers. Lucky for her, Kit makes friends with one person who makes her instantly feel right at home. Wes works with the forest service and shares the same suspicions as Kit. Tired of fighting Hugh and Theo on what she should and shouldn't do in an active investigation, Kit finds herself instead, teaming up with Wes to uncover the arsonist and murderer hiding in their midst.

I liked Kit right from the start and it sucked to see her feeling instantly alienated in Monroe, but especially by her supposed team of fellow officers. I seriously hated that she had to fight so hard to prove herself, when it had nothing to do with her but rather the guys' own misgivings and assumptions. I warmed to her right away and it was easy to like her. She was loyal, funny and sweet. She was a strong heroine who knew her own limitations but also her strengths. She was refreshing.

With this author, I'm not surprised that I loved her latest Hero. Wes was just so endearing and charming in his own unique way. I loved him from his blushing to his beard, to his formal talk and his half smiles. Like Kit, I found him amusing and adorably sexy *fans self* Together, these two were a great team :)

Let me first off saying I have only read book 1 in this series and to tell you the truth it was over a year ago and I have read over 300 books since then so I really don't remember it all that much. That being said you don't need to read the first 4 books in this series to read this one, though I did feel I missed somethings that happened before but not enough to not enjoy this book. Kit is new to this town and doesn't get the most welcome feels. Though she doesn't feel wanted by her fellow officers she still tries her best to do what's right. She meets Wes the eccentric fire patrol officer. They both have an instant attraction to each other. Kit tries to solve who is an arsen-murder even if her fellow officers don't want to tell her everything. With the help of Wes things finally come to a head at the end.

Through the Fire by Katie Ruggle
Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit #4

Kit Jernigan arrives in Monroe, Colorado with her bloodhound, Justice, ready for her first day of work only to find she is running late with a trailer on the back of her vehicle unwilling to easily line up and back into her new driveway. To her rescue comes a rather different sort of hero who guides her into the perfect spot to leave that trailer before heading off to work.

Her reception by the other policemen on staff is not warm but she does get through it and quickly is out on the job at a house fire that proves to have a murder victim inside. One murder, then another and perhaps more by a rather crazy and surprising culprit with a motive darker than most I have read is finally unearthed and eventually dealt with. Of course the three men from the previous book, the women they ended up with, the siblings of one of the women, dogs aplenty, the mountain folk and mysterious Mr. E make an appearance and have parts in the story even though this is also the finding of a HEA for Kit and Wesley “Wes” March. Who is Wes? Well, a rather quiet, definitely large, seriously intelligent, almost hermit-like and unusual man who proves to be just what Kit needs to complete her life…just as she completes his.

This is the end of this series and it was good. It provided closure for the women in Monroe while leaving me wondering if perhaps Mr. E would get a story with a HEA of his own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks-Casablanca for the ARC – This is my honest review.

(sigh) I have loved this series so much, and Through the Fire was just the sweet enticing icing on the cake for me. And although I know you get tired of hearing me say it… but this series really does need to be read in order because of the overarching thread and each story building somewhat on the one just past.

Kit and her bloodhound, Justice, are a perfect team. New to the town and the job, Kit isn’t fitting in as well as she’d hoped with the other members of the team. She’s just left a job where she had the difficult task of turning in a corrupt partner… she doesn’t want to do that again, but something is off in the small town of Monroe and no one is talking to her. Sometimes it takes an outsider, someone who doesn’t know all the tiny details about a situation, people or town to be able to see clearly. Soon after Kit’s arrival there is a fire, a dead body… and her bloodhound has tracked clues right to a door that no one wants to believe. Kit’s going to need help on this one, and she finds it in the most unlikely form of a loner who doesn’t read personal clues very well but certainly feels the spark between them very clearly.

Through the Fire is intense as it ties up the threads expertly woven throughout this series. There will be twists. Certainly surprises are in store for the reader along the way. This is why I really believe this series needs to be read in order. Wes is charming, sexy and sees more than he lets on. Socially awkward perhaps yet he trusts Kit and the feelings between them. Justice is adorable, a hero in his own right and I believe you’ll fall in love with this special pup. We’ll run into familiar faces, couples throughout this story. I don’t know for certain if this is the last… it feels like it, but I’ve learned to never say done for there are always possibilities. There is a lot going on in Through the Fire that I simply cannot comment on because to do so would give away spoilers… but the tensions, the emotions felt so very real and I completely enjoyed being drawn into this world once again. If you love Romantic Suspense with great characters, a compelling addictive story line then you’ll want to be reading the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. I’d highly recommend all of the stories without hesitation.

I loved this one — but note to the publisher, that should have been Kit and Justice on the cover, it really should have been.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

It’s thoughtful, complex, jam-packed with adventure, adrenaline, twisted turns and an investigation that will collide with previous investigations that have formed throughout this series. It will eventually come full circle and test Kit and Wesley, in more ways than they can ever imagine.

A page-turner from the very first word to the last word. Get caught up in the excitement of Kit’s journey. Starting over and under some adverse conditions, along with her beloved, trusted K9 (he is truly remarkable) and it’s ultimate journey to love. It’s dramatic, it’s heated suspense, it’s doing your utmost to protect those you come to care for even when you are feeling so out of place and that everyone is hiding something from you.

When you have wonderful and former series characters you want more to their story, and this story delivers the more… even when at times, you wanted to shake some of those guys (Kit’s Police team) so bad for not listening to Kit and keeping key information, and closely guarded secrets from her is not helping matters.

I’ve loved reading Kit and Wesley’s story. It’s a fabulous weekend reading of mystery, dramatic suspense to unravel and keep you engrossed. Sweet tender moments, wonderful, quirky characters, and it’s small-town atmosphere that has suffered horrendous tragedies of late. Katie Ruggle definitely gifts you a fabulous, detailed story with that element of revenge, intrigue, and uncertainty added to all the goings on that come with small town living.

If you aren’t familiar with Katie’s - Rocky Mountain K9 Unit… you will want to invest time to go back and read, to gain a better appreciation and understanding of what has lead to the events and why Kit has to work so hard to gain the trust, respect and even friendship of her fellow officers in THOUGH THE FIRE Bk 4. A definite recommend reading this entire series.

Through the Fire by Katie Ruggle is part of the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. This amazing addition to the series begins with a bang so you know right off that there is going to be a ton of action in this book. If reading this without having read any of the previous books, it begins with an air of wariness, woo-whoo, and intrigue concerning the people Kit meets along with the first day events.

There is so much going on in this book it is impossible to put down. Kit Jernigan, the new deputy and Wes March, the local fire spotter work well together not just romantically but also as a team when working together. The romance fits well in the story with just the right amount of attraction, and heat. The fact that Kit is a woman deputy and a K-9 officer really added to my enjoyment of the story. Justice does his part too. It is a wonderful addition to the series that romance suspense readers will enjoy as much as I did.

Loved it! True to form Mrs. Ruggle has created characters that you feel you have known your entire life. Wes and Kit (and Justice, too) are adorable. Wes is so endearing, geeky and lovable I could not get enough of him. The story has action, suspense, humor, romance and unexpected surprises.
