This sneak Peek of Undead Girl gang has mad me want to read the whole book . All I can say is it is a must read.
This sneak peek was good! The book sounds awesome !
I'm already curious to know more ! Wicca, mystery, a little of Veronica Mars and handsome crush, yep sign me in !
I really loved this sneak peek and now I'm very excited to read the full book! I love the Wiccan aspect, I love the friendship and the way Mila experiences the grief and how she's trying to work through it.
Oh my gosh, I am soooo excited to read this book in its entirety!!
I really loved what I read so far, a sarcastic, bigger, feminist protagonist who also practices pagan spells?? Sign me up!
The way that which the author writes is phenomenal and interesting, the voice of the narration is witty and severely relatable. This is one of the most interesting ways I've read a novel address the topic of grief, this is certainly a different take on the trope.
There wasn't really much that I can say about it, because I only got to read four chapters, but after just a few chapters, I'm seriously hooked, and super excited to read this book whenever I can get my hands on it!!
The beginning chapters were interesting enough I would like to read more but the magic was still in the "is this real or not" phase of the book.
I completed reading few chapters of this book. And I can't wait to buy the book. The book follows story of Mila who has recently lost her best friend Riley. The police say that Riley dead happened due to suicide. Mila doesn't believe it because she knows that Riley never would kill herself. No one believes Mila when she trys to tell everyone it is a murder. Riley and Mila are Wix. I don't much about Wicca, but because of this book I want to read about it.
Mila is trying to resurrect Riley. With the help of old grimoire Riley which she had bought online before she died. Only reading few chapters makes me want to buy the whole book. The portrayal of grief is true for many people. Sometimes we want to bring back the people who have died even if it is impossible. There were few books were have read this. So it was good change. For me the book is like YA with magic. And everyone loves a story with magic. So if you are interested in this type of book , go buy it and read. It is a very good read. I will post one more review after I am done reading the book on my blog. So keep a lookout for it. I hope you enjoy reading it.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me a sneak peek of UNDEAD GIRL GANG! I've been excited for this book since I read about the deal in Publishers Weekly.
First things first, anything girl-centered is right up my alley. Love girl-focused book. Love a book about a fat WOC (in this case Latina) who loves herself and won't be told she isn't worthwhile. Great story there.
The most important thing to remember here that I only got a sneak peek of the book, so my thoughts aren't based on the entire book only the first few chapters I was permitted to read.
I liked it, but I didn't love it. Mila's voice felt combative and acerbic in a way that doesn't really engage in the first few chapters of the book--this eased toward the end of the sneak peek. The book positioning pretty much every single adult as an antagonist made Mila seem juvenile rather than merely misunderstood. This is frustrating because it likewise cuts her off from resources she might have had at her disposal had she listened when sound advice was given. (I know I'm reading a YA novel and teens can do illogical things; this is just an impression.)
The crush was cliche in a way I couldn't appreciate. Stereotypical right down to being the only person who could understand our main character. The story is itself so unusual that I was disappointed not to see a more unique take on an unrequited crush.
All that said, I did enjoy seeing a fat Latina take center stage in UNDEAD GIRL GANG. We don't get to see that often in YA; it was refreshing.. Mila is a unique voice that makes no apologies and pulls no punches. Though the girl gang is not included into the sneak peek, I can't wait to meet all these young ladies in the full book and see them write their own epitaphs firsthand.
I was SO pleasantly surprised by this book. The dialogue had me smiling immediately and the main character was a delight! It felt like I was actually there and interacting with a sassy teenager and I kept LOLing at her thoughts.
I fell in love from chapter one with the characters, the writing, and the story line. From what I read, which I estimate to be about the first 100 pages, I would rate this easily 4 stars!
This book was released yesterday and I will 100% be getting this story to finish haha I GOTS TO KNOW! :D
~ I would recommend this to anyone looking for an upbeat YA read with lots of sassy humor. <3
From this excerpt I find the writing engaging. The dawning description of the world happening is very explicit. I already love it. And the protagonist, Camila Flores, YES YES! I like her already. I have to get me a copy of this book!
Mila’s best friend is dead. The police say it was a suicide but she doesn’t believe it. Oh also, Mila is a witch. And she may or may not find a spell to bring back her friend...and 2 other girls who everyone also thought killed themselves to help find a killer. Can’t wait to read the rest!!
I know that books about zombies and the undead are not supposed to be funny but this book made me laugh out loud. When Mia's friends end up dead and she accidentally brings them back to life, it's like one laugh after another as they hunt down who has been going around killing people. Great story!
