I haven't read book 1 in this series, but I will be checking it out next. This was engaging, with characters that are pretty fully drawn. There's plenty of drama and danger, and though I thought the clue dropped in at 85% of the way through the book instantly gave away the motive and the murderer, it was well-plotted in general. Sidekick Charlene and especially antagonist Marla were a little bit over the top, but even they had interesting and plausible reasons/backstories for their behaviors/attitudes. Many of the baking cozies I've picked up recently haven't been worth finishing. This one was!

This is an enjoyable cozy mystery. The setting and people are interesting and slightly eccentric. The food sounds wonderful. There isn't much actual investigating going on but in the end they find the killer. #BleedingTarts #NetGalley

Bleeding Tarts is the 2nd book in the Pie Town series.
This is a cute series, built with strong characters that will continue to grow as the series progresses.
Val is excited to be providing the treats for the Pie eating contest. What she doesn't expect is to become the victim of a mysterious stalker who seems determined to keep her quiet.

I enjoyed how the author wrote about Val and her nemesis Heidi, and about Charlene and her nemesis, Marla.

Charlene sees Marla as an arrogant, spiteful woman whose main goal is to out best her at every opportunity.

I would like to see Val become more confident in her abilities. There's a fine line between lack of confidence and a whiny character.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

This was such a fun book to read - a great follow up to the previous book in the series. Charlene is an awesome sidekick. I wish I had a friend like her. I loved the further character development and the setting was fun. I look forward to further romantic development for both ladies. They make a great team - I look forward to reading their further adventures!

*I would like to thank the author/publisher/Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review"

This is a fun and delicious mystery filled with quirky characters and lots of delicious pies - both sweet and savory. Val Harris is the owner of Pie Town in San Nicholas and she and her pie crust maker and good friend Charlene have brought a bunch of cherry pies to the Bar X, a western themed amusement park for a pie eating contest. Val is taking them to the saloon when shots rings out and a pie is shot out from her arms. Val runs to hide from more shots when she finds the body of Devon, the Bar X saloon keeper. Val and Charlene are part of the Baker Street Bakers, amateur crime solvers and they start to ask questions about Devon and the crime. But soon Val is targeted again and again - with a run away horse and carriage and then a car trying to run her down - and her hoped to be boyfriend, the local detective , strongly advises that she stay out of crime solving. But Val and Charlene persevere in their crime solving and eventually figure out the solution to the crime. This is an enjoyable mystery by itself, but when you are reading it you will want to do so with a nice slice of pie.
