Jennifer Probst is fast becoming one of my go to authors. She writes real characters who are easy to root for and who have stories that we want to hear more about!
This was my first book by Jennifer and I have to say I’m sad I haven’t read her before!! This is the first book in a new series for her and I’m so happy I got to start it at book one!!
All Ethan wants is peace and quite. He needs to heal his wounds from being a Paratrooper in the Special Forces and his sisters B and B seems like the place to be. But then Mia enters his life and the sparks fly!! He tries to remind himself its business and not personal but he can only contain himself for so long.
Mia can’t stand Ethan at first!! He irritates her to no end, but still she can’t stop thinking about him. When these two finally let go of their guards and realize how similar they are they find that the passion has always been there!
I really liked the hate to love of this story, and I normally don’t hit the characters were well written and it made them easy to love! I would 100% recommend this book and I can’t wait to get he next book in the series!! I hope it doesn’t take too long!!
There is a reason I love Jennifer Probst, and this book exemplifies why. Ethan was a great hero and Mia was his counter point. Their chemistry was palpable and I enjoyed watching the two of them fall. Ms. Probst wrote another good story that kept me enthralled until the end. I definitely recommend reading this book and will be rereading it myself.
Jennifer Probst is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. I was delighted to receive this ARC of her new Stay series.
I loved this book! The rooster was hilarious. How can you not love a rooster? I really loved watching Ethan and Chloe get to know each other and move past their vulnerabilities to discover love. Mia, the teenager, got a bit irritating sometimes but it struck me as true to life (teenagers ARE irritating after all).
Overall, this is the perfect book to tuck into your beach bag. I can't wait to read Ophelia's story next!
Many thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Jennifer never ceases to amaze me with her beautiful writing style and her fabulous storylines and plots . This one was no different. A must read and highly recommended. Thank you netgallery for providing me advance copy of this book
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
So this book really does have it all - a sexy and brooding wounded veteran, an angsty teen, a high-powered career woman, and a crazy rooster who just wants to be loved. When Mia is sent to a rural B&B/horse farm to take care of her client's college-aged daughter, she's miserable at first - attacked by roosters and treated pretty harshly by Ethan, the horse trainer who's battling some severe survivor's guilt after a mission gone awry during the war. What starts as mutual dislike slowly crackles into a wildfire of chemistry and it isn't long before everyone at the B&B is rooting for them to get together. As the summer goes on, Mia starts to enjoy herself and begins to wonder what was so great about NYC in the first place. Can Mia and Ethan make it work when big cities give him anxiety attacks and she has a booming PR firm?
All in all, it was great to watch Mia settle down, Ethan open up, and Chloe really bloom into an amazing young woman. The way all of these characters came to truly care about each other and open up to one another was fabulous. There were moments of laughter and emotional scenes that touched my heart and that damn rooster definitely won me over.
A really good read that left me anxious for Ophelia's book. That scene at the end definitely sparked my interest.
My absolute favourite Probst book. Loved all the characters, their struggles, their successes. Who couldn't love Hei Hei ? Make this your next read you'll love it
I have to say that the book killed me in some parts and it was all because of kindness. The people in this book were too kind and it made me a little emotional. They made me feel like I was living in a small town where only good people exists. Fran was also a great addition even if we didn't see much of her. The duo Mia-Chloe was not a favorite of mine in the beginning, but I ended up loving both. Mia was pushing herself too much and she had an air of superiority that got on my nerves and once she started eating carbs she became a good, likable person. Poor Chloe was σo neglected and I hadn't realized that until the opened up to Mia and Ethan. She got on my good side very fast after that and I hope she will also get a book in the series, maybe after Ophelia and Harper get theirs. In the final chapter, we were teased about Ophelia's story and we will have some juicy story on our hands. The author did a great job at setting up the B&B and the people who live in it. I can tell just from one book that the series will be a good one and people will love it. Another thing that I loved was how hard Ethan and Mia tried to make things work and it was a refreshing way, which made the book even better. No unnecessary drama for these two! The start of something good was a spot on title for this book and it deserves a 5-star rating and a recommendation.
