Jessica has a strong voice & a beautiful heart. Her story was wonderful to read! I am a big supporter of her company, Noonday Collection, but even more so after hearing the journey behind how it came to be. I'd love to have a backyard margarita & taco date with her! Just so relatable and down to earth and gave wonderful & timeless advice to those with big dreams.
This is a book filled with introspection, vulnerable courage and inspiration. Jessica Honegger encourages you to go scared, be vulnerable and put yourself out there. It is a story about her journey with Noonday Collection (an amazing company by the way), but it is also about so much more. I found her voice to be sincere, inspiring and honest without being preachy. I also appreciate hearing all sides of her journey, from her travels, working with artisans and missteps along the way.
I loved this book! Jessica's story is inspiring, but she seems so down-to-earth it's easy to relate. This book calls us to step out of our comfort zone!
Just a short review of the book "Imperfect Courage" by Jessica Honegger, founder of the “B” company, Noonday Collection —
In this book, the author describes how and why she began the company,
Noonday Collection, which is a fair trade jewelry company, that sells jewelry made in 12 countries, and provides employment to 4,500 artisans who make the jewelry.
The author explains that she was afraid to start her business. She thought she might be a fool for thinking she could start it. She feared failure and rejection. She states that she had only “Imperfect Courage”, so she decided to do it afraid.
The book encourages others who want to start a business to help people.
The book gives too much information about the company, Noonday Collection, almost like a long advertisement.
For me, the best part of the book, is the section where the lives of some of the artisans are described, both before being employed through Noonday Collection, and after. This is the best reason for Noonday Collection to exist. This is why Jessica Honegger has worked so hard at keeping this business successful.
This just wasn’t for me. I had to stop reading about halfway through. I attempted to skip around but still lost interest.
Simple analogies like “ In the same way that a toddler learns to walk by walking, we get our courage legs under us only when we stand to our feet and move“. Like really? That’s the best she can come up with? I appreciated her story told by her Rwandan lawyer to her and her adoption story but the constant talk about NoonDay, which is known to be an MLM (aka the artisans she’s buying from are getting jipped because she’s marking up their jewelry 1000% for her profit), was constant.
Overall just not for me. Sorry!
I never cry when I read a book, but I cried with this one. Jessica is brave and shares how you don't have to be the bravest person, to do brave things. She talks about the value of community and being vulnerable. She is open and honest and never claims to be perfect. She shares her story of imperfection and how the most important thing is we just go!
This was an incredibly inspiring book, with so much gathered together about supporting one another, lifting others up, and stories about bringing people up and out of poverty. Jessica's story is wonderful to read, and incredibly interesting, and she comes across as such a lovely, giving person. She encourages vulnerability to foster connection and compassion, which is something I truly believe in, and reminds people that even doing a small amount for someone else can change that person's life in a rippling way.
I did have some trouble occasionally with how choppy/jumpy the formatting was - sometimes Jessica jumped around so much that I found myself getting confused as to where we were or who she was talking about - and occasionally I had difficulty with the Christian messages that were in the book. I have not been raised Christian myself, and identify as a Buddhist Pagan, so occasionally the messages felt spread a little too thick for me and mentions of witchcraft and not supporting divorce (these were super rare, but they did grate then thjey came up) just made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Other than those small issues, I found this book to be life-affirming and wonderful. I had to edit the messages a little bit for myself, as someone with a chronic illness I can't many of the things that Jessica recommends everyone practice, but the overall message left me feeling hopeful and inspired.
A really interesting book written by Jessica Honegger, founder of Noonday Collection, a direct sales fair trade jewellery brand. Her desire to empower and help women transform fear into courage is so inspiring. I loved her perseverance in all aspects of her life. I was awed with her stories on how her company has helped so many women around the world to make a living and flourish financially. Her lessons are applicable to anyone and to any aspect of our lives. Personally, I am going to occasionally read it whenever I need some uplifting read to reach for my dreams.
You should definitely read it if you are a fan of Rachel Hollis.
When I read Honegger's words it's like she is speaking my own thoughts back to me.
If you are one who has a love for people, culture, helping the downtrodden and seeing the world a better place, Imperfect Courage is a MUST read!
Honegger connects valid feelings with real life experiences of choosing to go scared versus staying on the couch and numbing out. No matter what stage of life or financial position readers are encouraged to step out and utilize their power, pocketbook, priorities, proximity and perspective. We all have the ability to make change and impact our world right where we are, with all that we have. Imperfect Courage is a testament that dreams do come true and when one person steps out it's, a domino effect of change on the world!
