I don't even know where to start with this review. I've read a lot of Sawyer Bennett books and most of the Cold Fury series and many I enjoyed a lot. The last I read in this series, Van, is one of my favorites but this one is a tough one. I can't say I didn't enjoy it at all - I read Marek in a day so I was pretty invested. My issues come from the characters in this story.
Gracen and Marek used to be in love. They had everything and everything pointed toward a rich life full of love and happiness until Marek decided that he needed freedom when his professional career in the NHL started. A couple years later Marek is back in Gracen's life - he just found out that he has a daughter who his ex-girlfriend had kept secret and he basically kidnapped them to stay with him in Raleigh.
Now I get that Marek's mad as hell. I probably would be too. But the way he treated Gracen, especially in the beginning, was despicable. I know he was angry but I completely understood why Gracen would not tell him, after he told her he didn't want the responsibility of a relationship and basically insinuating that he wanted to screw other women. Damn, that man got my blood boiling. His anger wasn't righteous or justified. He threw her away, he threw her love away. Argh! And once he had her and his daughter in his home he kept throwing her mistake in her face and it started to become a toxic environment.
There was too much pushing away and pulling on Marek's side and I never felt that these two should have a relationship ever again. I wouldn't be able to forgive this man, who so thoroughly broke my heart. How can I ever believe that he won't do it again? I couldn't get on board with it...until the end I never felt that this relationship could be mended. Too much resentment was between them and after they came to blows for the last time I actually thought that they had burned the last bridges.
“It may be a good thing I kept her hidden,” I say in a deathly quiet voice. “Because your father skills suck.”
“Fuck, it’s no wonder I wanted out from underneath that fiasco of a relationship we had. You’re a goddamn shrew, Gracie. I just couldn’t imagine being shackled to that for the rest of my life.”
Words have power. And this came in the last 10 percent of the story. How can you come back from that? I'm sorry but I didn't buy it.
Gracen never forgot Marek, despite him hurting her so horribly. While she stood up for herself when he treated her badly she was back in his bed pretty fast again. She was holding out hope, that one day Marek would fall in love with her again. How could she ever believe that, after he threw her away for effing ice hockey and women? It just didn't add up.
I kiss him back because I never stopped loving him. Even when he broke my heart and left me in ruins, so utterly alone and abandoned, I never once turned my heart away from what we had.
Also, the side plot-line about her parents' house made me think that Gracen was a little on the dumb side. She never talked with her parents about their issues and just made assumptions and was ready to marry the person who black-mailed them!
Now, I did love Lilly, their daughter, she was really cute. I also thought Marek's parents were really cool.
These books are supposed to be standalones but I feel like I'm missing out on some information of things that happened in Reed's book. The whole kidnapping thing is only mentioned but I feel it's important to explain that a little more. It was only glazed over in this one.
This might be a it's-me-not-the-book kind of thing. For some reason I still couldn't stop reading, the angst was, while a little annoying, still delicious, if that makes any sense. Marek and Gracen weren't my favorite couple in the Cold Fury series but I know what Sawyer Bennett can do. I read brilliant stories by her. I'm pretty sure that this was only a fluke.
Please check out other reviews of this book - many reviewers loved this story and this is just one opinion!

Great book! Have always loved this author and this is no exception!!! The humor..the passion...the chemistry.- great job!

I love this series! Hot hockey players who love their jobs, their fame, and their women. But, not all of the relationships start of smoothly. Such is the case here where Marek discovers that his ex-girlfriend has been keeping a very big secret from him…a daughter. Emotions run high on both sides…his anger and confusion, her regret and sadness. Yet there’s also hope here. Hope that he’ll be a good father, hope that they’ll find their way back to each other, and hope that they can overcome the pain of the past.
Although I was frustrated with Marek’s initial treatment of Grace, I could also see where he was coming from. Discovering he was a father was a huge surprise and, of course, figuring out all he had missed made him more angry than sad. Grace was apologetic and guilt-ridden but I loved her strength. She felt betrayed by Marek’s actions in the past but had worked through that while tackling the huge task of being a single mom. I enjoyed watching her stand up to Marek when he was being an idiot and standing her ground until he figured things out. I loved the ups and downs of their relationship and I loved watching as both of them when they began to realize that there was an opportunity to start over. Their attraction was undeniable and their chemistry was hot. The road was long and not straight forward but anything worth having is worth fighting for.
This second-chance story had all the ingredients for realistic feeling romance. The characters were great and the plot was interesting and the banter had depth. I, for one, look forward to each of the stories in this series and can only hope that the Cold Fury continue to recruit new members so that we can continue to have more stories about these hockey hunks!

