Coming Unraveled is not the kind of book I have in mind while I think of romance. I didn't like at all the way Brooks was treating Everleigh. He was playing silly games and I am not a fan of bringing other women into the game. A lot of people from the other books appear in this one and it made things a little confusing and overwhelming. I did not enjoy the book and I would not recommend it.
I just couldn't get into this story, I was kind of confused on what was going on I was honestly a bit bored and didn't really enjoy the plot or story itself. I was looking for a enemies to lovers story and this isn't what I got..
This is my first book of the series so I didn't know previous characters or relationship between Everlight and Brooks. The story plot was ok, character solid. What I didn't like was the style of writing. The present tense and the first person was so hard to read that the book was not enjoyable at all, from time to time I wanted just to skip everything and just speed read it trough. I also did not like this mental games especially from the side of Brooks and all in all the end and everything was painful to read. He wanted but didn't want to be a tv star, their long-distance relationship, she wanted but didn't want to be together, her past,.. it was all too much. They did have a lot of hot erotic scenes I just would like better than the story would have been better.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
After too many drinks Everleigh wakes up in an unfamiliar bed, with a naked body lying beside her, which just so happens to belong to her sworn enemy Brooks, and that isn't even the worst of it, she is now his wife. But no matter how much attraction is there, it's not really the start of the happily ever after either of them were looking for, Everleigh isn't good at permanent things or trusting men, so she does what she does best and pushes him away.
So he grants her wishes and walks away, but then her past comes back to haunt her, and she finds herself turning to Brooks for support. It's a constant game of cat and mouse, one minute she wants him around and the next her insecurities remind her what happens when you let someone in, and then she starts to reject him all over again... but Brooks decides what they have is worth fighting for, and starts to help her see it too.
Coming Unraveled is an enthralling enemies to lovers tale that's pack with some serious heat, loads of angst, and a underlying tenderness that warms the heart. This wonderfully crafted tale grabbed my attention from the first few pages and held on for dear life until the last, these two took me on one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride. With their constant battles, consistent sparks, and heart-wrenching baggage, it was almost more than I could handle... I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through, and praying it ended with happy tears! If you like your reads a little on the intense side and packed with serious heat, than this one will be perfect for you, but make sure you have your Kleenex near by, cause their will be a few tears too! Highly recommend!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
I was given this book in exchange for my honest review. This was my first Renee Harless book but definately won't be my last. I was afraid I might be at a disadvantage not having read the previous books in the series but the author does a great job giving you enough background that it was easy to follow. Everleigh and Brooks after too much Tequila end up married in Vegas. He has been after Everleigh since they first met and she has constantly pushed him away. So the story is the two of them trying to find their way to each other. Everleigh has a big secret in her past that not even her family knows about and it has been her reason for pushing men, Brooks included, away for years. Due to circumstances that neither could predict she is forced to deal with her past.
I fell in love with the characters and wanted them to find their way to each other so badly. They have something amazing if they can get out of their own way. This book made me laugh and almost cry. I recommend this book and will be going back to the beginning of the series to meet the rest of the family.
It was too confusing and not a standalone book. Didn't like it at all!
Everleigh woke up in a strange bed and knew she had drank tequila the night before and tequila was not her friend. Then a memory passed through her mind and she remembered being in bed with Brooks and wanting to feel alive something she been lacking for years. Everleigh was embarrassed and confused by her desire for Brooks. Brooks asked her what she remembered from the night before and she remembered a piercing and mind blowing sex. Then he handed her a marriage certificate Brooks was her husband. He then proceeded to make love to his wife. Everleigh was a pharmacist and brooks was a pediatrician. Everleighs friend and technician at work was Yamara. Tamara reminded Everleigh she could take a breaks. Tamara had come to Everleigh two weeks ago right after graduating with a Pharmacy Tech diploma. Everleigh thought how the town floozie had been all over Brooks at her sister, sister in-laws baby shower. She saw women throw themselves at Brooks a lot. She hated brooks most days as he reminded her of everything she despised- a controlling man and Everleigh will never be controlled again. Especially after the trouble from a month ago when she stood up for her sister Sidney when she and Dylan got married in Vegas. Yet it hurt Everleigh to ignore Brooks advances and she didn’t know why. Yet she did still remember the amazing sex. Everleigh really liked tamara’s confidence and carefree personality. Everleigh is talking to the representative- paul- from Pro RX robotics and they began to design the automated dispensing machine for Everleighs Pharmacy. Brooks had taken a month long vacation to spend time with his grandmother who had spent most of her elder years raising Brooks. She now had late set Alzheimer's disease. Brooks swore he wouldn’t marry until he knew the woman who was the love of his life , his other half, his soulmate. When Brooks met Everleigh something about her drew him, mesmerized him and left him a puddle at her feet. Everleigh had offered to portray Nicki- who was pregnant and couldn’t do it herself- to try to draw out the person who wanted to kill Austin - Everleighs brother- and embezzle his millions. A couple of shots of tequila and everleigh admitted her desire to have a family of her own, and to be loved, she wanted everything her siblings had found but she was to scared to bring herself to go for it. So then Brooks had made a promise to her to be there with her through thick and thin and to love her above all else and she had promised the same to him. He knew then she was meant to be his whether she knew it or not. No one knew Brooks and Everleigh had eloped on that wild trip and everleigh wasn’t about to tell any of her family. When Brooks returned from Vegas he had to leave again to go to his grandmother barely telling his bride goodbye. When he returned he sees the paperwork for an annulment . When Everleigh had gone a month not hearing from Brooks she figured he felt the marriage was a mistake. Besides Everleigh didn’t want to burden Brooks with her past. Everleigh had only ever had one boyfriend-Rich- ever and he caused her to stay away from relationships. Rich and Everleigh had a bad breakup and he was abusive and possessive and very controlling through their whole relationship he had even taken her virginity when she wasn't sure that's what she wanted. They had broke up their senior year of HS. Everleigh had never went into details of what happened to anyone and never entered into another relationship since Rich and it was seven years ago. Eventually brooks signs the annulment papers figuring that is what Everleigh really wants.
