A reading delicacy!
Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for the opportunity to read and review Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf!
The story opens with three damsels meeting the King, Queen and Prince Lucien as they are tested to become a possible new addition to the royal palace in the form of a bride for Prince Lucien. Zera is one of these supposed damsels, but she’s actually indebted to the witch, Nightsinger, who took her heart in exchange for saving her life three years ago from the murderers who killed Zera’s family. Nightsinger has two others indebted to her,Peligli , a four year old girl and Crav, a boy younger than Zera. The three of them are Nightsinger’s Heartless and they do her bidding. She keeps their hearts until she wants to free them herself. If she dies, they will be free then too. Zera is supposed to be winning the Prince over so she can take his heart and make him a Heartless also. I love Zera with her coping skills and sense of humor and Prince Lucien is interesting too. I enjoy Sara Wolf’s writing style, with the clever wit that keeps me entertained and the complexity of her characters that always make her stories hard to put down. This is the first fantasy from Sara Wolf that I’ve read and I’m greatly impressed. Just as the author dreamed of writing a grand, sweeping and unforgettable fantasy trilogy, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the beginning of it. The action, adventure and dynamic characters make a must-read fantasy, 5 stars!
A girl doesn’t have a heart and the only way to get hers back is to take the Prince’s heart and make him a heartless too. She is willing to do anything. She dresses like royalty and makes him fall in love with her. But, she realizes who he is. What is she going to do? Kill him or live in physical agony forever? This book was amazing. I loved the character development. I can’t wait for the sequel. There better be one!
This book was phenomenal. A one-of-a-kind story that will captivate you and leave you wondering: “where has this book been all my life?” I’m pretty sure after reading Bring Me Their Hearts, I became a Heartless. Or, at least, I’ll be one until I get the next two books. My life currently feels incomplete without them.
Sara’s book will be one I will never forget. The story is wholly original and unlike anything I’ve read in YA. Bring Me Their Hearts will take hold of your heart (not literally, but figuratively) and won’t let it go. I was (and I still am) so enthralled with this book.
Zera is one of the best fictional characters I have ever read. She’s sassy, witty, brave, stubborn, unique, and so much more. She knows what she wants, even when it means doing something that could hurt the people closest to her. She’s the type of girl I looked up to when I was little, and still kind of do. Zera’s main goal is to get her heart back, no matter the cost. She thought it was going to be easy, stealing the Prince’s heart. But no heart is every easy to steal.
I really liked the world building, especially when it came to learning about the witches and Heartless and where magic comes from. The history about the Royal Court and the Heartless is wonderfully juicy. The interactions between Zera and her peers, especially Lucas, are mesmerizing and sometimes hilarious. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much while reading a book than I did during Sara’s.
Bring Me Their Hearts is everything I thought it would be and more. Breathtaking. Addictive. Charming. Captivating. Enchanting. There’s not enough words to describe this book. And that twist toward the end…OH.MY.GOSH. I was on the train when I read the last few chapters and I had the hardest time being quiet and not being an emotional wreck.
I wish there was more I could say, but this book left me speechless (and it appears just writing about the book is doing the same thing). You are most definitely not going to want to miss out on this beauty, trust me.
Bring Me Their Hearts comes out TOMORROW, so make sure to pick up your copy! And check out Sara Wolf’s tour schedule below!
If you like a light fantasy with a snarky female lead, who literally has no heart, but is capable of falling in love, then you will enjoy this. I liked it, for the most part. I did find it a little predictable and the romance moved a bit fast, but it was fun and I really was wondering up until the end whether or not Zera would take the Prince’s heart.
Zera was an interesting young lady. The whole concept of a Heartless was something that kept me interested in the story. Her attitude and opinions are definitely shaped by what she is. I loved some of her comebacks and comments throughout the story. Some of her inner dialogue was interesting as well, especially when she was fighting the monster within herself.
I liked the Prince as well. Although his character was typical of this type of story, he was still likable and I could see why he would fall for someone like Zera. He does want to make things better for his subjects and will work against the evil Archduke Gavik for them. His body guard Malachite was probably my favorite character though. He was just so irreverent and wouldn’t let either Lucien or Zera get away with much.