If you are looking for a hockey centered book, stop. Marek’s installment of the Cold Fury franchise is a story where our hero plays hockey, but it’s really a small piece of the tale.
If you are looking for a story about true love that gets a second chance, then this is one you want to read.
From a timing standpoint, this takes place immediately following the conclusion of Reed’s story, so if you are reading out of order there are potential spoilers. Other than that, and cameo appearances by other Cold Fury players, this is a stand-alone story.
Ms Bennett does an excellent job of capturing the angst and pain Marek and Gracen are dealing with as their past sweeps into the present. Neither is blameless and it is by turns heartbreaking and heartwarming to see them get things figured out.
I was prepared to not like Marek going into this book, mainly because of his behavior at the end of Reed’s story. Getting to know him here cast him in a completely different light. I found myself not only liking him, but rooting for him and Gracen as well.
Based on the number of “happily ever after” style cameos that were made, I am left wondering about the fate of the Cold Fury franchise? This is a trademark of Ms Bennett’s to maintain series continuity, but I have to wonder. Part of me feels like the team is ready for us to move on, but I also don’t want to say goodbye!

Loved it! These Cold Fury players are some of my favorite characters. Granted Marek wasn't a favorite at the beginning of this book. His treatment of Gracen, both past and present, did nothing to endear him to me. Eventually though as Gracen and Marek both let go of the past and start enjoying the present he started to win me over. By the end I could forgive him and I was a fan. As with any Sawyer Bennett book these are characters you won't soon forget. This is definitely one for the must read list. I highly recommend it.

While this book was good it unfortunately wasn't one that really stuck with me. I enjoyed the angst and tough storyline. Gracen's road to forgiveness wasn't easy, she really had to work for it which I liked. But Marek didn't really stand out to me like the other men in this series has. There was something about him that I just didn't connect with.
I enjoyed this storyline, it was heavier and not as humorous as the previous books. It held my attention and kept me on my toes. Marek was a very mercurial character and I never knew which way his emotions would take him. Gracen was a strong character who had made mistakes in the past, owned up to them, and knew when to take the emotional hit and when to push back. I loved that she didn't let people walk all over her.
Overall this was a good addition to this series but not likely one that I'll re-read over and over like the others in this series.

