This was such a fast paced read for me. I really loved the plot and absolutely fell in love with the characters. I need more of Zera and Lucien and I can't wait to get more of Malachite in the next book. While I felt it needed a little more in the plot and the end went by a little too fast I still loved reading this story. I had the hardest time putting this down. I just wanted to keep reading even after that last page. This was sassy, a little violent, and incredibly entertaining. Give me that next book please!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This one was pretty fun. There were definitely some issues, mainly repetition and maybe trying a little too hard, but I found myself flying through the book and really looking forward to picking it up. Lots of snark and sass and of course, lots of heart. *groan* I'm not surprised that a lot of people liked this one and I think it would definitely appeal to most YA fantasy readers. Overall I did enjoy this book and I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Here, Sara, take my heart, it's yours.

*Rips her heart out, gives it to the author, dies. Her ghost now returns to write this review and haunt Sara until the second instalment is out.*

Sometimes you see a book, drool over the cover read the premise and know, in your blood and your bones, that you are going to love it. That you'll lose yourself in its pages, see what the characters see and feel what they feel, and that you won't rest until you savor the last sentence. That's the case with Bring Me Their Hearts.

Zera is a Heartless.
The second Heartless to witch Nightsinger, a servant and a soldier meant to obey her master's commands while her heart remains locked in a magical jar. She is overcome with an insatiable hunger for blood, flesh, warm organs and pain, a hunger that whispers of her terrible deeds and beckons her to give in to the darkness. Every day, she begs Nightsinger to give her back her heart. And Nightsinger finally relents, on one condition; Zera must infiltrate the court of the kingdom of Cavanos as a potential bride to Crown Prince Lucien d'Malvane and steal his heart. Literally. There is a war brewing between the worshippers of the Old God and the New, and the witches believe that Lucien is the key to avoid it. With a fallen noble as her guide, Zera learns the ways of nobility and finds herself among backstabbings, feuds and hidden agendas. Between trying to stay inconspicuous and seduce the prince in order to achieve her purposes, Zera discovers a connection with the humanity she thought was lost, and comes to care about people that should only be means to an end. But the dangerous game she plays can only have one outcome: either Lucien loses his heart, or she does.

Bring Me Their Hearts is a luscious tale of court intrigue, magic and bloodshed, with a dash of sass and a sprinkle of darkness. It's one of those rare stories where the gallant prince does not save the damsel from the monster. In fact, the damsel is the monster, with claws and sharp teeth and murder in her hands, and a gnawing, relentless hunger to feast on blood. But the girl within keeps fighting the monster, with small and big acts of defiance, until her hope is torn and shredded, until her unheart cannot bear the absense of all those things that make a human, well, human. Zera is a villain, the instrument of death and destruction, and that's a refreshing change from all those special snowflakes that dominate YA fantasy. But there is also goodness in her, a desire to aid the helpless and defenseless, and that makes her mental turmoil all more excruciating. There is a constant battle inside of her, and Sara Wolf does a marverlous job describing it. Even when her inner monologues seem long and stretched, even when she can't tame the hunger and thoughts of deliciously ravaged bodies tempt her, even when the monster prevails, Zera's narration is unique, laced with sarcasm, dark humor and want, for something better and brighter.

In Bring Me Their Hearts, Sara Wolf crafted a lush, intricate world with sumptuous history and lore; the various races, the religion conflicts, the war and its wounds, the etiquette and the customs enriched the story and opened a portal to compelling yet terrifying fantasy land. With magic sparkling in your fingers and liquor running in your veins, between banquets, balls and nightly escapades, witch purges and illicit meetings, you got to know the city of Vetris, its hypocrisy and its beauty, and you reveled in the court of lies and deceipt. The plot was heavy on schemes and rivalries, the secrets of the royal family many, the hatred and the fear palpable, and while Zera tried to navigate herself in her make-believe new life, you followed her in stupor, unable to stand back and distance yourself.

