I am SO impressed with Low Carb on the Go! As someone who tries to avoid bad carbs, this book was perfect for me, and would be perfect for anyone regardless of whether they follow a low-carb plan or not. I love the section that explains WHY bad carbs are bad for you and appreciated the chart that shows you the common bad carbs, but then includes an "eat this instead" option. The smoothies look delicious, the bread recipes will come in handy, and the veggie-based dishes look AMAZING. I plan on using a lot of the jarred smoothies, puddings, and salads in my daily eating plan.

These recipes didn't have a million ingredients (my pet-peeve) and the directions were easy to follow. Definitely recommend this cookbook!

I would definitely recommend this low carb cookbook to patients, friends and family. The recipes are healthy and full of whole foods and plant-based ingredients. I appreciate that the recipes contain easy-to-find ingredients and are simple to prepare. I already made the delicious chocolate pudding and cannot wait to try some of the breads.

Thank you DK and NetGalley for an advance readers copy.

I requested this book because
1. I love new ideas
2. I am honestly lazy and wait the quickest solution
I made the terayaki chicken and lemon poppy minis...
Baker of poppies I am not!!!!
The terayaki chicken was divine, quick and easy to make.
Definitely will be picking this up for additional recipe ideas like the oopsies muffins/bread/buns

I was recently told that I have Type 2 diabetes, and that I needed to limit my carbohydrate intake at each meal. The most difficult change for me has been at breakfast time. I am always hungry in the morning, but never have time to sit down for a meal. Instead, I grab something to eat on my way into work, or keep stuff in my desk that I can eat when I arrive. Unfortunately, the low-carb transition has not been easy to work into my routine.

This concept behind this cookbook is the perfect solution to my dilemma. It focuses on creating healthy, tasty low-carb meals that can be easily prepared at home and carried to the office, or elsewhere. I haven’t tried any of the recipes, but many of them sounded quite appealing, and there is a lot of great advice about packing food to maintain its flavor and texture until you are ready to eat it. There were also a number of recipes for low carb breads that could really make a nice addition to a lunchtime salad.

My one disappointment was that so many of the dessert recipes call for the use of stevia, or other low-calorie sugar alternatives. Although I appreciate that Stevia is a natural herbal sugar replacement, I can not abide the bitter aftertaste, nor do I like the taste of other options such as xylitol. If I decide to try any of those recipes, I will have to experiment with adding small amounts of sweeteners such as honey, agave, molasses or maple syrup, and hope that the test and texture of the final product remains appetizing.

But, that is a fairly minor quibble, and I am definitely looking forward to testing out a number of these recipes to help me manage my health over the long term.

An excellent source of information and how to pick low carb options, the recipes are tasty and the information is invaluable!
This is full of ways you can easy reduce your carbon intake, and I enjoy that this looks at it from a meal to meal and overall. This is a good book for those looking to ease in or just swap a few things and make better choices.

I thought this was a nice book for what it was. I try to stick to a low carb diet and am constantly reminding people that low carb doesn't mean no carb. The part I truly loved the most was in the preface:

"The aim of a low carb diet is to reduce, as far as possible, your consumption of poor-quality foods that are high in carbohydrates and focus instead on alternative options and healthy carbohydrates... A sensible approach is to eat fewer carbohydrates on days when you are relatively inactive than on days when you have workouts lined up."

I already knew a lot of the information surrounding simple and complex carbs but for someone just starting out, this can be very helpful and informative. I thought the recipes were good, containing whole, readily available ingredients which covered smoothies, dips, breads, baked treats, as well as a chapter on vegetarian options.

This is a great low carb resource!

Lots of pretty pictures but a lot of the recipes seemed repetitive. For example the breakfast section was mostly variations of yogurt and chia seed smoothies and bowls. It just didn't seem to have any truly inspiring recipes to me.

This book is a fantastic resource of low-carb options to help you lose weight and control your blood sugar levels. As a recent pre-diabetic, I’m always looking for additional information and alternatives to some of my favorite foods. This book definitely proved that there are plenty of tasty options out there. I will definitely use this for a favorite cookbook in my kitchen.

This is a very helpful book. I love how in the beginning it tells you what not to eat and what to eat in place of it.

These are simple yet healthy meals that I can take on the go and I cannot wait to try some.

I am always looking for great low carb recipes that don't leave me missing carbs too much throughout the week, as I eat low/moderate carbs throughout the week. I thought this cookbook would give me a few good recipes to add to my weekly meal cycle, but I came away kind of disappointed. None of the recipes were particularly inspiring or something that I couldn't find with a simple google search. I guess I expect a little more than just nice pictures when I flip through a cookbook. Smoothies are great (though a bit high on the carb end for my lower carb days), but they are very easy to make yourself with no recipe at all.

The first dozen pages is a lecture on carbohydrate metabolism that didn't particularly interest me. I am an Atkins person. No carb is a required carb. FYI your body can make carbs from proteins and fats so you don't have to eat them. Most of us want to because fruit and vegetables are tasty and the fiber is good for us, but there is no RDA for carbs. So I skipped the intro and moved straight to the cookbook.

