Four stories that will change you for the better. Beth Wiseman does not hesitate to discuss depression, jealously, drugs, and abuse and how all those affect friendships, relationships and marriages. I admired how she tackled the subjects that everyone across every race, religion and social class experiences.
Whether you are a fan of Amish fiction/romance, Christian fiction/romance or are just looking for a book with some meat to it this is the book for you.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan Fiction through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
Four delightful page-turning Amish stories, that you can savor and read just one, or like the candy, finish them in one setting.
Each one will keep your attention and when the last of that one is finished, you will want more, at least until the final one is finish, and then I still wished I had more to go.
While the stories are all different they all emphasize the Amish lifestyle, with a mix of the English world out there. I loved how some of these novellas showed a perfect mix of the two worlds.
They also show a lot of the same challenges that go on no matter which culture you live in, and through out there is a love of God and family, which stress on Christian values.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.
I really enjoyed all 4 novel's in this book because of the way Beth Wiseman tells them. Loved the settle to each story and characters in each one. Loved the title to it and the cover. I truly can get in to Beth's books all of them they capture my attention from the start to the end.
I find novellas a wonderful way to introduce an author to patrons that want to try out a new author. These stories are not the typical Amish stories. Each have 'English' main characters that play an important part in each story. Each story have problems that readers can relate with. Faith is an important emphasis in each. Recommended!
This is a collection of sweet, clean Amish stories that will touch your heart. “A Christmas Miracle” was my favorite, as I thought it was not only a unique Amish story, but also a special Christmas story. Each story flows together well with the others even though the families are different in each one. Beth Wiseman does a great job of having her Amish characters experience problems that all of us might experience, and yet she always has a strong emphasis on faith in God that brings them through their trials. If you enjoy clean Amish fiction, you’ll love this book.
This is a book that I would not hesitate to let a junior high/senior high girl read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Amish Celebrations is a collection of four novellas by Beth Wiseman. These novellas include:
The Gift of Sisters - a story of Hannah and Elizabeth and of heartache
A New Beginning - a story of Rebecca and Noah and of betrayal and forgiveness
A Perfect Plan - a story of Priscilla and Chester
A Christmas Miracle - a story of Mary and my favorite of the book
I enjoyed all four of these stories. I give Amish Celebrations four stars.
Collection of four short stories about the lives the Amish have.
Bruce doing community service for a week playing Santa, noticing an Amish child in line, which was odd. Telling him, her English friends, say he grants wishes. Was a favorite of mine, a tender, sweet story. The decisions from being sixteen, to decisions of marriage, their traditions, with some a mix of English ways. They were all heart warming, different and interesting. The love of family and strong belief in God, was once a again, strongly told in Beth’s stories. Can read separately, and readers will definitely enjoy.
Given an ARC by Net Galley and Zondervan for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Amish Celebrations by Beth Wiseman includes 4 stand-alone Amish novellas. From 16-year-olds celebrating their birthdays and entering the world of dating to a married couple learning to navigate marriage and family while keeping romance alive, Beth Wiseman weaves stories and romance together. Although the novellas are obviously quick reads, Wiseman quickly pulls you into the characters' worlds and the reader becomes emotionally involved from page one. Great reads!
This is a book of four novellas of celebrations of love, new beginnings, and miracles.
The Gift of Sisters find twins, Hannah and Elizabeth, both attracted to the same young man. They have opposite personalities and both strive for his attention. Which one will attract him? Will this attraction tear them apart?
A New Beginning finds Pricilla King and Chester Lapp making wedding plans, but as they plan, various things fall apart. They begin to doubt God’s plan for them to be together. Will they be able to overcome the challenges, or will they go their separate ways?
A Christmas Miracle – young Amish mother of 5 children and another on the way isn’t sure how she will be able to handle another child. She is overwhelmed, and has little organizational skills. While shopping, her daughter meets Santa and a Mrs. Elf. She tells them her mother needs help for Christmas. Will the mismatched Amish and English acquaintances learn new meaning to the Christmas season of giving, love and family?
This was a very good book that I highly recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I love clean Amish fiction and Beth Wiseman is one of my favorite authors. After this book, she still is This book is a collection of short stories and I must say I both love and hate this concept. I love the fact when I have a short time to sit and read, this sort of book is perfect. I can finish one story in a sittin. Here comes the other side of coin. I so wish the stories were longer, the characters have more to say and I am perfectly willing to hear every word. If you purchase this book, you will not be dissapointed. I was given a digital arc of this book by netgalley and the published. The opinions are my own.
Amish Celebrations by Beth Wiseman is a collection of three short stories based around celebration events in the Amish community. Each one has a unique message and storyline. Beth did not disappoint with this novella collection. Each story had characters that were easy to love and a great path of faith and love.