There was also a nice blend of the magical and the scientific in this world. The polymaths inventions both help life and destroy it. In fact, there are lots of contradictions between life and death in this book. The pace of the story was ok, there were some lags in the middle, but the descriptions of the food and gowns was sumptuous and added to the story. The last 50 or so pages were well done, and like I said before, I could not predict whether or not Zera was going to go through with her mission. Although not a complete surprise there is quite the cliffhanger at the end. If you struggle with those you might want to wait till the next book comes out before reading this one.
A solid fantasy with a feisty and strong female voice.
This was an interesting book for me. I had a bit of a hard time getting through the first several chapters, because the main character, Zera, was a little annoying in the beginning. But soon the action picked up and Zera's attitude seemed to tone down. Then I really began to enjoy this book.
Zera is what is known as a Heartless. She was "rescued" from death three years earlier by a witch who keeps Zera's heart in a jar in her cottage hidden deep in the woods. The Heartless have several interesting characteristics, but the most important is that they cannot be killed. This makes Zera the perfect candidate to send on a dangerous mission: the witches want Zera to pose as a potential bride for the human Prince Lucien.
They want her to take his heart and bring it to the witches so they can turn him into a Heartless and use him as a bargaining chi to stave off war between the witches and humans. Zera agrees because she is offered the one thing she wants more than anything if she can take the prince's heart--her own will be restored to her.
As I mentioned earlier, Zera comes off as very sarcastic in the beginning and I was not sure if I was going to be able to root for her. Once Zera began her mission and was immersed in the court politics and society of Cavanos she seemed to soften and lost that tendency to snap at everyone. While she did not lose her edge and kept offering up smart-aleck remarks (often at the worst times), her character became less prickly and more relatable. Her attempts to earn the trust of Lucien and become the prospective bride offered by the outcast family of Y'Shennria became a journey for her to remember what it was like to be human.
The book was a bit predictable and had many YA tropes, and I could smell at least a sequel if not full-fledged trilogy coming at least half-way through the book. This did not make this a less-enjoyable read, though. Zera grew into a great character, and Lucien was a good match for her. The author also created a great cast of supporting characters, including Zera's "aunt" and Lucien's personal bodyguard. The world that was created by the author perfectly walked the line of being just developed enough for the reader to get an idea of what was going on without getting so specific and overwhelming to be boring or confusing.
I did question just a bit the author's choice to jump right in to the "meeting" of Zera and Lucien at the Spring Bride ceremony, and then going back to the more conventional beginning of the story. I don't think it really served any purpose and in my opinion the story would have been just fine moving in chronological order.
The ending was quite the cliff-hanger, but it did leave me wanting to read the next installment. I would recommend this book to fans of Fantasy, YA, and Romance.
The premise of this book sounds so incredibly compelling and unique and I was excited to check it out! I think I maybe just wasn't in the right mind-set for it when I ultimately did though. I struggled connecting to any of the characters and I would have liked more chemistry (even though I do realize that's not exactly the entire point of the story). I may circle back to this one when I'm ready for something a little less warm and fuzzy, but unfortunately at this time, it fell flat for me.
Bring Me Their Hearts is a dark and captivating fantasy story that follows Zera, a witches heartless immortal thrall tasked by the witch Nightsinger with stealing the Princes heart in exchange for the one thing she wants above all else; her heart and all the past memories it contains. Once the witches have his heart Prince Lucien can be turned into a heartless thrall himself and used as a political prisoner to prevent an upcoming war with the humans. What Elizera didnt realize was the Prince is just as determined to stop this war as the wicthes. Will the price of freedom be worth making a monster of the only happiness she's ever known?
I love me a witty smart mouth main character and Zera was definitely it. Her clever and snarky remarks made her perspective very compelling. Her potato comment was epic. I totally didnt see it coming and I will never look at a potato the same way again. The hunger living inside her since her heart was taken 3 years ago was irrational and destructive which made a great contrast with her sharp mind and caring personality. The side characters were well fleshed out and I really enjoyed Zeras relationships with them. Her complexe relationship with Nightsinger felt real and I loved how her relationship with her fake aunt Y’shennria developped. Her court training to be presented as a potentiel bride for the Prince made them bond despite Y’shennria fears.
