My Big Greek Summer by Sue Roberts
Sue Roberts does such an amazing job of describing scenery. Greece came alive for me while reading My Big Greek Summer, and I loved it! I've always wanted to visit Greece. Those scenic descriptions were my favorite part of the book, but I also really loved the friendships. There's some heavier issues I wasn't expecting based on the cover and synopsis, but the entire story wrapped up in a way that I was happy I read it. I'm keeping my eye on Sue Roberts!
I was a little surprised, seeing the title, that so much of the book's action happened outside of Greece, and I did find the ending a little rushed. But overall Sue Roberts' My Big Greek Summer comes off as a lovely, enjoyable, easy summer read.
A very easy read, perfect for reading in the garden whilst waiting for the warmer weather.
Likeable characters, a bit cheesy, but that's ok. I would recommend it if you're looking for a light read.
I'm 71% through this book and I'm afraid to say I can't finish it. I've skim read the majority of it. I enjoyed the beginning and when she was in Greece but after that I was bored. I don't normally not finish a book but I can't finish this one.
Thank you for accepting my request for an honest review.
I read this book when I was on holiday in April and I loved it- it is the perfect holiday read and I was lucky enough to be able to read it when we were having gorgeous weather at the seaside - bliss!
It is such an easy read and the story is really enjoyable. I loved the characters and the writing style really brought the setting to life for me, it is a great, feel good story and one I have already recommended to family and friends!
4.5 stars from me rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon!
This is an easy holiday read with short chapters, relatable characters, and a feel-good theme. When Mandy finds that her husband has been unfaithful she travels to Greece alone, to a place that holds happy memories.I liked how she refused to feel sorry for herself but instead threw herself into the local community and set out to help others. Atmospheric, quick , romance just a little predictable.
Easy reading with no big surprises. Love a holiday read just as spring is coming. Well written and relatable charecters.

Thank you Netgalley for the free ebook!
With the snow falling where I am, I was in the mood for a sunny, summer romance. The setting for this book was so enticing. I love stories set in Greece! I really was intrigued by the story line- girl has a bad breakup, and falls in love on a wild vacation, it is a great start to a cheesy romance.
This was a little hard for me to get into. I really did not get invested in Mandy's relationship, it was really over before the book started. Unfortunately I really did not connect with Mandy as a character either. You could clearly see where the story was going from the beginning, which is completely fine, but, I just could not connect with it. I just did not love the development of the Mandy or the story line. It all fell a little flat for me.
Mandy thought her life was perfect. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Danny, and living in a cute little home close to the pub where she works. Then it all falls apart. Danny has a fling and they separate. She takes a trip to a Greek island that she visited as a child and tries to put her life back together. While there, she sees that this area is struggling and comes up with an idea to help breathe some life back into this beautiful island. When she comes home, she has to decide what to do with herself. Does she give Danny a chance again? Does she pursue the flame of attraction she felt with a Greek islander?
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I picked this one out thinking it would be a quick, fluffy, chick lit read. It was quick and definitely chick lit, but there was a lot of substance in this one. I did enjoy how she dealt with her marriage and how she does try to make it work. I thought the way it ended was perfect and I'm definitely picking up more books by this author. Four out of five stars for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this modern fiction story. When Mandy's marriage comes to an end she decides to holiday in Greece. Going to the area where she has happy memories of. She finds the village run down and neglected. Shop's and businesses have shutdown. There are very few tourists and the apartment Mandy is staying in needs some care. Nonetheless Mandy has a wonderful holiday and comes up with some ideas to make the village some money! Can she also find love?
This is the perfect summer read and although I read it from the comfort of my garden, I could feel myself transported to Greece. This is a reminder that life doesn't always go to plan and not everyone should be given a second chance! It was wonderful to see the characters develop and show what they are capable of. A light-hearted beach read with a greek soul.
