A cute hallmark story.

Perfect Catch reads just like a Hallmark Movie, as it should. This is a charming and sweet love story about young lovers reconnecting years later. It’s a classic love story that has likable characters and an interesting storyline. If you want a light hearted, quick read, this is for you!
Thank you to Netgalley and Hallmark for the chance to review this book in exchange of an honest review.
This is such a refreshing book. A wonderful story about second chances. It was a sweet, sad and happy read. I love reading anything that's published by Hallmark because you know it's going to be a clean book with no crude language. Thank you NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for the free copy of this book. This is my honest opinion of this book.
The Perfect Catch by Cassidy Carter
Based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie
Source: Nethalley
My Rating: 4½/5 stars
Parker Falls is a small town, a community, a place where no matter your circumstances, you can come home to a welcoming group of friends and family. In the worst way possible, Chase Taynor is learning this lesson. As a professional baseball player, Chase has spent more than a decade in the limelight, but his last game hung on his talents, he just couldn’t pull it off, and the whole world saw his failure. With no new contract and no teams knocking on his door, Chase has headed home to lay low and pray for a miracle.
His first day back in town, Chase runs into the girl who got away, Jessica Parker. Chase’s career and Jessica’s family circumstances separated the two more than a decade ago, and though he has dated other women, none of them were Jessica Parker. Chase doesn’t intend to be home for long but hanging out with Jessica seems to be the perfect way to pass the time and forget about his troubles for just a little while.
Jessica Parker and her young son Wesley haven’t had the greatest run over the last couple of years. Wesley’s dad needed to “get away to find himself” and their family restaurant hasn’t been bringing in business the way it used to. What’s more, Jessica’s safe-won’t-break-her-heart boyfriend isn’t at all what he started out to be. While he is still friendly, he doesn’t seem quite as invested in the relationship as he once did. Lately, he’s seemed more interested in growing his insurance business than he is in being with Jessica and Wesley. When Chase Taynor walks back into her life and restaurant, Jessica isn’t quite sure if he’s part of the not so great run of luck or something entirely different.
Though Jessica is somewhat wary of Chase’s presence, Wesley isn’t at all wary. In fact, with Chase’s help, Wesley begins to come out of his shell and truly enjoy his extracurricular activities. In fact, with Chase’s help, Wesley is becoming quite the baseball player! Jessica loves seeing her young son so happy, and because of his change, she begins to think about some changes in her own life. Though change often involves risk, Jessica is ready for the challenge, and if she doesn’t do something, she’s going to lose everything.
The Bottom Line: Y’all I am stupid in love with these based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie books!! These books are exactly what I love about Hallmark movies, there’s just enough conflict to keep things interesting, there are sweet characters you really want to see succeed, and, of course there’s the guaranteed HEA. Chase, Jessica, and Wesley are all simply delightful characters and it was wonderful seeing each one receives their own unique and collective second chance. Second chance romance, coming home stories, yeah, this is the best of all things romance and well worth an afternoon of your life 😊
After high school Jessica Parker stayed in Parker Falls to run her family's diner and raise her son, Wesley. Lately both have been harder than she expected. Business has fallen off at the diner and her son is missing not having a dad to teach him baseball. Her high school love and MLB player, Chase Taynor has come back home as he awaits his new MLB home after a bad play that causes his team to lose the World Series. Jessica and Chase fall right back into the friendship they have always had but will Chase decide to stay in Parker Falls or will the call of fame and fortune lure him away?
This book is based on the Hallmark movie of the same name which I have not watched. It is a sweet story with a predictable ending but that is what you want and expect when it comes to Hallmark. You know you will finish the book with a smile.
A clean romance for all ages from a young teenager say 14 to my 90 year old grandma. No sex, no foul language and no violence.
I received a complimentary copy from Hallmark Publishing through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the review are my own.
I should have let the Hallmark part be a warning this book was going to be cheesy. It was eyeroll and barely finished the book cheesy. I don't think it was convincely rewritten to be read either.
Baseball + a second chance love story + Hallmark = One fantastic summer read.
You'll want to read this in your beach chair with your peanuts, cracker jacks, and hot dogs.
When he got his big break into baseball, Chase left his hometown--and his love, Jessica, behind. She got on with her life, married, and had a son. Now, she's a single mom with no time for love when Chase returns to town. Can they finally find out what matters most--family and love?
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The perfect second chance at love story. Great characters that were believable and good storyline. I liked that Jess decided to step outside her comfort zone and take a chance with her business after playing it safe for so long in work and in love. After suffering a career setback Chase also needed to make some changes to his life. Love me a small town romance and this was a great easy read.
The Perfect Catch is a sweet second chance romance with a HEA. I saw the Hallmark movie months ago and thought this would be a nice read. I was right, it's sweet and light, not much angst here. It was enjoyable to read the story which kept very close to the movie, having the visuals already in my head. There is some backstory and internal dialog that gives more depth. I liked the characters and particularly the development of Chase from a selfish Pro ballplayer into a family man with dreams of more than a paycheck and stars in his eyes. Wes is an adorable kid with a realistic and hopeful outlook. I liked Jess and her determination to make the best life herself and her son with the tools she has in front of her. This is a Hallmark story so I wasn't expecting any steam, it's sweet
Publisher's Description:
She’s small-town.
He’s big-league.
They broke up years ago…
But is it really over?
In the small town of Parker Falls, Jessica Parker spends her time serving pie and coming up with ideas to save the failing diner she inherited from her grandfather. A single mom to eight-year-old Wesley, she has enough to keep her busy well into the future. But when her old high school love, Chase Taynor, unexpectedly pops up, Jess finds herself thinking not of the future but of her past with the handsome professional baseball player.
