I loved this book. “Take A Chance On Me” is book three in Jane Porter's Love On Chance Avenue series. It was a sweet story about family, love and friendship. It takes place in the small town of Marietta, Montana. You get the dynamics of small town living, neighbor helping neighbor, friends becoming closer than family and obviously your town gossips. The love and concern that Tyler showed for his grandmother Bette was heart warming. The special friendship that Bette and Amanda had formed was very special. I would have to say Bette was quit the character. She knew that Tyler and Amanda were perfect for each other and she was determined to get them together, no matter what the cost. My favorite characters and the one I could relate to most was the two Wright sisters, Amanda and Charity. I enjoyed “Take A Chance On Me” so much I need to go back and read the stories I missed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tule Publishing through NetGalley, Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When Tyler comes to Mandy’s hair salon for a cut she has no idea he is her friends grandson she just knows she is attracted to him, and I was not, took me a while to figure out what his grandma Bette was up to, but that was just part of the of the fun of this delicious read.
My wish is for this endearing love story to be made into a movie, with a fabulous older actress to play Bette and for the movie to have a feel good ending like the book, it left me feeling in the Pink all day! I would love the movie to show the town of Marietta and Tyler and Mandy’s first kiss, first, first dance.
Coming from a somewhat dysfunctional family, from the wrong side of town, the Wright sisters are determined, very supportive of each other and their friends and they are determined to make their way in the world. Amanda Wright has put herself at financial risk to help out her parents but is hard working, independent and sassy, striving to make her hair salon a success and to make her other dreams come true. She won’t accept charity and is fuming when she learns that the grandson of her friend and elderly client, Bette Justice, suspects she has been taking advantage of the octogenarian.
The grandson is Tyler Justice and he’s driven into Marietta with the aim of driving out again, as soon as possible, taking his grandmother with him to his home in Austin, Texas, away from any scheming money-grabbing locals. However, his first undercover encounter with Amanda has him reevaluating his thoughts about her, especially as attraction builds between the two. However, historical secrets will be revealed which could tear them apart . . . .
This is another lovely story set in Marietta, Montana. It has great characters - especially Bette! There are a few surprising twists en route, most of them provided by matchmaker Bette. I liked how Tyler’s initial thoughts regarding Marietta had to be revised and the epilogue is lovely! This is an emotional roller coaster ride and a lovely addition to the Marietta based romances.
I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.
A delightful heart warming romance in my favorite town of Marietta. Amanda, stylist has worked hard for everything she has in her life. She loves her town of Marietta and her clients. Her favorite client is Bette, 80 years young. Bette needs her help to convince her grandson, Tyler that Marietta is the place that Bette wants to place. When Tyler arrives in Marietta, he stops for a hair cut at the salon and things do not go well.
As a the story develops, with Bette meddling into the romance of Amanda and Tyler secrets come out of their past families. Soon Tyler might decide find out why everyone loves Marietta. I think my new favorite color is pink! I highly recommend this story.
This was a sweet small town romance that warmed my heart and left me smiling. The plot is simple but fun and I loved these characters especially Bette Justice, Ty's well meaning meddling Grandma. Maybe it's her name ;) !
Amanda is a hometown Marietta girl and happy with her choice stay right there. She loves the life she's built. It hasn't always been easy considering where she came from but she's put the past behind her and right now life is good. Tyler Justice comes to Marietta to try and convince his stubborn Grandmother to move with him to Austin. He's convinced she's being taken advantage of and he won't have it! Once he meets and gets to know Amanda he realizes he's got it all wrong.
This was a great relaxing read that I'd definitely recommend to everyone.
Take a Chance on Me is a delightful novel with a strong lead woman who earned her independence through strong work and commitment. Amanda Wright grew up in the saddest of conditions on the wrong side of the tracks and has worked hard and long to bring her life into better light and strength. She found a true friend in Bette Justice, older woman who befriended Amanda and has helped her financially to establish her beauty salon. Bette is the supportive woman Amanda so needed in her life. Enter Ty James or Tyler James Justice, Bette’s grandson and skeptic of Amanda’s friendship with Bette. He is in Marietta only to persuade his grandmother to move from her home to Austin where he lives. He is not prepared for the reality of his grandmother: strong, independent, healthy, vibrant. In no uncertain terms is she moving to Austin and leaving her extensive network of friends and activities. In both Bette and Amanda, Ty has met his match. Plus, his misinterpretation of information on Amanda and his preconceived notions of what she is, makes for a long and hard road for Ty, especially when he cannot get her out of his mind!