Zera was a snarky character, with a smart mouth and a tendency to say inappropriate things that somehow caught the attention of his royal highness, prince Lucien. The chemistry between them was a living being from the very start, with barbs and banters ignating the fire that threatened to consume them. I basked in the delicious tension and the witty comebacks, the stolen touches and the burning gazes, and I prayed for an outcome that would spare Lucien's life and give them a chance to be together. Lucien was a well-portayed, multi-layered character, and so was lady Y'shennria. Both of them awakened in Zera different emotions and needs, and witnessing the hunger whispering to her that she was unworthy of them was heartaching. And so was the ending that made me gasp in shock.

Bring Me Their Hearts is a delightfully savage, spellbinding tale laden with deceit, sass and magic that will leave its bloody imprint in your (un)heart!

I was excited to have the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book on NetGalley.
After reading Wolf’s fantastic LOVELY VICIOUS series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her young adult fantasy novel BRING ME THEIR HEARTS. Not only is Wolf is a master of snark and subtext, she delivers the feels.

“I will make an impression here, or I will die for my loose tongue. It’s that simple. Except it isn’t that simple. Because I can’t die. Because unlike the girls next to me, I’m not here to impress the king and win a royal’s hand in marriage or a court position for my father. I’m here for Prince Lucien’s heart. Literally, not figuratively.”*

For three years, Zera lived as a pawn of the witch who turned her into a monster by imprisoning her heart. The witch gives Zera an opportunity to regain her heart and her freedom. All she has to do is to deliver the prince’s heart to the witch. Once Zera starts to fall for the kind-hearted prince, she has second thoughts about consigning him to a nightmare life as a witch’s thrall. But the monster inside her has no such qualms. The creature hungers for blood and lots of it. Plus, the consequences of failing to complete her task are great. Zera’s life isn’t the only one at risk.

BRING ME THEIR HEARTS infuses the best parts of fairytales with emotion, while delivering fresh twists and a unique story world, where magic and technology fight a daily cage match.

I didn’t realize that BRING ME THEIR HEARTS was the first book in a series until I neared the end. While I am anxious to find out what happens next, I am overjoyed to be able to spend more time with these fantastic characters and fascinating story world.

This series starter stole my heart. I eagerly await the next installment.

ZERA!!! She was so mouthy - and I loved every minute of it! This was a book full of goodies! Snarky, sass, love, friendship, loss, revenge, and HEARTS! I cant wait for book 2.... the ending had me wanting to throw my kindle :P but in a good way !! Totally recommend :)

3.5 Stars. This book was actually really entertaining! It by far exceeded my expectations.

Zera is a heartless - an immortal solider bound to the witch who keeps her heart. She longs for freedom and a life outside of the forest she lives in with her witch and two other heartless. She gets that chance when her witch, Nightsinger, offers to give her back her heart in exchange for the Prince's. She agrees to pose as a noble lady trying to win the affection of the Prince, but the court is far more dangerous than she expected and any wrong move could expose her.

I've read quite a few YA fantasy books lately, and this one really surprised me. It was nice to read a fresh, new plot, not the same old recycled ones I see popping up everywhere. It doesn't have the successful world building that some of the other series I read has, but the attempt is there and it works. A lot of word dumping was done in the beginning to get that information out there, but otherwise it flowed nicely. It was cheesy/corny in some spots, but overall it was an entertaining book and I'll most likely read the rest of the series when it comes out.

The cover art and description had a lot of promise for me. The beginning of the book was alright, a little slow and I'm not always a fan of the start of the book going good, and then it takes you back years or so in time to recap the reader as to how things got there. The writing got sloppy and just not enjoyable. The plot had hope, but was poorly executed. An ok read at best. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC though, always enjoyable!

Zera is a heartless and she longs for her human life. When Zera is asked to steal the heart of Prince Lucien and in exchange she would receive her heart back as well as the freedom she desires. Zera feels this will be an easy task but the more she gets to know Lucien the harder she realizes this task will be.

