I am a BIG fan of this authors and I loved the Billionaire series but this series has been tougher to love. I did enjoy book 1 and 2 in the series but this one was just too redneck for me to enjoy and with the serious age gaps it was a really tough sell for me.
This is Knox's story, he is the middle brother who is also a bastard and he meets Lexi, who is Nat's (from book 2) bestie. Knox and Lexi have a one night stand and things escelate from there. I don't want to spoil too much from the book. Knox is 23 to Lexi's 28 and while normally 5 years is nothing 23 and 28 are really different stages of life and so I had issues with that aspect of the story.
Now this series is about redneck brothers so I expect that but then there is the stalker and the way he gets his buddies at the police station to help and lets not forget how he stalks and chases Lexi around town. It was just way too much for me to buy and I felt the author went way overboard.
➳An unexpected encounter between two people who are known to be the complete opposites, make it change their lives for a turn of events that will forever bound them together...
➳I have never read this author before, and I am so glad I finally got the chance to do so since I DEVOURED this romance novel in one sitting/sleep time for me (I'm going to be dead at work today...) At first, when starting the novel from the guy's point of view, Knox, I was confused as to how the story was being led on because I had not read the previous books in this series. The previous characters of the first and second book were mentioned and I was not in the loop of understanding their story plot. Other than that, once we meet the female protagonist, everything changes. The world surround the two main characters of this novel seems to dissolve and they focus just on themselves. Lexi is an... odd... interesting... individual. She is described as someone who only wears and likes black, adores the horror of making other people scared of their life, and has a strong suit that says "don't f**k with me."
➳After both characters are brought upon the idea of their chemistry expanding, you start to see the sparks flying everywhere. Knox is just such a tease when it comes down to sexual favors and Lexi is right there with him, together making the perfect sexual partners I have read in a long time. Their funny or more so to say, comedic encounters, always bring them to love more of each other. Obstacles are put in the way when an unexpected "surprise" happens, and also Lexi has a stalker that can never let her go. This is what brings Lexi to struggle with trying to admit to herself that she is ready to move on from her past, and though she does not trust everyone she can finally trust someone who will be by her side through everything, just as Knox wants to be.
➳Overall this romance novel by Jessica Clare has become one that I will for sure recommend to anyone looking for a possessive alpha male that wants nothing more than to spend his time with the love of his life and make a life out it. A future. Somethings that did trigger me to not giving this novel a fully rating of five stars is the fact that [main characters have an age gap. Meaning, Lexi is twenty-nine, while Knox is twenty-four. I am not really a big fan of reading romances where the female protagonist is older, and I don't judge people in real life about it. But in the fictional world I like the male to be older than the female for sure. Thank you to Berkley Romance for providing this copy that I will surely be happy to recommend to anyone who is interested in reading this series. I will for sure have to go back and read the previous books that I missed out on.
Dirty Bastard was a quick read, and kept me interested enough that I read it all in one sitting. Despite Knox's crudeness I liked him and his family. However, I found myself annoyed with Lexi. Her unwillingness to compromise and her blatant disregard for her own safety and not telling her BFF or Knox about a very crazy and scary stalker annoyed me. I know she had a bad marriage before, but that's no reason not to mention to someone that she's being stalked (I know she made an attempt to go to the cops and they blew her off, but telling Knox or Natalie would been a better option than nothing.)
I wish there had been a little more of the after, we never got to see her tell Natalie she was pregnant. Never got to see anything about Seth's death either, which I felt should have been mentioned a bit more than it was tbh.
I really liked that Knox didn't have time for the looking for sugar daddy girls and could spot fakeness a mile away, an important skill for a man of wealth.
I had a less than happy reaction to the second book in the Roughneck Billionaires series, so I approached Dirty Bastard with low expectations which were immediately blown out of the water. Lexi is the prickly, goth, yoga instructor who likes to scare small children and sleep in haunted houses. Knox is the trailer living, bearded, cynical, roughneck billionaire who decides she's the one for him.
