Melt for You in incredibly good, hysterically funny, and immensely heart-melting. It is even better than Book #1 of this series. I've read it twice since I got my hands on it, if that tells you how much I love it. I'm going to predict right here that the Slow Burn series is going down as one of the most enjoyable EVER. I recommend this whole-heartedly and hope that this makes it to the top of the bestseller lists. Everyone should read it!
Joellen Bixby works at Maddox Publishing in Manhattan and suffers from unrequited love for her boss. She lives in a Manhattan apartment and again suffers, but it's from living across the hall from the most obnoxious neighbor in the world. His name is Cameron and he's ridiculously hot, but he knows it. He is a "rude, boozy playboy with questionable exercise habits" and a "narcissist with terrible taste in music" He's that guy. If that guy can be a rugby-playing Scotsman who is after Joellen in a long game of pursuit.
Joellen and Cameron are perfectly written. I could see how alive they are together. I laughed a lot as I read. I felt the emotion from their hurts, their insecurities, the things that real people feel. I cheered on Joellen as she learned to accept herself and I swooned hard at Cameron. I also loved that this is a slow burn story in the truest sense.
When you read this, make sure to read the author's note after the story. It will add real life to this story and hopefully make all of us mindful of the the way our words can build up those around us.
A sweet story , but a slow burn romance. Joellen frustrated me to no end. She is so insecure that she can't see that there may be someone that is interested in her. She is also crazy to try to seduce her boss when she is in line for a major job promotion. Cameron, though, is the best part of this story. He is a hot rugby playing Scot who is demanding, a prankster, and totally into Joellen. This story does have a HEA. 3.5 stars.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Geissinger is a master of over-the-top emotions (see Burn for You , Sin With Me ). Melt for You lacks that, and in fact, strongly works the slow burn of the series name. It's a very, very slow burn. It also lacks any real outside issues keeping Cam and Joellen apart. It's all self-inflicted issues.
Cam seems to suffer from classic British classism. It's put a massive chip on his shoulder that he apparently has no desire to get rid of. But, by the time Cam's story starts to take shape it's a case of too little, too late. For most of the book he's a monumental arsehole with an ego so big it wouldn't fit into a skyscraper. He's rude, mean, overbearing, and constantly doing things to annoy Joellen. He's the classic bully boy in school just trying to get the attention of the girl he likes. Unfortunately, his constant assertions of "You love me!" don't come across as the insecure, wants-to-get-her-attention type; they come across as egotistical and jerk-y.
Plus, as loud as all that music supposedly was, how is it no other neighbor complained? In fact, where were all the other neighbors? Aside from the older actress down the hall, there doesn't seem to be anyone else around. For a man who is supposedly the uber mensch of sports, he is never bothered, ogled, or otherwise importuned which seems odd. But then again, this is Joellen's story and Cam is... there for her, not nearly as well-developed, and not sympathetic.
Joellen is a doormat: to work, to her family, to her cat, to her neighbors. That is her essence. She's a doormat due to her family's body-shaming which seems to have spilled over into just generally shaming. It's pretty hard to get a handle on Joellen's body, which is conspicuously not described. She's definitely out of shape with little muscle tone and cardiovascular fitness, but that doesn't equal "big".
My biggest issue with Joellen is her fantasy land world. She's so caught up in her fantasy (and has been for 10 years!) that she never questions anything. Her goal is to somehow land Michael, as though that is the only focus her life should have. Seriously, I don't want to know Joellen. She has no hobbies, no interests, no nothing that makes her an interesting character. She's nice to people. That's it.
Things that might have been an obstacle (age differences, totally different tastes in music and other things) are brushed aside as of no importance in the mad rush to the HEA. But the HEA is questionable at best. After all, it's only when Michael is unmasked that Joellen even considers Cam.
Beyond the problematic characters, the plot was a bit too much standard fare. Couldn't Michael have been embezzling from the company instead? Did we really need to go into the territory we did, because honestly, it's been done before - a lot, and better? That last third was disappointing for its lack of imagination. It also had a nasty habit of plodding. This book just lacked that get-up-and-go feeling.
