Marvin, a moose, and Woody, a beaver are best friends. When Marvin rescues a forest animal in danger, he is quickly catapulted into celebrity status, unintentionally leaving Woody behind. Unfortunately, Woody is willing to go to extreme measures to get attention, but he goes about it the wrong way and learns an important lesson.
I really wanted to like this book. Marvin the Moose becomes Awesome the hero after saving some friends. He becomes so popular that he does not have time for his friend Woody the beaver. Woody is tired of not getting any attention, so he does mischievous things to get people to notice him. Everything works out in the end, but there are no consequences. Woody gets a chance to rescue someone and is in the attention ring again. As a book to be read to children, the story skipping consequences and making everything right in the end is not a lesson we need to be teaching to children. They get enough of that already. If it wasn’t for that, i would have loved this book.
This is an Awesome book!
My five year old son loved it, the illustrations are 'really cool' and a bit more grown up than your usual woodland creatures. In fact, the whole book is a step-up from the usual children's books that we read, and that made a welcome change. The story has some really great moral points to it, and it prompted some good discussion with my son about jealousy, feeling important and what being a hero really means. It's a good antidote to the standard superhero messages in film and TV.
I would definitely read through this with my son again, and purchase it when it is released.
I got this book as a gift for my friend's 4 year old. He like it a lot :) It's a fun story about friendship. Characters are nice.
Overall, cute book.
I enjoyed this book. I think it will teach children an important lesson and will be a story that will lead to a good discussion. I think Woody being really mean was a little much (just with his actions), but I think children would enjoy reading it and discussing why Woody was wrong. The end was good with them becoming friends again and the moose helping to save the day once again.
This was cute and I liked the friendship between Woody and Marvin.
I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Nice story of a friendship / feeling valued & lonely. My 4 year old liked it!
Drawings could have been a bit better but still works with the concept.
