Lija Fisher’s middle-grade debut The Cryptid Catcher is a fast-paced, exciting adventure. Kids will love learning about the different cryptids - some familiar like the Yeti and Loch Ness Monster, and others I’d never heard of, like the Otterman. I enjoyed the unique twist on a well-loved fantasy trope, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with Clivo and the gang in the sequel! Clivo is a main character you can’t help loving - he’s like a young Indiana Jones - and the supporting cast, kids who are not normally portrayed as heroes, are given the spotlight. I found myself constantly changing my mind about whether some characters were good or bad as the story progressed. The Cryptid Catcher is a fun, rollicking mystery-adventure that 3rd-6th graders will love.

This was pretty good. I have a soft spot for cryptid books. The idea of cryptids is pretty cool, and I like reading about them. Clivo was a strong character. I want to read more about everyone in the book.