Melt for You didn't rock my world, but it was enjoyable for the most part and didn't have any truly fatal flaws.
Melt for You had me TOTALLY melting the entire time I was reading it. This book was phenomenal! It's only the 2nd book I've read by this author and I actually only stumbled on Book 1 by mistake. If all of the author's stories are as good as these 2, I have to get my hands on her entire backlist.
This book took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. It certainly put me through the ringer. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. This story had it all with lots of laugh out loud moments, social awkwardness, sexy banter and a swoon-worthy hero.
There was also a very strong message throughout that really resonated with me. So many times others, and unfortunately family, are so insecure with themselves that they tear you down which plays havoc on your self-esteem. Which was the case we saw here with Joellen.
This was an amazing story and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I certainly would. I cannot wait to get my hands on more stories by this author.
ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley.
I finished reading Melt For You and I loved it so much that I hope that my review does it justice. I read at least 200 books a year from multiple authors and genres. I spend hours every week at my local library and searching Goodreads looking for new and interesting authors. That is how I discovered J.T. Geissinger. She is so talented and Melt For You is another example of her excellent. It's the story of a woman (and yes she is a 36 year old woman not a girl) that has been listening to society's and her family's ideals of what the perfect woman should look like, what the perfect life should be, who the perfect man would resemble. She is a junior editor for a NYC publisher and lives the lonely life of work, more work and then home to her cat Mr. Bingley. She has unrequited love for her married boss from afar for the past decade. Her life is and endless cycle of nothing new until her neighbor trades places with his rugby playing cousin Cameron from Scotland. At first glance he's a big brute of a man with questionable morals and values. And Joellen is a chubby, plain woman with nothing interesting to offer. But are they really what society thinks they are? Melt For You is written in first person from Joellen's perspective. This book made me laugh out loud, cry, smile and want to yell at Joellen. She is every woman that questions her worth and value based on society's ridiculous expectations. Melt For You will give you laughter, romance and love from a fresh perspective. I received a review copy from Netgalley and this was my freely given, honest opinion..
Joellen has had a crush on the CEO of her firm since she started working there 10 years ago. When Michael Maddox’s marriage is breaking up that far away dream becomes attainable. Can she catch the eye of her perfect CEO? Cameron MacGregor is subleasing the apartment across the hall from Joellen. He is brash, scruffy, and the captain of a pro British Rugby team. Cam is also a big ladies man with a reputation for trouble. He offers to help “coach” Jo into catching her CEO, but quickly realizes that she is the woman he wants and starts to play dirty to keep her.
Finally, a Geissinger hero who is not fighting a darkness in his soul that only his heroine can shine a light on! Don’t get me wrong, Cam has his problems. He didn’t have a great childhood and fought to attain the status he currently has as a pro Rugby player, but he is charming and laughs easily. NOT like other characters in her novels. It was so refreshing and unexpected! Jo, also is unlike her other heroines. She is self described as somewhat plump and average looking, although both Cam and Michael see her very differently. It’s been awhile since Jo has practiced her feminine wiles, so when Cam offers to be her test subject the sparks fly. She spends most of the book being charmingly confused over who she really wants, Cam or Michael. Since this is an HEA we know going in who she’s going to pick, but that journey was really a lot of fun to read!
I loved both Jo and Cam! They each had their own insecurities that they helped each other overcome. Their relationship was fresh, sassy and filled with humor. In comparison, Michael seemed to be a dolt. No competition in my eyes! This Slow Burn series seems to be a stand alone novel as there was no relationship between the characters from book to book. Feel free to pick this up and enjoy! The Slow Burn comes from the build up in their relationship from friends to lovers. I was sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of the conclusion to this novel. ❤❤❤❤❣
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest review and it was honest!
Every book I read leaves an impact on me in some way or another. Melt For You touched me in so many ways that I know I will always reflect on the great message this story carries and how much I loved the experience of reading it.