This was a quick, easy good enjoyable read. I read it in one setting. I don’t really believe in love at first sight ir knowing he/ she is the one at first sight but this made me want to oddly enough. I loved brooks and Everleigh together especially when things got really rough and painful for Everleigh. I loved how they interacted with each other even the fights and their chemistry was burning hot. I was sad when Brooks signed the paperwork. But I did loved the ending. I loved the plot and the pace. I loved Everleighs family but was not very happy when they actually believe Richs story. They should have known different. But it works out. But things did turn out for the best. I couldn’t find anything to criticize in this book HAPPILY! I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.
I was lost through some of this book. It's my own fault, though. I didn't realize that it wasn't really a stand alone. Now, I have to go back and read the others (this is not going to be an issue for me).
I really loved the way Books wouldn't let Everleigh go. He just kept fighting for her and that makes for a good story.
Brooks and Everleigh wake up married in Las Vegas and have to adjust to their new reality. Their past friction turns to passion in this latest addition to the Carson series. Overall I enjoyed the story. Although Everleigh frustrated me with her lack of communication, I was intrigued enough to see the book to conclusion. Thanks to Renee Harless for the ARC of this title via NetGalley.
This is the first book I’ve read by Renee Harliss but it definitely won’t be the last one! I LOVED this book! Everleigh and Brooks caught not just my attention but my heart! Their story will stay with you long after you close the pages. I’m going back to read the beginning of this series but you can definitely read them on their own.
I think I came into this series a bit to far in. This is the first book I’ve read and this is book five in the series. The blurb did catch me eye and I enjoy and like the book but felt a bit lost in places as I hadn’t read the other books. That being said I will be looking up the other books and catching up with this series as I said I did enjoy and like reading this book. I liked the characters and the chemistry they have between them. There is loads of romance throughout the story and it has a great storyline too. I will be keeping a look out for future and past books by this author and I would recommend this book to everyone
oks is head over heels in love with Everleigh, but there is something in her past keeping her at a distance. That is until the morning after a wild night in Vegas when she wakes up beside Brooks ... and married to him! Brooks knows that she is skiddish so he lets her keep their marriage a secret until he can change her mind about him.
Although the blurp peaked my interest and the beginning of the book was great, there was just a disconnect for me once all the other characters were introduced from previous books (which I did not read) because it said this was a standalone. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight and I think I would have like this book better had I read the other books first. Brooks seemed a little too good to be true to keep letting her push him aside soooo many times. But the sex scenes were really HOT and kept me turning the pages!
I received an ARC courtesy of the author through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
After one wild night in Vegas .Everleigh finds herself in bed with a man she can’t stand and a ring on her finger. It doesn’t help that the man in question knows all the ways to push her buttons, even with his lickable abs and chiseled chest. The life she’s built, with her secrets locked up tight, is threatened when he decides he wants more than her in his bed - he wants her heart. When I started reading I couldn't put it down I read the books. All the authors are magnifysent writers.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this books.
This is a book from series, and it took me a while to work out who was who and what was going on.
Everleigh wakes up one morning in Vegas and finds out she has married Brooks. As she tried to get an anullment, he tries to win her over.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) this is supposed to be a standalone, yes part of series, but claim stand-alone- well guess what? It totally wasn't you will be lost wondering who is what, what they heck happened. Then we have Everleigh, and her constantly pushing Brooks away, make up your mind dammit..and Brooks yeah dude get a clue.
Loved this story, everyone needs a Brooks, he was so patient and strong, he gave Everleigh the understanding that even her family didn’t. This pair together made my heart melt.
DNF at 4%.
This has to be a new first, to give up on a book after just 4%! I have no idea whether the plot is going to be good or bad, I liked the premise - two enemies get married in Vegas (who doesn't love that plot) - but the writing made it impossible for me to continue without doing physical harm to myself and others.
Firstly the book is written in the present tense "Evelyn is X, Evelyn is Y" ad nauseum. I've read YA, present tense and first person POV are an irritant but not a deal breaker. Secondly the sentence construction is convoluted and twists and turns so much that sometimes the meaning is totally lost
She learned to stay out of people's business if she didn't want hers dug into.
The author uses "in lieu of" in the wrong context when she means 'as a result of'. And there's slut shaming when the 'heroine' talks about how
Tiffany, the town trollop, had hung all over Brooks at the baby shower...
There are names and relationships thrown around with no context, presumably as a recap on the previous books in this series (there have been four? Really?) but frankly for a new reader it is just unintelligible.
This appears to be self-published, in my opinion the author needs to get a professional editor and work on sentence construction - there could be an amazing story here but the writing prevented me from reading further.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
2 stars
Here is an example of a book, that is a stand alone, but to me should have been read in order. I literally felt like the person in the corner of a party, who doesn't know the majority of the people there, trying to figure out what is going on!
Everleigh and Brooks seem to be a lovely couple, except that she keeps pushing him away and he takes it. Then he leaves for a month right after they got married... add in all the other couples and backstories and I was completely lost.