Zera was a strong character who has a lot of sarcastic wit. She grapples with being a heartless, feeling that she is a monster and not worthy. I loved how Zera fought for what she thought was right and had a protective side to her but also that when needed she would fight whoever stands in her way. I liked that while Zera is a heartless she still has humanity left in her even though she has to fight within herself to be the person she wants to be. It was interesting to see Zera get to know Lucien better and seeing how she starts to question the task that she was sent to perform.

Prince Lucian is a hard person to get to know, he builds walls and has a hard time letting trusting people and letting them in. He also has a sarcastic retort, much like Zera. While Lucien at first glance appears to have a hardened personality you start to see how much he cares for the citizens and wants to fight for what's right. I loved the interactions between Zera and Lucien, their constant teasing one another was amusing. I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other better and slowly let their walls down.

This was an entertaining read that I couldn't put down. The end leaves you on an intriguing cliffhanger that leaves me excited for the next book.

I willingly received an advanced copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I don’t think I have enough to describe how incredible this book was! And honestly all I need right now is book two because seriously holly cliffhanger. I guess the bad part about reading arcs is needing to wait even longer for the sequel (le sigh).

This book had such an interesting concept and it felt very new to me because at least the main idea (the main character being pretty much a magical zombie) I don’t think I had read anything like it before and it also felt a bit like a Snow White retelling, but I’m not sure it’s just the vibe I got from it (I could be very wrong). One thing that I absolutely fell in love with was the world, it was simply so beautifully built and all the religions and beliefs of the people there, I just wish we would know more of the other countries aside from the one where the story is set, but maybe we’ll see that in later books! Another thing I loved where the characters, Zera is simply amazing, she resents being a Heartless but she’ll be a perfect soldier in order to regain her freedom and she’s just so sassy and well dressed of course! Lucien and Fione were also so incredible and so was Zera’s ‘auntie’ but who really takes the cake of my favourite is Malachite he is just so sarcastic and full of himself and he’s some sort of Fae I’m assuming, but either way he was great!

I think my only complain is that I felt like there was nothing really happening in the book until like the last 20%? And I was just like plot? What plot? And I don’t if it’s because the last book I read was absolutely action packed but it did take me a couple of days to properly get into this book, but in this case it actually wasn’t enough for me to start skipping some parts or just decide to give up reading it. While yes it was slow and I felt like nothing really was happening, I think the characters and that need to know what happens and wanting to learn more about this beautiful world were what kept me going till I got to the end! But it’s still a great read and I definitely need the second book as soon as possible!

I LOVE this story! LOVE IT! I don't know who to feel sorry for Prince Lucien, Zera or Nightsinger!? I mean really you feel for them all! What a great world Sara Wolf is building! The ending of this book though are you kidding me!? Total cliff hanger! NOW I have to wait how long for Book #2!? But alas, I will wait.

WOW. I am completely blown away by this book's epicness. It has won the whole of my heart, and I wouldn't wish it back for the world.

Let me start this review by saying I thought this was a standalone, and it wasn't until the end that I learned it was to be the first book in a trilogy!!! So instead of being left with sadness over coming to the end of such an amazing journey, I'm thrilled and elated to know that the story is not over yet!

➵ THE STORY: Zera, our MC, is a Heartless, which means her heart is in the possession of a witch she has to serve if she ever wants to get her humanity back. When tensions between the witches and the human kingdom of Vetris escalate, Zera is ordered to infiltrate the court as a potential suitor for Prince Lucien, and steal his heart as a bargaining chip to prevent the impending war.

➵ THE CHARACTERS: Zera is such a badass babe. She has severe PTSD, and often has to battle with self-hatred, a fight I know all too well, but she still finds the strength to make (bad) jokes and not lose sight of her hope for happiness. I admire her for how fragile her bravery is, how she barely manages to keep her balance on the tightrope between humanity and monstrosity and still somehow makes it through each day. Every character is so layered and well-built. Their actions are never straight-forward and their personalities are so complex I found it hard to decide who to trust at any given moment. Even the side characters are convincing and round, not mere sketches.

➵ THE WORLDBUILDING: The world is incredibly original and well-thought out, with lots of kingdoms and at least three different races. The customs and mythologies felt fresh and unfolded gradually with the plot, and I do hope they are developed further in the upcoming books.