Joellen is 36, single and lives with her cat. For the last 10 years she has been in loved with her married boss. In her mind he is the definition of perfection. She has been admiring him from afar, hoping that one day he will offer her the slightest bit of interest, just a tiny crumb would be nice.
When someone moves into the flat across the hall with a penchant for playing loud rap music and engaging in very loud sex, the normally placid Joellen decides to take matters into her own hands. She did not expect what awaited her on the other side of the door. A huge, towering, muscular, handsome, kilt wearing mountain of a man. Cameron McGregor.
‘Every ripple and bulge are highlighted – especially the bulge in his crotch. It’s inhumanely large. I’m certain he’s stuffed an elephants’s trunk into his pants. ‘Eyes up top darlin,’ he drawls, catching me staring.’
Cameron McGregor, he is completely mad and in equal measures adorable. I could not stop laughing the moment he opened his mouth and I love how Joellen reacts around him. You know when you are watching a movie and a couple just completely clash, you just know that there is attraction there right? Well these two dance around it like they were trained by a choreographer.
‘I feel like this is a trick to get me to look at your junk.’ He looks insulted. ‘My junk? Cameron McGregor doesn’t have junk. He has family jewels, thank you very much.’
A mutually beneficial friendship forms between Cameron & Joellen as he decides to use his wealth of knowledge, of how to attract a mate, to coach Joellen to grab the attention of her boss. She has huge issues with her body image and self esteem. Her negative self talk plays in a loop inside her mind but Cam is determined to break through it all so she can see just how incredible she is, how he sees her.
‘Wait. You’re offering to teach me how to kiss?’ His smile grows even wider. ‘Who better than the Prince Pantydropper?’
Joellen is completely unaware of how attractive she is, not just in looks, she is kind, thoughtful and has a hidden fire burning inside of her just waiting to take flame. She is beginning to find her voice and her confidence again with the help of Cameron. He brings out the best in her and she is feeling conflicted about what she really wants now. You know that saying ‘be careful what you wish for?’
Joellen made up her own mind about Cameron when they first met, with huge assumptions about him based on nothing factual. The more time she spends getting to know him, she realises that she completely misread and misjudged him. She has read him like a book and discovered that behind the story is a very harrowing prologue that is weighted in grief, carried around by him for years. He has managed to peek through her curtains and she has ripped his wide open. Neither of them have ever felt more vulnerable than they do now.
Also meshed into this story is shepherd’s pie, meatloaf, a martini drinking elderly neighbour, a cat called Mr Bingley and so many laugh out loud moments that I never wanted this to end. And that Scottish accent! I really hope this comes out in audio.
‘A caterpillar becoming a butterfly. Chrysalis shed, wings outstretched, wind beneath my belly. Caught on an updraft. Beating, beating flying free.’
4.5 Stars
Joellen Bixby has a record low self esteem and an eternal crush on the CEO of her company. Unhappy in her self image and more lonely than ever, the cherry on the top of her craptastic life is her new and completely obnoxious neighbor.
Cameron McGregor is a beastly rugby player. Scottish and sexy AF, the minute his new neighbor confronts him, he can't get enough of their mutual discord.
Joellen wants a man she could never dream of having... and Cameron wants to... help her get him? With a completely unlikely attraction and a whole lot of practice kissing, when Joellen and Cameron embark on a unique friendship their sparring quickly becomes something neither of them wants to live without...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I seriously couldn't get enough of this book and the realistically flawed and completely genuine characters I couldn't help but become attached to...
Joellen has been judged by her appearance for as long as she can remember, and her biggest critic is the one who sees herself in the mirror everyday. When she meets her new neighbor they immediately rub each other the wrong way. Cameron is beautiful, full of himself and a complete man whore. But, Cameron treats her and looks at her unlike any man she has ever known.
Cameron is laying low in the US after some drama at home. Meeting Joellen does something for him that no amount of success, parties or random women, ever has. She makes him... happy. With all of her talk of attracting another man, Cameron steps in to help her along her way. And if he can get her to see herself as he and the rest of the world sees her, then he will leave a happy man.
