Great story. Suspense is very well-handled. I was pulled in on the first page and the interest built all the way until the end. Highly recommend.

This book was a little slow at the beginning but then it got progressively better. By the middle I was completely sucked in and couldn't wait to see what happened next. Now I need to read the one before this one as it was referred to in the book and now has me curious! Thank you #netgalley for letting me read #ADaughterIsADaughterforAllofTheirLives!

Wow! This is the first book that I have read from this author, but I am definitely going to search for more to read now. This was well written and suspenseful. It hooked me from page one and didn't let me go.

Who is this young girl? Detective Nick Cross & his partner Mitchell Parker need to find out who this young girl is. She was found by a couple running on the road naked and scared for her life. They know that there is no time to lose as they have just been told that she has a baby somewhere. But the victim isn't talking so they don't have too much to go on and Cross knows that they have to find the baby The young girl has been called Molly can't remember everything but she knows that something bad is about to happen. With Cross looking for clues they find two bodies and the case is just starting to heat up. The FBI is involved which means Agent Weller is on the case and they don't see eye to eye. There is nothing easy about the case as Molly now has been found her real name is Emily and she has been missing for eight long years and she was kept in a house with other girls but she doesn't know if they are still alive. With so many doubts and not enough clues is Cross on the wrong path and will it be too late for the others? Weller is gone off on his own path and Cross just knows that the killer is from around here and he just can't give up. And knowing that there are other young girls there makes the case even more important. How can one man have taken so many girls over the years and no one noticed? When Cross finds his clue it breaks the whole case open but it means more bodies and even more heartbreak for the parents of the missing girls. Will Cross be able to make time for his family and all the other challenges that he has going on? Or will it all be too much for him? Will he be able to close the case and be happy with the results? A good solid read. Not too sure if I like the ex too much she seems very insecure and Cross seems to want to baby her all the time. Cross is cocky and sometimes too sure of himself but deep down he will never give up looking for the answers. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

I am very sorry to say but I did not finish this book. I tried twice but after 80 pages or so I realized that I did not remember much of what I read. What I especially didn't like, and what kept me from reading on, was the descriptions as: 'the forty-something woman'. This kept on going for every person and for almost every time they made an appearance.
I gave the book two stars because I was really interested in reading it but sadly it was not for me.
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me this opportunity.

My review on this book is a bit scattered...on one hand, I really enjoyed the story and the plot, on the other hand I absolutely hated the FBI agent Wheeler and how childish his behavior was. I also felt like the storyline for Meg's play was very distracting from the plot of the book and it would have been a stronger read without it. Also there were a lot, I mean a lot of characters in this story and I felt it hard to remember who was who at times.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I took off a star because I felt there was too much babble at times. I was really engrossed it what happened to Molly! I'd recommend this book.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the author for a review copy of A Daughter is a Daughter for All of their Lives, the second novel to feature Detective Nick Cross of the Mount Pleasant Police.

When a young girl is found running naked down a country road with obvious signs of abuse Nick and the team swing into action. "Molly" as they christen the girl has recently given birth but can't tell them anything as she is in deep shock. Looking for the missing baby they stumble across two graves and discover that they are hunting a serial killer.

A Daughter is a Daughter for All of their Lives is a bit of a mixed bag. Some parts of the novel are tense and exciting and what has happened to the girls is horrific although, fortunately, Ms Bainbridge doesn't dwell on the detail, preferring to use broad brushstrokes and the reader's imagination but somehow it all seems a bit superficial. I must admit that I guessed the perpetrator and what had happened to the baby almost immediately so that may have coloured my judgement.

The novel has a strange dichotomy between the horrific crimes and the sickly, cozy home life that Nick has. I understand that Ms Bainbridge is trying to show that crime investigators can have a good life outside of work but it doesn't work for me. It just seems strange and unnatural, particularly his wife Meghan's infinite support.

As a straightforward plot driven novel A Daughter is a Daughter for All of their Lives works well.

This book starts off grabbing you and it keeps ahold of you throughout the whole book. Great storyline and characters that you will come to know and care for. Ruth Bainbridge does it again with the 2nd Detective Nick Cross book. Ride along with Det. Cross as he hunts for the serial kidnapper/rapist/murderer who has been abducting and keeping young girls for years even decades. If you can only read 1 book this should be the book you pick! Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC book for giving you the readers my fair and honest opinion.
