I love best friends who turn to more. Their books army favorite! Grant Phillips and Stacey Winters have been friends a long time. Then one night, things change because of a mistaken identity situation. Stacey is a super romantics and looking for the fairy tale. Grants has had a rough past, going up and doesn't believe in fairy tales. Now, they are realizing that maybe "more than friends" in an option.
Cute story.
I'm a big fan of romance that actually has a story to it and not just the spicy aspect. This book had a nice balance and really kept me interested the whole time. I loved the characters. Grant was adorable and Stacey was sarcastic and relatable. Great read for those who love a little spice in their lives.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
I really like this series. Cute, light reads that you don’t sink too into but still have a ton of heart.
Stacey and Grant have been best friends since they were in grade school, but an accidental romantic encounter opens up the possibility for them to become more.
Stacey is looking for her happily ever after, though. She isn't sure Grant and his commitment issues will be able to fit into that role in her life, and Grant is scared of the possibility he could lose Stacey if a relationship doesn't work out.
I liked the back story that helped explain Grant's views on relationships, and that you can clearly see how important his friendship with Stacey is. Also, it was nice that Stacey's business factored in and played a big part in the story. It really kept her from being a one dimensional character..
There are hints of Grant's brother Aiden's story, but this is a standalone. After finishing it, though, I am going to go back to read Aiden's book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I didn't love this book, which is a bummer because the friends to lovers trope is usually one of my favorites. This is apparently the second book in the Driven to Love series, and maybe there is more about Stacey and Grant in the first book that sets them up as characters, but they're just not fully fleshed characters I care about when reading this as a stand alone read.
Stacey and Grant are best friends. Grant has commitment issues because his mom abandoned him when he was 8 and he bounced around from foster home to foster home, so he has a big no serious relationships rule. Meanwhile his BFF Stacey is constantly on the hunt for "the one" and ends up dating what one assumes is a chain of losers, as the most recent one turns out to have been married. Stacey accidentally makes out with Grant because blackout curtains make it super dark so it makes sense she'd mistake her best friend for her boyfriend, right? …Sure. Anyway, they realize they are making out with each other, not Stacey's boyfriend and Grant's dream, and are like "Well that was a big mistake, haha, let's forget about it." Only suddenly it's like someone flipped the switch and they're both super hot for each other. They try to deny it, give in and kiss, immediately decide that was a mistake, kiss again, call it a mistake… Lather, rinse, repeat, decide to DNF. I got almost halfway through before I just couldn't take it anymore, and the only reason I read that far was because I wanted to see if it's ever explained why Grant's mom abruptly left him in a park in at age 8 and drove off with his 4 year old brother, never to be seen again. Seeing the long road of giving in to temptation and then awkwardly deciding to pretend the latest makeout session never happened stretching before me, I decided I didn't care THAT much. Sorry.
The writing is actually pretty good, but the main characters are such flat cardboard cutouts they don't even have a chance of having real chemistry. Read if you don't care about well-rounded, fleshed out characters and are down for a light, superficial friends-to-lovers story.
I love the friends to lovers trope but this read wasn't my favorite of this genre. I liked the chemistry between the characters, but there was too much angst with Grant. That move he pulled at the end was super jerky to me and made me dislike him. This wasn't a terrible read but it wasn't awesome either.
This is a sexy and sweet friends to lovers novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. The author made me feel connected to the characters and feel invested in their story. I especially enjoyed Grant's back story and the way it influenced his present.
Fans of the genre will love this novel and want to put it on their TBR list. While this is the first book I've read by this author, it won't be the last. I'm looking forward to reading her future books.
Likeable characters, believable chemistry, but too much repetitive angsting leading up to a over-described consummation.