Cameron was the most special and considerate man, wrapped in one a delicious, giant package. Sexy, sweet and incredibly frustrating at times, Cameron and Joellen have a lot of work to do before they find their HEA.
Superbly written and thoroughly entertaining, you must read this slow burn, friends to lovers romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this book. The second book in J. T. Geissinger Slow Burn Series is a definite must read! From Cameron’s pushy, handsome ways to Joellen’s sassy, feisty responses they will have you rooting for them from the beginning. They will test one another like no one ever has before and if they are lucky and give each other a chance they might just find all they are looking for.
Joellen has always been told and felt like she isn’t good enough. She thinks that she is unattractive, overweight and undesirable. But when her neighbor switches apartments with his cousin for a few months she is in for a wild ride. He will not only try her patience but maybe open her eyes to accepting herself for who she is. And help her land the man of her dreams.
Cameron has never met a more infuriating woman than his new neighbor, Joellen. She is always yelling at him, talking down about herself and is in love with a man who will never be good enough for her. But she does have some winning qualities, like her cooking, and when he offers to help her in exchange for her cooking, he hopes he can help her see herself for who she really is.
But when it’s all said and done will he be able to walk away from Joellen?
Really liked this second book in the series. The characters were great and the storyline really kept me wanting more and more. Excited to hear what's next from this author.
With romance novels it,’s usually hit or miss, with soooooo many misses. This one though, is pretty much perfect. From the characters to their witty banter, to the hot sex scenes, I loved it. I will be buying this one so I can read my favorite bits over and over again. J.T. Geissinger has herself a new fan.
I’m sad that I’m writing this review. Soley for the fact that it means I’ve finished Melt For You and I can’t be immersed in the amazing story. I loved Joellen and Cam. Their relationship, banter, and who they both came to rely on each other. Everything about this story I loved. I found ways to read every chance I had. It’s a feel-good novel that has a point. A very serious and important point. There is no room in life for negativity. It’s poisonous. It does so much damage to someone when you try to bring them down; even when it’s unintentional. This book. It was so good. It was smart, sexy, hot and that slow burn was sooo good.
I enjoyed this book so much! I thought I already read the 1st book of the series but apparently, I haven't, yet I didn't have a problem with starting with this one. I love it! Both the Hero and the heroine's lovable, their banter is insanely good and of course, funny as hell. I adore Callum and somehow Joellen is sooo relatable. Because as a fat girl growing up, I definitely realize the undermining scrutiny, especially from family. Though thank goodness mine's so not like Joellen's family. Sure there are times when I feel underappreciated, yet they also support me to the fullest.
I'm glad that Joellen finally finds her happy ending though I was hoping for a better closure between Joellen and her family. Overall, a good story with good writing. Not surprised coming from Geissinger. Can't wait to read more from this series!
Amazing read...I think I’m developing a huge love for slow burn romance – I kinda hate myself it would seem. To get to the first kiss was such a torture but it was so good that i didn't even care by the time we got to that.
This one was one of the best slow burns I have read. Cam and Joellen were so great together – I loved everything about them. From the way he kept helping her to the way she just didn't see what was in front of there. And to say that she was clueless is an understatement of the year. I loved how he kept encouraging her: »Just don't forget who you are. Don't forget what you are Joellen: not for anyone.« and when she doubted that she wasn't “good” enough for him: »You're not a crutch to me, Joellen. You're a gift.« Talk about charming Scotsman – dear God in heaven I wish I could find a man like that – I’d divorce my husband in a heartbeat. DO NOT tell him I wrote that :)
First book by the author and I’m so in love – she found a repeat reader in me.
I really enjoyed Burn For You- my first book by JT.
I jumped at the chance to read this one. I was so lucky to get an ARC for Melt For Me. Scottish Rugby star? Yes please!
The heroine, Joellen lives across the hall from the hero, Cameron.