I always enjoy revisiting Marietta and its characters.
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: Love on Chance Avenue
Standalone
HEA
I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Amanda is sassy and fierce and knows just what she wants out of life and will stop at nothing to get that. When some one questions her integrity she will stop at nothing to prove them wrong. But this time a secret may have taken it to far. Tyler will do everything in his power to protect his grandmother, not he just need to convince her to move with him and then she's close and he can protect her as he sees fit. What he didn't expect was that his grandma is loved by many and it may not be as easy as her thought. Can Amanda convince Tyler that Bette is better off in Montana or will there be something else at play?
Marietta Montana is like your favorite tv show no matter what "new episode" is showing your have to "watch it"/read it so you can find out what's new. You just fall more in love each time. In this book you won't be disappointed, it's the same thing. Wonderful fun characters sucking you into a new story and catching up on some of the older "friends". Yes I do find that this story was a little predictable but honestly it was refreshing in a sense, I also felt like in a way it also kept you guessing some too. I really loved how Amanda and Bette were both vulnerable and open but also independent, strong and fierce. I also enjoyed that this book was a good clean book. There was not strong language and the relationship wasn't centered around sex but trying to find out where the other fit and if it would work. I really enjoyed the relationships between Amanda and her sisters and how they are fighters and willing to hold their heads high no matter what. Overall I had a hard time putting this book down such a sweet love story and well worth the read.

I wish I had connected with Take a Chance on Me, by Jane Porter, but I struggled in multiple ways with this book. Mandy owns a salon and has befriended her elderly client, Bette. Bette’s grandson is coming to town, and he wants to move Bette to Texas with him and away from her beloved small town, Marietta. Bette asks Mandy for her help to convince Tyler that Bette belongs in Marietta.
The plot was predictable in the way most romance books are, as I think the reader understands from the beginning that Tyler will eventually see the charms of the town of Marietta. I wasn’t bothered by this aspect of the story. For me, the whole story felt a little flat. Take the chemistry between Mandy and Tyler, or what was a lack of chemistry in my eyes. I never felt it, not once. Porter wrote it in, but it never convinced me. Moreover, it was all telling and no showing. It didn’t help that Mandy was stubborn in regard to believing Tyler liked her. I’ve never been a fan of that trope. Mandy seemed a bit all over the place in terms of emotions. Eventually it’s her hang-ups that push them apart. The link in their past was weak, inserted to create drama between the couple. It just didn’t feel realistic. In fact, a lot of the push and pull between Tyler and Amanda felt forced and manufactured.
Tyler was ok, a bit of a bully at first, even if his heart was in the right place. He wanted to take care of his grandmother and was concerned about her physical and financial well-being. It's not a stretch to realize he couldn’t initially understand Bette’s emotional well-being was tied to the small town where she’d always lived, but that he would eventually. There was a small amount of character growth in him as he came to terms with Marietta, Mandy, Bette’s needs and his own. I suppose there was a small amount for Mandy too.
I thought Bette would play a bigger role in the story. I guess I wanted a grandmother that added more personality to the plot. I thought she’d be a firecracker but she wasn’t. She was cute, but I think she could have brought a little more attitude to the story.
The story aside, I struggled a bit with the writing. There were odd word choices and phrases that pulled me out of the story while I tried to interpret them. This story was unfortunately a miss for me.
I was frankly, bored with this. Bored because I could see the conflict and the eventual resolution coming, unmoved because I couldn’t feel any chemistry between Amanda and Tyler.
Porter posits Marietta as a small but pretty base where happiness is an almost-guarantee (Tule’s publishing numerous Marietta books attest to it), so it was a given that Tyler would in the end, learn to love the place as Amanda and Bette do…there was no other option available here, because apparently Marietta was the answer to problems, so the man—who apparently is the one with the one-track mind—has to do all the compromising, when it became evident that the whole book centred around getting Tyler to see the beauty of the community that was Marietta.
In fact, I didn’t think Tyler was an arse at all, not when his way of wanting to move his grandmother somewhere else had merit which no one else would see. That Amanda pushed her own issues of her past on to Tyler rather unfairly, or that Tyler seemed to be the one always giving in made it hard to read on, especially when Tyler was the only one made to go on the uphill climb to find his own feet when everyone else sang the happy song of Marietta.
