A big thank you to NetGalley and Crimson Dragon Publications for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book, and first time reading this author. His is a pretty girly book. Lots and lots of pink. Cute story and graphics. Setting goals and dream big!! I rate it a 3.5.
Pearls for Pearl is a children's picture book about a tiny mermaid named Pearl who is purchased from a pet store. I read this to my 6 year old daughter who enjoyed the illustrations, colors, and story, but has not requested that we read it again. I preferred the look of this book over the story. I understand that this is a children's picture book, but it had my husband and I trading glances of incredulity.
My daughter chose this book because she liked the pretty cover. I agreed to download it based on the description that praised it as a book that teaches the importance of goal setting and problem solving to preschoolers. After reading the book I didn't see the lesson as being obvious and found the plot rather shallow. When I asked my daughter about the book it was quite clear that she did not receive this message either. Her take away was that everything was pretty and pink and that she liked jewelry too.
A tiny mermaid is bored in the pet shop, so when a little girl comes in looking for a pet she turns on the charm and gets bought. She makes friends with an octopus and then is distracted by something shiny outside the tiny aquarium.
The cute artwork, especially the mermaid, will make this a hit, especially with little girls, but there isn’t much of a story here. Thankfully it’s too short to become boring, but other than her mode of transportation, not much takes place.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
An adorable book, perfect for bed time stories with your little girl. The colors are beautifully chosen, and a perfect fit for the fun character in the book. The story was short and sweet, and perfect for younger children, probably below the age of 5. There was a hidden message to reach for your dreams, and not to give up once the going gets tough.
I received this from #NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I have two minds on this book. One is it is a nice sweet story of a mermaid chasing treasure. The other is it’s an enslavement of a mermaid as a pet. The mermaid is willing to harm herself to get out of her prison for some treasure. The second mine is the sick adult one that most kids won't see in the story.
This book would not download. My granddaughter and I were very disappointed. We looked forward to reading it. However, from the description, I would recommend this book to young children.
Aww... this book is so cute and is definitely the perfect gift for every little girl. The illustrations are equally pretty as the story. And what's the cherry on the top, it has a positive message. Beautifully narrated, a tale of a little mermaid who is adopted by a little girl. How the mermaid finds a friend and tries to reach what she desires. A must read bedtime tale.
Thank you Netgalley for the copy.
This book was super cute! The illustrations are super colorful and engaging. I read this to my cousins and they were in love with Pearl! Highly recommend this one for parents with small children, it's a great bedtime story!

This cute, sparkly book just shouted at me to be read, so of course I clicked on the Read Now at Netgalley. And boy, this book was adorable, cute, sparkly.
Pearl is a tiny mermaid and she is in luck, today she gets to come to a new home. Pearl is totally happy as she was quite bored at her aquarium in the pet store. Not only does she have a new owner, but she also quickly makes friends with another inhabitant in the fish bowl at her new home.
Then her eyes fall upon a treasure trove. Namely her new owner's jewellery case overflowing with shiny items! Pearl then shows us all that dreams can be made true. If you just try hard enough and never give up. You can also reach those shiny things you may want!
Also where can I buy myself a tiny mermaid? I would love to have one, especially if she can talk and we can have endless fun chats about shiny stuff. :P Defnite plus points for creativity (as I can't remember a book featuring mermaids sold at a pet store).
Oh, I do hope that Pearl and her new friend will get a bigger bowl, it just seems that it is quite tiny for two inhabitants, especially as big as Pearl and her friend are.
The art? ADORABLE! Cute! Sweet! And I just adore the colours (all soft and shiny).
Yep, this is one book I would recommend, be warned it is very cute and sparkly!