Their back and forth banter was funny. Their chemistry was undeniable. Lexi was frustrating and infuriating, but give any hero a steady, sure, loyal love for the heroine and I'M IN.
I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I’m a little unsure about my own feelings when it comes to Jessica Clare’s roughneck billionaires. Yes, these Price brothers from different mothers are similar in their crude, blunt ways and as they’re the opposite of smooth and sleek and schmoozy, they’re refreshingly different from the suit-clad businessmen with their ability to get everything they want. But these brothers are also sometimes unavoidably simplistic and they do in some ways, remind me of Alexa Riley’s heroes who fall hard and instantly with the burning need to claim women they see at first glance as theirs.
Knox equating a one-night stand with the notion of forever does seem somewhat excessive, but the instalove that Knox feels isn’t really out of character for these Price brothers however. ‘Dirty Bastard’ does however, take a direction I didn’t expect or like nonetheless. I should have been expecting this considering the sheer stupidity of Lexi going into an affair with Knox for the express and calculated purpose of avoiding her stalker. From the start, Lexi runs away and keeps running away when this night (again due to her own recklessness) results in unintended though not unexpected consequences, then using her own issues as ammunition to petulantly refuse everything Knox offers made her thoroughly unlikeable. Acting like a spoilt teen makes their 5-year-age-gap (older woman, younger man) of no consequence as a result, as Lexi seems to regress into someone who sits on a raised chair while waiting for Knox to climb the uphill battle on his own to get into her ‘good’ graces.
From here onwards, I struggled hard to continue the book, not just because of the storytelling and characterisation that at times, made both Knox/Lexi seem like high-school figures rather than the adults they are, but also because of the way Lexi sat high and mighty while poor Knox had to bend backwards for her. As Lexi used Knox’s age as an excuse to get out of commitment by saying *he* was the one who wanted to play the field when all he did was want the opposite made me throw in the towel in the end. Not being able to get behind this pairing was almost a guarantee when there was an annoying protagonist whom I felt just didn’t deserve the title of ‘heroine’ at all, nor of Knox.
This one was not for me. A little too immature for me. I almost quit reading after the first chapter and the behavior of cigarets in someone's drink. Just not for me
I loved this book!!! I think it’s my favorite of the series! There were so many heart racing situations that I could literally feel my palms getting sweaty and my blood rushing in my veins. Clare’s ability at making you feel just as much of a part of the story as her characters is astounding! It is the main reason Clare will always be on my automatic buy list.
I think Lexi and Knox were my favorite characters because they were just so odd!!! Lexi was just so weird and funny and Knox was so willing to do whatever he could to make her laugh. I loved her antics and her sarcasm and I loved how Knox just wanted to mess with everyone around him, it didn’t matter if they were strangers or his family. I loved how she embraced her weirdness and made sure everyone knew how she felt. She was just so much fun to read! I did feel like reaching through the pages and strangling her a few times because of her stubbornness but I got over it. I loved it- did I mention that?
And Knox! God he was soooo sweet! It was so funny reading about all the strange ways he tried to woo Lexi. I would definitely have a hard time having a date a hunted hotel and a graveyard but it worked for them. He was just everything every woman wants in a man! They were the best odd couple! The jokes about Knox being younger than Lexi were laugh out loud funny! He was just one of those guys that wanted love and family and happiness. That’s all that mattered to him.
I do wish there was more interactions with the other characters but like the other books in this series the main focus was on Lexi and Knox. That was ok but I do wish we got to see the others more.
This book was fast paced and so sweet! I loved Lexi and Knox! This book was just the book I needed to read right now. It was loving and steamy and had all the right ingredients to make it a perfect contemporary romance. Sooo good!!!
Knox is one of THE Prices. He's a billionaire who dresses like the Duck Dynasty guys and lives in a double wide trailer. Sick of greedy women who just want his money he is mesmerized when he meets Lexi an anti-social all black wearing snarky woman. Lexi isn't looking for a relationship but Knox is beyond sexy and great for a one night stand. One night turns into more and their romance is never dull. Fun romance!
