The fourth outing for Lottie Parker and I honestly think this one is the strongest in an already strong serieqs. A brilliant, captivating read.
We are back with Lottie in her home town of Ragmullin. A girl has gone missing and a body is found in a freshly dug grave just as a funeral is about to take place. Could this be the missing girl? As another girl goes missing and the cases shows similarities to events that happened in the town a decade ago Lottie realizes she may have a serial killer on her hands. Under immense pressure from a new boss who has it in for her can she find out what is happening to these girls and what, if any connection it has to a cold case from a decade ago. A case her outgoing boss told her to look into before leaving.
Well, this was a brilliant read. Utterly captivating from the first page to the last. There is so much to take in and enjoy in this story. The main story arc of course but also Lottie’s family life, her professional and personal relationships with her team, creepy locals and families, colleagues families and stories... it’s a multilayered novel. A big cast of characters, I’m usually one for losing track of who’s who easily if there are a lot of characters but not once did I have to backtrack my reading to check who a certain character was. Everyone was so well and clearly written that I knew exactly who I was dealing with at every stage when they reappeared in the story. A real mark of excellent and captivating character writing.
The main story itself is great with a very satisfying conclusion and a brilliant journey in between. I love the character Lottie. She’s narky, can be short with people, pops pills and drinks too much as she struggles to juggle all the aspects of her life with her all consuming job. Perhaps some might find her abrasive and unlikeable but I’ve had total empathy for her since the first novel and find her a really likeable character who I’m always rooting for.
These books are on the longer side for this genre I’d say, at around or just under 500 pages per novel where 300-350 pages seems the standard. They don’t feel long though and need those pages to paint the world that you are drawn into fully. I flew through this one and actually slowed down for the last few chapters as I didn’t want it to end such was my enjoyment.
I can’t over emphasize how much I enjoyed this book. The strongest for me in an already very strong series, it’s my read of the year so far and I think it will take some beating. The only downside is now I will have a wait for book five!
Five of the strongest stars. If you have read this series up until this one then you are in for a real treat here. If you haven’t read any of the series then I strongly advise you to get invested in the world of Detective Lottie Parker and the town for Ragmullin. You will be venturing into one of, if not the strongest series out there at the moment in this genre.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Patricia Gibney for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another book in this series that I enjoyed. Lottie just seems like a real person with her family and issues . Besides that she is a great detective with a solid team. Love her interactions with other personnel on the force and in the crime unit. She has a dry sense of humour which I like . The crime story of missing young women is thrilling to read as well. Lots to ponder as these girls go missing . A book of secrets and what can happened when families do try to keep secrets. Amazing read. Thanks Netgalley.
Dark, creepy, and intense!
Women are being abducted from the train station in Ragmullin. A body of a young woman is found buried in the cemetery. Cries of a banshee are heard late at night. These are just a few of the events that DetectiveLottie Parker and team investigate in No Safe Place.
This installment is a little different from the other books in the series. The case plays a larger role than it has in past--in other books, it has been a pretty even split between the case and Lottie’s personal life, but in No Safe Place the case gets more attention than Lottie’s drama. Lottie’s children usually play a huge role, but they were more in the background this time around vs. adding to the mess that has become Lottie Parker’s life. With that being said, I didn’t find the case to be as compelling as some of the ones that take place in previous books. There’s actually fewer graphically violent scenes which was refreshing (but there are still some horrible moments, as the violence hasn’t gone away completely). Also different is rather than the focus be on Lottie’s family dynamics, there’s a focus on Boyd and his relationship with his sister, Grace.
Lottie Parker’s character is the reason to read this series. She is once again a hot mess, and while I love her, I am starting to get frustrated with her. I also would like to the will they/won’t they with Lottie and Boyd to be resolved one way or the other. I would love for her character to grow, even just a little bit. In addition to her usual demons, Lottie’s boss is out on medical leave and she must contend with his stand-in who has it out for her.
Overall, No Safe Place is another satisfying installment in the Lottie Parker series. I especially loved learning more about Boyd. The ending leaves room for some interesting possibilities. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Lottie--I can’t imagine that she won’t make stupid mistakes, but I do hope that she gets to experience a little bit of happiness!
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Bookoutre in exchange for an honest review.
No Safe Place is book 4 in the Lottie Parker series and what a fantastic read it is! I have enjoyed this whole series and I think each book gets better and better.
The words that first spring to mind are Bloody Brilliant! I loved it.
This book had me gripped right from the start, it was fast paced, full of energy and the action kept coming. Lottie is a woman on the edge, she is just about coping with life with the help of her pills but like a Rottweiler with a bone she doggedly investigates these crimes and doesn’t let up until she starts to see results.
I love the setting of this book, I can picture the small Irish town in my head as Lottie races round solving crimes. I did have some trouble with some of the Irish names, I have no idea how to pronounce them so as I was reading I probably had them all wrong in my head.