I didnt think Id come to love Lucien as much as I did, but his sneaky thieving ways and compassionate heart won me over. The bad boy with a heart of gold trope was well done here. It was sweet how much he came to care for Zera. It took some time, but after showing she was willing to put herself in danger to defend his people he started opening up to her. His bodyguard Malachite was a favorite with his funny and candid personality. Fione was more of a morally grey character willing to put others in danger to get revenge for the murder of the princess. I understood where she was coming from unlike her uncle Gavik. His motivations for being so cruel and wanting another war with the witches weren't clear to me. Im hoping we get more insight in the sequel.
This book had some unique features that I really appreciated. The world building transports you to this whole new planet with 3 moons of different colors as well as ice poles to the East and the West and a sun that travels in the opposite direction. Theres also some awesome magic and a bunch of fascinating creatures. On top of witches and their heartless we see some fearsome goblin like creatures called Beneathers who keep the deadly serpent dragon Valkerax captured underground. We also get to see some lethal cat/lizard creatures called Celeons whose skills often have them working as guards and assassins. I need more of these intriguing creatures in the next book. I even liked seeing the witches turn into a murder of white crows.
The writing was simple and efficient while still making this darkly alluring world come to life with distinct elements. The pace was steady with a lot of tension caused by our main characters internal conflict and some action sprinkled throughout. It focuses more on the characters than the plot, but since I loved the characters and their relationships I was gripped from start to finish. The plot itself was predictable, but it still managed to surprise me at times and get my heart pounding. That cliffhanger ending has me in a panic for the sequel. I just love endings like that. This is definitely a new favorite and Id recommend it if you want a dark romance in unique fantasy world with riveting characters.
Will also share on Amazon, Monthly Wrap Up, Book Tag, Spring Favorites & Predicting 5 Star Results.
The beginning was a little slow for me, as you get a glimpse of her first meeting in court in the prologue, then it jumps back to set the story up. Despite the slow beginning, it was still a compelling story. I found myself constantly wanting to pick my book back up to read. It was a great fantasy read that I would definitely recommend. I loved Zera's sass!
Witches, magic, sword fights, bad-ass ladies, a plot twist, and a leading lady you can’t dislike!

Infiltrate the castle, pretend to offer yourself to be the Prince’s bride, take his heart and turn him into a Heartless like the monster that you are. Easy enough right? But this is a YA fiction and nothing is ever easy for our dear characters! Fast paced, action-packed, heart-pounding scenes. It was simple, and easy to follow which I liked very much.
C H A R A C T E R S
Lots of character development took place in this book and not just from our main character but also to the secondary characters.
Zera
Such a witty character created by Sara Wolf and her thoughts are even more hilarious. I instantly fell in love with her. She comments on everything and she just makes me LOL. I love how she hides behind sarcasm because I sometimes do that too. Though in the later part of the book where her character begins to change, I also felt sorrowful.

Utterly amazing! Sara Wolf has created a world I’ve never been to before but wouldn’t like to live in. (hahaha!)But the creatures and social customs, they’re astonishing. The book has a little bit of everything, especially the emotions the reader will go through and these types of writing are what makes me love reading so much. I did not want to put my phone down!
O V E R A L L
Though it never said that this would be a series or a standalone but by the end of the book the author said the story will continue and that’s when my suspicions became correct. Cannot wait for the next book, I’m super excited!
For all the love I have for this tale, it starts off a bit slow, it took me a couple of tries before I could finally focus enough to read and digest it. It's not like it's not interesting, because it is, the world is quite intriguing, it's a normal world as far as it can go, set in a time where there's scientific advancement, yet still in an age where transportation is by horse-drawn carriages and witches, there's is glorious magic in this book, and of course I am on the side of the people with magic.
This an Entangled Publishing book, so the romance in it, is everything to write home about, but oh so angsty! the chemistry between Lucien and Zera is scorching, I love the banter between them. The road to them falling in love is mainly the story, with the fantasy elements coming out boldly in between. I love me a romance filled fantasy, I feel there should be more written and executed as well as Sara Wolf has done with Bring Me Their Hearts.
I love Zera, she is a bold character, who despite everything (they don't consider Heartless to be human, I mean they are undead beings moving around with no heart, but they still can be human again, so I think the disdain for them is completely unwarranted, especially most Heartless did not choose to be, humans can be despicable with their logic) is a kind and extremely compassionate being. Yet she doesn't let anyone lead her, despite being a slave, she is her own sassy self and I would love to have her as a friend. I absolutely hate the guilt she has forsaken herself with. The guilt of being a Heartless, I mean it wasn't her choice, and I think it's unhealthy how worthless she feels she is because she is such an amazing being and more than anything deserves her humanity.
