This is the second book in the series of Josie Quinn Police Chief of this small town and maybe I should have read the first one, though after a couple of chapters it did not detract from this story.
Josie has faced problems in the past. Her husband, now dead. Now Josie is confronted with a missing fiancee (who has been over the last few weeks been totally distracted), a missing baby, a dancer at a strip club badly beaten with connections to Josie's fiancee and a girl wearing her fiancee's clothes caught fleeing a scene of a crime with total memory class, pretend or otherwise.
Every link or lead does not necessarily lead to the next lead and with pressure to solve the crimes, especially when the bodies start piling up and with the Mayor's husband being an active suspect, Josie is also in danger of losing her job even before she solves the case, finds her missing fiancee Luke and sort out her own personal problems.
Very slick, quick paced, and descriptive this had all the key elements for a good mystery murder.

3.5 stars
A character-driven mystery about a kidnapped baby, a missing police officer, and a town overrun with corruption.
This is book two in the Detective Josie Quinn series. While I didn’t love book one, The Vanishing Girls, due to some of the plotting issues, I really took to Josie’s character so I opted to read The Girl With No Name. Much like the Vanishing Girls, I had issues with the plot. However, Josie’s character makes this series worth it to read.
Upon investigating a case of a woman who was found severely beaten, Police Chief Josie Quinn discovers that the beaten woman had recently given birth and the newborn baby is missing. As Josie begins her investigation, she discovers that her fiance, Luke, has gone missing. Making matters even worse, she finds a strange woman sleeping in Luke’s house. At the same time, the tiny town of Denton, PA is riveted by the arrest and impending trial of a serial killer.
I would recommend reading The Vanishing Girls before reading this, especially because many of the characters who appear in book one are present in book two, including Misty, Trinity, Luke, and Noah.
There are a lot of moving parts in The Girl with No Name and there’s also a ton of twists-- this is where, at times, the plot gets a little messy. I also found some of the events that occur to be low on the believability scale. However, despite these issues, this is a fast-paced, entertaining read with a solid lead character. I liked the ending, and I am interested to see what’s next for Josie.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.
Chief of Police, Detective Josie Quinn’s day off relaxing with her fiancé was interrupted by a call to a house she was familiar with. But the horror she and her partner, Lieutenant Noah Fraley faced on arrival shocked them to the core. A young mother who had just given birth; a lot of blood; and no baby. Immediately an Amber Alert was issued for the newborn child. The lack of information to go on frustrated Josie and Noah but they started doing what they did best.
When a second abduction occurred, the young woman seen fleeing the scene was swiftly captured. But she declared she didn’t know who she was, why she was there, what had happened. But did Josie believe her? It seemed the girl with no name was the only link to the terrible things that were happening. Would they be able to break through the girl’s barriers before it was too late for both those missing?
The second in the Detective Josie Quinn series is exceptional! Gritty and fast-paced, The Girl With No Name by Lisa Regan tests everyone from Josie down to the sergeant on the reception desk. Twists galore, bodies mounting – the tension was rising at a rapid rate! An excellent thriller, The Girl With No Name ticks all the boxes. Lisa Regan is an author I’ll definitely continue to read. I loved the first in the series, now I can’t wait for the third! Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy to read and review.
*Thanks to NetGalley and bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* When I requested this ARC, I'm not sure I realised that it was the second in a series. It was thoroughly enjoyable as a stand-alone book, but I am now tempted to seek out the first in the series. 'The With No Name' is a crime novel based in the city of Denton and focussing on Chief of Police, Josie Quinn. Whilst it reads as a traditional crime novel, it also has many suspenseful and thrilling moments thrown in. A woman is found badly beaten and her new born baby boy is missing. It is up to Quinn to find the little boy before it is too late. Just a heads up for the slightly squeamish, the body count in this book is pretty high - corpses seem to litter the pages of the narrative. At times, I struggled to keep all of the different characters and storylines straight, but that may also have been because I have not read the first in the series. Loved the twists near the end of the book.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher, Bookouture for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. For information, this book is based in the USA. It can be read as a standalone but it makes sense to read them in order!
I have to admit, it took me a while to remember the story from the first book, Vanishing Girls. Once the names started to appear, it all came flooding back!! Josie Quinn is a female Chief of Police in a small American town. In the first book, we found out all about Josie, who was on suspension, her ex husband Ray and her fiance Luke. This book finds Josie back in post following the aftermath of what happened in book one. The story begins with Josie and her team being called to the house of a newborn baby and his mother (who you will recognise from book one!) The baby has been taken and the mother left for dead. Josie then finds Luke missing also and as she starts to dig deeper into the two cases she finds they may be linked. As more bodies pile up, there appears to be a lot more going on than meets the eye and it's down to Josie and her team to work it all out before it's too late.