I do think that this book could be read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the series from the start. You will get the background on Lottie and her team and anyway the books are great so you should read them!
I am going to give No Safe Place a big fat 5 stars, it really deserves it, it’s an entertaining read full of edge of the seat tension that you won’t want to put down.
I really enjoy reading the books in this series. The characters are like familiar friends now and I love reading about Lottie and her family.
Lottie is still a hot mess but she manages to solve cases and function at work. I'm not sure how she does it, but she does. In this novel, the case is twisted and there's almost nothing to go on so Lottie and her team have their work cut out for them.
I'm really hoping that we start to see some personal growth in Lottie in the next installments, she has been skating by for a long time and it's time she stopped.
I look forward to the next book in the series...
This book was an unusual read for me as it is book 4 in a series and so I was not sure if this would spoil the book as I was unaware of previous events surrounding the main character, it didn’t......but it did make me want to read the previous 3 books!!!
I really enjoyed this book, one of those books you pick up and feel at peace with as you know its well written, you love the writing and characters and you settle down to a fine read
The book is all about a murder, 2 women going missing, a 10 year disappearance of a daughter that was unsolvable and a family with secrets..... all is it set in Ireland and is based around Lottie who is a detective, there are many sub stories cleverly woven into the main story that all ‘fit in’ and all make the book even more dramatic and riveting
The writing flows well and the style
of writing is easy to follow and enjoy, the characters are a wonderful array of everything human life has to offer from the sassy gypsy grandmother to the violent nasty pair of brothers who feature as main characters
Although the book is great to read it is dark, very dark in parts and there are sensitive subjects that are covered, it is to the authors credit how the book handles these topics
I really loved every page and the ending was as horrific as it was surprising!!!
I have found a new author andI look forward to reading previous books by her
A superb read that transports you over to Ireland and makes you realise why you love reading
10/10 5 stars
I had not read the first three books in this series but it was perfectly easy to read as a standalone. There were obvious references to things that had happened in previous books for example Lottie getting stabbed, her finding out about her families past and her relationship with Father Joe. Knowing more about these things may have enhanced my reading but it really didn't spoil anything. A great crime read with many sub plots that kept me gripped enough to stay up into the middle of the night to finish it! I guessed probably two thirds through who the culprit was but I was still eager to turn the pages to find out how it was going to end. Lottie was a strong character and the things going on in her personal life and the rest of the team will hopefully be followed through in future books in the series. I did rather want to punch McMahon though!!
Fabulous read. A great addition to a great series. Lottie & Boyd and Co. have to solve the case of a missing woman but could it be linked to a ten year old unsolved case.? Cracking main plot, at one time I had three suspects in mind. Sub plot gets better and better as Lottie’s personal life get more complicated

I've been hooked to the Detective Lottie Parker series ever since I read the first book, reading each one as soon as it's available. There is just something about this series that makes you want more. And I think this has a lot to do with both the writing style, the setting in Ragmullin (a town that feels authentic even though it doesn't really exist) and of course the plot, it's many twists and the main characters. Sure, things can be said about Lottie Parker's broken personality and complicated past being a cliche, since most detectives out there have the same description, but she has really grown on me and I like her style. The books of this series have been consistantly solid and No Safe Place is no exception to this. I found myself completely hooked right from the first chapter and literally finished it in less than a day. The writing style draws you right in and the fast pace of the plot and the many many plot twists and constant action and new discoveries will keep you on the edge of your seat. As always, the plot of No Safe Place was complex and well developed, having many different layers and little hints and twists that will have you guessing until the very end. Because while I had some vague ideas about what could be going on, the ending still came as a surprise and I definitely didn't see a lot of the twists and details of the case coming. I also really liked the mix of the official investigation with things that were happening in Lottie's personal life; it makes the story more human and easier to relate. The final reveals definitely left me wanting for more! I will be looking forward to book five to learn more... No Safe Place was without doubt another highly successful and intense detective thriller.
If you are looking for a well written, fast-paced and intense detective thriller series with a consistent quality and complex and well developed plots, Detective Lottie Parker will be a perfect fit for you. No Safe Place has another intense and complex investigation with many layers and twists to keep you guessing and entertained. I had my guesses, but didn't find out the full truth until the very end and I was wrong in many occasions. I just love it when a story is able to mislead me! No Safe Place was another excellent detective thriller and I will already be looking forward to the next book.
I absolutely loved Patricia Gibney's previous Lottie Parker series and this one definitely didn't disappoint!! A member of the travelling community hears a scream one night coming from the cemetery. Could it be a banshee?? But then a girls body is discovered at the bottom of an open grave during a funeral!! Enter Lottie Parker and of course Boyd! Girls are disappearing after travelling on a train. Will Lottie discover what's going on before many more deaths?? As well as the criminal and suspension around the crimes, on a lighter note we have lotties personal lifeand her up in the air relationship with Boyd. Absolutely brilliant read. Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. I honestly can't wait for the next one. Hurry please.

