Every cozy lover loves Savannah Reid, and Hide and Sneak is the 23rd installment of the Savannah Reid series. Savannah’s detective agency, Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency, is hired to find the missing wife and toddler of a famous movie star, Ethan Malloy, and Savannah has stars in her eyes. However, her excellent detective skills are definitely needed. Even though Savannah and her husband have relocated to San Carmelita, California and are living a southern life in the west, there is plenty of PI work, and the famous star likes and trusts Savannah. However, as is usually the case, Savannah puts herself into several dangerous situations, and in this novel is stumped as to solving the case, especially when it is escalated to a murder investigation. As Savannah investigates, and uncovers clues, things point to a person who wants to be in the spotlight.

One of the reasons Savannah Reid is so well loved, is that McKevett has developed her character over the years so that she seems like a real person. Savannah is always dripping with southern culture, and in this novel, it is absolutely delightful. Savannah is the perfect poster child for proper southern culture, and family is very important to her. Savannah’s husband is still a cop (as Savannah had been previously), and his connections and expertise help Savannah solve her cases.

For those who haven’t read the previous books in the series, it is a good idea to start and to read them in order, since the development of the characters is ongoing throughout the series. This is a fun one, and can be read very quickly.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I was given this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had never read a Savannah Reid book, so starting at #23 might not have been the best idea, but I had no problem following along. There was enough background given to keep things straight but not so much to be annoying to regular readers of the series.

In this story, Savannah is hired by Ethan Malloy, a famous actor, to find his missing wife and son, and his son's nanny. Suspects are numerous, but one by one, they are each ripped off of Savannah's mental post-it list of suspects. I was surprised by who was the culprit.

The side story about Savannah's family was interesting, and the characters were all very likable. I really look forward go starting this series from the beginning.

Another fun Savanna Reid book where west coast fame meets southern charm!
Savannah and her detective agency get the job of a lifetime when an honest to goodness movie star hires her to find his wife and son. Although lots of clues point to the husband, Savannah (and the reader) can pretty much be sure he isn't the culprit. Lots of twists and turns will have you guessing until the end. Savannah's adorable niece also makes an appearance! This book was enjoyable and I look forward to reading more books in this series.

This was a really good read. Makes you think who would want to be in the lime light with the lengths some people go to and how some people think they're better than others.

Good characters.

I have enjoyed all of G. A. McKevett's books, but I found this one particularly satisfying. The characters are people you want to know. The story keeps you interested, and you don't feel let down by the ending. I can't wait for the next one.

In this latest installment in Savannah Reid's mystery series, PI Savannah has to put aside her starstruck act and help hottie celebrity Ethan Malloy find his missing wife, toddler and nanny. This one was heavy on the family dynamics and a bit light on the true mystery, but Savannah and her hubby, police officer Dirk make a good team and the messages sprinkled throughout are clear in the book. I truly enjoy each of these and always look forward to the next one. I received this an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my review.

This is book 23 in the Savannah Reid series and is a wonderful addition. Savannah and her husband Dirk are about to be embroiled in a kidnapping murder case while helping out her brother Waycross and his wife Tammy and their baby. The Magnolia Detective agency is hired by famous actor Ethan Mallory to find his wife and baby. Soon the nanny is found dead and the police are now involved. On the homefront, Tammy's obnoxious parents are visiting California and trying to ruin her marriage. Lots of action in this one, that can be read as a stand alone but more enjoyable when you know all the back story. G.A. McKevett keeps the series fresh and the readers yearning for more. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a series that I've read since Book 1. Reading this was like visiting with old friends while they solved a mystery. I love how the characters have continued to grow and how the relationships are developing. This is another top-notch mystery that had me guessing. Savannah, Dirk and Tammy, do what they do best, solving the mystery while remembering that family is important. I'm already ready for the next one in the series!

Princess Fuzzypants here: Savannah Reid is a handy lady to have around when things start to go wonky. She is smart, confident, capable and very likeable. She is comfortable in her own skin with good reason. She is also a good PI. So when she is hired by a very hunky movie star to find out what happened to his wife, baby and nanny, he has put his trust in good hands.
Trust is a real issue here as is the damage those who would manipulate others can do. When the nanny is found murdered and there is still no sign of the wife and child, things look bleak. Savannah is determined to figure out what happened and where the missing family members might be. First, she has to dig through some a whole lot of garbage, some real and some imagined. In a world that is filled with fantasy, truth is often well disguised.
It is a good mystery that keeps the reader guessing with Savannah. She ultimately discovers who is behind the disappearance and it reveals an ugly side of fame. All the while, the characters are believable and compelling as we are whisked along to the conclusion.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

While most of the usual secondary characters show up, I find the books that use them more in the mystery story line tend to be stronger. This one mainly focuses on Savannah's work on the mystery, though Tammy has a nice secondary story line where we get more background on her life than in all the other books combined.

Some readers, especially new to this series, may not enjoy the time spent on the characters' personal lives, but I liked it. Savannah's core "family" is just so darn nice.

Hide and Sneak: A Savannah Reid Mystery
By G.A. McKevett

Review by Cynthia Chow

For once, life for California private investigator Savannah Reid is rather calm and uncharacteristically devoid of violence, intrigue, or family drama. In fact, the only snafu popping up among her many dependent adult siblings is the arrival of her brother’s socialite new in-laws. It only takes a few hours of baby-sitting her two-month-old niece to have Savannah jumping at the chance for a new Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency case. Action movie star Ethan Malloy has misplaced his wife and child, and he is desperate that they be found without attracting the attention of the voracious paparazzi and tabloid media. Unfortunately, that option becomes unavoidable when the nanny is found murdered, their car abandoned, and Ethan made the primary suspect.