‘Take a Chance on Me’ rubbed me the wrong way early in the book and sadly, I never quite got back that sense of traction or the desire to go on.
When Tyler Justice caught wind of his grandmother's plan to leave an inheritance to a young woman in her town, he knew he had to get to Marietta, Montana fast. But what Tyler found, instead of a conniving gold digger, was a sweet hard working lady who considered his grandmother, Bette, to be one of her best friends.
Amanda Wright was a beauty salon owner with big dreams. When a handsome guy comes in for a cut one day, she instantly becomes friends with him not knowing he is really Bette's son who plans to get her to move to Texas with him. Amanda is devastated when she finds out the truth.
Bette had a plan of her own and she had already set it into motion. She is thrilled when she finds out Amanda and Tyler finally started dating. But, a secret from the past soon threatens their new relationship. Now it's up to Bette and Amanda's family to get Amanda to realize Tyler is the perfect man for her.
This is a heartwarming story that will remind you of the power of love and family and that not all secrets are bad. I really enjoyed this story. The characters felt real with their goals, values and opinions. If you like a sweet small town romance, I would recommend this book.
I loved this book. Another series set in small town Marietta Montana, it couldn't have been better.
The Wright sisters have had a rough go at life, Jenny the oldest has married and moved to Colorado with her husband leaving Charity and Amanda behind. Amanda owns a beauty salon in town, pink!
Think pink here! It's the color that dominates the book. Mandy is the happy one, content with what she's doing and no one but her sister knowing the obstacles she's had to overcome not just during their growing up but lately.
Enter Ty James. Aka Tyler Justice who happens to be Bette's grandson who has swooped into town determined not only to take his Gram back to Austin where he now lives, but to find this Mandy and find out if she's smiling his Gram out of funds. Coming to town early without Bette knowing, he ends up in Mandy's chair under a false name trying to get a feel for this girl, who he's convinced is taking dear old Gram for a ride. Then again he's not so sure. She's so kind and generous and not a bad bone in her body. Tyler is confused. He leaves and heads back to the Graff where he's staying, he left things back in Austin, business is in turmoil and he needs to stay on top of things. Tyler has his own set of issues that keep him hidden away and he buries himself in his work.
Bette comes to visit Mandy that same day after Ty James got his hair cut to tell her about the arrival of the grandson that weekend and Mandy's wheels start spinning. So when she finds out that Ty James is Tyler Justice and explains some of the questions he was asking her when sitting in her chair, she's steamed. She leaves the shop and heads to to hotel where she confronts Ty. The woman is a spitfire.
She's incensed that he even think she'd be or do any of the things that Tyler was not quite accusing her of, but might as well have. For someone who rarely visited his Gram, his sudden interest only peaked when she announced she was changing her will. He's determined to get to the bottom of things with Mandy.
Meanwhile Bette is clueless and invites Mandy over for dinner when Tyler is forced to show up early at Bette's. Mandy is trying to be polite and civil and wow, Bette is no dummy. She's determined to show Tyler how great her life is in Marietta and why she doesn't want to leave. Tyler is so lame. I got pretty angry with him on more than one occasion with his attitude toward Mandy and how he just wanted to upend his Grams life, for no good reason.
The rest of the book unfolds as we watch these two spar, make up, spar, make up and when an unbelievable secret comes out about the past concerning Mandy's mother and Bette's son, Mandy runs. She runs to a secluded spot, to try and sort out her feelings but gets no where. She feels betrayed, judged and all those emotions from the past she's tried so hard to bury that comes rising to the surface. And then there is Tyler. Who last she saw was a real dick to her. Won't be the last time either. Tyler gave me a little whiplash sometimes, but he's a man. I'll say no more.
This is a great afternoon read. Maybe a little predictable, but not really. I enjoyed the heck out of it and loved all the characters. Big thumbs up from me.
The author included an except(brief) from another series about the Sheenan brothers and man I can't wait to get my hands on that one.
Jane Porter has a new fan.
4.5 Stars

Take a Chance on Me by Jane Porter. Book three in the Love on Chance Avenue series a great addition to the series. A heart-warming story of friends, family and possible romance. I look forward to reading more in this series and more by Jane Porter.
The hero, Tyler Justice, starts out as a bit of a jerk. He’s come to Marietta, Montana because he’s worried that his grandmother is thinking of leaving her house to her hairdresser. He thinks that the hairdresser must be scamming his grandmother, but she turns out to be a very sweet, loving woman, Amanda Wright, who truly loves his grandmother.
