Thank you to netgalley I received this as an ARC. I enjoyed it very much was good solid read. Solid 3 Stars for me!
Is it possible to have a cozy satire, based heavily on a comedic portrayal of the current president in all of his awfulness? If so, then this is just that type of book, where modest wildness will occur, always with an eye towards comfort and possibly a relaxing moment. The president has resigned and now has scheduled a come-back cruise which requires some publicity; our protagonist has secured the job of writing the interview for that purpose. Of course, all manner of foolishness will occur on the cruise. This is an odd juxtaposition of politics and plot; never quite jelling into a great example of either. But kudos to the author for trying to create a novel hybrid form. I received by copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
So fair warning in advance that this could be polarizing- depending on how you feel about the current political situation. Some might find the satire offensive. That said, it's a funny take on current events even if the scenario is completely implausible. Jacob has a great sense of humor, it's well written, and all in all, a good read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I prefer my mysteries apolitical and Jacob to explore different locations but I still liked the book.
