This latest installment in Carolyn Haines series brings a tale of witchcraft to the Mississippi Delta. Our PIs have their own personal dilemmas to contend with, one want to consummate her relationship with her town sheriff, and the other hoping for magic to bring her a much desired baby. The sisterly witches are trying to bring a new school to the Delta much to the chagrin of the town alpha. A wily cast of eccentric characters and pets along with a cameo or two from resident ghost Jitty make for an entertaining tale.
Sarah Booth Delaney and her best friend Tinkie run the Delaney Detective Agency and they have been hired to find some dirt on 3 new members of their community. A trio of wiccans, Faith, Hope and Charity, have moved to Zinnia Mississippi to open a school. When people start dying and huge claw marks are found everywhere, people assume the 3 Harringtons have conjured up some sort of dark force and Sarah Booth and Tinkie are determined to get to the bottom of it.
This book was a very fun read. The plot kept you guessing and the characters were lively, especially Sarah Booth's own ghost who likes to make appearances dressed as witches from well known movies and TV shows.
There are 18 books in this series but each time a new one comes out it feels fresh and unique. In this story private eyes Sarah Booth and her BFF Tinkie have been hired to investigate 3 wiccan sisters who have come to town to open a private school. The investigation becomes much more serious when pranks turn into murder.
The story started out fun and then became frightening. It was fast paced and had some very surprising twists. If you like scary parts in your mysteries this is a good 5 star read.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have read all the previous books in this series, and this is a great addition. It is always so much fun to visit Sarah Booth, her resident ghost Jitty, and the whole usual cast of characters.
In this installment 3 self proclaimed witches move into a house with the intention of starting a boarding school, and soon after strange things start to happen and people begin to die mysteriously. Are these ladies using their powers for evil, or is someone else just trying to make it look that way?
This book had some unexpected twists and turns that made it even more entertaining to read, and as usual, I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens in the continuing saga of Sarah Booth’s convoluted love life.
Sarah Booth Delaney is as charming as ever in this mystery. Unpredictable and fun, Haines never disappoints her readers.
I’ve read all of Carolyn Haines’s Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries, and I’m glad to say her new one is great. A trio of self-proclaimed witches intends to start a Wiccan boarding school in Sunflower County, Mississippi, and of course members of the Anti-Satan League are out demonstrating. But how many of those members have an ax to grind, and want that same property for development? Secret passages, murders, spells, and poison add to the drama, and the familiar characters are always a joy to revisit.
Did not read because I didn't realize it was #18 in a series that I have never read nor heard of before. I will try book one sooner or later.
I love witch themed mysteries and this one didn't disappoint. Well done as all the ones I've cherry picked in reading in this series have been. Love the characters and the author always keeps you guessing. One of these days I'm going to end up with the whole series, but this is definitely one of my favorites.
I received a free copy of Charmed Bones: a Sarah Booth Delaney Mystery by Carolyn Haines in exchange for an honest review. Sarah and her friend Tinkie Richmond are private detectives in the small town of Zinnia, Mississippi. The town is in an uproar because witches have moved in and have announced their intent to open a Wiccan boarding school. The witch hunt begins with accusations of kidnapping and with organized protests. When a local artist, who was the center of a property dispute between the witches and a local real estate developer, is found dead who is responsible? Was it the witches, the developer, a wronged lover, or someone else?
I haven’t read any of the other books in the series, but, even at number eighteen, the author did a good job of connecting a series novice to the characters. The characters were likeable and quirky. I enjoyed this mystery

Even after seventeen (and a few novellas in between) stories, the Sarah Booth Delaney series continues to provide an entertaining mystery which weaves a wonderful story with the “Who Done It?” a complete surprise. The ending is guaranteed to leave you thinking, "Wow, I didn't see that coming!"
In addition to its intricately delivered mystery, the story’s impressively original cast of characters (including Sarah Booth et al.) created another layer to the story which served to keep the me guessing up to the very end...one thing I've learned about this author's stories, they accomplish whetting my Sarah Booth Delaney appetite for more. The next installment cannot come soon enough. Satiated
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Sarah Booth Delaney and Zinnia, Mississippi return in this story about three sisters, Faith, Hope and Charity, who plan to open a Wiccan boarding school in the small southern town. That doesn’t sit well with some residents of the town, especially since the property they plan to use for the school would be worth a lot more to the town if sold to the “proper” buyer. When a teenage boy vanishes, residents are only to happy to blame the sisters for his disappearance. Sarah Booth and her P.I. partner Tinkie are on the case, and they quickly find the boy, unharmed. But the townsfolk are restless and Sarah Booth can’t help but worry that a Salem type hysteria is sweeping her beloved town. I love this series, from Sarah Booth herself, to the ghostly (and fashionable) Jitty, to her hounds and her horse. Southern mayhem with a smirk