The books starts with some technical stuff for new cooks. Here there isn't enough detail. For instance, if you follow the recommendation and rinse canned veg you get rid of lot of the salt. If you rinse canned beans, though, you get rid of the aquafaba which is a useful product.

First recipe section is about breakfast and is drinks, smoothies and bowls of this and that, mostly yoghurt. This is pretty normal stuff. Lots of chia seeds. There's a recipe for almond milk, one for avocado-based chocolate pudding, some crunchy muesli. The authors forgot to mention to peel the papaya for a yoghurt bowl. Why do we have to hear that pumpkin seeds are superfoods?

The next section is spreads and breads. More chia seeds. The spreads are either cream cheese based or chia seed thickened pastes. The breads avoid wheat flour, although some include spelt, which of course, is a wheat. You can substitute your own favorite low gluten or low carb breads or crackers or fruit slices under the spreads.

Next is vegetarian meals which are mostly salads in jars.

Note: The authors are very keen on glass containers so nearly everything is shown in glass canning jars with bails which look to be a right pain to eat out of. Really folks, covered glass dishes are ok too.

In this section there is a recipe for kimchi that is shown as if you are to eat it by itself as a salad. Kimchi is normally a garnish. Authentic kimchi will tear your tonsils out and the garlic will certainly not amuse your co-workers.

This section contains the worst recipe in the book, a supposed soup. Fill a jar with chopped veg and herbs. Take to work. When you want to eat fill the jar with boiling water and close it up. Wait 5 minutes then pour into bowl and eat. There is a related "soup" in the meat section adding cooked chicken meat to the jar. For heaven's sake don't try this, it will be awful.

By the time you get to the meat chapter, you realize that this is not really a food on-the go book, this is a pack your lunch for work book, which is OK but it isn't what the publishers blurb says. The recipes are all easy (The snack section, I warn you looks dismal.) and the presentation is clear with very nice little tables of prep time and nutrition for each recipe.

Like the other pack a lunch books I have reviewed, I don't think this book is particularly useful. If you can cook nice meals in your favorite dietary style you don't need a book on how to pack it into a jar.

I thought this book had some good information in the beginning so you knew kind of what you were going to expect if you went the low - carb diet route. I thought the recipes were alright, not sure how many I would cook, I am also a picky eater though. I wanted to see more pictures next to the recipes so I could visualize them as I read it.

LOW CARB ON THE GO by Sandra and Mirco Stupning builds on the popularity of their website and contains "more than 80 fast, healthy recipes" which are meant to be consumed anytime anywhere. The authors (Sandra is a qualified nutritionist) do focus on both the low carb and the "on the go" aspects of their suggestions, with notes about preparation time both at home and away. There also is an "eat this, not that" type summary chart and each recipe lists prep time plus number of servings, calories (per serving?), protein, carbs and fat. The book is divided into several sections (breakfast, breads and spreads, vegetarian, meat and fish, snacks and cakes) which are filled with colorful pictures of treats like bell pepper boats or mini-muffins made with coconut flour. Overall, this seems a rather specialized set of recipes and ingredients, but could be helpful to those willing to invest time in planning and preparing more healthy eating options.

What I love about this book is the breakdown of good carbs vs. Bad carbs. Also, the fact that this is "low" carb and not "no" carb. There was a recipe for every type of diet, including vegetarian. These recipes were thorough, and at the bottom gave the breakdown of prep time at home, and if there is any at work; this book, after all, is meant for "on-the-go." No one would feel like they were missing out on anything, because this book gave very satisfying options. I think I'm most excited for the breakfast recipes, since this is usually my pitfall to my diet. Very well done! Thank you for letting me review!

I really liked this book and found the recipes easy to do and good as I’m trying to eat low carb.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone trying to eat Keto or low carb.
Thanks to Net galley and the publishers for allowing me to review it

Admittedly, I had high hopes for a low carb recipe book that might give me some new inspiration for yummy low carb meals. I'm not strictly keto or even hardcore on the low carb train anymore, but I do try to keep it sensible with my carbs most of the week. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of that here. The book opens with a dozen or more pages featuring high sugar smoothies, complete with mango, agave nectar, and other decidedly NOT low carb ingredients. Sure, some could pass for low carb in comparison to a McDonald's milkshake or something, I suppose, but generally speaking, I was not impressed. There were plenty of jar salads, recipes full of bread replacements (including oopsie rolls, which... should not be in low carb recipe books by now, they're that ubiquitous), energy balls and sweets, etc. I get that a lot of people might like this, but it just wasn't for me.

I read through this book and marked several recipes I plan to make in the coming few weeks! Yumm! I really liked that they explained the concept of this cookbook in the beginning. Everything is super healthy and if you love chia seeds you will probably love this cookbook because a ton of the recipes call for chia seeds! The only thing I would personally change about this cookbook would be to add how much sugar is in every meal. That’s definitely something I look at when cooking and this cookbook didn’t list the sugars in each meal. But over all this is a great book to help you meal prep for whenever you need to go out and just wanna take a fork and container on the go!
