I did really like this book! In the beginning I was a little lost I've only read the first two books of Jamie's first series and this book brought the Maddox brothers back and it was a little confusing in that part she talked like I should know what and who everyone was i sort of remember the brothers but I read those books years ago and didn't really remember everything but once that part passed the book was really really good! This is Trex and Darby book, Trex is ex marine and sent to this too security place with his old military team to guard certain parts Darby ran from her wedding from her crazy crazy fiance after she found out she's pregnant! She didn't care about herself if he beat her or all the other crazy stuff he did but she cares about her new baby so she ran! That's where her and trex meet, he wants the baby and her and the ex comes around towards the end and he's definitely crazy! I definitely recommend reading this book it was well worth the read! Thank you NetGalley and grand central publishing for sharing this book with me!
Jamie McGuire's From Here To You is complete genius from start to finish. I finished this book in one day I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read her next book. A MUST READ FOR ALL!!
Darby Dixon never thought her life would turn out quite like this, she currently finds herself sitting in a church bathroom hiding out from a despicable man that she supposed to marry, full well knowing that he doesn't love her the way he should, and she is emotionally and physically exhausted from the constant battles that they have. She knows there is no way she can survive a lifetime with him, especially now that she knows they are expecting a child, she just can't bring herself to subject her child to the kind of life she currently lives, her only option is to run. There is a good chance he will find her at some point, but staying just isn't an option, so she grabs her purse, and heads for a side door of the church that leads to her friends waiting vehicle and her ticket out of the crap storm she has found herself in. There has to be something better for her and her baby out there, and she is determined to find it, even if she has to give up everything she knows to do it, and who knows maybe someday she find the kind of love she has always dreamed about finding... maybe even sooner than she expected!
Being a former Marine, means Scott "Trex" Trexler has seen the face of danger more times than he can count, and fortunately he has lived to tell about it, but doing so would mean he would have to face his demons and that just isn't something he is comfortable with. He wasn't ready to leave the service, but an injury he suffered while on duty made that decision for him, so now he does the next best thing; providing security for government facilities. His current top-secret mission has taken him to Colorado Springs, to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, and to a town he has become to enjoy visiting. And one step closer to meeting the one woman he was meant to find... he has been dreaming of her for years now, and now that he has found her he has no plans of letting her go. Even if it means he has to fight for her...
From Here To You is the first installment in the Crash and Burn series, and our introduction to Trex and Darby, two wounded souls in desperate need of saving. These two were quite the pairing, both scarred from their pasts, both struggling to overcome them, and both quite determined to not let them defy them. When they met one another, they meet the other half of themselves that they have been missing and never knew existed, and boy was it fun to watch them travel down this road of self discovery, and healing. It has been a while since I have read a book by this author, but within minutes of starting this story I was quickly reminded why I love her books so much, the feels they bring are incomparable, and can be deeply felt and are long lasting. I am really excited about this new series from her and I look forward to making return visits and having the opportunity to meet more of her endearing characters! I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it's loaded with feels that are certain to put a major squeeze on your heart and linger with you long after the last page is swiped!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
McGuire is a master at her genre, and we certainly felt ourselves rooting for these two characters to enjoy a second chance at love. The romance did feel a smidge rushed (as is standard for many romance novels, so this is simply a preference thing), whereas were hoping for a bit more slow-burn. If you like your romances to sizzle from the start, then this one is for you!
Any book that even mentions a Maddox brother has my immediate attention. Darby is a strong heroine determined to take care of herself and the baby growing in her belly. Trex was in love with Darby before he even met her....the "love at first sight" trope at work. He is sweet and romantic, but not entirely truthful about his job. Overall this story is sweet and romantic, but there's a lot going on outside of Darby and Trex's romance, some very much over the top. I hope the next book(s) in the series will explain more. While Darby and Trex get their HEA, I was left with more questions than answers.
"Now I'm here, and she's right across the street, and I have to act like haven't been looking for her my entire adult life."
This is a spin-off of the Maddox Brothers books. Even if it isn't an official spin-off, it does have appearances and the timeline is in the same "world". Trex (Scott Trexler) is the FBI agent that was investigating the dorm fire that Travis was involved in. He's on a new assignment and in Colorado.
