In Helena Hunting’s latest, The Good Luck Charm, childhood sweethearts Lilah and Ethan are suddenly reunited when Ethan is traded back to the hometown hockey team. These two have a lot of history to deal with before they reach their HEA. Their journey is the fun part of the book. This is at times not an easy read, but definitely worth it for the ultimate resolution. Besides, Ethan is very sexy!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

I adore Helena Hunting writing. I mean her stories are always funny, witty, and entertaining. When I saw that The Good Luck Charm was coming out, I had to read the story. Seriously, I had a good time with Lilah and Ethan.

We have a second chance love story with The Good Luck Charm. Lilah and Ethan have a history. They were friends, then lovers, and finally they broke up. Both were hurting by Ethan's decision, but are too stubborn to fix it. Fast forward to eight years later, and they are brought together again. Now Ethan is going to do everything in his power to get them back together, after all it must be fate.

Lilah isn't sure about Ethan, and through most of the story she's guarding her heart against Ethan. He did break once, why would she want that to happen again. Ethan was dumb when he broke up with Lilah the first time, because he thought he was doing the right thing. We have him trying to win Lilah again. He has work cut in the story.

Anyway, I did enjoy The Good Luck Charm, Lilah had to overcome her fears with being hurt again. I love one the quotes in the story "Love has the potential to cause pain. It's a risk, and I think this is one worth taking." Sometimes love is a risk, but it's worth it. Anyway, I did have fun with Lilah and Ethan in this story. So, if you are a sucker for second-chance love stories, The Good Luck Charm is your read.

Another sports second chance romance that I definitely fell head over heels for. I couldn't get enough of this book. I couldn't get enough of it.

This book is another book that kept my emotions ping ponging. I was up and down so much, I felt like I was on a hilly roller coaster. Giggles, sadness, and angst for one, please. I seriously thought for sure I was going to need a mood stabilizer with this one.

Ahhhh, the characters in this book. Almost perfect. Hunting did a great job and not just developing these characters, but also at building their chemistry. I love when I can feel the chemistry with the characters. I am not just talking about the hero and heroine either. I could feel the chemistry between all of the characters. They each had a unique bond with one another.

This book is part growing up, part moving on, part finding yourself in someone else, part lifetime bonding, and part self discovery. There couldn't be a better recipe for this one. This is hands down my favorite book of this author's, even though I haven't read all of her books yet.

I love Helena Hunting! I had a hard time connecting with this story, so this is not my favorite of her's. I still like it and would recommend it.

Lilah could use a Good Luck Charm for sure! Her husband of 6 years is filing for divorce and her ex boyfriend/best friend just waltzed back into town. On top of that, the man she views as a father figure had a stroke and she might lose him too. Ethan (the exboyfriend) wants Lilah back. He thinks having her in his life again will give him back his hockey playing mojo. Just what every girl wants right? To be wanted as a good luck charm and not for love.

Lilah was a really likable character. I felt sympathy for her! She is a nurse who wants to get her masters in nursing. She is in a field dedicated to helping and she wants to help more! Her marriage fell apart and she is facing her first love after he abandoned her. I wanted to just hug her and keep her safe! I totally agreed with her inability to trust Ethan. How could she trust him after he bailed on her for hockey?

Ethan does realize the mistake he made in leaving Lilah. He does grovel pretty well and as much as I wanted to dislike him for his poor choices in the past, I found it was hard to hold on to that anger. Second chance romances are always tough for me-I find that sometimes I can't get past why they broke up in the first place. Personally, I get so invested and feel that one of the characters was so wronged, I can't forgive the other character. But, this second chance worked. Partly because Ethan is a likable guy, partly because Lilah was able to forgive him (but not so quickly it made me roll my eyes), and partly because Hunting is just a good author. While The Good Luck Charm will tug at your heart and isn't totally angst free, it is pretty light overall and I loved that. I was not looking for an angst fest! This story balanced drama and levity very well!

If you like second chance romances, The Good Luck Charm is a first-class read.

Everything happens in threes and it isn't positive news for Lilah as she discovers a new patient at the hospital she works as a nurse is a father figure to her and he's suffered a stroke. This news after receiving her divorce papers from her ex is a lot to take in and difficult to handle until the guy who broke her heart appears...he is the son of the patient after all. Could her day get any worse?

Ethan Kase is back in Minnesota after being traded. The upcoming hockey season will be a make or break for his career. He has barely had a chance to settle back in his home city when news of his father's stroke sends him straight to the hospital and back to the woman he left eight years ago...an action he has regretted every day since.

