Mysterious, enthralling and well written, the main character was interesting and at times not always easy to empathise with which kept me interested. Keeps you guessing
A strong read. A psychological thriller that messes with your head as well as playing with the characters in the storyline. I was drawn into the story and stayed with it all the way through without best guessing the final outcome. The author drops you titbits to try and pieces it together then thy fall away as another avenue is laid before you. Can you even trust your nearest and dearest?. What a family to be associated with. Everyone has 5heir own tale to tell . Double and triple deceits abound.
If the book does not immediately draw you in I urge you persevere and not b3 put off by the going and fringe. You will be well rewarded. A skilfully put together tale
Good storyline but it was quite slow in places only for it to be sped up again in the next chapter. A hell of a lot of speed flipping. I didn't know whether I was coming or going....
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. On the whole, I enjoyed the book, but I found it hard to always stay on track with who was speaking - really divided about this one.
Thank You to Netgalley and Aria publishing for giving me a copy of this great book.
5 Stars.
Just "WOW" What an amazing read this is. its a very dark and powerful Psychological Suspense which kept me on my toes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and did not expect the outcome.
I think this is one to read if you are a fan of Mark Edwards. I would highly recommend this.
Well Done Jessica Jarlvi I am very impressed with this book. I didn't know what to expect as I haven't read your other book, but if it is anything like this one I shall keep an eye out for a copy and hopefully read it when my huge list of books goes down!!
Thought this was an amazing first book. . So good. Enjoyed writing and characters and development so very much
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
First of all, I did enjoy this book, it was so suspenseful once it go going. It was also so confusing at first; for the first third of the book, I had a hard time keeping track of the characters and who was who, almost thought I would have to make a chart. Then, the dots stared to be connected and I was surprised and horrified all at once. Great story, with a surprising ending, which I figured out way later than I would like to admit.
I will definitely be checking out more books by this author.
Reading this book is like being on a rollercoaster, with lots of twists and turns, leaving you breathless and wanting more. It is told by different characters and sometimes difficult to follow, but please stick with it, it is definitely worth it!
The main character is Kristen, who is on the run after her husband and brother in law are found dead in suspicious circumstances.
This is a book that will keep you guessing throughout, who or what to believe. A great read. Thanks to NetGalley and Aria for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I liked this book and contrary to some other reviews, I found the plot engaging. The ending was unexpected and enjoyable.
I enjoyed this book but thought it was confusing with the frequent change of timeline, having said that it was a good typical physiological thriller that I would definitely recommend
The cover screams read me the contents not so much, long drawn out and confusing. Not for me. Don't know if it's the translation that failed but the story had potential. Would not stop me reading her first book though which was raved about. Only 2 stars. Find it difficult to say anything else I am disappointed.
OMG this book is so screwed up it is amazing! Did not see where this was going at all and it kept me hooked in so well! Absolutely loved it!!!
Sadly I struggled to get into this book and gave up half way through. I could not connect with the story at all.
What Did I Do?
This is the question that Kristin is asking herself as her husband lies dying.
Now her Brother is dead, her Mother crippled after being pushed down the stairs and Kristin can’t recall doing any of it. But is certain that she must have.
But she’d remember killing someone, wouldn’t she?
In desperation and fear she flees America and begins a new life in her parents home country of Sweden. But she soon realises that it’s not that easy to escape the past.
Kristin is not alone in Sweden, but the person she is most afraid of finding her, is not the one that she needs to be afraid of.
For Kristin the answers and the people she needs to be hiding from are much closer to her than she ever imagined they be.
Can she discover the truth before it’s too late?
This is a really good read. The plot is confusing at the start and it took me a while to work everything out. The book flits backwards and forwards between Chicago and Sweden. There is a lot happening in this book. The ending took me totally by surprise. This book is definitely worth reading.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
What a sinister, disturbing and fantastic read. Lock your door, switch off your phone and buckle in for a great ride.
What Did I Do? is told from the viewpoints of a number of characters. Kristin is on the run and is hiding out in Sweden. She may or may not have killed someone. Frank is mourning the loss of his youngest son who drowned in a lake and the disappearance of his daughter Sofia and his other son Peter. An initially unnamed young woman is in love with her ‘upper class’ boyfriend but is being drawn to a charismatic man she meets as she works as a waitress. Gabriella is a sculptor living in the grounds of a house which Frank and his wife Birgitta have just moved to on their relocation from the USA to Sweden.
The novel moves from action in the USA to Sweden and back. You gradually begin to see how all the characters intertwine with each other and what secrets they hold.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.
I was over the moon when I heard I was going to be reviewing What Did I Do by Jessica Jarlvi. Jessica’s previous book When I Wake Up was a real reading highlight for me in 2017. I started and finished When I Wake Up in one go.
We meet a whole host of different characters and at first, I found it quite confusing and I kept trying to connect the dots and I got frustrated. So, I gave in and just relaxed into the book and went on the journey. Jessica is an excellent story weaver, giving you just enough information then changing your thoughts in another direction.
We travel from Chicago to Sweden in the book and we flip flop from past to present day. Jessica drip feeding us the key clue jigsaw pieces of the story. It’s extremely fast-paced and what I thought was going to happen didn’t, so I was really pleased that the ending shocked me, and I was surprised.
It was refreshing not to know what would happen and in the end, I really didn’t like any of the characters this time around but sometimes that makes for a better book.
Jessica has a knack for making you feel all snug and comfortable, then she smacks you around the head with a plot twist that leaves you shocked and unsettled.
I found this book quite difficult to follow and the terminology quite strange. I struggled to finish it.
Multiple characters provide tantalising snippets of information in this psychological thriller. Set in Chicago and Sweden, this story has the pacing and sinister elements of a Scandinavian thriller.
All the characters have psychological issues, which makes finding the antagonist difficult. I did work out most the plot before the end, but there were a couple of surprises. What stands out in this story is the unmitigated evil of the antagonist, who is the puppeteer, while all the other characters are puppets to some degree, although few are entirely blameless.
The story's pace is slow and won't appeal to everyone, but if you like Scandinavian thrillers this has all the essential requirements.
I received a copy of this book from Aria via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
A solid, well written suspense thriller. It took me a while to realise the intricacies of some of the characters but the plot line was good and whilst I guessed the ending, it didn’t spoil the story. A good 3 stars.