My heart broke for Darby. She had so much courage and was so brave. Watching the way Trex approached her and handled her was amazing. I don't know that I was 100% sold on his belief and his unwavering commitment to knowing she was "the one". I was told it a lot but I would have liked to "feel' it more from him. I think they had great chemistry though and I just adored Trex.
I arched an eyebrow. "Finding religion, Trexler?"
He shook his head. "No. I found you."
This is a fantastic start to a new series from Jamie. There are several characters that I hope get to have books. Several of them peaked my interest and I have my fingers crossed for them. Even though I enjoyed this book and I read it in one day I still can't go higher than 4 stars. Besides what I mentioned above I just couldn't get behind the insta love. I am definitely looking forward to the next book though.
"Alone in a dark room, wrapped in the arms of Scott Trexler, I felt anything but afraid."
An angsty story of strength and love.
Darby escaped. She did it. And watching her bloom was indescribable.
'Saying no was my new superpower, and I would use it every time I had the chance, from now on.'
Trex is where Darby is for his job and he is determined to break through to Darby as he falls hard. But his job is mystery city, top secret!
When I said above this story is angsty, it so is. I knew what was coming and I was dreading it. So get your legs ready as you'll be on the edge of your seat! I did think some parts were dragged out but it was still a fab read and I couldn't put it down!
And you get glimpses of the Maddox twins!
I have no shame in admitting I love a good damsel in distress story, especially when her savior is a military man. So when I saw the blurb for Jamie McGuire's newest book you can bet i jumped at the chance to read it.
From Here to You is the story of Darby, a runaway bride who left her abusive fiance on her wedding day, and Trex, a retired Marine trying to start over with a new job in the one place he thinks will bring him peace. When he meets Darby he instantly know's that she's the one, his one true soul mate that he's been looking for his whole life and who he's measured every girl against, even though he hadn't met her yet. And he doesn't care that she comes with baggage most men would run from, she's his and he's willing to wait until he can prove it to her.
Honestly this was a really unique story in my opinion and for a lot of different reasons. Not only do we get a hero that is instantly all-in for the relationship while the heroine isn't, which doesn't happen too often in romance books, but we also get a really great way of storytelling where the main characters have different beliefs. I'm not a big fan of bringing religion into the books I read but I actually really enjoyed how it was done in this book. It wasn't forced at all but there were moments that the discussion of beliefs came up since Darby was a catholic and Trex was an atheist. I really liked that they didn't let it become a interference in their relationship and it made me love them even more that they could discuss that topic without it becoming a fight.
I just generally really liked and enjoyed this couple. I felt so many emotions for them both but Darby is the character that spoke to my heart the most. I admired her for having the strength to leave a bad situation, but I also hurt for her that she didn't feel like she deserved happiness. I was so happy that Trex came into her life and showed her that she didn't deserve to be punished for a past that wasn't her fault.
There's also a little bit of a mystery, at least for me since I'm obnoxiously curious, surrounding Trex's job. I am dying to find out what exactly is going on at the facility he works at so I hope that's something we'll learn in the upcoming books.
If you're a fan of this author you'll also be happy to see some of the Maddox brothers make an appearance in this book. I haven't read the book yet but I believe that Darby and Trex are actually characters you meet in Beautiful Burn. Either way, if you know these characters or not, I highly recommend their story. It was captivating, and beautiful, and a story I know I will be re-reading many times over.
From Here to You by Jamie McGuire is the first book of the new Crash and Burn contemporary romance series. While this is the opening of a new series apparently the characters in From Here to You were minor players in another series, I believe The Maddox Brothers although I’m not 100% sure as this is my first novel I’ve read from Jamie McGuire myself. Having finished this one and loving it though I can say you don’t need to have read the previous to enjoy this even if the character/s have crossed over.
The story begins with Darby Dixon just finding out she’s pregnant as she’s about to marry her abusive fiance and it was one thing to take the abuse herself but Darby refuses to let him harm her baby. Jumping on a bus and going as far as she can she tries to stay off radar and takes a cash job working in a hotel with a room available to her too. Most of the guest at the hotel are the fire fighters coming and going as they battle blazes in the nearby areas and that is when Darby meets Scott “Trex” Trexler.