Mia Thrush has her life in order and her ultimate goal in sight until her client pushes her to head to a horse farm to babysit his troubled teen daughter. The first person she meets is Ethan Bishop. Ethan is a former Special Force member who only came home because he was injured and had no choice. The chip on his shoulder is HUGE. He is struggling to find his way in civilian life. The minute they met I could feel the sparks. Holy cow… these two have to get together. The pull between them is just too much.
It was so very much fun getting to know both Mia and Ethan. They both had to get over themselves, find what they really wanted in life, and figure out how to get there…together. I love the promise of no feelings, no commitment. From the beginning the reader knows it is a lie, there is no way either of these characters can be together and not fall for each other. The falling is the part of the story that I couldn’t get enough of.
The other character that I love is Chloe. She is the client’s daughter who is doing her community service at the horse farm. I love that she is sassy, full of herself and looking for fun but not sure what kind of fun she wants to have. These are things that a teen girl embodies. She was real, she was true, and she was perfect. She worked hard, gave lip to both Ethan and Mia, and was quick with her comments on all things happening in her life and in the rest of the characters life.
The Start of Something Good is a great start to a series, Stay, that is now on my must-read list. Jennifer Probst is a talented author that pulls the reader in, makes them invested in the characters, and doesn’t let them go until the last word is read.
The Start of Something Good, by Jennifer Probst is a contemporary romance that focuses on love, families, and overcoming challenges. Also, it's the first book in the Stay series.
Ethan Bishop has recently returned to his hometown in Hudson Valley. As a former Special Forces paratrooper, he's dealing with wounds and pain from his military life. His two sisters have convinced him to help at the family bed and breakfast and farm. Ethan's quiet existence has become drastically different when Mia arrives.
Mia Thrush is highly focused on her career as public relations agent in New York. When one of her main client requested her additional help, Mia relents and moves to the Bishop family farm, along with her fake niece as her primary summer work project. Ethan and Mia are constantly at odds, yet they are mutually attracted to each together. This story features plenty of drama and entertaining conversations.
The Start of Something Good is geared towards those who are interested in modern romances, and I'm highly interested in reading future books in this delightful series.
Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The Start of Something Good by Jennifer Probst is a beautifully written love story. This book is Ethan & Mia’s story and it will make you smile and grip your heart. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.
I loved this story … so fun and interesting. The highlight of this one is the heroine, Mia, who is smart, interesting, loyal and a hard worker. She was vulnerable and strong at the same time … as we often are. I liked that the author brought that out in her. She also had some great moments when she gets all sassy! She stood up for herself at every turn which I enjoyed. I liked the hero as well and how their relationship grew from disdain to passion. There was more of a focus on the characters and the story than the sex. But, there is some sex … it’s just not the focus of this romance. There is a weird food obsession in this one - the hero constantly trying to get the heroine to eat. I generally overlooked it but at a certain point it became too much. The animals in this one were also a standout. A horse, a dog and a chicken named Hei Hei (my personal favorite). All in all, a really nice romance. Definitely recommend!
I loved and enjoyed this one. The characters chemistry was so sweet and I just loved the story line. cant wait to read more.
What a fantastic story! This budding relationship wasn’t easy - when two strong willed personalities meet on a country horse farm . One’s coming home when it’s the last place he wants to be and one being forced there from her boss. Ethan is trying to figure out how to put his “new” lot on life back on track while Mia wants nothing more than to help flourish her career. Their 1st meeting couldn’t have gone worse and thier 2nd meeting wasn’t much better. They found themselves at each other’s throats but sometimes it’s easier to push someone away then to bring them close. When Ethan and Mia finally share their stores with each other - tears were streaming down my face. I loved that every sentence I read in this book had me thinking that I was standing right next to them. Chloe was an exceptional side character in this contry horse farm setting and I’d love to see a book written about her! Jennifer Probst is one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what else this series has to offer.
I was gifted a copy of this ebook from Montlake Romance from NetGalley for an honest review.
