I love books with animals and/or kids. I like it even more when its k-9. Kit meeting Wes and they have such a quick connection like they are two halves or a whole. I was glad to see the other charcters especially sam. I was happy that jules and the kids problems was dealt with and closed. If you like mystery with your romance this book is for you. If you enjoy animals and kids in your romance again this is for you.

I really hated how Kit was made to be an outside for most of the book. It makes sense with what our characters have been through, but it still annoyed me. As Kit didn't know anyone, she was looking at things with fresh eyes and found things to be suspicious of and things to see for the delight they were. I liked that even thought the guys kept Kit at an arms length, she still tried to do her job and was there when they really needed her to be. I think going forward Kit is now welcomed with open arms!

Through the Fire is the fourth and possibly the final book of the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit. This whole series as a whole is an Adult Contemporary Suspense Romance. Everyone has had the experience of being the new person in a tight knit group. No one wants to come some place new and start from the ground up when they have been doing the same job prior but has to prove that they know what they are doing and they are just as good as the rest of the group.

This book is following the story of Kit, a K-9 police officer and Wesley, a park ranger at an outpost outside Monroe and is told by their perspectives as well as the criminal that is not leaving the town in peace. With all the other couples being in the book as well it is nice to see the status of those relationships and how they are progressing. This is such a good story with strong characters and a good mystery with a great possible conclusion to the series.

Okay. While I've enjoyed this entire series, it didn't quite have the emotional depth of the S&R series. However, I should also point out that S&R #3 is one of my go-to reads when I'm having a bad day, so I might a teeny bit biased about those guys. The point I'm (slowly) getting at is that the men from Monroe had big shoes to fill.

That said, this was a solid, satisfying ending to the series. Kit and Wes hit high notes with me. Wesley is nearly a hermit who lives alone and tinkers with his gadgets year round in the fire lookout. Kit is the newest member of the Monroe K9 unit and she's stepping into a lot of secrets. That the men who are protecting Jules and the others are slow to accept her isn't a surprise, but it is hard for Kit.

Wes helps soothe the sting a bit, but...did I mention those secrets. Because Theo, Hugh, and Otto have a big stake in making sure Jules and the others are kept safe and off the radar. But their silence on the women AND how they aren't willing to dig into the newest arrival's past sets Kit's internal alarms pinging.

Which causes a few problems, as you can probably guess.

BUT WES! He's awkward and sweet and crazy smart and I kinda loved how he went to his sister for advice on what to do when he likes someone. Socially awkward heroes make me grin.

Bottom line: A satisfying ending for Jules and her siblings plus a smokin' relationship between Kit and Wes.

I think this is the most engaging book in this particular series. It's hard to be an outsider, even harder when the person you replace has been tragically killed. Two very different individuals come together and make a very gifted couple. The path they take to finding their place is engaging and unique.

Kit and her K9 partner Justice have just moved to Colorado to take a job with with a small-town police department. She does not feel as if the officers are as accepting as she'd like, but she does meet a very interesting man who she would like to know better. Her suspicions are ignored, but she perseveres, and everything resolves nicely. Quirky, well-developed characters (especially Kit's love interest, Wes, a shy inventor and fire spotter), and of course the dogs make this well-plotted mystery an enjoyable read.

I have very much enjoyed these stories about the tough men who live in and around the town of Monroe that virtually shuts down as winter approaches. The author has cleverly weaved an ongoing plot arc around women who end up in the town hiding from those who are connected with organised crime. This particular book twists the idea a little as this time it’s not the heroine who is on the run but she’s about to get very much involved with those who enjoy the ‘safety’ of Monroe.
Kit is the new deputy in town and right from the start she’s struggling to fit in with her new colleagues. Kit knew she would need to earn their trust but there’s something odd about the family that lives just out of town and Kit seems to be the only one with reservations about exactly what’s happening. An attack of arson and a murderer on the run with the only lead appearing to be found by Kits faithful bloodhound and yet the police just don’t seem to want to pursue it so it’s obvious to Kit that she needs to start digging !
Wes is the love interest thrown into this story and if blunt I thought he was underused. He’s written as a man apart, someone who functions better without inane, human distractions. The author never directly mentions that he is possibly on the autistic spectrum but to this reader it seemed implied. I liked Wes and adored how he shyly approached a relationship with Kit but honestly their romance felt rushed and peripheral to the wrapping up of the overall story with brings so much from previous books to ahead.
It was an interesting read and I enjoyed the switch from the cops saving the damsel in distress aka Kit to her actually being the saviour. I remember the author previously writing about a socially awkward character but somehow this time it felt lacking something. There’s humour here and so much sweetness too but I thought it primarily seemed to be a vehicle to wrap up the story of Jules and her siblings which started the whole series. So the romance felt overshadowed to this reader but nevertheless I did enjoy it and would recommend this series.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fai