There's a lot going on and I totally hate the King in the story, he is so weak and unworthy of the throne, ruling by fear can only get you so far and turning a blind eye to suffering is inexcusable, miss me with he's a grieving father, when you're the ruler of a kingdom, it's tough but your kingdom, the people in it should always come first. That's why I really like Prince Lucien.
The book ends with the worst kind of cliffhangers, I just hate it when the last moments of a tale is so short but covers a lot of ground at once, so many revelations at the end of the book, that will only leave you speculating with unanswered questions, that you can't help but ask your bookish god, why the author toyed with your heart so dirtily.
I was given this book in exchange of an honest review, which I have done ever so wonderfully, I can't wait for the next book in this series and I believe it is one every romance and fantasy lover will enjoy reading. I know my review gives so little away because I want you to please pick up this book and read it.
Some of this may be personal and how I'm very tired of fantasy right now. The stories seem very similar, there is some sort of kingdom with a love story between either a prince and a commoner or princess and a commoner with a twist on some sort of fairy tale. I like the angle of having a character who literally wants a heart, but that in itself is also not new. I got more into the story over halfway through and then there is a twist that was not surprising to me at the end. It is nicely written and the main character is good which kept me reading until the end. For me, jury is still out on this trilogy but I'll probably pick up the next to see where it's going.
I loved this book!! If I could have any fictional characters' wit it would be Zera. She was hilarious, I laughed out loud so many times with her quick responses and bicker with Lucien. I was so wrapped up in the story that the ending caught me so off guard. I won't spoil anything, but I was not prepared. I definitely recommend this book, it was so entertaining and funny. It isn't a comedy by any means though, there is inner turmoil and darkness as well as violence and mild crudeness, but it was so well balanced with comic relief. I couldn't put it down and think it would be a good addition to anyways want to read lists.
3.5 stars
Plot: I picked up Bring Me Their Hearts because it sounded like the dark fantasy I was desperately in need of, and surprisingly, the tone was rather light. Zera was an orphaned girl who was turned into a creature whose only instincts were to kill and eat. She had the opportunity to gain her humanity back in the exchange for the heart of an enemy prince, and of course, there was only one girl for the job.
Bring Me Their Hearts was a fun book, I enjoyed myself every step of the way and I found it hard to put down. I'm a sucker for deception and court intrigue so I enjoyed every close call and all the secrets that unfolded. Of course, the romance played a key role in Bring Me Their Hearts but it did seem that the romance got more attention than it actually needed. There was a war on the horizon but it seemed so far away given the focus on Prince Lucien and Zera.
At the end of the day, Bring Me Their Hearts hit all of the YA notes, but there were some scenes that were a bit too paint by numbers.
Characters: Zera was the sassy main character that we all deserved. Even though she was handed a crappy hand in life, she still had her sense of humor and sharp wit. I enjoyed her interactions with everyone, especially Prince Lucien. The other side characters were interesting enough to endear themselves to me and I want them to have bigger roles in future books.
Worldbuilding: The world of Bring Me Their Hearts was intriguing because it was filled with lots of different magical creatures. Of course, there were witches and their Heartless servants, but there were also wolf-like creatures and other things that went bump in the night. The court life was everything I wanted and more. There were different allegiances and a clear understanding of why the witches and humans were walking on eggshells. I liked the bits of the world that we saw outside of the court so I really hope that it will be further explored in the next installment.
Short N Sweet: Bring Me Their Hearts was creative and different. This will be a winner for readers who want their fantasy with a lighter tone.
This book pushes all the right buttons of traditional tropes in all the fun ways and I enjoyed it immensely. It had an interesting blend between magic and tech, and I really loved the characters. Everyone had their own goals and took significant plot-defining steps towards them, which is something rare to see with secondary characters in YA. Also queer and disabled rep - yes please!
Thanks Netgalley for this ARC and I can't wait for the next book!
When I saw this pretty cover with the awesome-looking Zera brandishing a giant sword and read the title, I was pretty much sold on this. Then I realized that she was actually, LITERALLY trying to take the prince's heart and I was gone. I needed to get my hands on this thing and I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to read it! IT WAS SO GOOD.