I've never picked up a Helena Hunting novel before so I began reading this book with no expectations as to what to expect. In this situation, I really enjoy and appreciate when the words flow effortlessly and the narrative drags you into the protagonist's story. The Good Luck Charm definitely had me invested in within the plot after only a few pages and with the characters very quickly.

The title gives away a huge clue about a major plot thread...the behaviour of pro sports people and their rituals before major events. Ethan is no exception. Until this topic is broached, I adored the hero. However, his neediness triggered by his rekindled romance with Lilah turned my stomach. Ms Hunting's writing allows her readers to feel all the emotions felt by the protagonists...the good and the not so good. However, there's no doubt, Ethan and Lilah are meant to be together, once all their issues have been dealt with and filed away.

Despite my hiccup over my views of Ethan, I adored both him and Lilah together. They complement and respect for one another gives a satisfying happy ending. As for me, I've found a new author to follow...win-win!

What a sweet, emotional story and heart warming story. This is a little bit different from what I have read from Helena Hunting yet so good! The Good Luck Charm is a second chance sports romance.

Lilah and Ethan grew up together and they were best friends. When Ethan has to leave he breaks up with Lilah. Years later, life will bring him back but things will be not the same. Both have to deal with their past and Lilah isn't ready for him. They needed to work through their past feelings.

The romance between them was heavy and intense.I could relate to Lilah and I loved that she grown up through the story.Ethan wasn't my favorite from the beginning but while I was reading the story I find myself falling in love with him slowly.

I would love to see more books like this from Helena Hunting, she is a talented author and her writing was flawless. The Good Luck Charm has some fun, swoon, steamy and lovely moments to keep your interest till the end!

Lilah and Ethan were high school sweethearts, that is until Ethan was drafted into the NHL and decided his career was more important than Lilah.
Being dumped by Ethan nearly broke Lilah, but she managed to pull herself together. She got married and started a very rewarding career. Unfortunately, her marriage has fallen apart and not only does she have to deal with possibly seeing her ex-husband and his new flame but Ethan is back in town and more than a little anxious to be in her life again.
The biggest mistake of Ethan’s life was not following his heart. Breaking up with Lilah was the worst decision he’s ever made; and now that his career is on the line and he been traded to his local hockey team he’s not only working on his career, he’s taking this chance to win her back. But Lilah has had some struggles of her own and getting back in her good graces isn’t going to be as easy as he thought.

I have to admit, I was late to the party when it comes to Helena Hunting books; but once I started I couldn’t stop reading. This book was slightly different for me. I liked the story but I really did not like the characters. Totally unusual for me to not like at least one of them; normally it’s the female but in this case it was both.

Ethan was a different kind of male character of male character, he was so needy!! OMG, I wanted to slap him in the head and say “man up dude!” the guilt he felt over the way he left Lilah had him practically begging her for even the smallest amount of attention. He’s superstitions about how well she made him play where so thick and heavy that I felt smothered.

Then there’s Lilah who kind of goes from “I’ll never let you in my life again” to being at his every “beck and call”. Aside from the two of them driving crazy, I really liked this book. I loved the chemistry between the two, I loved the banter and more importantly I loved the little twist at the end of the story. I love Helena’s wit. I was hooked from the moment I started reading and even got a little sunburned for being so caught up in the story.
With that being said, great beach read.

3.5/5

I'm a sucker for a good second chance romance. In fact, besides the opposites-attract trope, I think it's my favorite romance trope. Anytime I see a book that even fleetingly mentions a second-chance romance, I'm all over it. I love the angst, the growth the characters undergo while apart, and the intensified love the second time around. The Good Luck Charm sounded right up my alley because of that. While not the typical second-chance romance that I am normally used to, this book still had me swooning in delight.

This book is perfect for those of you who like your romance angst and drama-free. There isn't any of the bothersome miscommunication drama that you almost always find in a book. I typically like my romance books to be light on the drama and angst. That being said, I find that I almost always want my second chance romances to have that angst. Going into The Good Luck Charm, I was expecting that and was just a teensy bit disappointed that it didn't deliver. Once I realized that the book was going read more like a romantic comedy that's almost become Helena Hunting's signature, I found myself easily sucked into the story.