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the fourth installment of this series and ninth book I've read from Katie Ruggle. I've read this series and her Search and Rescue series. I've really liked reading this author's work because it has a nice balance of backstory, action, and romance. I've appreciated her characters and the way they interact with each other. Every one has a distinct personality.

It picks up after a few turbulent months in Monroe. At the end of the last book, we thought that the story was complete but there was one final twist. I would definitely suggest reading the previous books before this one because it does not regurgitate the previous stories to catch the reader up. The roles are reversed in this book since the female lead, Kit, is the cop. It was a nice switch from the damsel in distress vibe the other books had. Even though the females leads were strong and resilient they were still paired with alpha males. Kit and Wes have a different dynamic. I really liked how Kit pulls Wes out of his shell. It was nice to see the male lead be the socially awkward one for a change from many other romantic action stories.

I am kind of kicking myself for reading this ARC so quickly because now I'll have to wait to read more from Katie Ruggle.

Through the Fire is the conclusion of another great series by Katie Ruggle.

I love those shy, sweet mountain men that Katie Ruggle keeps putting in her stories. In this last novel of the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit, we meet Wesley March who spends most of his time alone up in his tower, like a big, bearded Rapunzel, where he watches over the town to alert the fire department about forest fires.

Wesley is smart, and when he isn't watching for fires or taking amazing nature photos, he invests gadgets and whatzits. The only things that Wes isn't very good with is people. But Wes is smart enough to know this about himself and usually discusses any issues with his sister to determine where he might have gone wrong.

Lately he had to make a special trip to the bat cave. No, not that kind of bat cave, but the one with real bats. That is the only place on the mountain to get reception and he needs his sister's help. He has met a new resident to their quaint little town of Monroe, Colorado, Officer Kit Jernigan. The newest addition to the K9 unit is, in a word, mezmerizing, and overwhelming. Okay, two words. So a trip to the bat cave was necessary so that Wes could check in with his sister since he thinks...well, he thinks she was flirting with him. But he isn't really certain of it.

And if she is, then Wes is going to have to work up the nerve to actually ask her out because he has never met anyone like Kit before. She seems to understand him and she doesn't seem to mind when he can't think up something to talk about.

Wes doesn't mind being alone in his mountain tower but if he could maybe spend that time alone, with Kit, that would be amazing.

There is absolutely nothing more adorable than a big, mountain of a man who is geeky, shy and who blushes. Kit and Wes sparkle from the get-go and the only thing frustrating is that there was so much story plot and excitement, that we didn't get enough of the quiet and sweet Kit/Wes moments.

In this final installment, we get to tie up all the loose ends and a new arrival is trying to tie them up permanently. There is so much going on it will be hard to find a place to stop for the night so this might be one you save for a weekend book binge.

I have really enjoyed both of the Katie Ruggle's series and her very interesting characters, although I think it is time to write a story somewhere there isn't so much snow. Ugh, who can live like that? I have a copy of the next book which will be out this fall and which is the beginning of a new series which will involve more...mountains and snow. What's wrong with a beach rescue?

I am looking forward to seeing what the next series brings.

I love Katie Ruggle's books, and this one did not disappoint. This book is a little different than the others in this series as the main characters were not the victims of violence looking for a new safer life. That does not mean there was not plenty of action to keep you riveted. Kit and Wes have awesome chemistry. I loved how nerdy and adorable Wes is and how Kit just gets him. There is also plenty of page time for the characters from previous books and we wrap up some of the cliff hangers. The ending was quite surprising considering who the bad guy turned out to really be. I am actually hoping Mateo gets a book. I would defiantly recommend this book.