Based on this excerpt, I was not particularly enthralled with this book. Everything in the synopsis appealed to me, yet I found the character's voice grating, and some of the writing contrived. It's hard to rate a book when it was only an excerpt, as maybe there was no chance for the character to grow on me, or for the supernatural elements to gain much momentum. As is, it reads like a tumblr post that goes on a bit too long.
I loved this snippet of Undead Girl Gang. I'd heard a few people talking about this book so jumped at the chance to read the generous preview. I'm going to have to rush out and purchase my own copy now!
The preview was really great. I love the buildup to the story and how entertaining it is. The story has you engaged and wondering what is going to happen.
❝ The problem with your best friend dying is that there’s no one to sit with you at funerals. It’s not the number one problem. Obviously, my best friend’s bloated, waterlogged corpse being lowered into the earth for the rest of eternity is currently at the top of my list of Emotionally Debilitating Things That Will Take the Rest of My Life to Recover From. But sharing my pew with strangers while Ms. Chu, the principal of Fairmont Academy, drones on and on definitely ranks high on the list of reasons why my friend being murdered is the pits. ❞
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a sample of this book! All opinions are my own!
This mini-review is only for a sample/preview of this book (the first couple of chapters) but it made such an impression on me that I went out and preordered the Undead Girl Gang before I was halfway done with the sample! I mean, just read the first sentence and tell me that doesn’t hook you. Try.
Mila refuses to accept that her best friend killed herself, and so she sets out to get revenge and stop the killer. It’s her voice that really pulled me into the story. It’s snarky, funny, and heartbreaking all at once. Her biting remarks and sarcastic way of dealing with people around her can seem abrasive but it’s charming too because there’s just so much personality on the page.
From reading the synopsis I know that Mila is going to succeed at resurrecting the girls with the spellbook she found so I’m excited for that but more than anything I’m excited to meet these three other characters. Undead Girl Gang is full of so much promise that I can’t help but wish it was tomorrow already so I could have the full book in my hands. I look forward to reading and getting a full review up soon, but until then I hope you guys will go check out this great book out for yourselves! ❤
Undead Girl Gang will be out on May 8th! Go check it out!
Undead Girl Gang was released this month and is a fun take on the paranormal. I read the first few chapters as a sample review copy, and the writing is fun.
I received a sneak-peak of UNDEAD GIRL GANG on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.
Five stars and here's why:
The sneak peak had me hooked. It’s like Heathers with a Pushing Daisies twist. Brilliant. There’s a lot of buzz about this book and I found the excerpt sassy, hilarious, and relatable. The author rocks Mila. My only complaint is that I didn’t receive a copy of the entire book!
If you like zombie stories with a sassy, feminist twist, this book is for you. Highly recommend.
I was given a sampler to read and review in exchange for my honest thoughts. I was intrigued by the comparison to Veronica Mars but sadly I did not see the likeness. It seemed like the first few chapters had a lot of filler content that really took away from the story and I found it easy to get distracted from. I will not be purchasing the completed book to finish.
From the very first sentence of "Undead Girl Gang", the narrator's voice shines with uniqueness. Its unusual to snort-laugh when someone's telling you their best friend died, but this book made me do it. Mila is the snarky fat witch protagonist I've always dreamt of, and her determination to solve her BFF's murder is the driving force behind the opening of this book. I love the casual tone in which she lays out her life with Riley, and I recognise a lot of her semi-Wiccan experience - that feeling of doubt and disbelief and still being drawn to something, anything that gives you power is a real insight into the mind of teenage 'weird' girls. Awesome writing, and even though I knew this was only a sneak peak, when I got to the final page, I almost gasped in horror that I couldn't continue. I'll be picking this up as soon as it comes out, because man, this is the book my little fat Wiccan heart has been dying for!
I LOVED this sneak peek of Undead Girl Gang! I cannot wait to get my hands on the full book in just a few days!
Lily Anderson seamlessly tapped into every outcast and loner 15-16 year old girl's brain and took the best parts of her and molded her into Mila Flores. Equal parts gritty and humorous, Mila is the teenage heroine we've all been looking for.
This is a perfect book for fans of Veronica Mars, Hocus Pocus, Zoraida Cordova's Labyrinth Lost, Harry Potter, Charmed, and The Craft. Read this book and revive the witchy teenage girl that you left behind in High School.!