After a few bad pitches leave his dream career in limbo, Chase slides back home to Parker Falls…although the town may not be as safe as he’d expected. As Jess and Chase reconnect, old feelings return in a major-league way.
With the possibility that Chase could return to the baseball diamond at any time, will their reunion be worth the risk to their hearts? Or will it be déjà vu all over again, with Chase choosing the limelight over the woman he loved before the fame?
My Thoughts:
I loved this second chances book. It is both a second chance at love and dreams story that draws the reader in and never lets go.
Chase Taynor and Jessica Parker were high school sweethearts but Chase left to pursue his dream of playing major league baseball. Now after a disastrous 9th inning where he gave up the chance to win a world series he has come back home to wait to see if any baseball team will give him a second chance.
Jessica is busy trying to save her family's failing diner which she inherited. Trying desperately to juggle the life of a single mom and the diner is all that is on her mind until Chase suddenly is back in her life.
Will this second chance at romance for Chase and Jessica win out in the end or will Chase's second chance at his dream win?
This poignant and delightful Hallmark story is a must read.
I gave it 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development. I really liked most of the characters, especially those of Chase, Jessica and her eight year old son in this sweet/clean story of a developing second chance at romance story..
The heat level is zero in this book that was a 2017 Hallmark original movie.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
This was my first Hallmark book to read and due to social media advertising I became interested in reading it. I requested a copy via netgalley and was approved.
While the overall storyline seemed to follow a typical Hallmark movie, I struggled with the actual writing. For example, there were POV issues. I would be reading a scene and get confused about who’s POV the scene was in. One scene I read jumped from one POV to another in the middle of the scene instead of waiting for a scene break or chapter break. Not sure either why the male protagonist’s POV kept referring to his parents by ther first name.
Another issue I saw was the dialogue tags. They were at the beginning of the sentence. For example, “Jessi said,...” I read this type of sentence structure over and over and it was very distracting for one to have “said” at the beginning of the sentence instead of at the end. Also, dialogue beats were rare but should have been added in more often.
While the overall plot was fine, the actual execution of the writing made this difficult to read.
This book is a book of hope. Two teenagers in love decide to break and go in different directions. He becomes a pro baseball player who has done well but is now in bad shape. She rebounded married the wrong guy had a son and got a divorce. They met again.
3.5 Stars
I saw this movie on Hallmark and then when I saw the book was available I wanted to read it. The heroine is much more appealing than Chase. He left, He led the good life. He never looked back. That's a hard line for me and he crossed it. So even though he came back he still had his doubts and had to talk himself into coming back to town.
The Perfect Catch is a home run! The characters are likeable and have real life worries, hopes, and problems. The plot is interesting with a happily ever after ending.
The Perfect Catch is a small town, second chance romance and it was wonderful. These are basically my key words so this book ticked a lot of boxes for me. Oh and it’s a sports romance which is another must read factor for me.
I haven’t seen the Hallmark movie that inspired this book but after reading this it has gone right to the top of my ‘to watch’ list.
This is a really sweet, wholesome and family orientated read. It’s a very different pace to the romances I usually read but sometimes that is exactly what I need to cleanse the palate. This book is low on angst and full of likeable characters!
I really enjoyed this book. Superstar athlete returning to his home town to hide out for a little while and reconnecting with his high school sweetheart. The author created a great balance between sexy and respectful. Highly recommend
An adorable read! I love when I’m able to read my hallmark movies as well as watch them!
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
This was a delightful Hallmark movie, but it was not an all-time favorite one for me--maybe because I'm not a baseball fan, who knows? But I expected a great novelization, and the author absolutely hit it out of the park! I found myself reliving memorable moments of the film and understanding character motivations in a much fuller sense. I actually feel like putting the movie on and watching it again with a much deeper understanding--something I'll do in the near future I'm sure.
There are two things that these companion novels seem to consistently provide: comfort reading and mildly profound perspectives. When the typical viewer watches a Hallmark movie, there are sometimes things that don't make sense at first because the viewer doesn't know the backstory or doesn't understand a character's motivation. In this book, I believe the readers were given both. And with that delightful epilogue to wrap everything up, I couldn't be more pleased!
Jessica Parker and Chase Taynor had been sweethearts and had planned their lives after graduation, but Chase got a call to play baseball with the big boys so he left Parker Falls and had been gone for 15 years. Jessica had moved one, married, became a mother, divorced and now was raising a son, Wes, alone, while trying to keep her family's diner in the black. She wasn't succeeding and was scared that before long she would lose the diner to the bank. She had to come up with something else to breathe life back into her place.
Chase was back. He had not been resigned with Boston and now was a famous baseball player without a team. He had come back to Parker Falls expecting it to be for only a couple of weeks, but the possibility was there that his career would be over. As he began to reconnect with Jessica and bonded with her son, Wes, he saw that maybe he had been missing something in his life. Was returning to baseball the thing he wanted most or was a family with the woman he loved more important? He was going to have to make a tough choice but would it be the right one before it was too late?
I really enjoyed this story. It was a sweet story of second change love and of love conquering all odds. It was a story of rebuilding trust and learning to depend on the help of others in difficult times. It was a clean story with no sex or foul language and was beautifully told.
I was given an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Get ready for diner food as we travel to the small town of Parker Falls in The Perfect Catch based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie.
Jessica Parker has a failing diner. She is trying to come up with ideas to save it. On top of the fact that she is struggling to keep the lights on, she inherited the diner from her grandfather, so the pressure is on to save it.
Chase Taynor is a baseball player and happens to be Jessica's former high school love. He shows up out of the blue, struggling in his career.
I remember enjoying this movie when it was on, and the book brought the scenes back to life. I could picture the pie in the diner and Chase connecting with Jessica's son.
The Perfect Catch was a journey of love, hope, and second chances. This was another great addition to Hallmark's line of books.
