This book was frustrating for me. I love the author and her previous books, but this one had many issues for me:

1. Darby was sickeningly sweet, even when she was trying to be angry and she got angry for the dumbest possible reasons. Her whole “I won’t date military, police, fireman” thing was frustrating and I didn’t understand it. It made sense before she got to know Trex, but even after he gave her a home and had been nothing but nice to her, THAT was what she held against him?! Ugh.

2. The whole insta-love on Trex’s part was unbelievable and not a good look on him, but whatever. Some people like this trope, so maybe it was just me.

3. By the 2nd or 3rd chapter, I was bored because nothing was happening. A whole chapter dedicated to Trex’s super secret job and we never find out what Deep Echo is????

I feel like I had to force myself to finish this book because the characters were annoying an I still really did not care about them by the end. To each his own though.

I actually started this book awhile back and I had to put it down. At first I thought maybe I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to read this but now I know it’s much more than that.

I loved Darby but then I turned into liking her. To me Trex was a jerk. The way he didn’t give her a break or even a chance to think about what she wanted or what was going on around her. Some of the situations were immature and I started to skim the book just to get through it.

The part of me that resonated with her was being in an abusive relationship. I understood the decisions she made. Being scared. Constantly looking over her shoulder. That felt real until it wasn’t. I felt like some parts were drawn out just to make the book longer.

The reason it’s getting 3 Stars is because I was invested in these characters and I did read until the end to see how things would go for them. I found myself rooting for their relationship and Darby’s unborn child. It was just the slow parts and when things became aggravating is what is keeping me from giving it 4 Stars and higher.

From here to You is the newest Jamie McGuire romance and fans of her Maddox brothers will love this! Let me start with the things that bothered me. Why you ask? Because I still loved this book regardless!

1. Darby is one of those girls that is so beautiful, everyone wants her. I'm kind of tired of this too gorgeous heroine. I am over the author constantly pointing out how pretty and desired the heroine is. Its shallow and vapid.
2. Why are characters so against letting someone help them? I understand the fear that getting help will allow someone else to control you, but I think stories like this send a bad message to women in abusive situations. Trying to get away without support is dangerous. There are so many amazing agencies that do amazing work. When authors write a heroine who eschews any and all support, they are putting women in danger.
Ok, so now that I have mentioned my irritation, let me share why I liked the book despite that! I love the girl on the run trope. Darby is running from an abusive fiancee who doesn't know she is pregnant yet. She runs to Colorado Springs and accepts a job as a night desk clerk at a hotel. Filled with "hotshots" who are fighting the wildfires, she meets Trex. Trex has a top secret job that he can't share with anyone. So, he lets everything think he is one of the government agency guys here for the fire effort. Trex knows that Darby is "the one" for him right away. But what can he do? Once she finds out he is ex-military, she will bolt.

If you enjoyed the angsty Maddox series, you will love From Here to You. Filled with that same angst, the love story between Darby and Trex is push/pull. She isn't going to trust easy, and Trex has lots of secrets. Throw in jealous former lovers and an abusive ex-fiancee and you have plenty of drama to keep you going! Also, there is a very interesting dichotomy between Trex's religious beliefs (atheist) and Darby's (Christian). I though McGuire did a marvelous job of showing why each character believed what they did and how to appropriately handle differences in religion in a relationship. It was very well done and she blended it seamlessly into the story. Finally, I love that Trex was the one who was looking for "the one". I thought it was incredible that he had been talking about her to friends and family since high school. It made Trex, despite his flaws, a very swoonworthy hero. I'm also still really curious about what in the hell is going on at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex and hope it will be further explored in future books!

If I say that I am impressed with this story, would be a huge understatement. Jamie McGuire again left me speechless and with a heart filled to the bring with emotions and these new incredible lovers.

From the start, Jamie had produced the big guns. There wasn’t a moment where I didn’t feel my heart beating extra fast. There wasn’t a moment where I wasn’t at the edge of my seat. There wasn’t a moment where I could just stop reading. Jamie McGuire wrote a story that is a life experience by itself. An experience that you NEED in your life.

Darby & Trex’s love journey is one that changes you from the minute it starts. You don’t realize it only until you finished the book, but your heart and mind welcomed this special couple into their depth before you even read the very first sentence.

I need more of this!!!

This book was fantastic. I loved Trex and Darby. Trex is a mystery but as his story unfolds I got enjoy him more. Darby is away from home, her family and everything she knows. She’s doing what’s best for her and her unborn child. Watching Trex and Darby along some folks you may recognize was awesome. I loved watching them reveal their pasts as they faces into the future.