I loved Josie in this book, she was so much different in this one, back from suspension and settling into her role as Chief of Police. Her Lieutenant, Noah was fantastic and he obviously has a soft spot for his boss! I did feel for Josie who was trying to remain professional even though all the cases seem to be so close to home for her.
The story was fast paced and full of punches all the way through. The chapters were interspersed with news reports of different seemingly unrelated deaths which are all revealed towards the end of the book. The story twisted and turned so much it left me gasping for breath and I literally could not put it down.
It was an absolute corker of a book and I absolutely loved it! I can't wait for Book three to meet up again with the fabulous Josie Quinn and her team!
Thank you for allowing me to read this book. this was the first book that I've read by the author and I will definitely be looking to read whatever is brought out next. Although this book was the second following Detective Josie Quinn, it can be read as a standalone. Kept me up in the night to finish. Well worth a read
Detective Josie Quinn is horrified when she’s called to the house of a mother who had her newborn baby snatched from her arms. A woman caught fleeing the scene is Josie’s only lead, but when questioned it seems this mysterious girl doesn’t know who she is, where she’s from or why she is so terrified…
I loved “Vanishing Girls” the first in the series, so when I had seen my GR’s friend Debra was reading the second in the series; I knew I had to get my hands on it. So, thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Lisa Regan for a free advanced copy.
I loved the mystery in “The Girl with No Name”. The author definitely had you going in many directions, with many suspects, and a whole lotta wrong guesses. After the abduction of a baby and her fiancé, Jossie was running against the clock with lots of complications thrown in her and her team’s way. This was definitely another great installment in the series and I look forward to the rest. Not that I need another series to read, but Ms. Regan has found a devoted Jossie fan.
The Girl with No Name seems to be the 2nd book in a series after Vanishing Girls by Lisa Regan. I did not read the first book and I was able to read this book just on its own. Its a very fast paced crime story that has lots of twists and turns throughout with a baby disappearing, many persons pop up murdered and no one know who did it. Thank you for this complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This series got off to a promising start with "Vanishing Girls," the first to feature Josie Quinn, a very capable detective in Denton, Pa. So of course, I was eager to get my hands on a copy of this one (thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for an advance review copy). My opinion? This one is better than the first. That said, I'll add this: While this one stands on its own well, I think that starting with the first one will give you a bit more understanding of what's going on (and besides, it's also very good).
And for sure, there's a whole lot going on here with lots of players, so you need to pay close attention. Josie is now the chief of police in Denton - a job she likes, although she prefers action to sitting behind a desk keeping tabs on department budgets. She gets it in spades as she's called in when Missy, a stripper, lands in the hospital after taking a brutal beating at her home. She'd just delivered a baby, it appears - a baby who's now missing. Complicating the matter is that Missy and Raymond, Josie's late husband, were a hot item before he died; now, Josie must put aside her conflicting feelings and find out who attacked Missy and took the infant.
And that's when the plot thickens even more. Josie's fiance Luke has been distant of late; when he goes missing, Josie learns that he knew Missy rather well. So, Josie and her team head for Luke's remote cabin, where he's been spending more time of late, and they find blood. No Luke, but there is a dead body half-buried behind the cabin - a man who's identified as a gangster type from Atlantic City. Has Luke gone off the deep end and committed murder, and if so, is it somehow connected to the baby's disappearance?
Needless to say, Josie desperately wants to find Luke, even if it means he's implicated in the goings-on. The investigation leads to a very nasty rich kid who's trying to build a casino in Denton and then to an even more wealthy man who's good friends with the Denton mayor, who threatens to relieve Josie of her job if she doesn't play well with said mayor's family and friends.
Josie isn't one to be intimidated, but with Luke involved and her upcoming marriage in jeopardy, she's conflicted. Her colleages try to help, with some success, but in the end it's Josie who must come to terms with the outcome.
The Girl With No Name is the second book in a series following Detective Josie Quinn by Lisa Regan. This book should come with a warning on how difficult it will be to put down. Some edge of the seat pages. Ms Regan does an excellent job of making the reader feel a connection to Josie. The Girl With No Name is a stand alone story. I was given an early copy to review.
Love this series & looking forward to book 3. Josie Quinn is a fantastic female protagonist
Another great book by Lisa Regan! Josie is back ! Who kidnapped Misti's baby and why? Who is on a murdering rampage? and is this connected to the kidnapped baby? So much mystery and intrigue in this sequel that the author keep you reading into the night! I can't wait for the next in this series. Loved it!!!
