I was worried that this would be an unintelligible mess. I was thankfully wrong. It's over-the-top, sure, but it was creepy and violent and a lot of fun.
Dark night metal deluxe gives you the big fight against the 'corrupted batmans' vs the justice league.. It's good, as you get to see how each of them are built to handle each foe like separate halves of batman. It's terrifying and yet highly interesting to watch how each of them fight and able to almost conquer everything. Even the bat family makes their appearance as hope seems to be lost. In the end, of course Justice will prevail and it's a rather unique way for DC to do it as I don't normally see them win this way. The writing of the entire story is decently done and not many loop holes. There is some jumping back and forth which could be confusing but all comics tend to when they are this big.
The artwork is very nice, I actually enjoy that as even though this is a "dark verse" it's visually appealing to me, and I can stare at it for a long while. Each panel whether it is suppose to be dark or almost hopeless seems to work out just fine for each one and is made you to think that way as well. I would read it again as it's an interesting arc that DC comics came up with.
In Dark Nights: Metal, Batman is the man with a plan. The world's greatest detective knows the end is coming and he sits in the center of it all. In an unwavering story of best friends, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman lead an all-star team of heroes against the dark multiverse and it's army of evil Batman dark knights. I stayed up way too late caught up in the action, as things look bleak unlikely alliances and the lasso of truth play a big part in saving the day. Splendidly colorful and nicely drawn, the art pleases the eye and the story provides an abundance of entertainment. I love the splashes of humor sprinkled throughout that lighten up a nerve wracking, dark tale for a great read by a great writer. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
As I read, I kept feeling like I was missing little pieces of the story here and there (and maybe I was--you're probably supposed to read this interspersed with other issues from this series and its spinoffs or something). It was interesting, but not that great. This collection isn't even complete, from what I can see--things just sort of stop, mid-scene, with no real resolution. I like the idea of the various dark Batmen from alternate worlds all teaming up to attack ours, but the reasons behind it seem a bit less than compelling. Then I started into Dark Nights Rising and started to get some background on the Batmen: the Green Lantern Batman, the Doomsday Batman, etc. So maybe it's just a product of the order in which I'm reading this stuff, but it really doesn't seem very cohesive. Also, everything is just dark, dark, dark right now, with very little hope that things might be turned around (basically, they have to be, eventually, right?).
The Dark Multiverse! Multiple Batmen! A mystery of the metals! This series is incredible. I would give it ten stars if I could.
A rollicking, silly superhero story...but that’s the point. Snyder and Capullo are masters of the medium and they throw everything into Metal that makes comic books fun, exciting, and sometimes a bit over the top. The results are mixed, but this is an enjoyable read - the comic equivalent of a summer blockbuster.
