I am so shook. My mind is running on maximum speed, and I kind of want to cry.
This blew my mind. I can’t, it was so amazing. I hadn’t expected it to be as good as it was, for some reason. I died.
I loved the whole thing with the hunger being able to control the Heartless, and also the whole crying blood thing freaked me out, but I loved it anyway.
Its just a really good book, and I am looking forward to the next book, even if there is a really long time to wait…

Y'ALL THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! This will be spoiler free so do not fret but, this book was damn good! It gives you ToG and Winner's Trilogy vibes because of the characters and setting. Just can't wait for everyone to pick it up on June 5.

If you are a fan of Sara Wolf and her writing style/characters/and pluck, this book will be everything you wanted. The story is an original take on witches and their familiars with the usual sarcastic undertones that Sara Wolf is known for. While this is great if you are a big fan of her work, the repetitiveness of the character's personality and the situation threw me off. While I enjoy the snark, the main character felt like all the other main characters Sara has written in the past. This could have easily just been an alternate reality version of Isis from the Lovely Vicious series, just in a different timeline/world. While all authors have a sort of flavor to their writing and their characters, carbon copies can get boring and that's what I found with this book.

With the recent trend of my highly anticipated 2018 reads being disappointments, I’m happy to announce that this one was was a lot of fun with a unique female lead to carry the weight of a new series.

“Bring Me their Hearts” tells the story of Zera, a young woman who was saved by a witch and now lives out her days without her heart and hungry for blood. When the opportunity arises to gain her freedom she jumps at the chance to play her part and seduce the Prince, but when forced to interact with a world she’d left behind and unite with a group of people desperate to bring hope to a kingdom plagued by fear, she’s left to wonder is she truly heartless?

I’m going to start with the one big critique I have because it might just be something that bothers me but when the world is set is a different place in time or in a certain setting the language used is so important, the beginning of this was rough for me because there was such a sharp contrast between the fantasy kingdom setting and the modern language used by the characters. In part I’m sure it’s a way to pin her wild upbringing against that of nobility but it took me out of it a couple of times.

Now on to what I enjoyed!

The main thing has to be our lead character because so often, and in fantasy especially, we see a heroine go into the story having to face off against an outside antagonist and it was so fascinating to see her also have to deal with a vocal inner monster with an insatiable appetite for blood and violence. The constant back and forth between this darkness and Zera herself added another layer to the conflict that I look forward to seeing more of.

The romance in these always follow a certain formula and this is really no different but I have to say I enjoyed the banter between these two and there’s a bit of a suggestion (I don’t know if that’s the right word but I don’t want to use ‘tease’ in this context) of a side wlw love story that I hope we get to learn more about because we so rarely get those kind of pairings!

This book does a good job with creating the characters though there is still more to be worked through with the world itself and the mythology of both the witches and the creatures that I hope the next books try to cover and with that ending I’ll be hoping we get the sequels sooner rather than later!

This book's interesting premise and exciting beginning were spoiled by the writing. In the opening scene, the main character is presented before the king, queen, and prince. Humorous sarcastic thoughts were fun to read, and the verbal exchanges between royals and young ladies made this book seem promising. Sadly, at 30% into the book, there were no other court scenes, only background and context for the kingdom's current state of affairs and a very immature main character's narration of how she came to be enslaved by a witch. No thank you.

I was given a free copy in exchange of an honest review. I wanted to love this book...i wanted really bad... but no... it did nothing for me. I hated the characters, the prince, the witch... everyone. In fact, i liked the boldness of zera , she has a goid sense of humor. But other than that, i was not impressed... i still give it two star for the fact that the dialogs are good and funny...

I loved this book!!! I'll admit, I was very hesitant to read this once I found out it was the first book in a trilogy. In my experience, trilogies rarely turn out being all that great but I decided to just go for it and I have NO REGRETS!!! This book is engaging from the first page to the last and I loved the main character, Zera.

Zera used to be an ordinary human until her family was attacked by a group of bandits. A witch named Nightsinger saved Zera from being killed by taking her heart and making her into a Heartless- which is an immortal soldier that is controlled by whichever witch is holding her heart. For the most part, Zera's only real responsibility is protecting Nightsinger's home from hunters and assassins who are always seeking out witches to kill due to the bounty on their heads; ever since the last war between humans and witches, any person with the ability to use magic is immediately captured and executed. This author did such a spectacular job building this world that I could go on forever about the different aspects of it but I won't because then you wouldn't read it and that would be a travesty.

So, in order for Zera to get her heart back from Nightsinger, she has to go behind enemy lines and steal the heart of the crown prince, Lucien. She manages to get into the castle under the guise of a possible bride for Lucien and captures his attention due to her bold personality. The more time she spends with him, though, the more she remembers what it was like to be human and the more difficult her mission becomes.

This book will put you through the wringer emotionally but man, it'll be worth it. I just love how each of these characters were written. Zera is just so sassy and I really felt like I was able to connect with her. I had originally started marking all the passages that amused me until I realized I was marking almost the entire book and decided to just accept the fact that I appreciate everything about it.

This book is spectacular and the only possible complaint I could have is that it ended on a cliffhanger and now I NEED the second book but the cliffhanger was just too well-done for me to even be all that mad about it.

5/5 stars for this.

I received this book from the publisher as an ARC. Thank you!!

This novel was a very good read. The story is told from first person point of view. We see her struggles as she fights against her nature as a Heartless, one who's heart was taken by a witch. The Heartless serve the witch, since they become immortal, forget their past, and do not age unless their heart is returned to them. They protect the witches and are trying to prevent a war with the humans. Zera is sent on a mission by the witches to steal the heart of Prince Lucien d’Malvane. Zera agrees since she is trying to get her heart and those of two others. She is sarcastic, a thief, a fighter, and fighting the monster inside her. Lucien still grieves over the death of his sister, despises the royal court, and steals to help the poor of his city. When they meet, tensions fly. Both have agendas, but neither expected the feelings they would have for the other. The more time they spend together, the realize they both want to prevent war. However, Zera has been lying to all. When the times comes, will she be able to take Lucien's heart and let the monster win? The ending was something I did not expect!! I look forward to reading the next novel in the series!!
