If in first book of the Quest of the Kings Trilogy was mainly about finding the treasure, then the second book is about cat and mouse play, where the mouse tries to outsmart the cat with hiring a weasel as a help. It’s been years since the last book ended and Natale has run pretty many antique stores in pretty many cities in different kingdoms, that way she was helping Sir Edris and Reg, with keeping a safe harbor to them to come back to from their quests and Sire Edris and Reg kept her safe this way, with moving her often enough that her nemesis, Bragos would not find her.

When they start with their last quest, they understand that they will need help from somebody, who is not directly connected to them, so Natalie finds a boy from the streets, who has an deformed hand but he has very lively spirit. Magnus is perfect to “deliver” messages and “returning” books, and he manages all those things just fine enough, but he’s alone and he likes to talk and he eavesdrops every chance he gets, since he does not want to be made fool of, and so he hears things that he was not meant to hear, and mumbles the things to the few acquaintances he has, and that is not very good.

When Natalie has to pack and leave on a hurry once again, Magnus is hired by another Sir, who uses his displeasure with Natalie and Sir Erdis, and after a while Magnus realizes, that he has tangles himself into something that can cost him his life. And the things that Magnus have been sent to do now, may cost to somebody much more than life. It’s a long game and cruel game, but with long game there is always hope that some variables change and the hoped outcome will not come or at least not exactly how the perpetrator had hoped.

So step by step the readers are taken in the same direction where Edmund from The Riddle in Stone series is going.

It’s an thrilling and captivating story, let’s see where it takes us.

I didn't read the first book, but really enjoyed this one! I loved the adventure and enjoyed the characters and plot. The story is well written and the plot is fast paced.

I received a free copy of this for review from NetGalley **

I enjoyed the first; found it a lot of fun and I'm really glad I decided to continue with the trilogy and then received this ARC nonetheless. This trilogy keeps getting better in my opinion. I love Nat & Sir Edris's relationship. I also really enjoyed the character of Magnus and how real he felt. He reminded me a great deal of a friend of mine and I found myself laughing out loud a few times. I read this book in one sitting and will gladly pick it back up again. While i was a little disappointed there wasn't actually a quest involved in this book I really like the direction it's taking and can't wait to see how it ends.
