This is the second Riley book that I have read and I love it as much as the first. Riley is a typical kid. His school play is today and he plays the King! He is so nervous, but with a little mantra from his sister he can do it, he can. A lovely story with great illustrations.
A wondrous book of rhyming verse about Riley coming through in the school play. He is nervous at first, an d his sister supplies him with the mantra of “if you start feeling nervous, this is the plan:
Say in your head ‘I can do this I can.‘”
So Riley repeats this mantra silently on performance day and comes through just fine. For the little ones who may have some worry about being on the stage, a night with this book can surely alleviate young anxiety. The illustrations are kind of flat and don’t jump off the page, but the rhyming verse and rhythm will keep the young ones engaged. Thanks to Netgalley and Ella Riley group for an advanced DRC. Book available Apr. 25, 2018.
Can't review this book as it was incomplete on my Kindle. Sounds like a cute book, I'll check it out in the bookstore when it comes out :)
A beautiful book about building self confidence, and learning you can do exciting and big things if you only put your mind to it. Riley earns a big part in the school play, but gets anxious about the crowd. His sister shares a little secret with him that helps him stay positive and focus on his lines. A beautiful book that sends out a beautiful message. A great book for young children.
I have received a much appreciated digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Riley Knows He Can is a beautiful rhyming book for children.
Riley is about to take part in his first school performance and he has stage fright. With smart advice and encouragement from his sister he overcomes his fears.
Lovely rhymes, very helpful book that tells a story about an important issue that so many children have problems with. It deals with it in a kind and gentle manner.
Also shows how helpful sister's love and support can be.
Nicely illustrated as well.
Riley Knows He Can has a wonderful message for young readers about self-confidence and helping one another. The story is written in rhyming prose as it tells the story of Riley. He has terrible stage fright, but with his sister helping him with his lines and giving in a rhyme to say to himself to give him confidence he is able to perform and do a great job. With a cast of diverse characters the book reinforces positive relationships among families and friends. My grandson, niece and nephew enjoyed this story and liked the illustrations. A great story to add to school, home and public libraries

Riley Knows He Can is such a powerful and inspirational story for children! When in doubt Riley has the support and encouragement of his family! Riley gains the confidence he needs to play the role he is destined for! This book is perfect to read to children who may need some reassuring words and a reminder that yes, they can do anything they put their mind to!
A young boy gets a massive case of stage fright, in rhyme.
His sister gives him a charming pep talk.
He gets over it and he and his friends put on a great show at school.
Really hope kids don’t get bored by this, as there’s not much to it.
I really enjoyed this book, and my young cousin loved it too. It was a great story and I love that it centered around a boy of color, adding diversity to children's books.
I enjoyed the rhyme and message of this book to believe in yourself. Unfortunately the images didn’t display properly in the ebook, but what I could see of them were fun and well done.
I received this from #netgalley but it didn’t download properly. I couldn’t really see the pictures. The text was cute with the rhymes. Conveyed to children how
Important it is to believe in yourself.
Another wonderful addition to this inspiring children's series as readers follow a young Black boy's nervous navigation of his first on stage role with emotional support from his big sister!
