The Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency is at it again. Savannah and her friends/co-workers must look for a missing wife and child. The nanny is also missing but later turns up dead.
Throughout the course of solving the crimes, Tammy and Waycross are dealing with Tammy’s parents, in particular her snotty mother. Her mother does not respect her daughter, her lifestyle or location. She is convinced that Tammy and the baby need to be in New York and heck with what anyone else wants.
I like the characters, the extreme sense of family outside of Waycross’ in-laws. There is humor, insights into dealing with suspects as well as family. Savannah always has interesting cases and family situations.
Every single book by this author makes me love the series more and more! I am thinking I want to go back and re read them all again. Savannah and Dirk and the rest of the characters are just great! This latest release had me hooked from the first page until the end. If you like fun mysteries, great characters, and great story lines then this series is one for you!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
I received am ARC from Netgalley. G.A. McKevett is one of my favorite authors and I'm always excited to read the newest in her series. I love Savannah Reid. It's not often that you find a heroine that's plus size and proud of it. This book included the usual cast of characters. The storyline was about finding a movie stars missing wife and child. Lots of humor thrown in along with lots of love.
A delightful addition to this long running series- but you can read and enjoy it as a standalone. Savannah is in California now so of course she's going to get involved in a case where the wife and son of an actor-Ethan- have gone missing and the nanny is dead. Her husband Dirk is also on the case as are her friends in the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency. There are some secrets here, as well as some twists, and the mystery is pretty entertaining. A secondary plot line involves the totally unrealistic parents of Tammy (especially her mother), Savannah's sister in law and employee, who want her to leave her husband and bring her baby to their home in New York. What snots. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fun cozy series that mixes family and mystery.
Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency’s is back with another case. In this latest case the handsome up-and-coming actor Ethan Malloy has enlisted the help of Savannah and Co. in a desperate attempt to track down his missing wife and child. Something seems off about the nanny so when the family nanny gets murdered, it's time for Savannah to get busy.
I had a tough time getting into this book. It seemed a bit stifled in the beginning but once I got into it, I was intrigued.
Be sure to grab your copy from Kensington Mystery & Thrillers on April 24th
I volunteered to read and review an ARC from the publisher using NetGalley.

This is the 23th book in Savannah Reid Mystery series but it can be read as a standalone.
Savannah is babysitting her niece when she gets a call about new case concerning none other than a famous actor hearththrob, Ethan Malloy who needs her help locating his missing wife and son. On he home front Tammy's parents are coming for a visit and everyone is expecting the worst.
Great thriller, fast paced and suspenseful. Not too gloomy even though the topic is quite serious.
Charming characters, some you love, others you love to hate. Intervowen are musings on families, different kinds and relations and ties that bind them.
Accent is on how we should support those we love and freely express our feelings for them.
Especially interesting is Savannah and Dirk's relationship and their easy bannter and coziness of the book despite the seriousness of the story.
Thoroughly enjoyable read.
i thought this book was a pretty good addition to this long running series. In this one, Savannah is attempting to find the missing wife and child of a well known movie star, and also deal with the drama of meeting the stuck up parents of her brother’s wife (and Savannah’s best friend)Tammy.
I really liked the push pull between Tammy’s parents and all of her Southern friends who just wanted what was best for her. I just wanted Tammy to stand up to her mom the whole time!! Although it was a little hard to believe that someone’s mother would be that openly nasty to her own daughter.
As always, the tongue in cheek interplay between Dirk and Savannah was entertaining, and I will be reading the next book in this series. These books are great for a light read.
A copy of this book was provided to me by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Savannah Reid and the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency are back with their newest case. This time, a famous and much loved actor's wife, son and nanny have disappeared and Savannah has been hired to find them. On top of that, Tammy's parents are in town and her mother is determined to make her come home with them. She thinks Tammy's marriage, new baby and choice of career are all a big mistake. But don't worry... Savannah and Granny will set things right.
This series is lots of fun, full of sass, and southern charm. This book was no exception. If you enjoy a good mystery and could use a pick-me-up, then this is the book for you.
This is the 23rd book in the series and it is still as good as ever. The character development in this issue is my favorite part. Tammy is now married to Savannah's brother and they have a beautiful new baby, but now she has to deal with her awful mother, who doesn't approve of anyone in Tammy's life, including her choice of career, her friends, her husband or even her baby! Savannah and her husband Dirk do their best just to be there for Tammy and love her unconditionally. And, as always, they have a mystery to solve!
Hide and Sneak is the 23rd book in G. A. McKevett’s Savannah Reid Mystery awesome series. The author provides enough character background that this book can be read as a standalone without the reader feeling lost. The storyline is well thought out, the well-developed characters are affable, is full of compassion and caring, and the dialogue is witty and engaging. There are lots of laughs and some adult language, but no graphic violence or sexually explicit situations. This quickly paced whodunit kept me guessing until the reveal. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading light, cozy mysteries.