Okay, first of all, the sassy wonder Zera was my favorite. Wearing fancy dresses and kicking butt, all while dishing out the snappy one-liners! I loved watching her grow over the course of the book and make new friends after being alone for so long. Despite having a hard outer shell, she had a great sense of loyalty and love that I really admired.
And of course, I OBVIOUSLY loved Lucien the dark haired prince with a heart of gold. The banter between him and Zera was great fun to watch and their romance was adorable. But the real relationship that I enjoyed watching was the one between Zera and Y'shennria. Good parents and/or guardians are always lacking in these young-adult books and it was so refreshing to see maternal relationship take center stage for once. By the end of the book, watching Zera and Y'shennria together gave my heart all the warm fuzzies!
Lastly, I thought the world building was awesome! I was really fascinated by this little universe Wolf created and it was fun learning all the rules.
Oh, and by the way. MALACHITE IS THE BEST AND I LOVE HIM. Just saying.
I wouldn't change a thing about this book, it's perfect the way it is. There's only one thing I need to say and get out of my system... THAT ENDING WAS THE SO DIABOLICALLY EVIL!!!! ARGGGG I NEED THE NEXT ONE NOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!
FINAL WORD
Perfect. Wonderful. Excellent. A medieval, stabby, sassy delight! I need the next one. Tomorrow. Now. Yesterday. GIVE ME MORE!!!
Zera: a unique character!
Let's talk about what (or who) I loved the most about this book: Zera. In one word, she is sassy. Ok, to be honest, first pages she was pissing me off with her reckless decisions. But then, she is so hilarious and her humor is exactly my type! There is also the way she plays her role, her struggles regarding her mission but also the fight she has to put against her other self. She is good with words, she is good with a sword, and she is ready to kick asses. She was definitely unusual and a refreshing character!
"You've stolen from nobles?"
"'Stolen' is such an ugly word." I wrinkle my nose. "I prefer 'long-term-donation.'"
The tension
During the entire book, we are left wondering, under pressure: will Zera be discovered? will she take Lucien's heart? So many things can go wrong... and even if things go well, they are still wrong! How to get out of this situation? Well, Sara Wolf manages to lead our poor hearts through the book, in one piece, and end with a cliffhanger that will raise more questions than you'd want!
A complex world building
I was very interested in the world building in this book, it kind of reminded me of the Mistborn universe with the way the city was described, with the watertell system and all the schemes between the nobles. It was a very good beginning and I'm curious to see into what it can evolve.
But too many tropes
Why did the magic fail to capture my heart you may ask? There are so many good things in this book after all. For me, it's just that no matter how good the concept and interesting the characters, it was still expected. The character's arc, the development of the plot, there was no surprise...There was also this thing, you know when the main character miss the obvious? But it's fully understandable by the reader? Well, that bothered me a lot several times in the book. Zera was smarter than that!
In a few words
A good story, with a lot of ideas that are different from everything I have read before, promising characters and world-building, but too many predictable elements for me. I would recommend it if you are in a deep Young Adult phase or haven't read this type of book too much yet. You will really enjoy the Heartless story then!
“I am no flower to be ravaged at your whim, angry wolf—I am your hunter, bow cocked and ready.”
Wow this was so much more than I was expecting! It was so original, dark, and yet still incredibly fun and humorous. I loved how Zera’s internal struggles were showcased, making her connection to the reader in me practically instantaneous. One thing’s for sure, Sara Wolf sure knows how to construct a strong and witty heroine! I couldn’t get enough of her verbal (and literal) sparring with Prince Lucian. They work well together, and I really liked how their relationship developed. One of the other aspects I loved is how “secondary” characters such as Lady Y’shennria and Malachite weren’t just there to help move the plot, they also had complex backstories and really added something great to the story. Don’t just Bring Me Their Hearts, bring me the sequel!
Review: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ +
Zera Y'shennrias eligible maiden from old money. Her family still worship the old gods and the noble people have turned their back on them. This is Zera's cover story. She has a mission, one goal to steal the Prince's heart. How romantic! No wait I mean actually steal his heart.
Prince Lucien d'Malvane, Archduke of Tollmount-Kilstead, fireborn, the Black Eagle. A prince with too many names but the most important one is the secret one. He has had numerous spring bride offerings but Prince Lucien's heart is cold. His love is hidden.
