Is it wrong that my favorite character was Tyler's grandmother? She's got grit and spunk and I definitely want her to adopt me. That's not to say that the rest aren't good too, but I dearly love that old lady.
There aren't a lot of surprises here. It's obvious that Bette is going to stay and that between her and Amanda, he'll have a reason to move. And Amanda will need to face her history and address past hurts & secrets in order to be able to look to her future. You know things are going to work out but it is getting there that Porter makes work.
Wholesome and sweet (with a little drama to keep things hopping), Take a Chance on Me is one of those small town romances where by the end you want to move there and become friends with everyone.
Amanda has befriended her 80 year old client Bette. When her grandson try to convince Bette to move to Texas Amanda agrees to show Tyler how wonderful Marietta really is. Tyler is here to put this Amanda person in her place. He is positive she is taking advantage of his grandmother. When he sees her for the first time she is not at all what he is expecting. As he gets to know her he realizes he might have been wrong about her. Just when things start to heat up a family secret comes to light that could ruin everything. Can the past just stay in the past or is it destine to determine the future. Great read. Sometimes you just need a feel good book to escape the reality of every day.

Synopsis: Amanda is a hairdresser in a small Colorado town. One day she has a man in her chair that she has never seen before. She is immediately attracted to this big hunk'o'man, who turns out to be her favourite customer's beloved grandson.
Tyler is in town because he believes that his grandmother is being taken advantage of by the dastardly hairdresser, so he comes in to town a little early to meet the woman. His plan is to take his grandmother away to live with him so that he can take care of her in her doddering old age. He's intrigued by Amanda, but isn't going to be in town long, and doesn't want to fall for the same wiles that his grandmother has clearly fallen for.
Then his game company is sold to another company that just happens to have headquarters in the town his grandmother lives in, so Tyler returns to town with the intentions of getting his company back and seeing his grandmother...and maybe getting to know Amanda a little better.
What I liked: how kind Amanda was to everyone. I liked that she and her sisters made something of themselves when they didn't come from a lot. I also liked that when Tyler was commenting on the fact that her salon was really girly, and that she might attract more male customers if she changed it, Amanda pointed out that the entire town was geared toward male sensibilities, and if men felt uncomfortable, there were plenty of other "male friendly" salons and barbershops in town. (In a town that is supposedly so small??? But I digress.) It is something that I had never really thought about until that moment.
What I didn't like: that the townspeople still had the same reaction to Amanda and her sisters as when they were kids. I personally don't think that successful business owners could really be considered poor white trash. Amanda and Tyler went from first date to forever kind of love so fast that I had to check and see if missed pages because I fell asleep and had my finger on the forward button. I also thought that Amanda overreacted to the secret about her mother. I just didn't see how it could matter so much. In fact, her mother kept the same secret, but she wasn't hurt and betrayed by her. Also, this was a small town that she had lived in most of her life: how did this NEVER come up or get thrown in her face?
Overall impression: told in alternating third person POV between Amanda and Tyler. In the end, I really didn't care about Amanda and Tyler and whether or not they figured things out.

