Synopsis: Private investigator Eddie Shoes heads to a resort outside Leavenworth, Washington, for a mother-daughter getaway weekend. Eddie’s mother Chava wants to celebrate her new job at a casino by footing the bill for the two of them, and who is Eddie to say no? On the first morning, Eddie goes on an easy solo hike, and a few hours later, stumbles upon a makeshift campsite and a gravely injured man. A forest fire breaks out and she struggles to save him before the flames overcome them both. Before succumbing to his injuries, the man hands her a valuable rosary. He tells her his daughter is missing and begs for her help. Is Eddie now working for a dead man? Barely escaping the fire, Eddie wakes in the hospital to find both her parents have arrived on the scene. Will Eddie’s card-counting mother and mob-connected father help or hinder the investigation? The police search in vain for a body. How will Eddie find the missing girl with only Eddie’s memory of the man’s face and a photo of his daughter to go on? Book 3 in the Eddie Shoes Mystery Series, which began with One Dead, Two to Go.
I always find myself jumping into the middle of series lol. This time I found myself in the third book of the Eddie Shoes Mystery series and for the most part I thought it was really good. I thought the mystery/thriller aspect of it was good and the characters were well developed. I felt I could follow along even though I jumped into the series in the middle. I felt the writing was also well done and overall I felt it was a book any reader could enjoy over and over again.
However, I felt that there was more romance than thriller at times and this kind of saddened me. I’m not a huge mystery fan and I’m going through a non-romance period, so it might just be me personally.
Verdict: A thriller you can jump into at any point and enjoy.
Bellingham PI Eddie Shoes goes on a weekend getaway with her mother Chava to a resort outside Leavenworth, Washington. Eddie decides to go on a solo hike and ends up finding an injured man at a campsite. A forest fire breaks out and Eddie tries to save him and herself before the flames overcome them both. But before dying, the man hands Eddie a rosary and photo claiming his daughter is missing and begs for her help. Barely escaping the fire, Eddie wakes in the hospital to find both her parents there. The police have not been able to find the man's body. Eddie decides to do her own sleuthing with the help of her parents. The pace was a bit slow as the bulk of the story focused on the challenges of finding the murdered man's identity and that of his daughter. But this was another enjoyable entry in the Eddie Shoes mystery series.
I received an eARC via Netgalley and JKS Communications with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
The author has given us a wonderful PI by the name of Eddie Shoes, and from the get go we get non-stop action, and you have to wonder if she going to make beyond a few chapter.
Now this is the first book by this author that I have read, but it was so good and so enjoyable, I’ll be getting my hands on the others. I know there were things that I missed in the previous two books, but I didn’t feel at all lost as the author updated most everything.
If you love a really good mystery, and surprises abound, I never guessed the ending, this is a book for you!
I received this book through Great Escapes Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
As I began to read the book I had this thought in my head. I felt like I was standing in front of a painting looking at the mountains as a car carefully climbed up the mountaintop. You know that feeling you get at a museum when the picture captures your attention? You can feel yourself understand exactly what the painter was thinking when they put the picture on canvas. I know it sounds weird but the author is so descriptive that I actually could feel myself in the car with Eddie and her mother Chava. What a nice adventure they were going on and I was in the back seat excited to join along.
Eddie's big adventure with her mom at the resort sounds like so much fun. As Eddie begins her hike I thought maybe her dog should have joined her. I know I wouldn't be able to hike as far as she had planned. On her way back, things take a bad turn. Who is the man she finds? Why is he so desperate to find his daughter? This is when the author really peaks my curiosity. After reading the disaster that happens in the mountains, I don't think I will be doing any hiking any time soon.
The story is very intense and leads Eddie and her parents on a dangerous expedition. I loved Eduardo and Chava. They are great characters and do the best they can to protect their daughter. Eduardo was my favorite character in the story. I loved his strong personality and attention to details. He was highly intelligent and had no fear. I felt that with Eduardo and Chava helping with the investigation it made the story more intriguing. The author delivers a first rate story that involves a mysterious compound found deep in the mountains. Eddie finds it hard to get answers from the community , but with the help of her parents they will discover a secret that could get them killed. This is definitely a story you can't put down and will lead readers to an unexpected ending.
I received a copy of this book from The Great Escape Virtual Book Tour. The review is my own opinion.
PI Eddie Shoes thinks she's about to enjoy a weekend getaway with her mother, but the very first day finds her in the middle of a forest fire with a dying man who begs her to find his missing daughter. So much for the vacation. Eddie teams up with her mother, Chava and father, Eduardo to find the missing, possibly abducted, girl. The dynamic within the trio of sleuths is as engaging as the mystery is compelling. This is the third book in the Eddie Shoes Series, but the first I've read. I can't wait to pick up the other two!
