"The essences of wild-grown flowers, pioneered by Dr. Edward Bach for their innate remedial properties, provide an important holistic therapy for the safe healing and balancing of mind, body, and spirit."

This is a comprehensive guide to the basic “twelve healers” – the plants that formed the basis of his observations – and the further twenty-six remedies that the author went on to discover.

The book details what to expect when undergoing a professional consultation, and also includes a complete flower-by-flower directory. This guide is designed to give you the knowledge of how to utilise simple remedies in a safe manner, assisting to gently return you to good health.

A very much knowledge full book. I'm not sure if it is something that I would want to follow, but there is definitely enough information for anyone, from beginner to advance, to obtain and use their knowledge of flower remedies, and to take a good look into how to use them to better your health.

Whilst I have been exposed to the familiar Bach Remedies bottles both on pharmacy shelves and in my home, I have never stopped to learn the history of their development or the basis for each remedy. Secrets of Bach Flower Remedies covers both admirably without getting bogged down in details. If you are curious about how to create your own flower remedies, it covers how to do it step by step. Not sure what to use for which remedy? Each flower is covered intensely and clearly. The system resolves to treat the emotions of the patient rather than the symptoms of the ailment which is interesting. I believe strongly in the power of homeopathy but having been in the care of a homeopath since 8 years of age and having seen how carefully Georgie has crafted and tweaked each medicine, this approach seems simplistic. That is no criticism of the book but rather a compliment to the explanation given so I could see the difference as they were synonymous in my head prior to reading this. It is a great reference book.

Being Christian, I did enjoy learning the following snippets as they reminded me of scripture:

“Olive: When your reserves of spiritual and emotional energy are exhausted Olive helps to restore them” reminded me of Romans 11:17 NIV “If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root,”

“Mustard…dispels gloom and brings joy to life” brought to mind Matthew 17:20 NIV “He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.””
Five out of five, it delivers well on its promise!

Secrets of Bach Flower Remedies by Jeremy Harwood

2017
Non fiction, health
Ivy Press

I received this digital copy from NetGalley and Ivy Press in exchange for unbiased review.

This book is assembled in an easy to use format. It begins a with a description of the Bach system of healing and how to best utilize this book. Similarly, the book explains how the remedies are prepared and to best use them.

Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) was a London doctor who abandoned his orthodox training to become a pioneer in the field of homeopathy and flower remedies. “Treat the patient according to the mood, according to the character, and individuality and you will not go wrong.”

There’s a descriptive chart of which flowers should be prepared via sun method or boiling. The book is well organized with detailed pages and. Beautiful pictures of each flower with indications of use and expected outcome.

Secrets of Bach Flower Remedies is very comprehensive, it has over two hundred beautiful pages that explain each of the Bach flowers, their purpose and the personality that suits this treatment.
Dr Bach was a Harley street doctor who turned to flowers over a hundred years ago. Medicine wasn’t solving his patients problems - for so many of them the source was psychological. He infused a small amount of almost 40 different flowers and plants into different solutions and gave them a specific psychological application. For example Olive was given for when reserves of spiritual and emotional energy were exhausted. Mimulus (for known fears) and Aspen (unknown fears) for panic attacks; Rescue Remedy for times of crisis. Rescue Remedy is a mix of star of Bethlehem (for shock); rock rose (for terror and panic); clematis (for faintness); impatiens (for mental stress); and cherry plum (for loss of self control).
In his words Bach Flower Remedies are “like beautiful music which make you feel better, although you don’t know why it should.” The placebo effect is my answer, but I am fine with this as it is a well studied phenomenon that works, if Dumbo needed a feather to believe he could fly then let him have his feather. Just as children need a kiss after a fall so too can we turn to Bach Flower Remedies. I think the process of choosing which Bach Flower Remedy you need is a step towards recognising what you are feeling and once this is identified then those needs can be addressed. Brilliant gift for friends who are interested in alternative therapies.

Pretty good book about the history and uses of the 39 Bach Flowers the ones I know the best and have used often is a mix known as "Rescue Remedy". I didn't know a lot about the other flowers or how this came about I just knew it work on my dogs. There is a lot of great information and recipes to use, so if you are interested in this part of herbal medicine it is one for your reference shelf.
