I absolutely loved this book. I also listened on audio in case that's what you like and the audio is amazing too!! The ending is perfect! I haven't read a book that has kept me this interested all the way through in a long time. If you love domestic thrillers -- Camilla's writing is absolute perfection. Her newest book is Who Killed Ruby and I'm going to read it next. I cant' even begin to describe without spoiling anything for you all the twists and turns and a lot of books don't wrap up their ending and you are left unsatisfied but I feel like this is one domestic thriller that could have a sequence. So let's pray she thinks so too!
The Lies We Told by Camilla Way
When Luke the boyfriend of Clara goes missing, we are taken on a roller coaster ride that was a thrilling fast paced read that I will not soon forget. While sometimes dark and disturbing, the author does an excellent job of making sure you have to read this book to the last page or you will be left wondering, what in the world happened.
I recently read a book called Baby Teeth. Hannah the child in this story reminds me of the child in that story, a daughter out to get her mom and it had me on the edge the entire time I was reading.
If you like suspense thrillers with twists and turns, great plot that makes you want more, this is the book for you.
Do not miss this read as I highly recommend and I plan to read other books by this author.

This book was action packed from the start. The back and forth of POVs added a lot to the story. So many twists and turns! Some I was able to piece together but others were surprising. I really enjoyed how the two separate stories became connected.
Overall, the book was fine. I never completely connected to any character and wasn’t exactly “rooting” for anyone. But it was a quick read and I am curious to read more from this author in the future.
Wow-what an amazing thriller! Super fast paced-literally finished this book in one sitting and couldn't stop reading -I wanted to know how it would end.
I have since bought a copy for myself from Book of the Month and my own library at home. Left a review there as well.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Camilla Way and Berkley Publishing Group, Berkley for allowing my to read and review this wonderful copy of the book.
I usually love alternating stories, but this one seemed like the problems of our MC dragged out a bit too much, which kind of knocked off a star for me. It came together nicely and the writing style was good. It was enjoyable and a good fast paced thriller.
So, I've been revisiting books that were previously a DNF for me - wondering if the DNF was due to mood or book.
Well, this was a much better experience this time around!
While some of the story is still a bit unbelievable - and some of the characters a bit lacking in the brains department - the book was entertaining as can be.
I will say, though, that a few of these characters got exactly what was coming to them!
I'm very glad that I took another go at this one!
Finally a thriller that kept me guessing for quite a while! What has happened to Clara’s boyfriend Luke? The more she digs into it the more things turn up.
Dual timeline that seems completely unrelatedly but tie together in the end.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.
I have had this book on my backlog for a while and finally had a chance to read it. It was a very interesting book too - there was a great amount of plot twists and the story line really kept me guessing. I thought that the author did an excellent job of alternating between the past and the present as well as alternating between points of view to create additional suspense. I really didn't want to put it down! There were a few things I didn't end up loving - overall the book was pretty depressing and the ending is left somewhat open / unresolved which isn't my favorite thing. Overall though I really liked the book and I'd definitely recommend it!
Although I started of enjoying this book, the story became hard to follow and became uninteresting. Overall a good read to pass the time, but not to my taste.
Told with two timelines, this book is a reasonable read. It was interesting to see how these two stories were going to play out, What connects them? Where is this going? It was really fun to guess what, who, and see if I was right or wrong. It has some good twists, and keep me reading. Where is Luke and why is he gone? I could see this one as a film. It's good with the suspense/thriller aspects.
My copy came from Net Galley. This review is mine, left freely.
Great author. Took me awhile to get to this one but glad I picked it up.
Twisty and on the edge if your seat.
Loved it!
I finally decided to pick this book up because I was looking for something good to read and all of my friends had raved about this book and now I see why. The Lies We Told is a psychological thriller that grabbed my attention from the very beginning. There were so many layers of secrets to be uncovered and I couldn’t predict the twists the plot took. Reading this book was like seeing an accident, it was horrifying and I couldn’t bring myself to look away.
I really loved how well the characters were done. The story is told in alternating points of view and timelines. It switched from the point of view of Beth, the mother of Hannah, in the past when she was watching her child growing up and starting to realize that Hannah was a sociopath, and Clara’s point of view in the present when her boyfriend Luke first goes missing. Both points of view included periodic flashbacks, really helping flesh out the characters and give them depth. While Clara’s point of view focused more on the plot and had tons of twists and turns, it was Beth’s chapters that truly fascinated me. I truly sympathized with her, imagining what it must be like to have a sociopath as a daughter. I really felt for Beth throughout the story and related with her even though I’m not a mother.