Savannah Reid used to be a police officer, but now she’s the owner of the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency in San Carmelita, California. Ethan Malloy, a successful film star hires Savannah to find his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Sarsone, and their twenty-one month old son, Freddy. Beth stormed out of their home, taking Freddy and his nanny, Pilar Padilla, after having an intense argument with Ethan the previous day. Beth isn’t responding to his phone calls or text messages and Pilar’s parents are worried because they haven’t heard from her. Savannah’s husband, Detective Sergeant Dirk Coulter, is called out to investigate a suspicious death in a local park. Once the victim is identified as Pilar and the coroner determines the cause of death, the search is on for a murderer. Time is of the essence and Savannah, her team, Dirk, and his officers, quickly begin an all-out search for Beth and Freddy. Meanwhile, Savannah is worried about Tammy, who isn’t just her talented assistant, but also her best friend and sister-in-law. Tammy hasn’t been herself since she learned her parents were coming to visit her, her new husband, Waycross, and their two-month-old daughter, Vanna Rose. Savannah quickly learns that Tammy’s mother, Dr. Lenora Hart, is a snobbish complainer who has no respect for what her daughter wants, and tries to convince her to leave Waycross and move back to New York.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
Love Savannah and the gang! This was an entertaining and well written book. Moments of laughter and moments of sadness. Tammy's mother is a bitch but Tammy, with Savannah's support, overcomes her feelings of inadequacy.
I have been a fan of this series from the very beginning and I love seeing how the relationships between the major characters have developed and deepened. The love that has grown throughout the books between Savannah and Dirk and now also between Tammy and Waycross, and now adding their new daughter, has made me feel like I am visiting old friends with each new book. Savannah is the owner of the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency and her friends John and Ryan have recommended her services to Ethan, a famous actor who is also a hearthrob to Savanah and Tammy. When Savannah meets with him he tells her that his wife, toddler son and the nanny are missing. Later that night Dirk calls to tell Savannah he is the responding detective to a newly found homicide and Savannah realizes that the dead body is that of the nanny.
With their cases intersecting, Dirk and Savannah rush to find Ethan's wife Beth and son Freddy before it is too late. The case makes for an interesting mystery but it is the characters who make this series so appealing.
In the latest installment of the Savannah Reid series, Savannah and the midnight magnolia team are searching for the missing wife and son of a famous actor. They left with the child's nanny after the actor and his wife had a argument and they didn't come home. But when the nanny turns up dead at the park where they frequented, things don't look good for the actors wife and son. On top of the case, Tammy parents are in town and Tammy isn't exactly happy to see them so the case is a welcome distraction.
I always love reading about Savannah and her family and friends. I like that we finally got to meet Tammys parenets, though I could have done without the mother. She was too snobbish and had no respect for what her daughter wants. I loved Tammy and Waycross little Vanna Rose, and how good Dirk was with her. Wonderful edition to the series.
A fast read with lovable characters. You could probably read as a stand alone but you would miss the well loved background of the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency and the Reid/Coulter families.
When Savannah's newest client becomes the lead suspect in Dirk's latest homicide, everyone rallies to uncover all of the potential suspects until the true kidnapper and killer confesses.
Tammy's stuffy NYC parents arrive in San Carmelita CA to take her back,, away from the transplanted Georgia family she loves. With Savannah's support Tammy is able to make herself heard.
Solving the crime was a steady plot with many 'who done it' twists.
Savannah Reid and the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency have a new case that is about a movie star and his missing wife and child. The child's nanny, also missing at first, has been found, dead in a park. The wife's car and the child's back pack of necessities are later found in the same park bringing chills to PI Savannah as well as husband police detective Dirk Coulter.
While Savannah and Dirk are trying to find the missing wife and son as well as get to the bottom of the nanny's murder, Tammy and Waycross are going through a rough visit from Tammy's parents. Although you would be hard pressed to find a nicer, smarter, or more loyal friend and employee, Tammy's parents have little love or respect for her. They are trying to talk Tammy into leaving Waycross and bringing baby Vanna back to New York. How long can Tammy hold firm? Will her horrible snotty mother ever give up? When they all meet up for dinner, even Granny is unable to make Tammy's mother become less offensive. One thing is clear, only the mother is fighting to get Tammy to leave California. Her father doesn't add anything to the conversation, and both Tammy and Waycross are adamant that she is staying.
I always enjoy this series as the author manages to dispense wisdom on keeping a husband happy as Savannah solves grizzly crimes. Her tact and techniques often come from helping raise 9 siblings and listening to her wise granny. Her ability as a PI to solve cases come from being a policewoman as well as all the common sense she has accrued. Author McKevett has presented a close knit group of intelligent and sensitive individuals as the core of her series. While much fun is made of Dirk and his redneck ways (and grumpiness and lack of tact), he also shows that he knows how to handle the people he comes in contact with exactly as they need. Between Dirk and the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency, years of experience, success at solving crimes, and good judgement of people they come in contact with have paid off. Each book deals with crimes of a serious nature, but along with dispensing sensible advice, there is humor and love. It adds up to a winning combination for the series.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy for my voluntary review
LOVED this book! This is another fun and quickly moving mystery following Savannah and her team at the Midnight Magnolia Detective Agency, along with her husband Dirk. While employee and close friend Tammy is dealing with family complications, Savannah is called in to assist a famous actor when his wife, son, and nanny go missing. Before long, they're in the middle of a fast moving mystery with suspects popping up all over.
I particularly enjoyed the writers style and the way "southernisms" are woven through the novel....that is set in California. The dialogue is witty and engaging and I cared about the characters and felt invested in their story. If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book.
While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel. The author is on my must read authors' list and should probably be on yours as well.
Savannah, Dirk, Tammy, and the rest of the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency are some of my favorite characters. I so look forward to every book - and this one was absolutely wonderful. Along with a great mystery with the swoon-worthy Ethan Malloy and thoughtful and sassy (at times) dialog amongst the characters, there's the element of "family" whether it's the one you are born into or the one you choose. This is truly a fantastic book -- I loved each and every page. Highly recommended.
