Out in May is a new addition to the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series of books by Dana Simpson. Today I’ll Be a Unicorn is a board book aimed at preschoolers.
It’s short, 12 pages, as typical of the format, and each two-page spread is one image of Phoebe and Marigold (the unicorn). There’s not a lot of art, but the concept is immediately understandable. Phoebe wants to be a unicorn, until she finds out what they eat. It’s cute and imaginative, introducing the characters to an audience too young for their comics. And who wouldn’t want to be sparkly and sit on rainbows?
This was absolutely adorable! What little girl doesn't want to be a unicorn? I highly recommend this!
I found this book on Netgalley and the unicorn title made me read it immediately.
I was a little disappointed when I noticed how short the book was, however, the illustrations are incredibly cute and the story is very funny and smart (I loved the pizza incident- who wouldn't postpone being a unicorn for pizza?). I would recommend this book for people with small children, I'm pretty sure they'd love it. I'm also curious to read more books written by Dana Simpson.
Cute, short read about a girl who wishes to be a unicorn, until she learns that unicorns don't eat pizza. Lots of kids could/would relate to this; as there tends to be a fascination with unicorns. The pictures were vibrant in color. I'd definitely recommend to anyone that has a little girl.

As a huge fan of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series, I was excited to see this children's board book available on Netgalley. I enjoyed reading the brief story aloud to my four year old, who loved the illustrations and laughed at the ending.
Filled with the illustrations and humor that older readers of Phoebe have come to know and love, it's a perfect introduction to the series for younger children or as a fun stand-alone story for anyone who loves unicorns ...and/or pizza!
Today I'll Be a Unicorn by Dana SimpsonWould've been five stars if this book had been longer (8 pages!). There is a nice story of Marigold deciding that she is going to be a unicorn for a day but then deciding it is not for her. I'd call it an entrance drug to the Heavenly Nostrils series.
Four stars
This book comes out May 8

TODAY I'LL BE A UNICORN was a quick, adorable and colorful board book. It shows an adorable little girl who wants to be a unicorn for a day, until she finds out that unicorns don't get to eat pizza but instead hay. The pictures are bright and will keep small children attentive.
As usual, Dana Simpson writes a sweet story of Phoebe and her unicorn friends. I enjoyed the illustrations. My pre-school niece would love this. I can imagine having a discussion about same and different with her.
Today I'll Be A Unicorn is such a cute read! The illustrations are adorable, bright, and very colorful! A short and sweet story perfect for little ones, but also one that older children will enjoy! This book will be a hit with all unicorn lovers big and small! In tough and sturdy board book form for all of those little hands that will be pouring all over it!
As a preschool teacher, I have some children who are absolutely in love with and intrigued by unicorns. This book is very short and a take from Simpson's graphic novels. It was just okay for me. Not an outstanding book by any means, but I can see some children enjoying it.
Sweet little storybook - perfect for any child (and maybe a fanciful adult ;) that loves, or has ever wanted to BE a unicorn. Great pictures, quick read - can't wait to purchase for some of my own little friends <3 I was provided a copy of this book by Netgalley
This was a cute book. I liked the illustrations. It was very colorful with short sentences (great for younger kids with short attention spans). It was a cute message that even though it's sometimes fun to be something else, being yourself has its perks too.
As I stated above I thought this would be a Kindle ARC, I only read on my Kindle. Thanks for the opportunity
Lovely pictures and story. The illustrations are simple, but full of color; perfect for the younger crowd. The little girl gets to experience the magic of being a unicorn and then learns to love being a girl. Great message.
Review to come in April on all sites mentioned in my profile.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So I am normally not a big fan of the Unicorn/Heavenly Nostrils comics, but I just couldn't resist this one. It looked just too cute to ignore, plus I wanted to see the girl get to be a unicorn!
The book tells us all about the little girl, how she dons a tail and a magic horn (tail stuck to her middle, horn is a headband with some cute ears and flowers) and then goes to prance around the fields, just like a unicorn. There are rainbows, sparkles, and more! But is being a unicorn really that fun? Haha, I am not going to tell you, but I do know that I was totally agreeing with the girl at the end.
The book is quite short, just 12/14 pages, but it is packed with cuteness, glitter, colours and more! The art really shines in this one.
It was definitely a very fun and cute read that I would recommend to everyone. Unicorn lovers unite!
I thought this book was a pretty cute little book but it was just too short! It's not quite simple enough to be a really good board book (which I feel this is the appropriate length) and it's just too short to be considered a good picture book. I wish they had done more together instead of the first thing together being the only deciding factor as to why she'd want to be a unicorn. It just doesn't really let the kids reading the book use their imagination. For what it was, it war pretty cute though and the illustrations were adorable.

Super cute book with gorgeous illustrations. That unicorn... LOVE. Nice and short so it's PERFECT for a bedtime story (especially when they want "just one more book, Mommy" and you really want them to just go to sleep... You know what I'm talking about.)
Yay! another Unicorn book! I love Dana Simpson and her Heavenly Nostrils series, and this book is for the younger Unicorn lover. It is a short (mostly picture) book about wanting to be a unicorn and all the fun things that unicorns get to do. I love these characters and this is a great way to introduce them to a younger audience in a fun way. It is simple and sweet and I loved the end pages.
This was far shorter than I thought it would be. Still, I thought the images were very vivid and quite beautiful. I totally recommend for any parent, especially if your child loves unicorns!
I love this board book, while simple it had a nice carefree vibe. I thought the illustrations had a nice simple elegance to them and were bright and fun. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with young children.