I was excited to see that Marek’s story was finally being told. I wondered when the author was going to get around to his story. So, when I saw that it had come up on NetGalley for review, I pounced on it. I was expecting this book to be like the other books in the series. Boy, was I disappointed. Marek had a huge chip on his shoulder. Gracen was awful. I have no words to express my disgust for her. It was her character that caused me to rate the book as I did. I did come around to like Marek towards the end of the book. But I felt bad for him. He was saddled with a harpy. There were times I wanted to shake him and say “Run while you can“. Of course, if he did that, then there wouldn’t have been a story.
There were good points to the book. Believe it or not, the sex was hot and emotion filled. I loved the subplot involving Gracen’s ex. I loved the forgiveness flowing through the book. Even though I wouldn’t have been as forgiving. Just saying. And I loved Lilly. As a mother of a 4-year-old, the author did a great job of capturing everything about her. Including asking for the butt to be wiped. Expect mine yells “Someone wipe my butttttttt” until we get in there and do it…lol.
I mentioned above that Marek had a huge chip on his shoulder. If I hadn’t been told that I had a daughter, I would be pretty upset too. But, I didn’t like that he threw it in Gracen’s face every time they argued. Every time. It got old after a while. At one point, I thought to myself “Does he have anything else to say to Gracen other than you kept my daughter a secret?” when arguing with her. I started to like him more when he started to bond with Lilly. I loved it.
Gracen, I did not like. She is the reason I rated this book a 3. I thought her reasons for keeping Lilly a secret awful. When it was first revealed, it came across that she was MAD at him for wanting to have a career. So she keeps that she had his kid a secret. WTF. She fought Marek on everything and kept threatening to take Lilly and leave if they had an argument. The author did try to cast her in a better light once she and Marek started banging. Then the accident happened and she went off on Marek. I sat there shaking my head.
While I did not like (dare I say hated??) Gracen and felt bad for Marek, I thought that the sex was amazeballs. Which surprised me because I usually get nothing out of it. If I don’t like any one of the characters, the sex comes across as fake and forced. But not in this book. It says a lot about the author skill as a writer to keep me interested in sex scenes when I don’t like one of the characters. The sex was great. It was steamy, hot and the chemistry didn’t stop after the first time. Even in Marek’s flashbacks, the sex was amazeballs.
The subplot involving Gracen’s ex was pretty messed up. She was only marrying him to keep her parent’s house from being foreclosed on. So, she was marrying for money, not love. Of course, if she had only talked to her parents and to his father than that relationship would have ended. But she wouldn’t have gotten back together with Marek if she married him.
The underlying theme of forgiveness in Marek was wonderful. I liked how even though what Gracen did was horrible, his parents were still able to forgive her.
The end of Marek was cute. But, I did wonder if it was the end of the series? I hope not because I think that there are more stories to be told!!!
What I liked about Marek:
A) Hot sex despite unlikable characters
B) The subplot involving Gracen and her ex. I love it when slimy people get what is coming to them
C) Lilly
What I disliked about Marek:
A) Marek’s throwing Gracen keeping Lilly from in her face every time they fought. Got old after a while.
B) Gracen, period. Could. Not. Stand. Her.
C) The reasons why Gracen was marrying her ex.
I would give Marek an Adult rating. There is explicit sex. There is language. There is mild violence. I would suggest that no one under the age of 21 read this book.
There are no trigger warnings in Marek.
I am on the fence about recommending Marek to family and friends. I am also on the fence about rereading this book. I would be open to reading other books by this author.
I would like to thank Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept, Loveswept, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Marek.

**I chose to leave this review after reading an advance reader copy**

This one had me hitting highs and lows and cursing Marek along the way. He found out he had a daughter but not until she was three years old and on the eve of his ex-girlfriend's wedding. Well, he had to crash that wedding and put a stop to that and move them to his home. Once there he basically abandons them because he doesn't know how to cope with his anger. Oh, his anger and his temper, it is not a pretty thing but eventually they manage to overcome that and when he and Gracen start to work together to parent Lillie it is fun to watch Lillie work her Daddy. It takes a lot of forgiveness on both parts and it is not until Owen showed up and everything blew up and secrets are revealed, then it really gets good. Then things really get serious. Will they be able to fully forgive each other and make it work? This series has continued to bring together strong heroes and heroines that truly deserve each other and these two are no exception and the second time around only makes it stronger.

Make no mistake, folks, I can’t remember the last time the male leading role in a book made me so mad I wanted to cause him bodily harm. Though Marek left Gracen four years ago after being her first love/hot and heavy boyfriend for five years so he could live a life of fame and fortune free of any/all responsibility, he hatefully, hurtfully berates her countless times for not contacting him to let him know he was a baby daddy. Gee, I wonder why she didn’t think he wanted any part of that role, folks? It wasn’t until nearly 80% he finally starts to see her side of things and the hardships she endured while he was off chasing skirts and his professional hockey player dreams.
For someone who touts he is so proud of his wonderful parents and how he was raised, he is clueless what a failure of a man he’s become. He is always pointing the finger and blame at Gracen for all that he has lost, when he is the one who pushed her to the curb and out of his life without a second thought. Him going on about not knowing how to relate to a three year old certainly wasn’t applicable, since he acted like one most of the time. I think he had toddler temper tantrums down pat.
Gracen had some knucklehead moments herself. At times being strong then swinging into eyes shifting to the ground, doormat mode and giving into to kisses and touching when she should have been making him grovel comes to mind. Don’t get me started on the numerous “I’m sorry” apologies that were thrown back in her face. But I’ll just leave it at that for now, folks.
If you love a heavy on angry relationship angst theme between two people who find it difficult to forgive, forget, and trust each other again, you may love this addition to the Cold Fury series. I unashamedly admit I wanted her to date a handsome doctor where she worked just to make Marek jealous. At least Marek was smart enough not to take Gracen to his usual stomping ground nightclub where he used to pick up women.
The author did keep me reading to the end, despite my dislike of this hero throughout most of the book. His very brief groveling at the end didn’t seem nearly long enough. Here’s to hoping he actually meant it.
Title: Marek, Series: Cold Fury (Book 11), Author: Sawyer Bennett, Pages: 226, stand-alone but part of a series, VERY smexy/steamy scenes with lusty language, hateful/hurtful hero who plays the martyr and slow to forgive, strong at times but mostly a doormat heroine, lots of relationship angst, baby daddy drama, not celibate during long separation, dumped her after years together to live his dream.