I received this book free from Netgally in exchange for my honest opinon.

This is the fourth in Ruggle’s series about K-9 officers in an isolated, tiny Colorado town where several women fleeing danger have settled. The woman in this novel is a new K-9 officer, Kit Jerrigan, who arrives in town with her adorable bloodhound to join the team. There is a lot she doesn’t get about what is going on in the town and the mysterious women there plus the newest arrival whom the reader learns right away is a heartless murderer.

Add in the sexy loner, Wes March, who lives up in a fire-spotting tower that he’s equipped with all sorts of amazing technical inventions. Wes seems a bit on the autistic spectrum in that he’s very unsure of how to interact with other people so he isolates himself and, basically, doesn’t talk with anyone in town, except for a few mountain men who are also loners. But he meets Kit on her first day there and they’re both attracted to each other.

If you haven’t read the earlier novels, you’ll be as mystified as Kit is. There are are a lot of backstories that are referred to, but never explained. I would find that irritating if this were my first book in the series.

Then, in the climax of the novel, there is more of a backstory referred to that is never explained. Maybe we’ll get some of that in a later novel, but it was irritating to have the motivation for all the mystery in the story still mysterious and unclear.

I also found the character of Wes a bit too unbelievable. He’s this terribly insecure loner who doesn’t know how to talk to a woman and has to call his younger sister to relate conversation to have her figure out if Kit actually likes him. He lives in a tower on a mountain. No one in the town has interacted with him, but he still has a bunch of condoms next to his bed - what? Whom was he sleeping with? Couldn’t the author have given us a little hint?

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I did enjoy this installment from Katie Ruggle. I really liked Kit a lot. Her personality really showed through and I liked that Wes's quirks are amusing to her in an attraction way. I liked the two of them a lot. The villain in this title was a little disappointing in that you know pretty quickly who they are. With that being said, I liked who the villain was and how they operated. I wish that in not knowing so soon you would have been able to play Kit's interactions more.

Kit Jernigan is the new cop in Monroe, Colorado. After one of their own working with the criminals that turned the small town into a post-apocalyptic movie set, she doesn't take it personally that her three colleagues on the K9 unit are taking their time in trusting her. What chafes is the fact they apparently can't figure out their girlfriends' new roommate isn't what she seems. Why are these three cops willing to trust a stranger over her cop instincts?

There's something off with the woman, Kit feels it in her bones...

Yes, this series at least ended on a high note. Even though it didn't concentrate on victims getting their second chances like the first three did, it featured a strong, confident leading lady (the cover should feature a woman, since the heroine is the one with the dog...and the gun), with killer instincts, and an adorable dog.

I liked Kit's strong cop-woman persona, and I liked her a little awkward girl-with-a-crush persona as well. It matched very well with the adorkable hero, and every scene these two shared, made me smile.
The romance felt a little rushed, since most of the story revolved around the trouble in Monroe and the newest arrival (not to mention the scenes from the villain's point of view), so the reader didn't spend much time with the hero and heroine, but they were cute together, highly compatible, and I loved that he trusted her from the get go.

Unlike her three partners, who were strangely obtuse in their inability/unwillingness to see the truth until it was almost too late—and even then, Kit had to save the day. Girl power!
I never particularly cared for either of the three previous heroes, so their reactions in this book weren't disappointing from the character point of view, but they were disappointing from the point of view of their profession.

The suspense was good, though, keeping the reader guessing just what the villain's purpose was and how that purpose would be accomplished, though I found the resolution to Jules' familial drama rather quickly brushed aside and ended. After all the angst from the first book and through the rest, the "finale" of it all felt like it was written more as an afterthought than a worthy solution.

Beside the strange reactions from the three previous heroes and the easy solution to the problem that began the whole series, this story delivered.
Wonderful protagonists, solid suspense, and an utterly adorable canine partner.

