I loved this book but can only give it 4 stars because I believe it needs a trigger warning for a potentially difficult subject matter. I am however a bit torn because I loved the story once I was able to push past it and I am not sure I would have chosen to read it had I been aware of this particular aspect of the story.
I was immediately intrigued by the 1950s backdrop and it really makes this story work so well. The characters are far from run of the mill stereotypes and I enjoyed the quirky dysfunctional Layla once I delved beyond my initial reaction to some of her behaviors. But there is an unexpected sweetness to this story about two damaged souls finding each. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