In A Christmas Miracle, Gabriel and Mary are upset when their eldest daughter sneaks off to see an English Santa at the mall asking him to help her mom. They are even more embarrassed when the Santa sends a check to their door. Mary struggles to keep house and take care of five children while wondering how the other moms make it look so easy and resenting the fact that her mother-in-law does not seem to what to lend a hand to help. This story was very touching, and present many topics that face all families in today’s society. I really enjoyed Gabriel and Mary’s journey to learn to lean on God whomever he may send to help.
In The Gift of Sisters, we meet Hannah and Rachel, twin sisters who are about to turn sixteen and enter into rumschpringe. When Rachel falls for newcomer, Abraham, her sister knows but is quick to say yes when he asks her for a date. The sisters have vowed to never let a boy come between them, but when Abraham arrived, that vow flew out the window. Wiseman did a good job writing about teenage struggles and temptations.
In A New Beginning, we follow Rebecca and Noah as they plan their wedding and the start of a new life together. When Noah’s English friend invites him to an English party, he decides to go along. When Noah meets McKenna, he is quickly infatuated at the lovely young English woman as she is so easy to talk with. He immediately breaks off his engagement with Rebecca and tries to pursue McKenna who doesn’t return his affections which leaves him unsure and not knowing where life will take him. When Rebecca’s older brother, sees Noah with McKenna, he is heartbroken because he has fallen for her as well. This is a story of love, faith in God, and communication.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from netgalley.com and Zondervan in return for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In this collection of short stories by Beth Wiseman, readers will find themselves laughing and crying in equal measure. The three stories are each fantastic and each has a special message for readers. I truly enjoyed them. Once I started reading, it was hard to put the book down!
In the first story, A Christmas Miracle, Mary and Gabriel are embarrassed when their oldest daughter goes to an English Santa and asks him for help for her mom, who is struggling to raise five children while her husband works. Mary doesn’t understand why it is so hard for her, when other moms make it look so easy. Santa and his elf decide to do something to help the family, not realizing that their own lives will be changed for the better also! I think this was my favorite of the three stories. I don’t have five children, but I could relate to Mary’s struggle to get through everything that needed to be done in one day.
The second story is The Gift of Sisters. Rachel and Hannah are twins that are entering their rumschpringe, or the time of running around for Amish youth. When newcomer Abraham arrives in town, both girls fall for him. Hannah catches him and Rachel becomes bitter and angry with her sister, who she believes is only going after him so Rachel can’t have him. But Abraham is not all that he seems and Hannah only wants to protect her sister. Will the two twins work things out before they have their sixteenth birthday party? Or will they continue to fight and hurt each other. This story was really sweet. I thought Wiseman did a good job of capturing the angst of youth and the emotions that go along with it.
The last story was A New Beginning. We meet Noah and Rebecca and some other new friends. When Noah decides to take in an English party before his and Rebecca’s baptism, he doesn’t expect anything to happen. However, when he meets McKenna, he finds himself slightly infatuated. He breaks his engagement to Rebecca. Obviously, she is heartbroken. When Noah discovers that McKenna doesn’t return his feelings, he is unsure and confused. Add a little chaos to the mix when we discover that McKenna is actually seeing Rebecca’s older brother. This story is poignant and sweet and will leave you smiling at the end.
I really enjoyed this book and am grateful to NetGalley for the opportunity to read it. All of the opinions in it are expressly my own. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Amish fiction.
LOVED the book. It was a book of 3 short stories. I loved every story, and I wanted each of them to continue! I wanted to know what happened next! Each of the three stories could easily be 3 separate books, with the story extended, of course. I loved this book also because it's not everyday you see decent, clean, wholesome stories about love and life. I would definitely love to read more from this Author. :)
I received this as an advanced reader copy from NetGalley for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful book that included 4 stories in one. The characters and their stories were easy to relate too and very hard to stop reading to get things done. Any lover of Christian / Amish fiction is bound to love this book as well. I highly recommend for a good clean read that keeps pages turning. #netgalley #booknerd I will definitely be pursuing more books by this author.
Amish Celebrations is at its' heart, a story collection that celebrates the beauty of family, with all the ties, happiness, closeness and quirks embodied by family relationships. Each of the novellas within reflect the constant struggle the Amish have in maintaining their way of life against the pressures from the outside/"English" world to conform. Wiseman skillfully weaves four beautiful stories of family love. One interesting aspect was in Rebecca and Noah's story, when Penny needed medical care in an emergency and was rushed to the Stoltzfus clinic, which is a clinic that was established in Wiseman's Daughters' of the Promise series. I always find it enjoyable when an author ties in aspects of previous series into new books. And in the story about Mary and Gabriel and their children, a lesson is woven into the story when Mary and Gabriel, who believe his parents don't want to help Mary with their children, learn that there is a deeper reason that his parents don't feel able to provide support. Once this secret is shared, a new closeness arises. Each of the four stories within Amish Celebrations are beautifully told and will gift readers with hours of reading pleasure!
