Thanks to netgalley.com and Serial Box for the advance copy for my honest review.
"Trails of Evidence", is the seventh installment of a series that, will total 11 episodes, that makes up False Idol, Season 1 and the author varies with each episode.
Remember the easy button ads, feel like the author pressed it with this one. You have a couple of things that happen, which require some more detail in explanation and just left it lacking compared to the other episodes in this serial.
Perhaps have Layla get woken up by Pierce's text, after a night of passion with James. Have her sneak out, she grabs the files from the kitchen, brings stuff to shower and change of clothes and goes to the safe house. Just leave it with that, add more detail to it verse being vague, keep she's disappointed, upset she's left behind in Cairo, while they do the sting in Singapore and has to make notes of everything she see's on the computer screen.
Leave out the dinner party or Mackey threatening to leave both Bennett and James alone, that he's onto her and she up to no good. Easily could have been added into the next episode.
In all at this point your hooked into finishing False Idol series and learn how Layla el-Deeb makes out.
The Series didn't really hook in me so I won't be reading the rest of them!
Thank you Netgalley and Serial Box for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
After having a small fight with James at the end of Ties that Bind, Layla is a little shook up. James' bodyguard Mackey, is on to Layla and she wanted to make a clean break. James was not going to make it easy for her because he professed his love to her and she to him. After waking up in bed next to him the next morning, she quickly hid case files that incrimanated James' father, Bennett. After lying to James again to make a quick getaway for work, Layla finds it increasingly hard to handle work and personal life with him.
Her boss Pierce had her listen in on a bust that she had been hoping to be a part of. After not getting much info, Layla headed off to meet Alfredo to find out what he had learned since they had been to the dig site. While waiting, Layla receives a frantic call from her sister telling her that her brother had been arrested. After trying to bribe his way out and asking Pierce to get him out, Layla had no other options other than to turn to Bennett. She made up a story saying Rami was the son of her housekeeper and like a brother to her. Bennett pulled some strings and was able to get Rami transferred to a hospital instead of going to prison. Layla may have messed up with involving Bennett, but we shall see in the next episode if helping her brother comes back to bite her. While at the hospital, Layla hears the news on the television and her ears perk up when she hears that an Italian journalist has been found dead. She feared the worse and the worse came true. Alfredo had been killed.
Another episode in this spy-thriller that features Layla el Deeb trying to figure out where the money supporting the Muharib terrorist organization originates from. Layla has gotten close to one of the suspects through his son James. This episode starts out with Layla waking up after their first night together. Layla has received a message from her handler, Pierce, to go to the safe house.
Upon arriving at the safe house, Layla realizes she has been left behind by Pierce and a team who are investigating a warehouse operation in Singapore where stolen artifacts are being transported through. Layle is tasked with watching the operation on a live feed to monitor and take notes of the encounter with the warehouse company’s owner.
After returning home from the encounter, Layla is called by her sister and is told that her brother, Rami, is in jail after a student protest at the university he attends. After visiting her brother in jail and seeing that he has been beaten and left with a broken arm, Layla leverages her contacts in her undercover persona to get her brother out of jail and into a local hospital. It will be interesting to see how the FBI handles this, if they find out.
The intensity of the story continues to build with the ending of this episode where Layla finds out her journalist friend is dead at the hands of the terrorist group.
I am really enjoy the storylines and the building of the relationships and family around Layla.