Jamie McGuire never fails to compel with dynamic broken characters who are looking for love. I really enjoyed this Maddox series spinoff.

***2.5 Stars***

First of all I have to say, I was really intrigued by this novel. I have been a huge fan of Jamie McGuire’s ever since I read Beautiful Disaster and that love only continued to grow when I read The Maddox brothers series. So to say I was excited to receive an arc of From Here To You, Jamie McGuire’s brand spanking new series, would be an understatement. I was over the moon to the point where I set everything aside and immediately dove into this novel as soon as it arrived on my kindle. I can’t say I was completely disappointed by this novel. There were moments that seriously tugged at all of my heartstrings. However, there were many more moments that completely let me down.

I was intrigued when I first started reading From Here To You. Darby’s situation and her willingness to protect her unborn child really made me feel for her. I loved the emotion that was portrayed between the fear and then need of the escape. This beginning led me to believe that Darby was going to grow into one hell of a fighter.

I have to say this because this is how I truly feel and I’m all about being honest in my reviews lately. When it comes to Darby’s situation...It SERIOUSLY pissed me off that almost EVERYONE either knew or suspected Shawn was an unhinged person who mistreated Darby….But only one person stepped up to help. Did I mention that Shawn is in the ARMY and they live on an army base...Meaning….she is surrounded by men and women who have made a choice to PROTECT and help those in need and only one of them had enough insight to help a woman who they knew and/or suspected was being abused?! This was a definite no moment for me.

The more I read, the more wishy washy I started to feel about this novel. Trex and Darby where way to instant for my liking. The woman I thought would grow into her own strength, hid her strength behind a man. Granted that man was swoony and sweet and everything I was hoping he would end up being...but still, I wanted that redemption moment. I wanted Darby to find her fierceness and fight to protect what is hers… that being her baby.

Trex literally made my heart swoon. He was the sweetest man, however, half the time I had no idea what was going on during his chapters… I really liked the bond between he and his team and the comrodorie they share, I just wish the novel touched more on the PTSD that was mentioned here and there but was never really talked about.

Overall, somewhere along the way, my intrigue at the beginning of the novel, swiftly turned into annoyance. I wanted and needed more from these characters. I needed more of a connection between the main characters and more from the romance and relationship that this novel is revolving around. The characters didn’t have the chance to grow into the potential they were promised.

I will continue to read novels by Jamie McGuire. I will always read what she writes in hopes that one of her characters will leave an impression such as those that have left impressions in the past. One disliked novel will not deter me from reading more by this author in the future.

Darby just 'Runaway-Brided' it from her own wedding. But she has a good reason - her fiancé is an abusive a**hole! And ... she's kinda pregnant - which she just found out in the bathroom at church.
She's not raising a kid with that guy.

Her best friend gives her some money and drops her at the bus station.
Off to Colorado she goes.
After selling her wedding dress and buying some normal clothes, she immediately finds a job at a very busy hotel. Busy because all those sexy hotshot firemen stay there. Some huge wildfires are close by.

Scott Trexel - Trex - is also staying in that hotel. He's in town for his new job. He's 35 and has been in the military foreve and then in the FBI for a bit and now he's working with a secret private security team. His first day is tomorrow.

As soon as he meets Darby he's sure he's finally found the future Mrs. Trex.

But of course the girl is way too skittish and scared and hurt for a new relationship. And also ... she's pregnant by another guy, who might or might not have given up looking for her!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DARBY & TREX???
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺

Well.... Cute Romance ... BUT ;)

I already wanted to stop reading after 1 or 2 chapters. I just hate religion and everything connected to it. And there was so much praying and god and church and bible in those first pages already. Ugh.

But I also wanted to keep on reading. I was waiting for that story for so long. And I wanted to meet lots of Maddoxes again!!! And I did meet them. Taylor & Tyler are staying in that hotel too! Their stories/books are taking place at the same time!☺

But this story. Yes... it was cute and sweet and a bit funny and exciting toward the end. But it's not really anything new. We know she's pregnant and we know that her ex is not done with her. So nothing what happens really comes as a surprise.

Trex is great, but he's also a bit sappy with his insta-love-destiny kind of thing.
Thank god he's on my side with all that religion stuff!

The book was too long - it was filled with too much unnecessary stuff. Too much back and forth between Darby and Trex - she doesn't trust him - he doesn't tell her the whole truth! Which - surprise surprise - turns into fighting! Ugh.

It could've been an amazing romantic suspense, but Jamie almost didn't do anything with that secret military compound where Trex works. There could've been some amazing excitement - but nope... for such a long book, they weren't at that compound often enough - or with exciting enough moments. Only one basically. Maybe future books will tell us about that more!
We're mostly at the hotel - which was cute. Interesting.