Ethan and Lilah were a couple in high school. When the opportunity arose to be part of the NHL, Ethan broke up with her and moved on with his life. Fast forward many years, Lilah is now a successful nurse and Ethan is forced to move back home after a family emergency. Though Lilah tries hard not to be attracted to the new Ethan, she can't help herself and thus, begins a journey of these two highschool sweethearts finding each other again. Both Ethan and Lilah were realistic and very likable characters. They were both goal-oriented, genuine and caring. It was hard not to like these two. They made for an even more special couple together. Their passion and emotional connection were palpable in every scene they shared. It was a treat for me watching them reconnect and getting to know the newer versions of themselves. Helena Hunting knows how to balance out the steamy and the sweet and she shows that here in The Good Luck Charm.

Though I was hoping for something slightly different with The Good Luck Charm, I was still charmed by Ethan and Lilah's story. If you're looking for a delightful and romantic summer read, give this one a try.

I am a huge Helena Hunting fan and honestly could not get enough of The Good Luck Charm (TGLC). Ethan and Lilah had sizzling chemistry, fantastic banter and a heartfelt romance. TGLC felt more emotional than a typical Helena Hunting rom com which was a delightful surprise and change of pace. I felt Ethan's regret and remorse and honestly was hooked from the getgo. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for.more from this author in the future.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Forever Romance for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo! 4 stars, ~Ratula

Helena Hunting knows how to write chemistry between characters. The Good Luck Charm is a wonderful book about what happens when first love gets a second chance. You’ll love the characters and find yourself wanting to know more about what happens after the book ends. If you’re a fan of the Pucked series by Helena, this has mentions of those characters and has a similar feel with the hockey aspect. I loved Lilah and Ethan, and even gasped a couple times as I was reading. There were a few unexpected twists that made this book hard to put down!

Thanks to NetGalley for granting my wish and allowing me an advance copy! All thoughts are my own.

DNF @ 39%.

I really wanted to like this book. The premise sounded like something I'd like, but in the end, hockey was only mentioned in passing (which is something I'd been looking forward to,) and the most interesting character who has shown any sign of growth so far is the heroine's soon to be ex-husband. Also, it's been mentioned several times that while her head doesn't want the hero, her body does. I tried to overlook that - until it showed up again. Twice. In the same paragraph. There's just no depth here, and I don't feel enough curiosity about the characters to continue on.

Good Luck Charm is exactly the type of second chance romance that I love to read. The couple, Lilah and Ethan, have such a natural chemistry that you want to see them make their relationship work and yet...and yet, they have to work for it. I like that there are struggles mixed in with the sweetness--it's this mix of struggle and sweet and sexy and funny that had me glued to my couch for hours today. Even though I knew that it would end happily, I wouldn't be satisfied until I could see exactly how Hunting decided to have it end.

I really enjoyed this light and sexy-sweet romance and all the secondary plots and characters--so much so that I'd be very interested in seeing one of these characters have a spin-off novel. If you're looking for a novel that you can sink into and put down hours later with a smile on your face, Good Luck Charm should be your next read.

Good Luck Charm is a sweet romance focused on Lilah and Ethan, who were a high school couple but went their separate ways. Eight years have passed and their paths have crossed again...what transpires is plenty of fun, emotion, sweetness and sexiness. There is adult content. One of the better "hockey" romances I've read.

4.5 stars.

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I’ve felt in the past that Helena has used too much humour in her books, sometimes shelving the story for funnies. This isn’t the case here. The balance she has achieved is pretty awesome.
The story here is more complex and dramatic than anything I’ve read from her before and I love it.
Ethan is so cute, as well as a little annoying, like a Naughty pet you can’t help but love.
Lilah is strong, but also frustrating when it comes to Ethan.
Again, this book has more drama than I was expecting but I thought it was great, and I think you will too!

I have lusted and inhaled her Pucked Series this year and was so excited to see that she wrote another hockey romance!!!! Good Luck Charm is a bit different from her Pucked series and way more serious and less quirky, BUT Its still super marvelous, especially if you cannot get enough of Second Chance romances! And trust me there are quite some plot twists sprinkled in...

I really enjoyed this former high school sweetharts romance where the couple has to see if they can move on from their painful past... If you are a Helena Hunting fan, you will want to grab this book when it goes live and if you are new to this author go READ IT; and afterwards go read her PUCKED Book Series as she mentions a few of the characters in this book. I hope that Helena will write more about a certain eye candy doctor next... For me, I am going to cry myself to sleep as I have read all the books that Helena Hunting has said she is publishing this year and is it selfish to ask for more?

When I first saw this book on NetGalley, the applications to read this were already closed, however in early July I was granted a wish by the publisher to have the opportunity to read this!! It was my first ever wish granted on NetGalley and I was so pumped to start reading.

