I love mysteries and thrillers involving disappearances. As a mom, I couldn't imagine my child going missing. This was an intriguing read and the conclusion was great. I liked the authors style and would read more from the.
I am a sucker for a child abduction story. This one has so many elements. Loss and personal discovery. Amazing read!
I couldnt put this down. Very emotional, it did get a bit slow in areas but then it picked up. Loved the characters and the story. Every parents nightmare !!
I enjoyed this book, tho at times found the main character to be a bit over the top, tho I guess it goes to show mothers love has no limits. I thought this book had an really interesting story line and while I didn't necessarily like the main character, I understood why she went to the lengths she did. This books had several plot twists, enough to keep me reading right to the end.
While the premise of the story was good, the actual telling was not that appealing. I cannot begin to imagine having my child abducted and Maddy's distress is understanding. Her unwillingness to give up as year-after-year there is no resolution is admirable. But...
This book felt too stilted. The words did not flow smoothly. I literally felt like I was riding in a car on a bumpy road, being jerked from side to side as I tried to take in the story. I do think the author has great potential and would read another book by her to see if the writing style is more appealing.
Thank you to NetGalley and She Writes Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
When it comes to your children, everything has the potential to become your worst nightmare. Like most parents, Maddy Stewart kept those fears locked away until the day Vinni, her eight-year-old daughter, went missing. In her debut novel, "A Matter of Chance", Julie Maloney deftly weaves loss, love, terror, and hope together in a story that will keep the reader turning pages. Heartbreaking and heartwarming.
This book was amazing!!! Julie did such a great job in keeping me turning the pages. It was sometimes so hard to read -- it's our worst fear as a mother. But, she made me care about these characters so much, I couldn't put it down.
was a gripping thriller that took you to every aspect of trying to figure out what was really going on and what was going to happen next! This was such an amazing book and I can’t wait to see what else is released from this author!
I absolutely loved this book. Maddy Stewart, a single mother of 8 yr. old Vinni, They are on vacation when Vinni is abducted. The story is told over a 5 year period as Maddy searches for her missing daughter.
The story was heart-wrenching but held my interest. I had to keep reading to find out what had happened to Vinni.
This story about a mother who refuses to give up hope when it comes to her missing daughter tugs at the heart strings. Beautiful writing, and well researched; it would be a great book club read.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. A part of it got kind of slow for me but not to the point of wanting to stop by any means. I loved the way Maddie and Vinnie connected. A true child/parent connection. If your child disappears you will move heaven and earth to find it. This book kept me turning pages into the night.
Thank you to NetGalley and She Writes Press for the honor of reading this for my honest opinion.. A 5 star read.
Written in five parts each part being a year for that Vinnie a little girl is missing. BUT Had the kidnapping of Vinni actually been planned? Maddy the mom was helping two others and ran to the house to get her cell when she came back to see her missing daughter. How would you act what would you do if this was your 8 year old? Great book must read.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an advanced digital copy of this novel for review. This is a complex story following a mother's journey through grief after her 8 year-old daughter is kidnapped while on vacation. The thing that struck me most about this novel is that it gets grief right...the irrationality, the ugliness, the hills and the valleys, and the guilt for happiness, even many years later. Although I found it difficult to really connect with most of the characters, this still worked for me, as "grief" as a character was on point. This is a quiet book, and even a bit slow, but overall a very satisfying read.
Enjoyable read. This one kept me intrigued until the end.
When Madeline Stewart’s daughter is kidnapped, she refuses to believe she’s never coming back. Everyday Maddy wakes up with a goal, find the woman who took her child and bring her baby home. While doing so she uncovers a crime being committed in her neighborhood, falls in love and never loses hope of being reunited with her daughter.
There is nothing more unconditional than a mother's love. This story story has it all............ love, mystery, and suspense. I truly loved it! Congrats to Julie Maloney on your debut.
I didn't expect to like this very much since the premise is a bit... out there? But I definitely enjoyed it! I felt the struggle of the mom trying to choose between her own daughter and another girl.
This novel kept me reading so that I finished it in one day. I didn't want to put it down because the character was so compelling. She lost her daughter when she left her briefly to call 911 when a man died on the beach. What makes the book compelling is that the character's despair and hope alternate throughout the five years the book covers. Any mother can understand the pain of losing a child. Set at the New Jersey shore and New York City, the author creates a sense of place that adds to the immediacy. There are lots of plot twists, some not so believeable, but overall a satisfying read. I wish there had been less coincidence, but the character was believable.
Maddie and her 8-year-old daughter are vacationing on the Jersey Shore. Vinni goes missing and this begins the harrowing journey of finding Vinni. From the streets of NYC, the Jersey Shore, and Europe. This twisted thriller-mystery- drama captured my attention quickly. I did not want to put it down. I felt captivated by the intertwining of Maddie, and Vinni's father who is estranged from Maddie. The FBI agent who takes on several roles of helping, but also protecting Maddie emotionally and physically. I loved that I had no idea how it was going to play out and that for me makes a winning novel. The intimacy of the story was heart-wrenching at times and beautiful when it all comes together. This is a FABULOUS debut from author Julie Maloney and I foresee my fandom becoming greater! I look forward to her next works and I highly recommend this book to lovers of any type of women's fiction. You will feel all the feels, believe me! Just gorgeous. Thank you to Julie Maloney for this unique and emotional novel. 5 stars.
Well-paced story about a mother's worst nightmare. I was riveted from the start, and the ending satisfied my yearning for twisty mysteries! Love the family dynamic and the Mother's strength to continue her fight.
One of my favorite books this summer! I just wanted to shut the world out and read A Matter of Chance in one day. The characters were real and the emotions were raw. I was captivated with these characters from beginning to end. Julie Maloney hit it out of the park with this book.