It was an okay story. Just not amazing!

But I liked Trex and Darby, and all the others. Great supporting cast - I will definitely read all upcoming books about the others!

I enjoyed reading this book. It was just not as good as it could've been.
100 pages less and more action, more excitement, more adorably funny moments, a few more moving moments.
Also - what's with the cover? Roses and smoke? I suppose there is smoke from the fires but I still don't get it. Not in love with that cover - it looks bloody and doesn't fit the romance part at all.

BUT - don't get me wrong - even if it sounds like I did - I didn't hate the book. It was an ok read - lots of readers will really love it. Trex is really swoonable! ☺

FROM HERE TO YOU was a really adorable & exciting romance! Run to your nearest amazon asap for your own Trex - he'll be sold out in NO TIME!

From Here to You has everything I should love in a contemporary romance. A woman, Darby, skips out on her wedding day after finding out she is pregnant. The child gave her the strength to run from an abusive relationship.

Trex was in the military, worked for the FBI and now works in a classified security job for a secret government project. He sees Darby working at the hotel he's checked into near his new job and instantly knows she is the woman for him. Trex will stop at nothing to convince Darby they are a perfect match.

I was hooked right away to Darby's plight but where I should of been completely engaged I started to loose interest because the plot got caught up with immature, overreactions, and side plots that didn't feel pertinent to the storytelling. I started out loving it and ended up liking it.

I received this ARC copy of From Here to You from Forever (Grand Central Publishing). This is my honest and voluntary review. From Here to You is set for publication August 21, 2018.

This was definitely not my cup of tea. The story starts with a nice hook... the bride leaves the groom at the altar, but not for the reasons you think. He abuses her physically and mentally, and a few minutes before her wedding she realizes she’s making a big mistake. Darby decides to leave and heads to Colorado Springs. She’s not interested in relationships but I guess she’s so pretty that very man she comes across has the hots for her. Anyway, she meets Trexler who doesn’t give up asking her out until she agrees. I thought the pace was way slow with took away from the story and characters. Overall, this was okay but I didn’t love it.

*** 2 ½ Star Review ***

I was apprehensive to read this one. I was disappointed in her last book, but I promised to not let that one book set the tone for my feelings on reading anymore by McGuire. When I first started this book, I was texting my friends how much I was enjoying it. And I was for the first quarter of the book...

After about a quarter of the way in, this book fell off. There wasn't any real character development. Nothing happened really. I mean, nothing. It was so slow moving. However, I vowed to keep moving.

The characters didn't feel like adults. They were all over the place. They felt like they were more in their late teens. Their reactions to small things were over exaggerated and immature to their age. They lacked personality and chemistry. I just wasn't feeling them at all.

The plot of the book is one I thought would be a winner for me. However, the follow through with it was very flat and monotonous. The day to day lives of the characters wasn't something I wanted. The good stuff didn't happen until the very end, but then it felt like it didn't fit. It happened so fast after nothing happening, it felt forced.

I really wanted this to be a glowing review. I really did. I just think that McGuire's storytelling isn't in my current reading likes. I need a lot more from a book then what she is giving me.

4.5 STARS!!

Jamie McGuire does it again. This story sucked me in from the very beginning when we met Darby and kept me engulfed until the very end. Jamie McGuire beautifully creates struggling characters that the reader will want to simultaneously shake some sense into and comfort with a tight hug. Darby is strong, independent, and a little bit of a mess. Trex is so caring, but his alpha male role isn’t helping his case. It's amazing to see how those characteristics interact, and create the ups and downs of the relationship development.

The development of the characters, and their relationships with those around them, were done in a way that I’m looking forward to the rest of this series. Here’s to hoping Naomi gets a book! NOMES! While I knew there would be some sort of “show down,” I wasn’t bored waiting for it to happen. I loved getting to know Darby and Trex along the way. The action thrown in here and there just spiced up the story. You need to read this book, and I need time to pass so I can read the rest of the series!

I really love this author and this book did not dissapoint!! She made you feel like you really were there and that it was real life. This is a must read!!

A slow start but worth the wait. Trex and Darby were a different kind of couple than what Jaime usually writes.. It worked for them though.
The secrets on his part were a little aggravating at times. Her secrets were understandable.
I'm hoping there will be more of an explanation on what his team is guarding or not allowed to guard.
Overall a nice change of pace for Jaime.

I was happy to see that Jamie was releasing a new series. However it was very short lived because for majority of the book, nothing happened!

Darby leaves her abusive ex at the altar and flees to start over with and hide from him. She swears off dating and just wants to focus on her and her unborn child. She meets Trex at the hotel that she gets a job at and they have an instant connection. I hate to say that I wasn’t really into the relationship between Darby and Trex.