BIANCA
A new book in this adorable Hockey series. YAY!
MAREK!!!
This is not much of a hockey romance - the season is over. But, the new season almost here.
It's a really cute romantic second-chance drama!
I really enjoyed reading it.
We want Marek to get his happily ever after with his two girls. But he's still so mad at Gracen for not telling him about Lilly.
And Gracen has all that stuff with Owen back home. He's already sending threatening texts that she should come back to get married asap! And he's also mad at Marek for leaving her to become a hockey star.
They have a bit of a way to go until we'll get that happily ever after!
Great book!
I had some problems with the writing...as with every Sawyer book. It's Sawyer's and my THING ☺ It's only me who has those problems with her writing. So please don't be worried or just scroll down and don't read the following...
I have a HUGE AS problem! ☺ You know the AS's I'm talking about? The AS that could/should be exchanged for a SINCE or a BECAUSE or just a comma/dot/pause/whatever.☺ It's a British and or legal thing (if it's a thing at all!) and it doesn't have anything to do in an American book by an American author. I would be ok with it if one (British) character would use it, but everyone uses it! I really don't want to insult Sawyer. I love her books, but ... please stop doing it. But pfff who am I to tell her what to do, so just forget I said anything! It doesn't stop her books from being great!
MAREK was another super-adorable, sexy addition to this great hockey series!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own MAREK - this one is MINE!!!!!
JANEANE
Woohoo, time to head back to North Carolina and spend some time with the hockey hotties from the Cold Fury.
Any my, look at that cover. I keep going back to look at him lol
Now, the way we were introduced to Marek at the end of Reed, we we knew that this wasn't going to be a light and fluffy story
I mean, there is no much hockey involved in this one since it is mostly set in the off season, however Marek, Gracen and Lilly's story was full of heartbreak and frustration and so much love.
But really, their story is a bit of a sh!t fight! I can understand both sides of the story and can understand the actions on both sides but boy! It felt at times they were rehashing the same thing time and time again and I wanted to clonk their heads together and tell them to snap out of it
Lilly is an absolute scene stealer and I just wanted to wrap her up and make her mine - though I don't think Marek would like that.
#ColdFury is one of those series that it doesn't matter how many books there are, I will keep reading as long as Ms Bennett keeps writing them. I love the family that the team becomes.
So whilst this couple may not have been my favourite in the series (that award goes to Zack), and whilst the couple frustrated me, I really, really liked this book. It is one of my top books in this series at the moment. Marek and Gracen's story just made it that way.
Now to see what Ms Bennett's new hockey series brings us.

4 star Review Marek (Cold Fury Hockey # 11) by Sawyer Bennett
This is book 11 in one of my favourite series and this time it is all about Marek Fabritis and
Gracen Moore.
Marek is shocked and furious to find out that he has a daughter Lilly whose existence he knew nothing of and that Gracen is about to marry.
Returning home Marek is determined to get answers and creates chaos at Gracen’s wedding. He is also planning on getting his daughter as there is no way he will let another man raise her.
Gracen has always loved Marek. That’s why she never told him about Lilly, she knew he was destined for great things as a professional hockey player.
However when Marek storms her wedding she realises that she has made a terrible mistake.
Not only that but the she is terrified to realise that the chemistry between them is still there.
I have to say Marek acted like a jerk, sure I understood his reactions but honestly I wasn’t a huge fan initially.
To me this was a more intense story line than the last few books. It was at times raw, gritty and rather emotional as Marek, Gracen and Lilly all had to learn to deal with the reality of the life which they found themselves facing.
I did feel that there was perhaps too much focus on Gracen keeping Lilly from Marek and not enough of Marek being held accountable for his past behaviour. Both needed to confront the past and realise how their actions affected those around them.
Relationships take a lot of hard work and it was good that the struggles were realistic that Ms. Bennett did not sugar coat it. I also love how Reed kept getting in Marek’s face over his treatment of Gracen.
Not my favourite book of the series but it was well written and I loved catching up on the previous couples and seeing what is happening in their lives.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book through NetGalley from the publisher.