Zera is a Heartless. She protects her witch with the price of her heart. Nightsinger has 3 heartless and Strikes a bargain with Zera for her freedom. Bring the Prince's heart and in exchange, they will have their freedom. Zera wants her heart back more than anything.
A heartless is a human without a heart. They have a monster inside them. The monster wants destruction and is settled with raw meat. The heartless have a half-life. They cannot wander far from their witch. They still have interests and dreams but the hunger is always there.
There is a war brewing between the witches and humans. The witches want to try and prevent the war but some humans want it. The goal of Nightsinger is to prevent a war. She isn't a bad person she is just trying to survive.
Excellent storyline with some loveable characters. The prince is very swoon worthy and Zera is a strong beautiful leading lady. Lady Y'shennria, Zera's "aunt" is one of my favourite characters but everyone has a background story. Everyone is well developed and loveable in their own way. This book is so much more than I expected. It's the first in a trilogy of books and I'm already desperate for the next instalment. Bring me their hearts is enough to quench the monster but will leave you wanting more.
5+ stars out of 5. This is going on my favourite bookshelf. Loved it.
I have only scratched the surface of telling you what this book is about. I didn't want to spoil anything. Happy reading.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"Bring Me Their Hearts" was a fantastic YA fantasy that I wish I could give more than 5 stars to! The only thing I didn't like was that it ends with a cliffhanger and a note to wait for book 2! Can book 2 come today? Anyway, the book follows Zera, who is a Heartless. On this other planet with 3 moons, witches are at odds with humans. A recent war decimated most of the humans as the witches used their magic and their Heartless against them.
Heartless are humans which have had their hearts removed and stored in jars by witches. They cannot be killed easily, as the connected witch can heal them immediately. The only way to kill a Heartless is to shatter their heart (kept safe in a jar by the witch) or to kill the witch that controls them. The Heartless have an appetite for death and struggle to fight this nature- eating raw animal organs helps to maintain their sanity. At the end of the day, the Heartless can be completely controlled by the witch who made them (orders must be followed). Occasionally, a witch will return their heart and they will become human again; however, during the time that they are Heartless, they are frozen in time, unable to age.
Zera became a Heartless when she was 16, and she and her merchant family were killed by thieves. Nightsinger, a witch, found her and made her Heartless, saving her life in a way- however, Zera sees being Heartless as a curse and would do anything to get her heart back. Nightsinger has two other Heartless, Crav and Peligli, also children who would have died without being turned into Heartless. When Zera is offered a bargain- steal the crown prince's heart (literally) in exchange for that of hers, Crav, and Peligli's- Zera is willing to do so.
However, things are not as simple as Zera had hoped, and Lucien is not as easy to hate as she would wish. As she becomes ingrained in the upper class society of the human realm, Zera finds that she may be more human than she previously thought. Filled with witty moments and stunning revelations, this book is one you shouldn't miss!
"Almosts, I'm starting to learn, are fuller of regret than absolutes- much sadder than certain yeses and nos. Yes and no mark ends and beginnings. But almosts cling, hovering on the boundary, never quite realized yet still there."
This book is a must-read! You won't regret picking up, and you'll be demanding book 2 as much as I am! Zera's journey is intense and wonderful with moments of love and humor so endearing you can't help but feel enthralled with the "monster" that is her Heartless. Not to mention all the incredible side characters that you will absolutely fall in love with, including her "auntie" and some of the other court schemers. This book is definitely one of my new favorites! I highly recommend.
Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.
A few years ago, Zera's family was killed by bandits and she was left dying. The witch Nightsinger saved her. Instead of just using her magic to save her, she made her Heartless. With Zera's heart in a jar, NIghtsinger controls her entire life. Zera longs to be back in the world but she is unable to leave the woods that conceal them.
When Nightsinger finds out that the humans are planning another war to wipe out witches and Heartless, she decides Zera might be their only hope of preventing the war. The witches want Zera to go to court as a prospective bride for Crown Prince Lucien and steal his heart. If she steals his heart, Nightsinger will free her.
When I started this book, I felt like the ending was going to be pretty obvious. I was pleasantly surprised! There's a lot more going on in the story. Lucien's story is interesting, and I enjoyed some other characters as well. Fione's great, and I loved Malachite. I don't want to say much more or I will spoil it!
The ending left me hanging, so I will have to check out the next book to see what happens!
