This book is everything a psychological thriller/mystery should be! The author created characters that are well developed and a plot that moves along quickly! I found myself completely immersed in this one! Highly recommend!
It often amazes me how authors can come up with bad guys who are so damn crazy that they spend incredible amounts of time planning and executing, if you will pardon the pun, bad things including murder. Their obsessive focus and attention to detail make me wonder when they have time to even eat.
This story has one of those, it can take a while to figure out who it is, and once you do, the motivation kinda sorta makes sense.
There is some exquisite cruelty here and is partially resolved towards the end. As always, murder has a way reverberating among families and friends and this does in a little surprising way.
4.5 stars
How have I not heard of this author? Gone Daddy Gone was an exciting fast paced mystery/suspense filled with plenty twists and turns. I read the blurb and had to read this story as well as the rest of the series from the start (which I want to catch up on). Sloane is an exciting heroine who has to investigate the murder of her lover's college aged daughter. Soon, she also has to step up the investigation when Cade is shot as well. The story grabbed me from the start and I wish I had known about this series sooner!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC copy.
Great action filled mystery! I liked the characters and the mystery of who the killer was, had an interesting twist you didn’t see coming. I have read the other Sloan books, and this was a great addition to the series.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the seventh book in the Sloane Monroe series. Shelby McCoy, the only daughter of Cade McCoy, spent Christmas break with Cade and Sloane, who is seeing Cade. Right before Shelby left, she had an argument with her father and didn't leave on good terms.
Shelby returns to Salt Lake City, where she knows she didn't tell her father or Sloane the entire truth and has some hidden secrets. As Shelby is walking along a snowy path in a park, she hears her name called. She is chased by an unknown assailant, and given one last time to call her father, which goes to voice mail.
After a young girl shows up, requesting to speak to Sloane, and divulges some information. Sloane starts to investigate looking for someone in Cade's past set on revenge. The truth may be much closer than thought, and a long buried secret will be revealed.
A fast paced, enjoyable thriller!
This was a good murder mystery that kept my attention from beginning to end. I liked the characters and even though this was my first time reading a book in this series I didn't feel as though I was missing anything.
The book begins with Sloane Monroe walking home on a snowy winter morning. She hears a tree branch crack...and then another. She realizes that there is a man following her, whispering her name..
Sloane Monroe is a character who has appeared in six previous books by Cheryl Bradshaw. I have never read any of the other books, but after reading this one, I want to start at the beginning of the series and read them all. This is definitely a book I would recommend, but I think it would have been even better if I had read the complete series in order.
Shelby McCoy is walking home between classes when she is shot and killed. A short time later her father, Cade, is shot in the head. Cade's girlfriend of a few years, Sloane Monroe, P.Í., along with the local police, are fast on the scene to try and catch the shooter before any more of Cade's family or friends are killed or injured.
As I was reading Gone Daddy Gone, I was truly kept in suspense. What really got me was the twist at the end. As a matter of fact, I hadn’t read more than three or four pages before I realized that I wanted to read the entire series. So I took a little time and did just that before continuing. I’m glad that I did, because I was able to fully connect with all of the characters in this series. I definitely look forward to reading more Sloane Monroe Mysteries.
Although this is the first book I have read by the author, it is the seventh in a successful series featuring a P.I. called Sloane Monroe.
It begins with an attempted abduction resulting in murder and with a playing card left with the body. More attempted murders follow and, in each case, another playing card is left at the scene.
Maybe one needed to have read the earlier books to appreciate this one. I found it hard to engage with the characters or the story and it took me ages to read it. The opening chapter was quite promising but thereafter the plot failed to grip me with any kind of urgency or real interest. The style also seemed more suited to the romantic genre and it was not unfortunately to my taste.
Definitely loved the beginning aspect; girls go on one fun trip and one gets taken. This book suckered me in and held my attention well enough. There were a few parts I was meh about but overall it was a good novel.
This book gets all the stars! I haven’t read the other books in the series and I had no trouble following along. This book tore my heart out at times. It’s an emotional angst ridden book. There’s a lot going on with the characters. It was a very enjoyable book.Received an advance review copy in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley.
Fast moving thriller with some twists. Good characters with interesting back stories.. An enjoyable read.
This book was wonderful. I actually read it all in one night. I just could not put it down. Every time I thought I had hit a stopping point the next sentence hooked me back into the book. So it got read in one night so let that be a warning for you.
The characters are very well written and "real" enough you actually want to cry at the deaths and smile high points in the story line. I didn't even figure out who the villain was until Cheryl Bradshaw informed the reader. That is a rare thing for me. Even my guesses were wrong and that surprised me.
If you enjoy enthralling, can not put down, mysteries then this is a book for you to read. If I could not put it down then it has to be good. I normally do not have that problem with any books I read. I will definitely be looking into more books by Cheryl Bradshaw to add to my library.
This is a great mystery. The characters are very believable and the story has lots of twists and turns. The ending is a huge surprise that you will never see coming. This is a book in a series and I can't wait to read the next one.
This is the first I have read in the Sloane Monroe series and while starting in book 7 might not be the best idea this author knows how to pull reader in right away.
This is not a stand alone novel but readers just starting off can get a pretty good idea who everyone is with a little time.
The characters are very interesting even though they are many to keep track of and one to many C names. What I liked best about Cheryl Bradshaw even the secondary characters have a reason and a purpose to the story.
The author keeps readers guess who the killer is and she won't give anything away until the author is reveals the person.
Starting in book 7 wasn't the best idea but the author is able to pull this reader in with a fast pace mystery that has me wanting to go back and read the 1-6.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Kobo Writing Life for the advance copy of Gone Daddy Gone by Cheryl Bradshaw
Great fast paced action filled murder mystery! I liked the characters and the mystery of who the killer was, had an interesting twist you didn’t see coming. I enjoyed this book and would be into reading the previous books in this series.

A good story. A well rounded mystery with interesting characters. I didn't know it was apart of series when I grabbed it, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone even though you know you are missing some background information, it still works.

I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
College student Shelby McCoy is walking along a snowy park path, when she senses someone is behind her. She makes a panicked attempt to call her father, who doesn’t answer the phone, before an arm wraps around her neck and she is shot in the back and left to die. Beneath her body, a playing card, the ten of hearts, is found.
Private Investigator Sloane Monroe is with Shelby’s father, Police Chief Cade McCoy, when he receives word that his daughter has been killed. In the midst of attempting a marriage proposal to Sloane, he drops what he’s doing and the couple heads to Utah, to learn what they can of the investigation. Shortly thereafter, Cade, too, is shot, and a jack of hearts is left at the scene.
As Cade fights for his life, Sloane and Utah law enforcement attempt to solve the killings, but clues dry up, and potential suspects are alibied. Then a third attempt takes place, and Sloane begins to suspect, it may not be Cade for whom the shooter is revenging a wrong, but Sloane herself. But whom? And why?
Detectives review Sloane’s old case files, looking for answers, when yet another person goes missing, this one also near and dear to Sloane’s heart. But will she find the answers in time??
The book captures your interest in the first few paragraphs and will keep you engrossed until the very last page! I read this cover to cover in one sitting as it was just too good to put down! I have read all the Sloane Monroe novels, and I eagerly await more! Great, easy read!!