TAKE A CHANCE ON ME by Jane Porter. This is a sweet and heartwarming tale. Amanda is a hard worker, striving to make it on her own and prove, to herself and others, she is more then the poor girl she was growing up. Tyler is a successful game designer that has trouble trusting and believing in others. Tyler's grandmother adores both of them. I enjoyed seeing Amanda and Tyler venture into their relationship. There are ups and downs and Ms. Porter certainly makes it easy to feel the feels and follow along. I truly liked this story - it's easy and light to read but was soothing to the soul too. I smiled, cried and cheered on the lovely couple throughout. I certainly recommend you take a chance on this one! (received ARC for honest review)
Amanda Wright was raised on the wrong side of the tracks and was always looked down on in Marietta. When her parents got into financial problems, she helped them out and almost lost her salon. One of her favorite customers, Bette Justice, gave her a loan which she paid back. Bette is in her 80s and her grandson, Tyler, wants her to come and live with him in Austin, Texas. He also wants to check out this young woman who appears to be taking advantage of her financially. He sneaks into town a few days earlier than his grandmother expects and heads to the salon to check her out. What he finds is surprising. A young, attractive, friendly and sincere woman who gives an excellent haircut.
Meanwhile, Bette is hoping to play matchmaker with her grandson and the girl who she has come to think of as her granddaughter. Things do not go smoothly. Amanda has a lot of feelings from her youth about her inferiority and whether she is worthy of a wealthy suitor. When Bette shares other information about the past, she reacts like a wounded animal and goes into hiding. Can she -overcome the feelings she has about her self-worth and what she perceives others think of her? Will Tyler understand how Bette feels about Marietta and stop trying to get her to leave? Will he realize that Marietta is a great town to live in? A sweet romance that has its bumps along the way. I love visiting the town of Marietta, Montana in the various series and stories that take place here. Anyone who enjoys a sweet romance will love this story and the other two in this series.
This book was fun, sweet, sassy & sad. The characters are strong in faith, conviction & determination. I loved the character of Amanda, she’s beautiful , quirky, independent & sassy. Tyler was bossy, judgemental, suspicious & sexy as heck. With a matchmaking grandmother, a town of busybodies & the eyes of everyone on them, Tyler & Amanda run the gauntlet of emotions as they work towards the future his grandmother saw for them. With the past stopping them up short at one point it takes a lot of courage to move forward to that future. I enjoyed this book, it was written with emotion on every page. Definitely recommend it.
I enjoyed Take a Chance on Me, but it isn't a great book. Amanda and Ty are a cute couple who want the same thing but go about getting it in entirely different ways. Set up by Ty's grandmother, their relationship moves along on the expected course.
To that end, this is a pretty predictable romance. There is little drama beyond the different ways of achieving the same thing - making Grandma happy. The drama comes, mostly at the end, and mostly seemingly manufactured. I appreciated Ty's difficulties (though not the coldness that led to his drama), and I liked seeing an old Mariertta character.
Unfortunately, Amanda's drama felt way over the top and her reaction to it was even worse. It felt like a tempest in a teapot made into a storm for no good reason. I rather thought the connection was sweet and a bit of a "come full circle" while she took it as a personal affront.
In the end, the story without the drama was predictable and with the drama felt forced. It was still enjoyable and I'll still be reading this series eagerly.
As a fan of Marietta and Jane Porter, i clicked right away for this. This started like many of the Marietta books, which is a positive. An Aged Gran who has a son concerned about her and wants her to move back to Tx so he can watch over her.BUT the woman's friends are in Marietta and He starts to fall fo the woman he thought was using the gran...
All looked like things were going well and then there was the internal conflicts our gal started having with her being from poverty and negative gossip and the fella being extremely well off...
Those were the challenges they de3alt with
Take a Chance on Me is set in the Marietta, MT universe and is the third book in Jane Porter's Love on Chance Avenue series. Like I have discovered with the Marietta books, you don't need to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one.
I discovered the Marietta universe during my Christmas story binge read. Since then I've been wanting to read some of the non-Christmas ones so I jumped at the chance to read Jane Porter's newest novel in the universe. I read her 1850s set Chrismas story Away in Montana and really enjoyed it. And I'm happy to say I enjoyed her present-day story of romance.
If you haven't read any of the Marietta books, then this is a nice one to start with even though it is number 3 in the series.
Tyler Justice has come to Marietta to convince his grandmother to move to Austin, TX. However, his grandmother is deeply connected to the community and enlists the help of her hairdresser Amanda Wright to convince him of how great the town and people are.
So as a reader you get a great overview of the "prominent" (in terms of those who have appeared in other books) and the major landmarks of the town. The book is more than just a tour guide to Marietta.
Amanda and her sisters have been on the outside of Marietta society most of their lives having been raised on the "wrong side of the tracks". And it is a stigma that Amanda still fights today. So when Tyler comes accusing her of trying to swindle his grandmother, she is ready for battle. Unfortunately, no matter how much they want to hate each other, there is a magnetism between them that neither has ever felt.
Take a Chance on Me is a sweet, clean romance that was a perfect palate cleanser after three heavy literary mysteries. This fluffy romance would be an excellent spring pairing with a glass of wine and a hammock.
Jane Porter always sucks me into her stories and in Take A Chance On Me she has once again succeeded. This sweet small town romance is set in Marietta Montana, and if you’ve read my reviews before you’ll know that this is a town I have grown to love. This story is a twist on second chances, mixed with a touch of fairy godmother as our protagonists, Tyler and Amanda, are brought together by Tyler’s grandmother Bette. Filled with the warmth that I always associate with Jane Porter’s stories, this book was a delight to read.
I am glad that I took a chance on Take a Chance on Me. Usually I love any Jane Porter book from the very beginning but this time I had trouble getting into the story, especially since I couldn’t decide if I liked Tyler Justice. He came across judgmental and arrogant in the beginning. I put the book down for a day or two, then decided to give it another chance.
I am so glad that I did. It may have had a slow beginning, but it has a wonderful conclusion. Along the way are twists from the past that I did not see coming. It served to make the story richer. I thought Amanda and Bette made perfect friends long before the other connection came to light. Especially since both are quirky in their own unique way.
I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys small-town romance with every day characters. Amanda is sister to the main character in the first book in the series. I now hope the third sister will get her own HEA next.
Take A Chance On Me is another great addition to the Love On Chance Avenue series. Tyler lives in the big city, his life is in Texas and he has no desire for the small town life that his grandmother seems to thrive on. When his grandmother makes changes to her will, Tyler decides to step in to save his obviously addled aging grandmother from being taken advantage of by some gold digging schemer. He couldn’t be more wrong if he tried – and at times he sure does try. Tyler’s determination of sweeping in, scooping up his grandmother and head back to Texas is met with one very stubborn, determined and meddling Bette Justice. She might be getting up there in years, but you do not tell this lady what to do. Not happening.
Amanda is incensed when she realizes exactly who the handsome stranger was that had stopped into her shop for a haircut earlier. Now his slightly offensive questions took on a new meaning once she knew that he was really Tyler Justice, Bette’s grandson. This jerk was getting a piece of her very angry mind and she wouldn’t hold back, not even for the love she had for Bette. Sparks will fly, and lives are about to be changed.
Neither Tyler nor Amanda are the bad guy here. They both love Bette. Yes, there were moments when I wanted to just smack Tyler upside the head, as my own grandmother would have said, for his words and his actions. You know at the heart is his love for his grandmother, but his single-mindedness at trying to force what he believes is best gets in the way of the impression he leaves behind. Actually, my real most loved character here is Bette. You do not want to cross this lady as she sets her own plans into motion.
This is at times an emotional story as secrets are revealed, feelings hurt and words are said in anger. Once again, Marietta works its own unique magic on a man who swore he knew what was best, in spite of the obvious right in front of his eyes. We’ll meet up with old friends again, always a treat for me when visiting Marietta. I enjoyed Amanda and Tyler’s story and would recommend it to any Contemporary Romance reader.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Take a Chance on Me is a fresh and fun read. It takes place in the Marietta, Montana universe and is a great addition to the many other books set there. (I'm not sure how the publisher is able to maintain the quality of these books, but almost all of the Marietta books are 4 or 5 star books, in my opinion.)
Amanda is a very likable and well developed heroine and Tyler is a bit of a stiff of a hero (he does, of course, warm up over the course of the book). I also really liked Bette and her relationship with both characters and her gentle meddling in their lives.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of contemporary romance that is on the sweeter side.
This was a decent story. It's a sweet romance, so if you're looking for more steam, this isn't it. The writing flowed well, and the characters were okay. Tyler and Amanda were okay together, and I liked Bette as a secondary character. My problem was with Amanda with the "drama" started. I liked her before, I thought she was a strong h, but that changed quickly. I didn't understand why she would have been mad about anything that she found out. None of it really concerned her. She felt like she should have been told, but really what would that have changed? It was just silly to me. I would give this author another read though.