➵ THE PLOT: The story moves along swiftly, with twists and turns at every corner. The characters move with the reader, discovering clues fast instead of spending entire chapters pondering what we've already guessed. There are plenty of unexpected plot points which kept me entertained even when I thought I had unraveled some mystery, and the jaw-dropping ending is sure to keep me up at night until the next books comes out.

➵ THE ROMANCE: Zara and Lucien's relationship is full of snarky banter, shifting alliances and heart-warming tenderness. They draw each other in like magnets and push apart with the same force, leaving me starving for more.

➵ OVERALL: I cannot stress how complex this book is. Nothing is black-and-white, no-one's decisions are driven by one motive alone, and the presence of the common people and their fate amid poverty and fear of witches is put in as much focus as the intrigues of the court.

My heart is still pounding with excitement and joy. I can't wait for you guys to read this in June, and hopefully share my anticipation of future books!

The majority of new fantasy books lately have been boring me to tears. Too much time describing pointless things and no real characters! I was automatically drawn into the cover and blurb here, so I hoped it wouldn’t fall into that same endless loophole I’ve been stuck in! And I’ll have to say, this book was so much fun!

Finally, interesting characters! I loved Zera’s snarkiness and the constant battle she had with her inner monster. Loved Lucien! The romance is an incredible slow and beautiful burn, because Zera is on a mission to take Lucien’s heart, literally. The action was great with addicting writing! And that ending! Bring me book 2!

I’m all for stealing some hearts!!!

This book. THIS BOOK. I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this story that I had only recently heard of at the time I received a copy - but it exceeded any expectations I could have possibly mustered. Zera is a fierce force to be reckoned with and a strong character whose mettle garners your every attention. I look forward to seeing where her story takes her in what I hope to be the next installment.... because the ending left me absolutely floored. Truly, give this one a go.

What unexpected and pleasant surprise! The book started a little slow, but before I knew it I was thoroughly dazzled by the main character Zera. Her internal battle is one of my favorite storyline plots. She is conflicted with the monster inside her and the life of a heartless. I think that Wolf has a great concept with the evil vs. real evil plot. My only issue was that the book ended on a cliffhanger and I have to wait.

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf is a young adult fantasy read that from the moment I saw the cover I began a stalking campaign to get my hands on this book. Thankfully this one turned into one of the times that the story lives up to the beautiful cover and I didn’t regret my obsession with getting a copy.

What Sara Wolf has done with this story is taken a new twist on a zombie like character. Zera is what is known as a Heartless. When Zera’s family was killed by Heartless a witch, Nightsinger, decided to spare Zera by making her into a Heartless instead of letting her die by taking her heart and with it she has control of Zera. A Heartless though is very zombie like in the urge to murder and their need for raw meat but still looking human and hanging onto a thread of her humanity Zera wants nothing more than her heart back and to be human again.

When Nightsinger is approached to allow the use of Zera to infiltrate and get close to Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane Nightsinger makes Zera an offer she can’t refuse. If Zera can attempt to pass as human and win the Prince’s heart to allow Nightsinger to take his heart she will trade it for Zera’s own and grant her freedom and her life back. Battling the monster inside of her Zera vows to bring Nightsinger the Prince but if she fails Nightsinger will crush her own heart.

It didn’t take long when starting to read this one to know I was really going to like Zera with her snarky comebacks showing her strong will even being a zombie like creature. And while the story with the Prince didn’t give off a lot of surprises I did think though that the secondary characters and the relationships were a winner too. The story did have a bit of a slow pace to it and perhaps could have used a bit more action with the length but it still kept my attention all the way to the surprise cliffhanger ending. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next installment of this story to see where the author takes the characters next.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Bring Me Their Hearts is a perfect YA fantasy read. It has masterful worldbuilding, fascinating and complex characters, plenty of action and a swoon-worthy romance. This book is so good, I was engrossed in the story from the first chapter and couldn't tear myself away till I got to the last (shocking) page. I need the second book right now. After the mind blowing last chapter, I need to know what's in store for Zera, Lucien, Fione, and Malachite.