As much as Savannah may lust after the movie icon – much to the distain of her husband, Detective Sergeant Dirk Coulter – she doesn’t envy his loss of privacy or the number of those eager to profit off his life. That makes a long list of suspects for Savannah to investigate, with the one benefit of this being that it distracts her assistant/sister-in-law Tammy from the dread of being a disappointment to her parents. Former exes, predatory managers, and enamored assistants all become targets of the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency, who themselves are at odds with the investigation of Savannah’s husband and the rest of the San Carmelita police.

Many of the previous 22 installments of this series featured Savannah struggling to balance detective work with the arrivals of her adored but needy family members. Here the focus falls far more upon Tammy, who has evolved far past her original introduction as a health-food obsessed, Dirk-detesting, Barbie-esque computer whiz. It’s fascinating to see this normally confident and smart woman so vulnerable to her mother’s disapproval, especially in light of Savannah’s strong self-esteem and positive body image. Savannah may have herself been raised without money and only occasionally by her alcoholic mother, but all of Tammy’s family wealth can’t compete with the unconditional love of Granny Reid. While the investigations by Savannah and her husband do eventually coincide, readers will be happy to have the chance to spend time with the handsome security team of Ryan Stone and John Gibson. This long-running series remains reliably entertaining and emotionally satisfying, balancing heart-warming moments with jokes and wry observations. The trademark snarky banter, Southern cooking, and smart investigating ensure that fans will continue to follow the adventures of their favorite Georgia transplant.

Savannah is asked by her close friends, John and Ryan, to help a movie star friend locate his wife and child who have gone missing.

At the same time, Tammy, the IT person of the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency, and new mom, is stressing over her parents coming to see the baby. Once they arrived, I really wanted to send Tammy’s mom packing with a good tongue lashing. What an evil, self-centered, self-absorbed, everything must make me look good, pain in the rear. Tammy let it slide far longer than I would have.

I enjoy Dirk and Savannah together and always have a few chuckles with their banter. I especially liked Dirk’s comment about keeping “big Dirk and the twins under wraps.” Dirk’s character has come a long way. He’s still a gruff, protective, straight talking, can make a penny scream, take no crap cop. BUT it’s also nice to see how he softens with Savannah, granny, the baby and occasionally Tammy.

I liked seeing John and Ryan. I think the best books of this series has these two actively involved in the case. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I can hear John’s British accent in my head. ;)

These books are a fun, light, escape for an afternoon read. I look forward to the next one.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.

As usual, G.A. McKevett does not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. I love the dynamics between the regular characters. They are like old friends to me and I love getting to catch up with what is going on in their lives!

I remember Savannah Reid as a plus-size PI obsessed with food and goofy about guys. Now, I'm pleased to read that she has come to terms with her weight, married a man who loves her as she his, and settled into a happy life with her friends and family.
She even has movie star clients. But fame and fortune don't make it easier when that famous client's wife and child go missing.
Savannah and her police officer husband take different approaches to the disappearance. Savannah's also dealing with parental issues in her home circle.. The side stories add an emotional dimension to the case, but don't distract from the story.
The book is well written, well plotted, and fun to read. Savannah is as perky and bodacious as ever. I need to go back and read the books in this series that I missed!

Hide and Sneak by G. A. McKevett is the 23rd book in the Savannah Reid Mystery series, and another great addition. I love this series, and reading a new book is like visiting old friends. Savannah is a private investigator who owns the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency and her husband Dirk, is a police detective. Savannah and Dirk end up working the same case when the nanny for a movie actor is found dead, and his wife and baby are missing. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book.

It's all about family. Savanah Reid and the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency are one kind of family, a great team looking out for each other. Their current case involves another family - a missing mother and child. The husband last saw them, in the company of their nanny, after an argument. The nanny is found murdered. Working with her police detective husband, Dirk, they search for the mother and child while, at the same time, they help Tammy deal with her difficult parents. Her mother is determined to take her back to New York. Sorry, not going to happen if Savanah has anything to say about it. Tammy wants to stay, her husband and child and her extended family are her world and her mother better get used to it.
This is #23 in the series but it can be read alone. The mystery is solid, full of the necessary twists and turns and surprises. The characters are people I would like to know...with the exception of Tammy's parents.

Savanna Reid has to help find a movie stars missing wife and child in this new book. And they also have to figure out who killed the nanny. So the detective agency has a lot to do. This was a great fast paced don’t wanna put down book. I almost missed making supper cause this is so good. I also love how she keeps us guessing who it is . Every time I thought it was this person or that person I was wrong.

I absolutely love Savannah! She is a smart, strong southern woman who has surrounded herself with a wonderful cast of characters. This story was heart wrenching and heart warming at the same time.

John and Ryan call on Savannah to help a friend who just happens to be a popular movie star, one that Savannah thinks is quite the hunk. When she meets up with Ethan he is very upset, you see his wife left after an argument taking his son and the nanny with her. Ethan hasn't been able to reach his wife since she left and he's worried that something may have happened to them. Savannah immediately starts asking questions so that she can begin looking for Ethan's family. When the Nanny is found murdered in a park the family frequented Savannah truly begins to worry about where Ethan's wife and child are. Follow along as she delves into Ethan's life and uncovers the real culprit behind their disappearance. This is such a fun series for me because I'm from Georgia and all of Savannah's siblings are named after towns that I'm familiar with. Granny reminds me of my own and I'm always excited to see what southern sayings she will use next.