Take a Chance on Me (Miracle on Chance Avenue Book 3) by Jane Porter. This is Amanda “Mandy” Wright and Tyler Justice’s story.
I loved Tyler and Mandy’s story. This was a sweet and heartwarming read. I fell in love Tyler and Mandy’s characters. Tyler’s Grandmother, Bette, was a great addition to the story. Bette has been known to play matchmaker. Mandy is suspicious when Bette wants her to show her grandson, Tyler, how great a place that Marietta is to live. Bette says that she is not playing matchmaker or is she?
Take a Chance on Me is a wonderful read to escape from everyday life.

Jane Porter is one of my favorite authors. She never disappoints. I love her fast-paced writing style. Take a Chance on Me is the third book in the series. I recommend reading the entire series to fully enjoy the characters and the fictional town of Marietta, Montana. Amanda and Tyler have an instant attraction that neither one of them wants, but a family secret threatens to ruin everything. I love the characters and especially love Bette, Tyler’s spunky grandmother.
Take a Chance on Me by Jane Porter is book 3 in the "Miracle on Chance Avenue" series. I just love stories set in the fictional town of Marietta in Montana and this is no exception. It´s such a sweet story with great characters and a wonderful story-line. Such a well written story with a fast pace flow throughout the story.
3.5 Stars!
I never pass up an opportunity to read a book by Jane Porter. In fact, I don't even read the book's summary prior to requesting or purchasing. Her stories are replete with tangible feelings, three-dimensional characters, and an entertaining plot. Take A Chance is the third book from her Love On Chance series, and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. The first two books in this series are also very good.
Hair salon owner and stylist Amanda Wright grew up quite poor, in the small town of Marietta, Montana. With the exception of the gossip mongers, Mandy is well-liked, talented and a huge community supporter. Bette is one of her best friends, even though she is a feisty eighty year old grandmother. Bette is the perpetual matchmaker, so when her grandson Tyler comes to town, she wastes no time in getting them together.
Tyler Justice is a good-looking but nerdy billionaire. His riches come from gaming and now that he sold his company, he is at a crossroads in his life. He loves his grandmother very much and only wants whats best for her. He is not a fan of small towns, but being involved with Mandy slowly changes his mind.
I liked this book, however I found the pace to be slow at times. The main characters were well-defined and I enjoyed getting to know them. The plot twist at the end was quite exciting, which resulted in cementing Mandy and Tyler's relationship. Overall, a solid read.

Love! Love! Love! I loved reading Take a Chance on Me by Jane Porter, the third book in her Love on Chance Avenue series. Amanda Wright loves living in Marietta and being friends with her client eighty-year old Bette Justice. Bette asked her to help convince her grandson, Tyler, that staying in Marietta is the right place for her and Amanda can’t say no. Tyler Justice, a successful game designer, is determined to take care of his grandmother and believes the young friend she keeps mentioning, Amanda, is taking advantage of Bette and her generosity. Once Tyler reaches Marietta he finds Amanda isn’t who or what he thought and unexpectedly becomes attracted to her. Unfortunately a long-buried family secret might destroy their chance at love.
I really loved reading this book and didn’t want to put this book down, reading it in one day. Ms. Porter is a wonderful story teller and she always draws me into her books, making me forget the world around me. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