A nice easy read - no real surprises in it, but enjoyed it sitting in the garden dreaming of a summer holiday. Not read any other books by this author but will look out for some
Great summer beach read! Husband cheats, wife moves on, life continues...on to a Greek Island. And, we are off to a great adventure with Mandy! Lots of laughable moments in this funny light-hearted read!
Mandy's husband is unfaithful so she leaves her job, her friends and her home to holiday alone in Greece. She goes back to where she was happy as a girl. She makes friends with the locals and with a throwaway remark to one of them she decides to do an outdoor concert to help the village get some money through the recession. I loved Mandy's character. she is strong, kind and doesn't sit around feeling sorry for herself. Her best friend is someone you would want on your side. I just loved the whole story, the short chapters and the relaxed style of writing. A real summer read
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Good summer read whilst on the beach or by the pool with a nice cool drink. Would recommend.
When Mandy finds out her husband has had a fling, she decides to go to Greece, a place she remembers visiting in her childhood. Her friend Hayley also joins Mandy in Greece and they have a lot of fun together. Mandy really likes the local village and the people, therefore she decides to help the owner of the hotel and comes up with an idea to arrange a concert to bring more people to the village. After the vacation in Greece, she needs to go back home to, but her heart is in Greece and she decides to go back for the concert and the charming owner of the hotel.
It’s a great summery book to read, the Greece atmosphere is almost tangible. It’s a wonderful book that makes you want to visit Greece.
Anything Greek in the title with a beautiful cover - I am in
Anything by Sue Roberts - I am in
I loved the way author has described Greece in the book, it made me feel I am right there with the characters of this book.
A cheating husband causes Mandy to flee to Greece. And as in every room-Com, she meets a handsome man but all her other relationships also blossom. She has friends, bonds and new people in her life. And it was fun to see her finding her way back to life and mending her broken heart.
A warm read to escape reality and jump into Greece
Mandy is a 29-year old married waitress, still residing in her hometown of Liverpool in England. Life is comfy, cozy and uneventful as she and her husband monotonously float through their lives together, until WHAM! *gasp* He cheats on her because it's just all so boring (how original). In an attempt to clear her mind and assert her female independence, Mandy books herself a 10 day escape to a coastal town in Greece, of which she remembers from her childhood. During her stay, there's a whoooole lotta drinkin' and stuffing her face, of which is described in great detail. Oh, and an attempt to help salvage the quaint village from imploding because of it's dated decor and lackluster advertising. So how does Mandy plan on doing this? By teaming up with a girl she bullied in high school, who just happens to be a successful agent now, whom she bumped into while waitressing at The Pig and Whistle, and organizing the biggest music festival event Greece has ever seen. Serendipitous, to be sure. Will she/won't she succeed? Will she/won't she forgive her husband? Will she/won't she stay in Greece forever and find a Greek god lover? If you've ever watched a rom-com in your life, you already know all of these answers.
Frankly, I started off being intrigued and then the book just went on, and on, and on for way...too...long. If I read one more sentence with rum and coke, prosecco, or anything to do with Indian takeout. What is it with British chick-lit authors and their need to go into long-winded descriptions of the foods their character's indulge in? I get that this isn't a novel going for a Pultizer Prize, but even as a no-brainer, shut-out-the-world, no-thinking-necessary book, it just wasn't juicy enough for me. Mandy was a bit of an alcoholic prude (is that even possible?) She just didn't have any fire or passion in her, and in these kinds of books, I look for the female protagonist to be daring and brave in her self-discovery. I ended up skimming the last 25% of the book because I couldn't take it anymore. 1 1/2 stars. Whomp.
I cute summer read! I enjoyed the writing style and how quickly I got through the novel. I would recommend this book.
Mandy has been married to her childhood sweetheart for years and so is devastated when she discovers that he has been cheating on her and throws him out. Needing to get away she books to go to Thakos the Greek village that she visited as a child with her parents and sets about rediscovering herself!
I loved the Greek part of the book and the way that Mandy feels that she has to rediscover herself - breaking up with someone that you have been with for so long and from such a young age can mean the you lose your own identity - my only criticism was that the ending was too rushed