But Tyler is still determined to move his grandmother from the home she’s loved all her life and all her friends to go to Austin where he works. He has hardly visited her in recent years, but thinks he knows best.
Then what follows a bunch of contrived coincidences with his jobs, he’s back in Montana with a chance for a true romance with Amanda until another contrived coincidence makes her question their relationship for no real reason that makes sense.
I really liked the grandmother and Amanda was a very likeable character even if she got a bit mixed-up for a while. There were just too many times that I felt the author inserting twists just to bring Tyler and Amanda together or push them apart so the book didn’t feel like the plot had a natural flow.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A small town setting and a wary hero, with some pain in his past, and who is suspicious of the heroine and reluctant to fall in love. Tyler and Amanda are quite different people, with unlike backgrounds, but they find themselves attracted to each other.
I liked that it took him time to realize what his priorities were and to win Amanda’s trust. I also enjoyed the literary allusions – in the beginning, Tyler evokes the “darkly handsome and insufferable heroes” of old Harlequins – and the way the author, Jane Porter, managed, against all odds, to create a happy-ever-after for the couple in Marietta.
As with other books written by Ms Porter, I was swept away from the beginning of the story. She has the ability to create characters with such unique personalities that it is difficult not to form an emotional attachment to them...And invest in their own HEA.
Tyler and Amanda were no different in how they drew you into their story. Their chemistry was apparent almost immediately, with the perfect amount of tension to make their introduction to each other more complex then an ordinary start to an inevitable relationship.
I look forward to reading more stories in this series, I know I won’t be disappointed in the story or its characters.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I received an ARC of this book to read from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Take a Chance on Me is book 3 in Jane Porters Love on Chance Avenue series and I am guesstimating one of close to a dozen books that she has written that take place in the small town of Marietta Montana all of which are very enjoyable. This one is the story of Amanda Wright who grew up on the wrong side of town but thanks to support from her sisters and friends is the proud owner of a beauty salon and Tyler Justice grandson of Amanda’s favourite client a successful video game designer. Tyler arrives in town with the purpose of convincing his grandmother to move to Austin with him as he is worried about her being alone and concerned that perhaps she is being taken advantage of by people, Amanda in particular. Sparks fly both of anger and of love but will the past history between their families spoil the HEA they both want? Sweet not steamy, Publishing Date March 15, 2018 #TakeAChanceOnMe #NetGalley
Take a Chance on Me by Jane Porter
This book starts out with Ty James and he has Amanda Wright styling his hair at her salon.
She falls in love with his masculine looks (she and her sister Charity are romance novel addicts).
Later Bette stops in with lunch before her weekly visit and she learns now who Tyler really is-Bette's grandson.
She is able to track him down at The Graff Hotel and lets him know she doesn't like the deception of arriving early and not letting his grandmother know he's in town.
He's a game developer and he learns his grandmother wanted Amanda to show him around town to show how much she loved this area and she's busy in the community.
Love catching up with other characters in the town of Marietta, MT as I've read all the books and other author's works from this area.
Ty is really there because his grandmother wants to change her will to leave everything to Amanda and he just wants to check her out-make sure she's not being taken advantage of.
Ty has to leave due to the tech giant talks but his mind is still on Amanda and Marietta.
Love the idea of the birthday club and what's all involved-prescious!
Like how this book brings it all together full circle with other books and families in the series.
Other works and excerpts from the series are included.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Amanda has always lived in Marietta, struggling not to be labelled like the rest of her family. She is good friends with Bette, and when Bette's grandson Tyler arrives in town she reluctantly agrees to help Bette to get him to fall in love with Marietta.
This is the second book in this seies I have read, it is a short but enjoyable read. The descriptions in the book make you feel like you know the town and its characters.
Amanda Wright is a Stylist in small town Marietta Montana. Growing up not having much she is determined to prove herself as a successful business woman. Her longtime friend and client Bette Justice has always been her biggest fan and client. When Bette mentions changing her will to include Amanda to her Grandson Tyler he drops everything to travel to Montana to see whats going on. When Tyler lands himself a haircut with Amanda he starts to see who she is but still doesn't trust her motives.
I loved this book from beginning to end! It really got into the story without rushing and leaving me with questions. Amanda's character was so vulnerable and likable.