Cameron is staying in New York during rugby's off season. Cameron's been the target of a scandal. His team and lawyers have advised him to lay low for a couple of months.
Joellen and Cam get off to a rocky start. Cam plays his stereo way to loud. Their first meeting, Cam opens his apartment door to a fuming Joellen. She complains about his party noise. She's stunned to see that he's shirtless and wearing a kilt. Not to mention she notices his muscles and tats.
This is first person POV Joellen, so Cameron, the Scot's POV is not revealed.
Joellen demands that Cameron keep down the noise. He somehow talks her into a trade. Her Shepard's Pie for his lowered volume on his stereo.
Joellen and Cameron have a deal. They spend more and more time at her apartment while she cooks him the shepards pie and other dinners. Cameron and Joellen have a great banter between them. There is NO ow. I'm not sure why some have said that there is.
Their other neighbor, the eccentric Mrs Dinwiddle makes frequent appearances. She seems clueless and kooky, but I have this feeling that she's very aware of the growing between Joellen and Cameron.
Joellen works for a publishing firm in NYC. She's had a secret crush on her boss, Michael. She confides this to Cam. He helps her with a fitness program and tips on how to get Michael's attention. Cam immediately notices Joellen's lack of confidence. He's shocked that she doesn't see how attractive she is. He constantly gets on her case about putting herself down. Joellen reveals that her mom was a super model in her younger days. Joellen's sister followed in their mom's footsteps in the body build and easy success.
Joellen and Cam have a great, easy rapport. They joke with each other. On the other hand, at work, Joellen is a wallflower and very timid about her own abilities. She feels bullied by the uber strong minded Portia.
Joellen and Cam have such a great friendship, I almost forgot about where this would lead. I wanted to yell at Joellen- to wake up and smell the Scotsman. Literally!
I loved Cameron.I wanted to know why he didn't just go all alpha about the two of them?
Yeah, Joellen had to realize for herself. Who did she really care about? Who really cared for her and to recognize her own worth and abilities.
Michael, Joellen's boss seems more metro sexual. A 180 from Cameron. Cameron refers to Michael as "Pretty Boy".
Cameron said what was on his mind:
"Learn to be unapologetic for who you are and what you like and the opinions you hold. I know that if other people considered you beautiful, all your problems would be solved., but you'd just have different problems."
[Cameron to Joellen location 3555, Chapter 26]
I wanted their relationship to take the next step a lot earlier in book.
I was happy with the twists-- When Joellen had her ah ha moment(s)... The ending was fantastic and such a surprise. The epilogue is a little into the future. Loved it.
I took a little off for no Cameron POV & for a little slow middle-but I did get more Joellen & Cameron.
I read the author's acknowledgments. I think that I increased my love for Joellen and her lack of confidence.
I also had my own AH HA moment. I think that I had a lot of negatives thrown at me too. I need to give myself a big pat on the back. There was a lot in my childhood-not just bullying but just believe the BS that gets to a kid. I was learning to focus on the negative. Thanks to JT for this ARC & for this great story. There were some silly., fun moments, but also some great, sexy, sensitive scenes.
For the life of me I could not get into this book. I wanted so desperately to love this book. I adored the one before and couldn’t wait to read this one. I am so disappointed.
The lead characters just didn’t do it for me. I am sooo sick of beautiful woman being stupid with their actions and thoughts. She irritated me beyond words. Soooo stupid!! She was blind to all that was going around her and then at about 90% through she realizes everything she had been missing....don’t buy it and I was too far gone wanting to choke the life out of her.
There is only one other book I didn’t like from this author and that female lead was the exact opposite. Oh well
Others love it....I don’t and I feel sad about it.
Received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley.
How do I begin to express my complete and utter adoration of this book and, most importantly, of Cameron McGregor? I'll admit, I don't really gravitate toward characters with big egos or that are loaded with assholery (I know that's not a word but it fits Cam so I'm making it a word) but there's just something about him! Maybe the image of him in a kilt, shirtless with washboard abs and a sexy brogue or....wait, what was I saying again? Oh. Right. Sorry. I just melted into a puddle just thinking of him. Swoon. The best way to describe Cameron is this magnetic creature that you can't help but like, even when you find him so fucking annoying, you want to hit him.