Trex has always believed that one day he will meet “the one” and the day he met Darby he was sure she was the woman he’d been waiting for. The problem, Darby wants nothing to do with men and especially any military, law enforcement, fire fighters or any field that reminds her of her ex. So being military and ex FBI Trex is not what Darby was looking for at all but before long he begins to show her just what kind of man he is and that he is not her ex.
From Here to You had a lot of great elements to it that easily pulled me into the story and made me love Darby and Trex and want to cheer them on. First, I’m a sucker for a man stepping up and taking care of a child when it’s not his own and Trex didn’t even blink at the news. Darby on the other hand took a lot of convincing which you don’t see too often, the man all in and the woman lagging behind, it was a nice switch. But if anyone deserved to have things go her way it’s the woman that found the strength to run and protect her child so my heart went out to her. There’s steamy, there’s struggles, there’s touching moments and emotion along with some suspense on top of it all to really make the pages turn. Great opener to the series that I think many will love.

I haven't read a book by this author in a few years and I am so glad I got the chance to read this one. I loved every part of this book, it was just amazing. I loved Trex and Darby from the first line of their story to the very last. The book is packed full of emotion pulling words and you will find yourself rooting for these two. This was one I couldn't put down. I can't wait to see who else gets a book from this series.
YES!!!! I have loved Jamie McGuire's work since she published Beautiful Disaster but haven't read many of her books since that one released. This one however made me realize how much I love her stories!!! I loved this book HARD. I couldn't put it down. And I think all romance readers NEED IT. Highly recommended! This is a new top favorite!
This book! I ate it up in a day! I don't know how but before I knew it was 50% done.
Darby is such a strong character. She learned she was pregnant on her wedding day and instead of marrying an abusive man she chose to run and give her and her unborn child the chance at a better life. This decision also made the future scary and unpredictable.
By luck and a personality that seems to draw everyone to her she lands a job at a hotel. This is where everything changes for her. The hotel is buzzing with firefighters and other officials due to a wildfire but in the middle of all that she meets Trex.
Even though she's sworn off men he somehow breaks through in the most laid back, on-your-own-time-and-terms manner that really made me fall for him.
I rooted for them throughout and it was refreshing to see a female character learn how to be independent and strong. Also, while Darby was trying to work through all her issues Trex let her. There was no overly macho-alpha male in this book but Trex is still totally a man's man.
He falls quickly for her but it's not all smooth sailing for him. However, Trex is a guy and we all know guys can make some decisions that make total sense to them and only them. These decision may just come back to bite him in the ass.
The last 20-25% of the book had me in knots. You'll love this book if you like reading a romance that mixes moments of suspense with a touch of steam. It's been awhile since I finished a book in 24 hours so for that and all the amazing moments in this book I've given it 5 stars. I can't wait to hear what you think. From Here to You is an exciting and intriguing new read from author Jamie McGuire. From Here to You follows the story of Darby and Trex. When we first meet Darby, I couldn't help but be intrigued by her story. We meet her just minutes before her wedding is about to start and she gets some life altering news. This news gives her the strength to get out of a terrible situation and try to create a new life for her and her unborn child. With only the clothes on her back and the cash she has on hand, Darby goes as far as her money will take her. Her new life may not be what she dreamed of, but if anyone deserves a second chance, it's Darby....
From Here to You pulled me in instantly. I was so intrigued and couldn't wait to read more. I found Darby really easy to relate to and loved how smart she was. She risked a lot by leaving her fiancee and trying to start over. She is the kind of woman you just want to hug and protect. She may not have been ready for Trex to come into her life, but I gotta tell you, he was just what the doctor ordered. Not only was he good looking, but he was patient, kind and determined. He believed in true love and soul-mates. He didn't care about Darby's past and the moment he realized that she was everything he was looking for, he would stop at nothing to protect and win her heart.
Darby and Trex's road to happily ever after wasn't an easy one. There were definitely some bumps along the way. From secrets to lies and omissions of truth. From a past that just won't stay buried. This story had turns that left me breathless and on the edge of my seat. Even with all that, this author delivered a heartfelt slow-burning second chance romance that just kept me begging for more.
Overall, I found this story to be a truly enjoyable read. I loved the chemistry between the characters and the friendships built along the way. I loved seeing and spending time with familiar faces. I loved the drama and suspense. I loved the romance and swoon-worthy moments along the way. From Here to You was a terrific read from beginning to end.