Through the Fire by Katie Ruggle is the 4th book in her Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. I have enjoyed the first three books in this series, and I thought this one was even more exciting. The theme of this series are women who are in hiding to escape their terrible or dangerous life, and sent to a small town in the Colorado Mountains, to live in hiding. Each book brought in one women in hiding, and by this book all three women share a bond, as they keep secret the man who helped them escape and gave them a place to hide in Monroe. Each of them fell in love with cops from the K-9 unit. The men know the girls stories, they watch over them and help protect them, but they do not know the man who helped them.

Through the Fire is a slight change, as we meet our heroine, Kit Jernigan, just arriving in Monroe to join the K-9 force. Kit looks forward to working in a peaceful small town, as opposed to the big city. She brings her dog, Justice, who is a K-9 Tracker dog. She meets Hugh, Theo and Otto, but before she can even settle down, she is already on a case with dead body found in a house fire. Justice tracks the scent to Jules (previous book heroine) house, where a new woman has arrived to hide. Kit suspects her, but the men tell her to lay off, since she is here for their protection. We learn early on that this new person is not like the others.

Wes, our hero, is the local fire spotter, who meets Kit the day she arrived, when she got stuck in the snow and he helped her. Wes is a loner, who keeps to himself, and also creates all kinds of gadgets that he eventually can sell. Wes is a hunk, very tall and is gun shy with woman, until he meets Kit. A romance will slowly build, with Wes gaining more confidence, as he falls in love with Kit. Kit is also falling for Wes, as she finds him endearing and sexy. They are great together. However, Kit is in the middle of a number of things that have been happening, and becomes more and more suspicious of Elena (the newcomer). She keeps an eye on her, despite the others telling her to lay off.

What follows is an exciting and tense storyline, but the camaraderie between the cops and their woman, the kids, dogs with Kit, as well as her relationship with Wes, made this also a fun read. I loved Justice, who was such a lovable dog. The last third of the book became very exciting, as the danger escalates for all of them, including Kit. There were a number of surprises at the end, which I think puts the finishing touches on the overall storyline of this series.

Through the Fire is another suspenseful, action packed story. With the resolution of this book, I suspect this could be the end of this series, unless Ruggle changes things to continue. Katie Ruggle has written a great story, wonderful couple, and exciting action packed throughout. I suggest you read this series and start with the first book, Run to Ground.

I just love this series! So much fun! Kit and Wes are great characters and the twists and turns of this one are insane. I sat down and didn't stop until I finished. I want to go back and read the whole series. I also want the next book in the series😄.
If you haven't tried this series run to the store and get book 1!

4.5 Hearts, SJ, Romance Junkies

In Katie Ruggle's fourth installment of her Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series, the story centers around newcomer Kit Jernigan, the latest addition to the K-9 unit in the small town of Monroe, Colorado.

Kit's been through a tough time in her prior unit and just wants to fit in. But all is not quiet in Monroe. A killer strikes, and her fellow officers don't know her well enough to trust her instincts. Then there's her attraction to quiet, super intelligent Wes March. Wes is a little strange but full of heart and living out by himself in the middle of nowhere. With Wes on her side, Kit might just find her way in a new town full of secrets and danger.

Ruggle once again builds an unforgettable story with quirky, strong, likable characters. Kit's a formidable heroine, vulnerable yet confident in many ways. Wes really steals the show though, a hero who's so smart while uncomfortable and awkward in social situations. The pair are an unbeatable duo. The action proceeds at the perfect pace, the tension crisp, the romance heartwarming.

Romantic suspense at it's best, and it just keeps getting better!

Don't miss the others in this series. (They can be read as standalones, but for more enjoyment, read them in order.)

I have really enjoyed these books. This is a few books in, but you can read it as a stand alone. I still adore all the characters including the new one, Kit. She has come to town because she accepted a position on the police force. She and her dog needed a new start after her last one didn't end so well.

Wesley is a stranger to most in town, even though he has lived there for years. I loved how quick whitted he was. He definately had deep thoughts and an unusual thought process but I loved the back and forth between him and Kit. The way Kit held her own with the other police officers, knowing they were hiding something from her, was impressive and I loved how gutsy she was. Overall, it was a good book and answered a lot of questions!

It was a 4/5 for me.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