“You were kicked out of Scotland because you’re so annoying, right? Everyone got together and agreed to throw you out for the greater good of the country?”
You know that moment when water hits hot oil and it pops and sizzles? That's Cameron and Joellen. I can not tell you how many lines I highlighted in this book with the back and forth quips. I busted out laughing more than once and gained quite a few glances on my commute home. I didn't care. These two are hilarious.
"I had a thought"
“Must’ve been a long and lonely journey,” I mutter.
Melt For You is an enemies to "damn you annoy me" to friends to lovers. Yes, I just made up my own trope. This book deserves it. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would do that, too. Just for all the giggles that it provided me.
Joellen is sort of an ugly duckling, her parents and sister these perfect people and poor Joellen is a frumpy, sonnet writing, cat owning woman who doesn't seem to fit in with her family and hiding her unrequited love for her boss. That was a mouth full but a true description. She has this idea that maybe if she lost some weight, she can catch her boss' eye. Enter Cameron with more ego and confidence than healthy but when you look like him, well, kind f hard not to have all that confidence. You could even say he's cocky *wink*.
"I'm an expert at two things, lass." He holds up two fingers for emphasis, as if perhaps I'm unable to count that high. "Rugby, and the art of seduction."
A disbelieving laugh breaks out of me. "Did your parents ever ask you to run away from home?"
But as she starts spending more time with Cameron, she starts to see he is so much more than he first seems. Sweet, sexy, and way too tempting, he changes every misconception she's had of him and even of herself.
“What?” says Cam to me, not looking up from the cat. “You thought I was all beauty and no brains, darlin’?”
I produce an unladylike snort. “More like all ego and no manners.”
He glances up at me from under his lashes and sends me a lazy smile. “So you’re not denyin’ you think I’m beautiful.”
My eye roll is extravagant. “You’re depriving some poor village of its idiot.
I loved this book so much, I can reread it again right now. I've never wanted a book not to end as much as this one.. I want more of these two. I don't care if it's short story or in an email snippet, I just want more. After reading just one of J.T. Geissinger's books, she became an automatic one click and every book a five star read. This book however, is a 5+ star for me, just absolutely above and beyond. Please write more Cameron!!!
"Love is war, darlin'. Only thing in life worth sheddin' blood over."
After finished reading Burn For You—the first book in the Slow Burn series, I kicked myself in the face for not reading J.T. Geissinger sooner. And now after finished reading Melt For You, I'm in love. Stupidly in love with her writing—her characters are warm, they have their own flaws like everyone, but you will find hard not to love them. Their banter is off the charts, and their sizzling chemistry left me feeling breathless. I fell in love with their chemistry from page one.
Melt For You gave me all the FEELS! I swooned, laughed my ass off, got teary, and loved every minute of this enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance written as only J.T. Geissinger can do it—perfect.
"You're not weird. You're unique. There's a difference."
I think my ovaries die of happiness with this book. Cam McGregor was... I don't know how to put it into words, you just really need to meet him. He and Joellen were a match made in heaven. So perfect together, they were like two pieces of a puzzle that just fit.
This is definitely one of those books you didn't want to end and you're already thinking of re-reading it again, and again. J.T. Geissinger is on my auto-buy list now.
If you want a story that will melt not only your heart but your panty parts, this is definitely the book for you.
I love this author books. Because her heroines are badass and those are not easy to find. But this particular one was not and I was disappointed.
Melt for You is the second book in the Slow Burn series by author J. T. Geissinger. We really enjoyed the first book, Slow Burn and also we have enjoyed every book we have read from J. T. Geissinger.
This book had some sweet and funny moments. And hence the name, it is definitely a slow burn romance.But, overall we didn't care for this one as much because we couldn't get past Joellen. She had very low self-esteem and while we understood it at first, it just became too much and took away from the story.
