I read this book, The Angel and The Promise directly after another, because firstly I couldn't get enough of Katerina Diamond's books and secondly because I just love Imogen!
The books are very well written, gripping, and honestly I forsake all others (also known as the family and the dogs) because I just had to finish both books. I read a lot of books per year, and honestly have gotten a bit blase about the "psychological thriller" genre, but this really was worth the title.
Both books are brilliant, and please do yourself the favor and just read them!

This was an author that I had never come across before, but, rest assured I will be finding out about any other books that have been written. Absolutely loved the plot, the characters, and the surprises. I could not of even guessed how the ending would come about, the bravery of Connor. The twists along the read were mind boggling, I have never read a story like this before and I absolutely loved it! This author is now in my top ten of Authors to follow. Stunning book and highly recommended

I nearly wet myself with excitement when I found this book on Netgalley available for request. Katerina Diamond is an author who has captured my attention from the very start as her writing is absolutely enthralling. Whenever I read any of her books everything comes to a standstill - who cares about going to sleep when I've got this amazing book to read!?!

Following on with the next instalment of Detectives Miles and Grey I couldn't wait to see what would present itself to them this time around and I really wasn't disappointed. A string of rapes and murders has Miles and Grey completely stumped in a race against time to ensure that there are no further attacks. I found the story very reminiscent of the tv programme "The Fall" so I was completely hooked. As normal there were various viewpoints in the story including the mystery voice of a domestic abuse victim whose role in the story is only evident at the end and this is absolutely fine by me because I love to be kept guessing.

The Promise was fast paced and action packed as normal and I literally had to tear through the book to find out who was responsible for these crimes. I loved the twist at the end and I was completely in shock but that proves just how on top of her game Katerina Diamond is. I cannot wait for the next instalment.

Not as tense or nail biting as the first couple of books in the series and a few strands of the story were left unfinished. Never the less I did enjoy it! I find this series quick paced and a fast read.

I absolutely loved it. The storyline was well thought out and fast paced with twists and turns until you get to the stunning conclusion. My opinion, Ms Diamond is the Queen of Crime. She just gets better and better.

The detectives are called out to a murder. Erica Lawson has been found murdered in her own home in unusual circumstances and she won't be the last victim. In a separate plot line 16 year old Connor Lee returns to Exeter from California with a dark past and tries to fit into his new surroundings.

The Promise has these two intriguing plot lines which gradually converge as the novel progresses but I don't feel the novel really works as a whole. Connor is the main focus of the novel so the hunt for the serial killer is subsumed by it and seems rather flimsy. Connor's story is revealed bit by bit as the novel progresses so the reader is left rather confused by his plot line until well into the novel - it initially seems rather pointless and mysterious. The format of the novel doesn't help as the point of view is constantly shifting between Connor, the victims, Grey, Miles and several diary entries from an unnamed narrator. I find this approach distracting as the novel never fully engages my attention, I always feel that just as I get absorbed in a situation the rug is pulled from under me and the perspective changes. Equally the mystery surrounding Connor's move to Exeter is frustrating as it is teased out over the first half of the novel. I'd rather the author was upfront and the reader would know what they're dealing with.

Connor is a budding psychopath so it's difficult to feel much empathy for him. He's had a difficult childhood which, rather obviously, is the root cause of it. It all seems a bit OTT and difficult to swallow. Not to be outdone there are developments in Grey and Miles's lives as well. I have no idea what to think of them, all I know is they seem strange and off kilter.

The Promise is not a bad read, it's just not as much to my taste as the previous novels in the series.

This is a good thriller for people who have just started reading this genre. A good holiday read and it unravels quite well - I like how it goes back in time.

This is the fourth book featuring Detectives Miles and Grey, having read the other three I was really looking forward to this one. I found the pace at the beginning was slower and I did struggle with the story up to about halfway but then the pace picked up and things began to fall into place, the momentum building to the final page. I would recommend this book.

Katerina Diamond has been hailed as the 'new Queen of Crime'. I am not at all surprised by this. She writes flawlessly and I have enjoyed all her books thus far.

This book was fantastic. There are 3 stories happening throughout the book and it keeps the reader really curious as to how they are all connected. I don't want to give anything away, but wow, this woman knows how to spin a yarn. This book is not as gory as her others but it is just as enjoyable and it might just be my favourite one in the series. I was really looking to read a good book and I devoured this one in no time. Reading a book like this is bittersweet, it's so good that you can't help reading it at breakneck speed because you want to know what happens next but at the same time, you don't want it to end because it's just so good!

I highly recommend this book as well as the author's previous books. It can be read as a standalone but by reading the others first, it will give you a deeper understanding of the characters and how they have developed over time. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

It starts off so promising, much like the title says, but then that voice dies and the real book starts.

Unfortunately, I didn't like any of the characters so it was hard for me to root for them or care about the action unraveling.

I also felt like the story wasn't knit together very successfully.

Sorry, wasn't for me this time. But I think those liking stories with and from detective POV will love it.

Katerina Diamond is one of my favourite authors and I was delighted to receive an advanced copy of her latest book The Promise.
I have read all her previous books and loved them and this book was excellent. I was hooked from the first page to the last.
I read this book in one day because I could not put it down.The characters are wonderful and we get to know the personalities of the detectives throughout this series. I can't wait for her next book.

I read the three books in the series a few months ago. I was previously hooked by each one and keen to read The Promise as soon as possible (even though I. have pre-ordered it in paperback).
The Promise works well as a stand alone, as do The Teacher, The Secret, and The Angel. Katerina Diamond reitterates enough from previous books to remind readers, or orientate a new reader.
So, having read the others I had high expectations. I was not disappointed, not at all. In fact I woud say that The Promise is Katerina Diamond's best so far.
The complexity of three stories gradually unravelling was expertly written. Each shift was easy to follow and executed perfectly.
The over all plot is A1 with twists and revelations that held my attention throughout the two sittings I took to read.
My only thought now is that I will need to wait for Katerina Diamond's next book.

The Promise is told through three alternating stories. I haven’t read a book that had such different story lines occurring at the same time with family drama unfolding alongside a police murder investigation and a victim retelling their experience of abuse. I really enjoyed this element, and stayed up late to finish this book. I did not realize that the police characters in this book are featured in Katerina Diamond’s other books because this is the first book I’ve read of hers. This book worked well as a stand-alone, although I plan to read her other books now to learn about the character’s backstories, and because I imagine they’ll be enthralling reads like The Promise was.

This was my first book from Katerina Diamond and I loved it! The story drew me in from the start and didn’t let go till the end. It was well-written and the characters were well-defined. There was no occasion to be bored or roll the eyes.
Besides, the book deserves more starts for its refreshing and rather creepy cover!

I really loved this one – by now the detectives have defined personalities and the characters are just interesting as the plot. This was an enjoyable thriller .with good twists and a decent amount of suspense, This one was also better written with less gratuitous violence than the previous books. She's really coming along with as a writer and I look forward to the next one
