One Last Breath by Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush
One Last Breath is kind of all over the place! The heroine makes a lot of really stupid and selfish decisions, going into hiding without letting her husband know she's pregnant. She has no clue who she's even hiding from. There was also a lot of repetition, recounting events that readers are already aware of in detail. I usually like Lisa Jackson, but this just didn't work for me.
I did not receive notification that I had been approved to read this book or would have. I write down all books to be read and it also did not show up in my start reading list. I am frustrated but hope you understand. :( If you would like for me to still review and can send a copy I am willing to read/review. I have enjoyed both of these authors in the past.
Great thrilling novel which kept me turning the pages, would highly recommend to others. Brilliant writing, plot and characters.
The sister duo of Jackson and Bush is a strong force. This is a great read that will keep you guessing. Great suspense and character development!
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this book. I love Lisa Jackson's books and when she co-writes with her sister, it feels like you've won the lottery!
This book starts off with a bang (okay actually a knife, but you get the meaning) and sets the tone for a tensely written mystery novel, not leaving the reader until the very end.
Recommend.
Rory thinks she's doing what's best. Staying away from the man she loved more than life itself. After their wedding day turned into a horror show, she felt like she had no choice. Making a new life for herself wasn't easy, but it's what she thought was necessary for the survival of her and her child.
When Liam finally finds Rory he can't believe that she's not only keeping what happened that night from him, but has also been keeping his child from him, a child he knew nothing about. His anger is nothing compared to Rory's paranoia. Thinking that there is still someone out there, someone who wants them both dead.
What Liam doesn't realize is how right Rory is.
A suspenseful and twisting story from sisters Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush.
I received this book by Netgalley as an ARC, in exchange for my honest review.
Rory Abernathy’s wedding to Liam Bastian turned into a bloodbath. She fled after stabbing a masked intruder, just before a gunman opened fire on the wedding party. Five years on, Rory still has no idea who was behind the attacks. Fearful she and her daughter remain targets, she’s made a new life far from Liam and the wealthy, powerful Bastians.
While I normally love this author, I struggled through this book. The suspense is lacking. The characters are relatable, but with so many introduced it was hard to care about any of them.
Rory Abernathy fled on the day of her wedding to Liam Bastian after she stabbed a masked intruder right before a gunman opened fire on the wedding party. Five years later Rory still has no idea who was behind the attacks. Fearful she and her daughter remain targets, she’s created a new life far from Liam and the wealthy, powerful Bastian family.
But Liam tracks Rory down and is stunned to learn they have a child. But someone is still determined to murder Rory. A shocking ending to the discovery of who is behind the attacks on her life.
Very good book. What we've come to expect from Lisa Jackson. Recommend. Library patrons are giving good reviews also.
Whew, this was a tough one for me. I really enjoy Lisa Jackson's books, but man oh man did this one move slower than the sloths working at the DMV in Zootopia. Rare is it, that a book takes me 2 weeks to finish. Rare is it that I read two different books at once......did it with this one. I muscled through it only because I wanted to see if Liam was idiot enough to go back to Rory. Perhaps if I had even remotely liked Rory, I could have enjoyed the book more? I don't know, just at a loss with this one.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rory and Liam were married several weeks ago but to appease his family they agree to a family wedding ceremony. When someone tries to kidnap her she stabs them and flees just as gunfire erupts on the wedding party. After 5 years of hiding in Washington Rory sees Liam as he has searched for her and they are both very wary of trusting each other. As they start reuniting as a family, they are being stalked and someone is trying to prevent their reunion. Lots of action and plenty of candidates to be the bad guy. I didn't love Rory, she seemed a little stand offish. The beginning of the story was action packed and pulled me in but I thought the story bogged down. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
It pulls you into the story and keeps you guessing , with that said I want to say thanks to Netgalley for letting read and review One Last Breath, in change for my honest opinion.
I am a big fan of Lisa Jackson's and Nancy Bush's books so it was no surprise when this book was just as fantastic and suspenseful as all their books. Loved Rory ..loved the story line. Great book!
I love both Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush. But I didn't love this book, I'm sorry to say.
The book begins with two simultaneous attacks on the wedding of Liam Bastian and Rory Abernathy, a mismatched pair of lovers from opposite sides of the tracks. Rory runs, taking the couple's unborn child with her, vowing to disappear forever. But five years later, Liam finally tracks Rory down ... and then people start turning up dead. Who was behind the attacks five years earlier, and are they back to finish the job?
The book starts out great - it's action-packed and very mysterious. But then, things lose steam. The Rory-Liam chase goes on too long, and the cat-and-mouse game they play is too dragged out. I would have liked more focus on the mystery and the characters themselves, rather than that melodrama.
Also, I didn't really like either Liam or Rory. I didn't feel the chemistry between them and I quickly became annoyed by Rory's insistence that she had to stay hidden - it's never entirely clear why exactly she thinks that, especially when everyone around her agrees that she needs to stop running.
There are some nice twists in there that kept me entertained toward the end and like I said, the mystery itself is pretty good - it proves that Jackson and Bush still have what it takes. This book itself is just a miss.
I'd skip this one in favor of another by these ladies.
One Last Breath . When Rory and Liam bump into each other it is love at first sight. Little did they know the events that would follow them with Liam from a family of wealth and social status and a very controlling enviroment. Rory with a family from the wrong side of the tracks with a history of dysfunction and crime.
A lot of colorful characters with strong personalities! This one has a run away bride, phsical attacks, murders, missing persons, lies and deceitand even more. The ending is a total shocker !
As complicated as it sounds it was interesting and aneasy read to follow.
Lisa Jackson never disapoints.
Rory should be the happiest bride around ... she's marrying Liam, the man she actually married 2 months ago. To appease her new mother-in-law she's consented to remarry in a church service.
But as she's getting ready. a masked man attacks her. She manages to stab him and make her escape, but not before he threatens to find her and finish the job.
Not knowing what to do and being so scared, she does what makes sense to her at the time ...run! Protect the unborn baby she carries that no one ... not even her husband.. . knows anything about.
Meanwhile someone has fired upon the wedding party. Rory's brother is killed, Liam is badly injured, her father in law is paralyzed.
It is now 5 years later and Rory has changed her identity and now dotes on her daughter. She's working as a waitress and most people think she is hiding from an abusive husband.
And one day the unthinkable happens ... Liam shows up looking for her.
The book started out with a bang ... literally. It's action -packed, yet slowed down for a short while before picking up speed again. There are a lot of characters to keep track of ..some living, some dead. For those who really enjoy, this Romantic Suspense will work just fine.
Many thanks to the authors / Kensington Books - Zebra / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I always like this author, so no surprise that I like this book. Well worth taking a look if you like romantic suspense.
This is a tough book to review, it's a good story and I mostly liked the main characters but, there were so many characters to keep track of and so much of the book just dragged needlessly. The ending was a bit unexpected.
Another great book by these two sisters. I love the suspense and their style of writing. I loved the twists and the storyline. Lisa Jackson still remains as one of my favorite writers.
This was my first book by Lisa Jackson and had a great start.
It really pulls you in, but then it starts to drag and just pick up its pace again close to the end. It was kind of frustrating.
Rory just kept grating on my nerves, always running away to the point that I was rolling my eyes non stop.
