Cassie is on the run from an abusive ex-husband and ends up in Petal, Georgia where she meets Shane Chase, the town cop. Shane likes women and has most of the women in town after him. When he meets Cassie, he knows she’s keeping secrets but he can’t help falling for her.

I really liked the premise of this book but it just kinda fell a little short for me. I found it a little boring ... everything was so predictable and I just couldn’t connect with the characters. The writing was okay ... it just wasn’t for me. But lots of people loved it ... everybody has different taste.

I received an ARC courtesy of Harlequin - Carina Press through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

I liked the story, but I didn't love this one. I would give it 3 1/2 stars. I really like the small little town of Petal that Ms Dane has created and some fun characters too, however, Shane and Cassie are just not my favorite H/h. This is a sweet easy love story, well not always so easy, Cassie had it very rough prior to moving to Petal.
It was a fast easy read for me.

I didn't realize at first that this is a rerelease so this was a reread for me that I received from Netgalley.

Cassie is hiding out after she was beaten nearly to death by her ex-husband…who just happened to escape from custody and never was charged.

Chase is a man who stands away from commitment because his ex left him.

There is strong chemistry in a small town setting and family relations.

Entertaining, flirty and fun but still manages deep subject matter creating lots of emotional scarring and room for amazing character growth.

I received this ARC copy of Taking Chase from HARLEQUIN - Carina Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Taking Chase is set for publication May 7, 2018.

I enjoyed this book and feel the writing is better than the first. It was definitely more serious. I liked Shane's and Cassie's characters. Two very stubborn people with chemistry off the charts. I loved that Shane was patient . He’s not perfect and actually comes off as previously a bit of a player but once he sets his sights on Cassie honestly there’s no other woman for him

This story was missing chemistry and characters with that "like" factor. I just didn't care about some of the characters, and others I did like were wearying after a while. I wanted to like it but just didn't.

I love this series, I loved it back in 2010 and I still love it now, almost ten years later I love that this whole series is getting re vamped. They are the original BOOM story that some new authors are writing now ya know like Aurora Rose and Harper Sloan... ect

This one is about Shane and Cassie, and from the first page i couldn't out it down again with the re read.

Shane has fallen hard for Cassie, And Cassie she has had alot a crap to deal with, like a Crazy ex who want to kill her!

It seems to me that the Chase brothers are not the luckiest guys to have around. anyway I liked this store enough, even if I hated Chase when I met him in the previous book. I don't know if I like all this drama in my love stories anyway. I will check which brother is involved with whom in the next book and then decide.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

This was a good romance with lots of strengths---I loved Cassie. She was a great heroine who is determined to stand up for herself despite a traumatic past. I loved that the author shows how much work and struggle is involved in overcoming domestic abuse. Cassie has a therapist, there's moments of backsliding, and the romance takes months to develop. This isn't an insta-love plot, which never would have seemed believable.

I didn't like Shane too much. For a sheriff, he was almost comically unable to see the signs that Cassie was running from an abuser, not some sort of illegal that blew into town. The fact that he continually thought the worse of her for like the first half of the book, even more, was a real struggle for me. However, it's clear that this is a real journey for him. He is changing and growing, and that was a real struggle for him. And, you know, that's what reading romance is about: watching characters screw it all up and decide they want to be better because of the person they love. So even though I had my moments of wanting to punch him, this book did take me on a real emotional journey.

3.5 Stars: Taking Chase is book 2 in the Chase Brothers series and is Shane's story. I liked this easy to read story. The characters were great however something didn’t click with their love story. In saying that the overall story was good and the character amazing so I would recommend you give this book and series a go.

Previously published; newly refreshed by author

The Chase boys. Ridiculously hot and notoriously single.

Sheriff Shane Chase is drawn to the new girl in town from the moment he lays eyes on her. Not only is she gorgeous, but years on the job have taught him to know when someone is hiding something. And Cassie Gambol is hiding something big. He’s willing to take it slow to find out her secrets, no matter how much he burns to make her his.

Cassie Gambol needs a fresh start, and she gets it by reinventing herself in the small town of Petal, Georgia—a far cry from her life as a surgeon back in LA. A new romance is the last thing on Cassie’s mind, but the impossibly hot town sheriff has her reconsidering her priorities.

But when Cassie and Shane come face-to-face with the reason Cassie’s on the run, only her determination and his instincts can keep her safe from the past—and keep their future from ending before it can even begin.

My Thoughts

Returning to the fictional small town of Petal Georgia was a treat. The Chase family is not only made up of the four sexy brothers but a mother whose antics keep her husband and sons on their toes 24/7.

This time around eldest son Sheriff Shane Chase is given the chance at his HEA. The recipient of his affections is newcomer to Petal Cassie Gambol. A beautiful woman with secrets hiding in her eyes that poor Shane falls for fast and hard.