What a fun ride! Bring Me Their Hearts introduces us to Zera, a kick-butt heroine who stole my heart (hehe) right from her first scene. She is strong and smart and has a great sense of humor, along with delightfully sharp-edged sarcasm. Despite her supernatural nature, she is also a very human character, with flaws that she openly acknowledges and strives to overcome over the course of the book.

The romance was very sweet but the relationship that stood out for me was the mother-daughter bond that gradually developed between Zera and Y’shennria. This relationship was instrumental in pushing forward Zera’s character growth, and it was executed brilliantly.

The magic system was also very interesting. The way witchcraft is used in this world reminded me of old folk tales and added a delightful fairy tale-esque quality to the book. The book also had a nice suspense element that I was not expecting and that definitely made the story all the more fun.

On the down side, I will say that the world building could have been fleshed out better. However, given that we’re getting two more books, I’m hopeful we’ll get some more descriptions and background stories in future instalments. Also, while I liked Prince Lucien, our male lead, as well as his interactions with Zera, I do wish we had spent more time with him and had seen more of his character development. But again, I’m sure we will be seeing more of that in the next books, especially given how the book ended (No, no, don’t worry, I won’t spoil the ending).

I cannot finish this review without mentioning my darling Malachite, Prince Lucien’s bodyguard. He was my favorite character next to Zera. With his dry humor, his relentless loyalty to Lucien and his general badassness, he was definitely a show stealer.

Also, I must say that I totally fell in love with the cover design the moment I saw it. I’m definitely going to get myself a physical copy of the book so that I can admire it some more ‘in person’.

There’s so much more I could say about this book and the characters. Overall, this was a really good first entry in what promises to be an awesome fantasy series. If you like your fantasy books filled with unique magic, action and a generous sprinkling of romance, definitely check out this book.

I received this book from #NetGalley for free in exchange for a honest reviews.

Guys listen.... This book was amazing. I have never read a book by this author and she moved straight up there to the top 5. I will now have to read more of her other books. I hope they don't disappoint.

This book did not disappoint. I am assuming there will be another book after this one. So with that being said, I will pick up book 2. I am not sure if this will be 2 books or going to be more books but I loved this first book.

Sara Wolf is a national treasure. Her Lovely Vicious series changed my life. When I saw that Goodreads updated her list of works to include a new book late last year, I immediately added it (without even reading the blurb first, that is how much faith I have), but once I did read it I knew without question that this new story was going to be epic and that June wait was going to be killer. Then within a couple of months it popped up on NetGalley. Acting accordingly, I nearly broke my wrist and sent my tablet flying from clicking the link so hard and fast only to see that it’s part of the “wish list” and the publisher may or may not release it to me. Imagine my complete shock and amazement when my wish was granted a few days later! BLESS!

I don’t think I came up for air once I started. Bring Me Their Hearts is everything - captivating, alluring, heartbreaking, DAMN sexy, thrilling, lush, vivid, heart pounding, fist clenching, anxiety inducing, jaw dropping, and any other noun/verb combo that I could ever come up with! I have NEVER been so fidgety during the final pages of a book before in my life! 😭

If you have had the pleasure and experience of reading Sara's Lovely Vicious series than our lead girl Zera will definitely give you Isis vibes. She's quick, sharp, and funny! And her story broke my heart.

Lucien is deliciously flawed, mysterious, and conflicted and I ate up his scenes with Zera. Those two are pure, absolute magic! 😍 Sara has this insane ability to create these amazing strings of dialogue that are so real and raw that you are dumbfounded by its brilliance. I will never get enough of her writing and will be rereading her books for years to come.

I am so thankful to Entangled Teen for making my wish come true and giving me the chance to read one of my most anticipated reads of the year early. That ending did a whole lot of nothing to help make the wait for book 2 any easier, but at least I can look forward to June when this shiny beauty will finally be in my hands. Do yourself a favor and catch up on Sara's past publications and then add Bring Me Their Hearts to your June MUST READ list. You will come out on the other end better for it!