Shout it out loud, for everybody who loves good Police Thrillers, DI Lottie Parker is back
The book starts with bad news for Parker's boss which means even worse news for Parker, she's is in for a hard time at work. Things at home are no better either as she comes to terms with the revelations about her own parents and tries to deal with her own kids.
So, when a case comes along that will test her, and her team, Lottie is already on the edge.
A naked woman is killed as she runs naked from her assailant through a grave yard.
Is she the same woman that has gone missing from the commuter train which ferries people between Ragmullin and Dublin?
Lottie and her DS, Boyd, are looking into the missing woman when a member of the travelling community reports hearing screams coming from a graveyard in the middle of the night. When they go to investigate they find a body in a grave that is about to be used for a funeral.
The case strikes a strong resemblance to an unsolved missing persons case from 10 years ago. Could they be connected?
As the team start to investigate the death a series of suspects come into the frame, and the beauty of this book is those suspects. Patricia Gibney has written a complex who-done-it based around the death of the woman in the graveyard. Three members of the same family; Paddy, the husband of Bridie, the traveller who reported the screaming; an ex-boyfriend, and the strange station manager for the local train station, all get looked at during the inquiry.
Gibney has woven a tale of half-truths and lies, but who is lying about what. Have they all got something to do with the murder, or have they all just got guilty little secrets that they don't want anybody else to know.
All the time the investigation is continuing another woman is being held captive. The team don't know it, but they are racing against time to identify the killer whilst the captive is still alive.
While investigation is taking place, Lottie is fighting her attraction to a colleague. She desperately needs some comfort, and somebody to show her a bit of affection, but is he the right person to do it. And as long as she resists human comfort there is always the spectre of alcohol and strong prescription drugs hanging over her.
With her new boss is out for her, a new journalist is in town and she is on a witch hunt which seems to be targeting Parker
Can she function properly?
Can her team solve the case?
Can she keep her job?
This book is a compelling read that kept me turning page after page with an anticipation that bordered on addiction.
Patricia Gibney has created a great cast of characters with DI Lottie Parker at the centre. Her team, her family, the witness and suspects she interviews are all very realistic characters. They all have their own stories that knit perfectly with the main story.
I can't help investing in the main characters in the book, so much so that at one time I actually felt like giving one of Parkers daughters, Chloe, a good shake.
This book can be read as an excellent stand-alone novel. But to get the best out of it I would highly recommend the other 3 books in the series.
Then, like me, you can sit back and eagerly await book 5.

A body is found in a freshly dug grave that shouldn’t be there. Lottie Parker and her team investigate.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of No Safe Place, the fourth novel to feature DI Lottie Parker of the Ragmullin Gardaí.
Lottie and the team are thinking about looking for 25 year old Elizabeth Byrne who may have disappeared from the train station when Bridie McWard reports hearing screams from the graveyard two nights before. Lottie is the only one taking it seriously but even she doesn't expect to find an extra dead body in a grave, just as they are lowering the coffin. When more young women go missing Lottie is drawn to look at the cold case of Lynn O'Driscoll who disappeared in similar circumstances 10 years previously.
I thoroughly enjoyed No Safe Place which is a fast paced procedural with plenty of twists and turns. The plot is convoluted with Lottie and the team going down several blind alleys before reaching a solution but it is all well explained and logical so I never felt lost or out of my depth. The reveals come slowly but at a steady pace so I was gripped from start to finish. The unknown perpetrator makes the occasional appearance but without any hints to his identity it whets the appetite to better understand his motivation. It's all very well done.
It is Lottie Parker, however, who makes this series so special. She is a widow with three teenage children and a grandson living with her so with that and the job there are never enough hours in the day. Her life is fairly disorganised and chaotic at times but she never stops caring or trying her best and it makes her recognisably human. She is a wonderful creation and one of the best characters in crime fiction for it. I would really like to see things go her way for a change.
No Safe Place is a great read which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Detective Lottie Parker is called in to investigate one of her most bizarre cases yet. a body has been found lying at the bottom of a freshly dug grave. Could it be Elizabeth Byrne, a woman police have been looking for since her disappearance days before? Then two more women disappear, and whispers of a serial killer begin. With a new boss, and a public screaming for answers, Lottie and her team will have to work fast. Even as Lottie wonders if she might be the next victim, she must do everything in her power to ensure no one else is killed
Once again an outstanding book from my favourite author. I couldn’t wait to read the next instalment in this series and it did not disappoint. I loved it!!! Straight away I was engrossed in the storyline, I read it in one sitting. The plot was brilliant and the characters Lottie and Boyd were as compelling as ever. Five stars!! Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Patricia Gibney for the copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.