The plot was so intriguing. I thought that maybe it wouldn’t be great because from the beginning you know that Hannah had to be involved in Luke’s disappearance, so I felt like there couldn’t be much mystery to the story. But as the secrets started to be revealed it became clear that there was so much more to the whole plot. I could have never guessed where the story was heading and I think the plot was crafted very well. I do feel like the climax to the story could have been better. I feel like it unraveled a little too easily in the end.
This was a really wild thriller and overall I really liked it. I enjoyed having a different type of mystery where there were lots of secrets to uncover and that the mystery was more of how it all happened than who did it. Although there were times where I wasn’t sure which character Hannah was in the present. I haven’t read many stories about sociopaths and I think choosing the mother’s perspective was a great choice because it gave such a clear picture of the horror of the whole story. I don’t think I would have enjoyed a story from Hannah’s point of view because sociopaths lack regular emotions. The Lies We Told was the kind of book I tore through very quickly and will have a hard time forgetting. It has been several months since I read this and I can still remember the entire plot, so this is the type of book that definitely stands out.

When I read a psychological thriller, I hope that I am completely engaged, feeling the tension and fear that the characters are feeling. That was exactly how I felt when I was reading this book.
There were really two different storylines in this book, one in the past and one in the present. I am normally not a big fan of this, but in this book it worked really well. We were able to get insight into all of the characters psyches, getting a better understanding of their actions, worries and fears. As you would expect, these two storylines eventually connect and does so with a real bang.
The past story line deals with Beth and her husband and their daughter Hannah and Toby, their son. After trying for a while to have a baby, their finally have a daughter. But as Hannah gets older, it becomes quite clear that there is something wrong with Hannah. She is not loving and kind, she is mean and at times cruel. The older she gets, the worse this becomes. When they have their second child, Beth is worried for that child’s safety.
The present story line involves Clara, who awakens one morning to realize her boyfriend, Luke never came home from work and is missing. The more that Clara investigates the disappearance of Luke, the more secrets she uncovers and realizes that she did not really know Luke at all.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. There are several layers to some of these characters, and some are not what they seem on the surface. The author is very talented in her suspense writing, and tension was radiating off the pages of the book. I was trying to swipe as fast as I could, but I was afraid to do that because I was nervous about what was going to happen next.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted fast paced psychological thriller. Filled with a lot of twists and turns, it will keep you on your toes.
This book was great. There were moments that I didn’t see coming from a mile away. I enjoyed the suspense and the plot twists.
The Lies We Told was an excellent book that is great if you’re looking for a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end.
The Lies We Told is a very suspenseful, on the edge of your seat secrets & lies filled thriller! A lot of books you can predict whats going to happen.. but while I read this one I had no idea what would happen. I was nervous for Luke and Hannah.
I received an ARC from Netgalley of the The Lies We Told for an honest review. This is a great psychological thriller. It is told in two different timelines which keeps you reading just to figure out how the two are connected. It keeps you guessing until eventually they merge and the author lets you in on how they connect. A great read that doesn't disappoint.
I flew through this book! When Clara’s boyfriend Luke goes missing, she has no idea about the web of lies that have been told for the last couple decades and how they will end up affecting them both. This book was so interesting and I couldn’t predict the ending, no matter how hard I tried. Definitely get this book, you won’t be disappointed!
Thank you #netgalley and #berkleypublishing for an advanced copy of #thelieswetold
Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The Lies We Told. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
The Lies We Told is a psychological thriller revolving around a missing man and a deeply disturbed young woman. The two story lines are told distinctly separate and do not converge until the book nears its end. This back and forth between the two plots keeps the reader off balance, spooling out the true story a little at a time. As the perspective changes, the reality of both timelines comes into sharp focus.
The biggest problem that I had with The Lies We Told was the sheer number of issues and situations the characters face in the book. Besides cataloging most of Hannah's young childhood, hammering home her issues to the point where it is almost too much, the author spends an inordinate amount of time on Clara's problems. As the girlfriend to the missing man, Luke, her presence in the book is important, but the author takes too long to get to the point. I never really felt vested in either story line and did not enjoy the book as much as I had hoped. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend The Lies We Told to other readers.
Fast paced psychological thriller/suspense will keep the reader guessing what will happen next. This will be on everyone's TBR list.
I am such a big fan of psychological thrillers, and I pride myself on how fast and how accurately I can figure out who the culprit is. Admittedly, I did not fully guess everything in this book. And I absolutely loved it! Nowadays every book is so predictable, but THE LIES WE TOLD was nothing like that. I really enjoyed the whole experience of this book and I'm interested to see what else Camilla Way in the future.