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting follows Lilah and Ethan in this dual POV second chance novel. They dated in high school and were completely inseparable until Ethan was drafted into the NHL. Despite the fact that he broke up with her, she has stayed very close to his family for the past eight years. An NHL trade sends Ethan back home and a family emergency sends him directly to Lilah.

The attraction and feelings are still there for both of them, but Lilah can't fully trust him yet. Just when she's starting to figure out how to really let him into her life again, she watches an interview with him stating that she is his good luck charm! So, is this reunion really about getting back the one that got away or is it about stepping up his hockey game?

I was on and off the fence with this one. At first, I loved the story of Lilah and Ethan getting back together because they are so perfect with each other! Plus, the little memories of their past are adorable! However, the way Lilah would always give in to Ethan despite what was in her best interest started to drive me nuts. I mean, she would specifically say how she shouldn't do something, but just do it anyway!

At about 85% or so, the novel really picked up for me and even though I wasn't sure how I felt about it until this time, this really drove it home for me! I loved this little "twist" that the author decided to add - I definitely did not see it coming! Overall, I think fans of Helena Hunting or fans of second change romance novels will really enjoy this one. 4 stars!

The Good Luck Charm is custom made for second chance romance lovers. Helena Hunting gives us some tension mixed with humor, and adds hockey to satisfy sports romance addicts like me. It’s a great combo.

Ethan and Lilah fell in love in high school. Ethan had his sights set on the NHL even back then, and they had their lives planned out together. Unfortunately, Ethan changed the rulebook after graduation and abruptly broke things off with Lilah. Eight years later, circumstances give them a shot at a do-over, but Lilah isn’t eager to hand over her heart to Ethan again.

I respected Lilah for picking herself up after having her heart trampled on and pursuing her own dreams. Her life hasn’t been the easiest, but she seems to have endless compassion. Her connection with Ethan’s parents is heartwarming. I really related to Lilah’s struggle to balance work and her own needs with the demands of those she loves.

What female doesn’t love to feel wanted by their man? Ethan makes it clear that he both wants and needs Lilah in his life. However, he’s too needy for my taste. A little vulnerability is sexy; desperation is not. He loves so intensely to the point of suffocation. I can’t deny the fact that Ethan is a total romantic, though, and his incredibly nurturing nature ups the swoon factor tremendously. I loved the wooing, even though I wouldn’t have minded more groveling on Ethan’s part.

Ethan and Lilah have wonderful chemistry, and I savored their romance reboot. At the same time, Ethan’s strained relationship with his father creates some nice tension.

Some elements of the plot are glossed over and rushed, which is a shame because I think they could have made the story more impactful. In the end, though, this is a very enjoyable second chance romance with lots warmth.

This is a sweet second chance love story, about all consuming love, and the struggle to not lose one's self in the process.

As a spinoff of the author's popular Pucked series, this story features Ethan, an NHL player with a career on the downturn, who has returned to play for his hometown team in Minnesota. That return, and the coinciding medical emergency of his father, puts him squarely in front of his high school sweetheart, who he abandoned eight years prior.

Sometimes I struggle to feel sympathy for the plights of romance heroines, but that was not the case in this book. Not only does Lilah's father abandon her as a child, she is forced to feel those same feelings when Ethan leaves her for big dreams in the NHL. What's worse than that:
* He breaks up with her over the phone!
* He cuts off all contact with her for eight, yes eight years!!
So yes, I may have felt like Lilah and wanted to punch him. Repeatedly.

As the story unfolds, Ethan reveals why he left in such an awful way. Part of it was stupidity, part of it was the belief that it was the right thing for both of them. While his explanation did tone down my anger, I sympathized with Lilah's feelings of anger and hurt.

But what is a girl to do, when a first love/true love, comes back into your life, and begging for a second chance? The reunion is inevitable. And once Lilah gives in, Ethan begins to overtake every facet of her life. Which could be viewed as good or bad.

What I liked about this story was how it explored the impact a player's success on their partner. For Lilah, this rekindled love was something she relished but also struggled with, as time with Ethan began to impact her work and schooling. I'm not sure I would have handled things exactly like Lilah, but I thought it was a smart thing for her to get herself get back on track and not get lost in the love story.

"She needs to be your equal, not a charm you stick in your pocket and carry around with you."

Like the Pucked series, this story captured the sport of hockey realistically, while at the same time, adding fictional elements, both sexy and sweet, to appeal to every romance reader. If you are looking for a light and fun read, this is worth checking out!