I enjoyed Marek and Gracen's second chance story. I feel like maybe the beginning of their story started in Reed, which I didn't read, but for the most part I got the gist of what happened between them. I really felt the angst between the characters and could really relate to the heartbreak in this story. And as always with Sawyer Bennett, there was a delicious amount of steam. A solid addition to this series!

Such an enjoyable and easy to read series.
It difficult to keep finding superlatives to do this series justice. I am continually drawn to these novels because I can enjoy the stories without being weighed down in drama and emotional baggage. I know what to expect each time I start one of the Cold Fury books despite having widely different characters in each book. The stories are not overly long and drawn out, satisfy my passion for sports romance stories, although the hockey theme is starting to become a little tenuous. I appreciate that old and well-loved characters find a place in future stories, despite these books being standalones within a series. And, add in the author’s naturally edifying writing skills in relation to the story's theme and I’m won over time after time.
Marek was a sweet character with a past to put right. When he finds out his ex-girlfriend and the woman he grew up with is getting married he jumps into action only to find she has been keeping more than one secret from him. Marek quickly asserts his dominance where Gracen is concerned and before long she is shacked up, for want of a better word, in his house and has an almost wedding firmly in her rearview mirror.
Gracen and her daughter, Lilly, find life at Marek’s house lonely, especially when Marek avoids them in order to give them space. Gracen is a sweet character though and together with Lilly they start to worm themselves into Marek’s life. I love stories which involved an entertaining and sweet young child and Lilly quickly stole my heart.
Marek is angry and resentful and finds it difficult to move on from Gracen’s deception but with time and patience, on Gracen’s part, they start to become a family, if albeit a slightly dysfunctional one. What Marek doesn’t know is that Gracen has been keeping even more secrets from him and when he starts to find out the reasons for her planned marriage, he soon comes to realise that all is not what it seems.
If you are looking for a lighthearted sports romance story which is without heavy drama and yet heartwarming then look no further than this series.

I always eagerly await another book in this series because...hot hockey players! Although I’ve read some of the books in this series, I haven’t read them all and I did feel a bit confused at the beginning of this one, like I was missing part of the story. However, things get cleared up rather quickly, so don’t worry if you didn’t read the last book in the series.
When Marek discovers his ex girlfriend, Gracen, has kept a secret from him, he’s angry. Especially considering that secret is a daughter. However, Marek dumped Gracen when he got his shot playing in the NHL. She may be carrying guilt for not telling him, but she’s angry too. Now that they’re all living under the same roof, trying to figure things out, it’s hard to see past their mutual hurt. A second chance is a possibility if they can just forgive the things they’ve both done and said!

"I love it when you think you're actually in control, Gracie."
I'm a huge fan of the #ColdFuryHockey series and I love it when I get to see the #HockeyHunks I've come to know and love in previous books. In this one, I enjoyed spending some more time with Reed & Josie.
Marek & Gracen were high school sweethearts. She thought their love was forever, at least until he left her to pursue his NHL career and to find out what he'd been missing. He broke her heart and forced her to rewrite her future, one that didn't include him. She moved on, but she never forgot her first love. She never expected to see him again, other than when she watched the Cold Fury team on TV. Imagine her surprise when he showed up at her wedding...
Marek has always had fond memories of his first love. The time he spent with Gracen was special and he's never regretted their time together. Actually, he's never forgotten her over the years. When he receives an email telling him she's getting married, he decides to head back to their hometown and change her mind. What he finds when he gets there rocks his world. Her name is Lilly and she's 3 years old. And he can never get those three years back...
This installment of the Cold Fury series is different than the others. It's not lighthearted and funny. It's deep and emotional. I admit I struggled with it, having trouble connecting to the main characters. I got frustrated with their behavior and was tempted to use Marek's hockey stick inappropriately at times to set them straight. It seemed the only time they were on the same page was in the bedroom, and in that case, they didn't need any help from me, they had that covered just fine.
I'm looking forward to finding out which HockeyHottie will be featured in the next installment, regardless, I'll be there ready to cheer for the team and provide unsolicited advice. The line forms here...