Detective Josie Quinn is back again with her team in a thrilling crime fiction. VANISHING GIRLS was first in this series and I highly recommend reading that one first, even though is easily a stand alone. The characters are outstanding and it gives the readers an understanding into their back stories.
Josie is called to a crime scene that leaves her reeling. A woman has given birth in her bathroom and then had the baby grabbed out of her arms. The woman just happens to have been the girlfriend of her then husband, another cop, who was killed.
The only lead she has is a nameless woman caught fleeing the house, wearing her finance's nightshirt. She says she has no memory of who she is, where she came from, and what she's doing here. On top of everything else, Luke, Josie's intended, is missing, as well.
Is this woman a killer ... or is she a victim? How does she know Luke, and why is she wearing his shirt? Josie has already survived one cheating husband ... is it happening again?
With bodies dropping like flies, Josie and her team begin a frantic race to find not only the baby, but Luke as well.
The author's writing of this mystery is brilliant. There are so many twists and turns with suspects galore. Interspersed between chapters are newspaper articles relating the death of a young person of some accident or another. There are more than one, and it's hard to understand what they have to do with the story ... but it does make sense the more you read.
I've read several books by this author and she has never disappointed me. I look forward to the next adventures of Josie Quinn and her team.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre for the opportunity to read this book. I loved it even though I hadn't read the first book (which I will now go and read). This book had me gripped from the beginning and wouldn't let go until the very last page. I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of The Girl With No Name by Lisa Regan that I read and reviewed.
All I can say is I loved this book. This series is awesome and I really hope that Lisa Regan decides to go further with Josie Quinn because this is one heck of a character that can go a long way.
This book had me hooked from the start and I could not out it down. With the abduction of a baby and her fiance Josie Quinn and her team had their hands full in this book and and it seemed like they were finding bodies and hurdles in their way at every turn.
This book was full of action and suspense and was another great read n this series by Lisa Regan. If you are looking for a book that you won't be able to put down that be sure to puck up The Girl With No Name because it will not disappoint.
I am giving this book five out of five stars.
First, I want to thank Lisa Reagan, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
The Girl with No Name (Detective Josie Quinn #2) by Lisa Regan is an absolutely gripping mystery and suspense novel that you cant put down til the book ends. Lisa Regan blew me away by her amazing storyline, her unique and interesting cast of characters, the crazy twists and turns, the heartache and betrayal Josie felt on several occasions, etc.
This is one of the best Mystery Suspense crime novels I have read in a really long time. I felt like I was reading something from one of my favorite TV Shows Law and Order SVU. The Girl with No Name really has something for everyone in this book. Missing people, infidelity, strippers, crime, criminal investigations, Jane Doe, etc. Words can’t describe how good this book is.
A missing State Trooper. A missing new born baby. A woman with amnesia. Are they all connected? Chief Josie Quinn should be planning her wedding but when her fiance goes missing it opens up a series of events that are rapidly getting out of control. It's a frantic search for answers.
THE GIRL WITH NO NAME is book 2 in a new crime series featuring Detective Josie Quinn by author Lisa Regan. Having enjoyed reading VANISHING GIRLS, book 1 in the series, I was anxious to continue to read more about Detective Josie Quinn and see where the journey takes me.
If you have not read, Vanishing Girls, I would suggest you do. This book does work well as a standalone novel but if you read Vanishing Girls first, you will gain more insight to the characters and their history.
Detective/Chief Josie Quinn goes on rollercoaster of a ride/journey in this story. This is a mystery with so many layers and multi-plots that the reader must pay attention and follow the clues closely.
There is also the disappearance of her fiancé Luke, and as Josie investigates further, a letter about a mix-up at a fertility clinic links the nameless girl and the missing child to a wave of killings across the county. Josie must try to find and save both.
This is a new crime thriller series that shows a promising future. I look forward to getting to know Josie better in the next book from this series.
Many thanks to Bookouture via Netgalley for my copy.
Josie Quinn is called to a home where a woman has been badly beaten and her baby has been stole. Later going back to her fiances house she finds he is missing and a young woman is there who cannot remember who she is or where she came from. From there we go on a rollercoaster of missing babies, pregnancies, a fertility clinic, mobsters and murder!!
This is Lisa Regans 2nd book in the Josie Quinn story, after Vanishing Girls, and I loved it!! Josie had a hard time in the last book and this book does not see her life getting any easier. There are loads of threads to this story which all come together in the end but it does make a thrilling ride.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review
I absolutely love Josie. She's tough, smart and now afraid to admit her flaws. I really felt for her in this story as she struggled with the aftermath of the previous book. There were a lot of twists and the different story lines came together very well.