The Start of Something Good leaves you knowing life is worth living even through its ups and downs. Enemies become lovers and opposites attract. The journey of life is full of challenges and it all boils down to the human ability to cope and adapt while instilling in others the hope for a better future.
High maintenance Mia is ambitious and on the brink of making her career dreams come true. Doing a favor for a client she ends up in a small town at a ranch for rescued horses. This is not the life she is used to, but she is willing to put up with this in order to further her career.
Ethan has just retired from Special Forces. The war has left him broken and in need of healing. He is seeking refuge in his hometown with his family surrounded by the things he grew up with. Working with rescued horses and the irony that he is also broken does not escape him. This is his journey to healing while helping these animals become whole too. The clash with Mia brings to surface all range of emotions. The journey to loving and committing to a special someone is both Mia and Ethan's trial.
Do not miss this all emotions masterpiece!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
I absolutely adored this book! Jennifer Probst knows how to capture your attention with her characters and build a great story and build interest for future books in series. Definitely be reading the rest of the series.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
I love a good enemies to lovers trope and this was also such a nice feel good book that was so much more than just a romance, there’s a rebellious teen added into the mix as well as a horse rescue farm (one that I now also feel like working on after reading this book- and I’m totally a city girl all the way).
.
The story revolves around our high-strung heroine who owns her own small PR company and her current case has her working for an up and coming politician. When the politician’s daughter gets caught for vandalism she is sent to do community service at a horse rescue farm and her father trusts no one but our heroine to look out for her and to make sure she doesn’t get in any more trouble. Our hero suffers from PTSD and used to not only be a Hollywood bodyguard but also a para-military rescuer before his career ended very badly. Now he works at his family’s horse rescue farm. From their very first interaction they are like fire and oxygen- absolutely explosive and they can’t stand each other- he can’t stand the city princess who parades around the farm in designer heels and she can’t stand the small town farm boy. It is absolutely amazing to read these two and their explosive moments!
.
It was so beautiful to see the teenager grow up from angst driven teen to someone who takes responsibility for her actions and lets in the people around her. The hero and heroine both had growing to do as well- especially the heroine who really needed the giant stick up her butt removed (yup I totally went there). I didn’t realistically believe the whole PR backstory as to why she got into it (just didn’t click for me) but I got over it pretty quickly. I loved the horseman/princess nickname the 2 MCs kept giving each other (soooo cute). This was the perfect amount of sweet and hot 🔥🔥, loved it! Great new release!
What a breath of fresh air! In this world of Mommy porn, Jennifer Probst delivers a heartwarming story about love, family and compromise. Don’t be fooled, there’s plenty of steam too. Well rounded characters, cute animals and plenty of sass. This is a fantastic read and I can’t wait for more of this family’s stories!

This book is about Mia and Ethan.. who you totally hate for about 30% of the book. Like where is this book going. It was so easy to want to DNF due to both characters just not doing it for me! This is an enemies to lovers story which is the only way this book wasn’t going to self implode. This book is about how equine therapy, change, and finding yourself along the way can change you. Mia has such a change in attitude, goals, and persona its quite unbelievable and I don’t think anyone could change that much that fast. Also Ethan is pretty much like a superhero he has 3 full fledged careers!!! Like whattttttttt dudeee… okay so me having history with this author and loving her… super helped this book get a 4 rating.
But the book gets saved about the halfway point we start really enjoying the main characters.. the side characters stories did nothing for the actual story but I ended up really liking the book. I think I will continue this book to see where it goes. And I hope the vision for book 2 is a little more realistic and clear with its intentions. I think there were too many obstacles that didn’t make sense at all and it cluttered book 1.
The book isn’t very memorable. But it has some sweet moments. I think the pets made the book hahaha.. and the old pervy grannies. It was overall a decent read. It is the parsley of books.. a nice palate cleanser from the intense books I have been reading lately.
What a really good start to this series! I loved Ethan and Mia and I see an interesting story coming for Ophelia. I hope we get to see Chloe again too.