Cassie not only finds herself reciprocating the interest of the handsome Sheriff but for the first time in years also able to make friends in a town she never expected to grow fond enough of to call home.

Of course this pairing did not come without reservations on both sides since Cassie and Shane have baggage from previous relationships that cause them both to be wary of the other.

This re-released edition of the book went by too fast. For me it was so easy to read and also such a nice trip back to the small town of Petal Georgia that Cassie and Shanes story was over before I was ready for it to be.

There are multiple hot-button topics at the heart of this story, some readers may find them too much and there will be others who find them perhaps offensive. You have been warned, just remember there is so much in this story that is positive it deserves a chance to be read. It also shows that mental fortitude sometimes overcomes the lack of physical strength and healing takes time for all of us.

Since I hadn't read anything of the Chase Boys, I didn't know if this would be a problem. But no, you can read the Chase brothers adventures quite stand alone. This story is about Sheriff Shane Chase. When his mother rams the new girl in town with her truck, he is intrigued by the shy and easily scared girl. All his sensors go into high alert, because he is certain that Cassie Gambol is hiding something.

And as the sheriff of the small town Petal, he is determined to find out if the new girl will be causing trouble or not. How gorgeous she might be, he will be keeping an eye on her, to make sure nothing will be interfering with the peace and quiet in down-town Georgia.

Cassie has been on the run since the event that changed her life for good. In Petal, she hopes to have a fresh start, without men interfering in her life. But why can't she get the sexy as sin sheriff out of her mind? And will she be safe in Petal?

When Cassie's past is catching up on her, will Sheriff Shane be able to help her? Or will she succumb to the past? Found out for yourself in this thrilling read with all kinds of twists and turns. Gripping and sensational. Four out of five stars from me with a special thank you Netgalley for providing the arc.

I love this series. The small town vibe is awesome, and the characters are great. This book has a lot of complex emotions. Overall, it kept my attention!

This is book 2 in the series about the Chase brothers and this is Shane's romance. I really loved his story and I loved his heroine, Cassie. She is a strong woman but she is also a victim and I loved how she fights back by getting a new life. I loved that Shane is patient and all about her from the start. I loved how the town supported her and takes her in. This is a fun and sweet romance and I can't wait for more.

Another hot Chase boy with just an amazing family. Her brother wasn't too bad either. This was better than the first one, but boy did this two have past issues that just keep rearing their ugly heads right when everything was going good. Her psycho ex, his ex, her has gotten more psycho ex...you get the picture.

I love the idea of the Chase brothers series but am sadly realizing that the author’s writing style may just not be my cup of tea.

The instalove and lack of feeling I had for the characters made the story fall flat. Too many unimportant details and clumsy dialogue didn’t help the story flow.

I may need to try some of this author’s newer books and see if her style has changed. This review will not be shared on my blog.

I love Lauren Dane´s books and I was rather excited to receive this ARC, but it though it was a good book, I kept remembering Dance Upon The Air, the first book of the Three Sister´s Island Trilogy by Nora Roberts. It was very similar, we have a woman running away from a maniac ex who will stop at nothing but murder, and a over protective sheriff as a new romantic interest. In a small town where they come to hide and found friendship and love.

I am not saying it was a bad book, not at all. It was good, and I thouroughly enjoyed, but as a huge fan of Nora´s books, and being Dance Upon the Air, one of my favorites. I guess Taking Chase would always wind up short.

I see this is an older book being republished as I requested the book on Netgalley with a pub date in 2018.

The hero is a sheriff and the heroine, Cassie, is an abused woman on the run. Started out quite well, but I am sorry to say it is not my cup of tea. I thought the characters were a bit overdone and unrealistic. It might have to do with the writing style and the way the characters communicated.

This is ofcourse only my opinion and I am sure lovers of small town stories with a bit of suspense thrown in will enjoy it.

I requested and received an ARC via Netgalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Most of the time you already know how a story will end, but it's the journey the author takes you on to get there which speaks volumes. Ms Dane did a remarkable job of creating believable characters and scenarios to keep you engaged, often keeping you guessing as to when the inevitable to happen.

I especially enjoyed that the story didn't start out with the tragedy that Carrie went through at the hands of her psychotic ex-husband...but was revealed as the story progressed..an excellent hook to keep you reading. An ingenious method to guide the reader through the very end to a HEA.

This ARC book was complimentary. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

I got this book of net galley because of the cover. Then I realized I read this book before with the old cover. The story was good. A little predicable.

Thanks for redeeming Shame! After the first book I didn't think it was possible. Cassie is a great match for him and takes his ego on every chance.
Loved this story. Second read was just as good as the first read.