By all accounts, Jessica Honegger is doing good work int the world. As the founder of Noonday Collection, a fair-trade jewelry business, she has opened up a market for artisans in developing countries to make and sell their wares which provides them a living wage and helps lift them from poverty. Jumping into the popular Christian mommy/maker/motivational space, Ms. Honegger shares her thoughts on various and sundry topics in her first book. The result is a narrative with a bit of personality disorder as this book doesn't quite know what it was to be.
Did I enjoy certain sections of this book and find them to be inspiring? Yes, certainly. But I couldn't fully embrace the "kitchen sink" approach. One minute I was reading about adoption, the next minute was a motivational pep talk for budding entrepreneurs, and then the next minute was a sales pitch for her company. It was a bit disjointed for my taste.
Thank you to WaterBrook & Multnomah for a galley of this book for review purposes.
2.5 rounded up to 3 stars.
Im so on the fence about this book. on one hand I think her message is important and she's done some amazing things. on the other hand, i've read a lot of books like this and this one just didn't excite me. It wasn't bad by any means, but nothing about it was super memorable either.
It's always great to learn from others and their success stories. Jessica did a good job at sharing her story.
This is another book I believe anyone with anxiety should read. While not a magic fix, it makes solid points and gives good ideas.
Jessica is sweet, honest, and direct. She gently pushes you to live the best self you can. She is like that special friend that kindly whispers, Girl wear your big girl panties. Buy it for yourself, buy it for your girlfriends. Don’t walk, run and grab this wonderful book
Imperfect Courage is very inspiring. It is the journey Jessica Honegger takes to start a company to help people get a job in the lower economic countries and also help with the cost of adoptions. After taking mission trips as a teenager she saw how great the global needs of poverty in are world were. The company started out in her house when she knew she needed to make a difference in our world. The company is called Noonday Collection . Noonday Collection employees over 4,500 artisans world wide to make jewelry and sell all over the world. It is a very fast growing company. She started out selling her grandmother's jewelry to a pawnshop so she could adopt her son Jack in Rwanda. As she went about the process of adopting she saw how great the need was for children in poorly developed countries to be adopted and how many people in these countries needed work. She gradually developed a network of people working for her here in the United States and in many other countries. In the beginning of the book she talks about the importance of not letting fear , comparison get in the way of us chasing our dreams. She shared about how fear can trap and stop us from moving forward. She started out working with Uganda with her business. Her first business partner was Jalia who lived in Uganda and she was moved at how the business created jobs and helped people get out of poverty. The business is based in Texas. In the United States people can have trunk shows to sell the Noonday products to support the costs of adoption. Jessica encourages people to be honest , reach beyond your fears , learn to live simply and move forward to help the global poverty. The book is filled with many , many stories of how people were changed by being and artisan in their country or working in the United States for her company. She is excellent and being a businesswoman and expanding and networking to get her company to different parts of the world. Her website tells more about her company, her book and even has podcasts :: https://jessicahonegger.com/ . She speaks to many different groups about her company. She is amazing and has made a true difference in our world. She challenges us to look outside our world to the needs facing our world. Will you open yourself up to the needs of the world?
I found this book to be fun and easy to read. It was full of great truth and depth while easily accessible. I appreciated how this author mixed her personal and professional lessons together to encourage others to break out of their box and grow.
Great book on courage. She took what God gave her and ran with it. She was able to build a business while helping others thrive. Great tips on helping others and being in community with other women.
Inspirational story about adoption and starting her own business. Jessica's enthusiasm is contagious and her persistence shows throw on every page. I enjoyed all aspects of this book, even though I am not an adoptive parent or a woman starting a business. She inspires women by her hard work and her drive to be brave in all areas of life. An easy read that leaves you with a fire in your belly to go out and do that brave thing you have been holding back on trying.
Jessica Honegger is someone you'd love to have as a friend.
Her honesty is approachable, raw and brave. Still, she doesn't let us stay stuck. She shines the light into our tangled thoughts that try to bring us down, and presents to us the concepts of "going scared" and "imperfect courage". Because we don't have to strive for perfection, but trust in the Only One who can make us complete.
Some parts I was afraid this was going to turn out as another self-help book focused a lot on "me".
But Jessica did a great job of reminding our brokenness but also our holiness, and I felt ministered.
This book was so inspiring! I’ve been a follower of hers for years and I’m fan girling right now! Definite read this book!