Besides nothing happening, I think what really bothered me the most was that they fell FAST! Trex just knows that she is the one for him soon after meeting her and is already considering purchasing a house and being apart of her babies life. They start this relationship with each other even though they both have secrets.

There were so many times that I thought about not finishing this one but I stayed with it. A lof of things felt forced and with 75% of the book with nothing really going on, it was quite boring. I had really high hopes for this one, but it fell very short.

Loved this one!

Familiar trope of run away bride but oh so much intrigue and secrets. It was a page turner from the start. I loved watching Darby come out of her shell. Such a strong woman hiding under all of her baggage.

Trex and all of his team are also interesting. I would love to read more about them if the series continues. The Firefighters on the mountain were great secondary characters and well. There is a bit of angst because of all the secrets. But when Darby and Trex are together-----lots of chemistry!

Fair warning, the violence is pretty descriptive but just makes you fall in love with Darby more for all that she has been through. Great romantic suspense read!

The first chapter sucked me and I did not look back. I really liked that there was suspense. The whole time I was trying to figure out who is Scottie Trexler. McGuire literally just dropped breadcrumbs through the whole book (haha). I kept looking over my shoulder for Darby’s ex, what are Trex and the team really protecting at this compound, and are the hotshots going to make it back safe when they go out to fight the fires. It was all very intriguing. I liked Trex and I liked Darby, I just don’t know if I liked them together. I understand how Darby would be hesitant about getting in a relationship. What irked me the most is that even though he had a feeling about what she had been through he still pushed to get her. I felt like because he had found his “the one” he wasn’t going to let her get away but goodness as Darby I would have had to tell him to pump the brakes. The way he stepped up about the baby situation was admirable but again he was moving too fast for me and Darby too. I see him as a badass out in his element but he was too soft for me on the relationship side. The whole back and forth of I can’t tell you and the lies of omission. When he chose to keep Darby from knowing Shawn was in town I wanted to smack him upside the head. I can understand where he was coming from to protect her but she needed to know. The last few chapters were the best to me. Everything came to head and we got some great action. I’m glad I got a chance to read this. It was a good book. Trex and Darby are not my favorite couple but From Here to You is definitely worth picking up.

I really enjoyed this one-Darby's strength to get our of an abusive situation made me admire this character. Shawn is just pure evil and the introduction to the hero with issues-well that made the storyline even more believable.

I have been a huge fan of Jamie McGuire for the longest time and could not jump.aboard this story fast enough. Darby and Trex were pure fire (pun intended ;) ). I loved their banter and the way they connected. I found Trex to be so amazing in the way he cared for Darby. I loved the special cameos we got in the story and the tremendous way McGuire not only made this a romance between Darby and Trex but also a story full of surprises and a journey of personal growth for Darby. This was an amazing amazing story and I can not wait for more! Bravo! 4 stars! I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

"From Here to You" is supposed to be the start to a new series by Jamie McGuire. It's about Darby, who escapes an abusive fiancé on her wedding day. She ends up in a hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she works the front desk and meets Scott 'Trex' Trexler. This had the potential to be a great story but unfortunately it fell short.

Even though this book is the start of a new series I kept feeling like I was missing something. Characters were popping up with no introduction, backstory, or development and they are all immediate best friends with Darby even though as far as I can tell this was the first time they met.

The very beginning of the book, and the last 10-15% is the only true story we get about Darby and Trex. The middle section/majority of the book there's no development, just a reunion of people from previous books with no lead in to who those people are.

Fans of the author are probably going to love seeing characters who I assume are from previous books, while those new to the author are going to be left confused, shaking their head, and wondering who the story was actually supposed to be about.

I don't recommend this book unless you've read enough of Jamie McGuire's previous books to make sense of the confusing character parade.

Move over Travis Maddox…. There is a new man in town and his name is Trex and HE IS NOW MY MAN! Oh my stars this book. It is raw, powerful and emotional. The pain that Darby endures is heartbreaking but when she finally is able to put herself first, it goes to show how much of a fighter she is. Enter Trex who comes up on her blind side and his possessive need to protect her could be frustrating but is so so enduring. How he is draw to her is passionate and raw. Their draw to each other is beautiful. There are some interesting twists and turns that keep you on your toes. I love seeing some characters show up as well!
Overall, this is one of my favorite McGuire books to date. There is just something about the passion and the story concept that kept me totally engrossed and stayed up reading it because I just could not put it down. There is just something about Trex that makes me swoon. I love watching through the years how the authors writing has developed and this is her best to date! I cannot wait for more!
