I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I liked all the angst between the characters. Kayla returned home after 5 years to be in her cousin’s wedding. She immediately runs into her ex boyfriend who lives in the ranch next door. We learn about what happened in the past according to Kayla. Her ex Dylan is still in love with her and tries everything to get her back. Kayla left also to go to vet school and is on her way to finishing up. She tells everyone she is planning to stay in the city and become a partner, much to her parents and Dylan’s disappointment. The story of the past and present is fascinating to read. What a great debut book. Happy to give it 5 Stars.

This is a great debut book from Elsie Davis. I loved the story, I'm a sucker for all things ranch or cowboys, this one nailed both.
Kayla is in Veterinary school and almost finished and decided to take a job in the city with a clinic. Her specialty is small animals. Cats, dogs and the like. She is forced to go home to her cousins wedding and having to face her first love Dylan. These two have some serious history and there's so much packed into this story.
Dylan was her first, and last as he walked away from her 5 years ago after their first time together and he never looked back. He broke her. Her feelings for Dylan ranged from pain, hurt and betrayal and I have to say so did mine. Dylan wasn't my favorite person in this book. He's running a ranch, trying to raise his 13 year old brother and is basically a hard a@@. It's his way or the highway. There's so much going on behind the scenes here between her parents, especially her father and Dylan and Kayla is clueless. Things she tries to do are thwarted, her father is pressing her to stay without explanation and her parents don't know every detail that happened between her and Dylan before she left, nor what she went through after. She does tell Dylan finally, and Dylan does what he does best. Walks away. I liked Kayla and loved the plot. Kayla and Dylans little brother had a great relationship and she seemed to be good for the young man who needed someone who would spend time with him. Not jus throw chores at him and bark. That's what Dylan did, he barked. Some men wear stubborn well, Dylan wasn't one of them. That said, this is still a great story and I can't believe it's a debut book!!
Fantastic job Elsie! I loved it.