Book 11 in the Cold Fury Series and this is Marek and Gracen’s story and I have to say this is one man I didn’t like throughout a fair bit of this book, I didn’t like his attitude or his manors but I guess it’s hard to say how any man would react when he finds out his ex has been hiding a daughter from him.
This story starts off with Marek stoping the wedding of his ex girlfriend after receiving a email saying he has a daughter called Lilly, Gracen is so sorry she has hidden Lilly from Marek but he just won’t believe she did it for what she thought were the right reasons. Marek struggles to come to terms with why Gracen would do this to him and it’s only as he really gets to know Lilly and starts listening to Gracen does he finally show his love for both of them. The one liners from the adorable Lilly really bring some comic relief to this story but I would loved to have seen more of her . Another enjoyable read from the talented Sawyer Bennett.

Gracen is rescued from an unwanted marriage when Marek virtually kidnaps her and takes her to his home. Along with their daughter, Lily, he had not known about. They are both harboring seething emotions. Gracen for the way he dumped her years ago because he loved hockey more than her as well as wanting his freedom and Marek because she never told him she was pregnant and has kept his daughter from him for the last three years.
This couple had a lot of issues to work out as they both suffer guilt as well as justifiable anger. I could clearly see both sides and was often bouncing back and forth over who I should pledge my allegiance to. I like my hero to be all in where the heroine is concerned so I struggled with Marek’s ability to walk away from Gracie after they had spent five years together and were in love.
However, I also thought that there was no acceptable reason for Gracen to keep Lily’s birth a secret not only from Marek but his parents as well. No matter that he might have been a grade A jerk for leaving her.
In the end, I began cheering for them as a couple as they start to work toward an amicable, steamy, and promising future. It was a rather rough road to travel and the angst was a bit on the heavy side due to Marek’s point of view never giving even a hint that he still loved Gracen. Did I mention I like my hero all in? Yeah, until the end I never really felt that from this hero.
Overall, it’s a relatively fast paced read with a look at a few past Cold Fury characters and an ending that was really very nice. Lily was written exactly as I expect to see a young child behave which is sometimes tricky and I did love seeing Marek fall in love with her.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Random House - Loveswept. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Gracen made a decision years ago that would effect them both for years. Feeling she had no choice she is desperately trying to make amends. Marek’s anger threatens to consume him as he makes tentative steps forward as he accepts his new role. Sparks ignite between them as they both try to protect themselves and finally finding forgiveness for their actions in the past. Great characters that are strong and remind us how detrimental being stubborn can be.

I was really excited to read Marek after reading Reed. I ended up somewhat disappointed in this book and would not call this a fun read like the other books in the series. I will say that this book did keep my attention and I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from earlier books.
I think my disappointment comes from the fact that Marek is a giant dick though out the book. He lacks maturity and, even worse, character. He is a completely selfish man and not a particularly nice guy. I wanted to like Marek and I never felt like he completely redeemed himself from being a pretty crap human being.
I didn't dislike Gracen, our baby hiding heroine, but I did find her hard to take at times. I honestly understand why she never contacted Marek but I felt like she was too much of a pushover at times. Also, I questioned a lot of the things she did.
I will absolutely continue reading all of the Cold Fury Hockey series, but I wish I would have skipped this one.

Marek has just found out the he is a father and has a 3 1/2 year old little girl. He is so far out of his comfort zone but is determined to get to know his daughter and be the best father he can. Family is super important to Marek so he should have no problem with the transition.
Gracen is riddled with guilt for keeping Lily from Marek for all these years but she thought she was doing the right thing. He wanted freedom when he left, a baby speaks to everything but freedom. She is a super mom with a great nursing career to keep her busy.
When Marek and Gracen start to sort out this next adventure they quickly realize that feeling they shared all those years ago might not be as far buried as they hoped. Is it possible for a second chance? Can they truly forgive and move on? Will they move on together?
As with the other Cold Fury books I enjoyed the characters and the banter between the teammates.
